Deuteronomy 1

 1. These <0428> [be] the words <01697> which <0834> Moses

<04872> spake <01696> unto all <03605> Israel <03478> on this

side <05676> Jordan <03383> in the wilderness <04057>, in the

plain <06160> over <04136> against <04136> the Red <05489> [sea

<03220>], between <0996> Paran <06290>, and Tophel <08603>, and

Laban <03837>, and Hazeroth <02698>, and Dizahab <01774>.

 2 ([There are] eleven days <03117>' [journey] from Horeb

<02722> by the way <01870> of mount <02022> Seir <08165> unto

Kadeshbarnea <06947>.)

 3 And it came <01961> to pass in the fortieth <0705> year

<08141>, in the eleventh month <02320>, on the first <0259>

[day] of the month <02320>, [that] Moses <04872> spake <01696>

unto the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, according unto all

<03605> that the LORD <03068> had given him in commandment

<06680> unto them;

 4 After <0310> he had slain <05221> Sihon <05511> the king

<04428> of the Amorites <0567>, which <0834> dwelt <03427> in

Heshbon <02809>, and Og <05747> the king <04428> of Bashan

<01316>, which <0834> dwelt <03427> at Astaroth <06252> in Edrei

<0154>:

 5 On this side <05676> Jordan <03383>, in the land <0776> of

Moab <04124>, began <02974> Moses <04872> to declare <0874> this

<02063> law <08451>, saying <0559>,

 6 The LORD <03068> our God <0430> spake <01696> unto us in

Horeb <02722>, saying <0559>, Ye have dwelt <03427> long <07227>

enough in this <02088> mount <02022>:

 7 Turn <06437> you, and take your journey <05265>, and go

<0935> to the mount <02022> of the Amorites <0567>, and unto all

<03605> [the places] nigh <07934> thereunto, in the plain

<06160>, in the hills <02022>, and in the vale <08219>, and in

the south <05045>, and by the sea <03220> side <02348>, to the

land <0776> of the Canaanites <03669>, and unto Lebanon <03844>,

unto the great <01419> river <05104>, the river <05104>

Euphrates <06578>.

 8 Behold <07200>, I have set <05414> the land <0776> before

<06440> you: go <0935> in and possess <03423> the land <0776>

which <0834> the LORD <03068> sware <07650> unto your fathers

<01>, Abraham <085>, Isaac <03327>, and Jacob <03290>, to give

<05414> unto them and to their seed <02233> after <0310> them.

 9. And I spake <0559> unto you at that time <06256>, saying

<0559>, I am not able <03201> to bear <05375> you myself alone

<0905>:

 10 The LORD <03068> your God <0430> hath multiplied <07235> you,

 and, behold <02009>, ye [are] this day <03117> as the stars

<03556> of heaven <08064> for multitude <07230>.

 11 (The LORD <03068> God <0430> of your fathers <01> make you a

thousand <0505> times <06471> so many more <03254> as ye [are],

and bless <01288> you, as he hath promised <01696> you!)

 12 How <0349> can I myself alone <0905> bear <05375> your

cumbrance <02960>, and your burden <04853>, and your strife

<07379>?

 13 Take <03051> you wise <02450> men <0582>, and understanding

<0995>, and known <03045> among your tribes <07626>, and I will

make <07760> them rulers <07218> over you.

 14 And ye answered <06030> me, and said <0559>, The thing

<01697> which <0834> thou hast spoken <01696> [is] good <02896>

[for us] to do <06213>.

 15 So I took <03947> the chief <07218> of your tribes <07626>,

wise <02450> men <0582>, and known <03045>, and made <05414>

them heads <07218> over <05921> you, captains <08269> over

thousands <0505>, and captains <08269> over hundreds <03967>,

and captains <08269> over fifties <02572>, and captains <08269>

over tens <06235>, and officers <07860> among your tribes

<07626>.

 16 And I charged <06680> your judges <08199> at that time

<06256>, saying <0559>, Hear <08085> [the causes] between <0996>

your brethren <0251>, and judge <08199> righteously <06664>

between <0996> [every] man <0376> and his brother <0251>, and

the stranger <01616> [that is] with him.

 17 Ye shall not respect <05234> persons <06440> in judgment

<04941>; [but] ye shall hear <08085> the small <06996> as well

as the great <01419>; ye shall not be afraid <01481> of the face

<06440> of man <0376>; for the judgment <04941> [is] God's

<0430>: and the cause <01697> that is too hard <07185> for you,

bring <07126> [it] unto me, and I will hear <08085> it.

 18 And I commanded <06680> you at that time all <03605> the

things <01697> which <0834> ye should do <06213>.

 19. And when we departed <05265> from Horeb <02722>, we went

<03212> through all <03605> that great <01419> and terrible

<03372> wilderness <04057>, which <0834> ye saw <07200> by the

way <01870> of the mountain <02022> of the Amorites <0567>, as

the LORD <03068> our God <0430> commanded <06680> us; and we

came <0935> to Kadeshbarnea <06947>.

 20 And I said <0559> unto you, Ye are come <0935> unto the

mountain <02022> of the Amorites <0567>, which <0834> the LORD

<03068> our God <0430> doth give <05414> unto us.

 21 Behold <07200>, the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> hath set

<05414> the land <0776> before <06440> thee: go <05927> up [and]

possess <03423> [it], as the LORD <03068> God <0430> of thy

fathers <01> hath said <01696> unto thee; fear <03372> not,

neither <0408> be discouraged <02865>.

 22 And ye came <07126> near <07126> unto me every <03605> one

of you, and said <0559>, We will send <07971> men <0582> before

<06440> us, and they shall search <02658> us out the land <0776>,

 and bring <07725> us word <01697> again <07725> by what <0834>

way <01870> we must go <05927> up, and into what <0853> cities

<05892> we shall come <0935>.

 23 And the saying <01697> pleased me well: and I took <03947>

twelve men <0582> of you, one <0259> of a tribe <07626>:

 24 And they turned <06437> and went <05927> up into the

mountain <02022>, and came <0935> unto the valley <05158> of

Eshcol <0812>, and searched <07270> it out.

 25 And they took <03947> of the fruit <06529> of the land

<0776> in their hands <03027>, and brought <03381> [it] down

<03381> unto us, and brought <07725> us word <01697> again

<07725>, and said <0559>, [It is] a good <02896> land <0776>

which <0834> the LORD <03068> our God <0430> doth give <05414>

us.

 26 Notwithstanding ye would <014> not go <05927> up, but

rebelled <04784> against the commandment <06310> of the LORD

<03068> your God <0430>:

 27 And ye murmured <07279> in your tents <0168>, and said

<0559>, Because the LORD <03068> hated <08135> us, he hath

brought <03318> us forth <03318> out of the land <0776> of Egypt

<04714>, to deliver <05414> us into the hand <03027> of the

Amorites <0567>, to destroy <08045> us.

 28 Whither <0575> shall we go <05927> up? our brethren <0251>

have discouraged <04549> our heart <03824>, saying <0559>, The

people <05971> [is] greater <01419> and taller <07311> than we;

the cities <05892> [are] great <01419> and walled <01219> up to

heaven <08064>; and moreover <01571> we have seen <07200> the

sons <01121> of the Anakims <06062> there <08033>.

 29 Then I said <0559> unto you, Dread <06206> not, neither

<03808> be afraid <03372> of them.

 30 The LORD <03068> your God <0430> which goeth <01980> before

<06440> you, he shall fight <03898> for you, according to all

<03605> that he did <06213> for you in Egypt <04714> before your

eyes <05869>;

 31 And in the wilderness <04057>, where <0834> thou hast seen

<07200> how that the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> bare <05375>

thee, as a man <0376> doth bear <05375> his son <01121>, in all

<03605> the way <01870> that ye went <01980>, until <05704> ye

came <0935> into <05704> this place <04725>.

 32 Yet in this <02088> thing <01697> ye did not believe <0539>

the LORD <03068> your God <0430>,

 33 Who went <01980> in the way <01870> before <06440> you, to

search <08446> you out a place <04725> to pitch <02583> your

tents [in], in fire <0784> by night <03915>, to shew <07200> you

by what <0834> way <01870> ye should go <03212>, and in a cloud

<06051> by day <03119>.

 34 And the LORD <03068> heard <08085> the voice <06963> of your

words <01697>, and was wroth <07107>, and sware <07650>, saying

<0559>,

 35 Surely <0518> there shall not one <0376> of these <0428> men

<0582> of this <02088> evil <07451> generation <01755> see

<07200> that good <02896> land <0776>, which <0834> I sware

<07650> to give <05414> unto your fathers <01>,

 36 Save <02108> Caleb <03612> the son <01121> of Jephunneh

<03312>; he shall see <07200> it, and to him will I give <05414>

the land <0776> that he hath trodden <01869> upon, and to his

children <01121>, because he hath wholly <04390> followed <0310>

the LORD <03068>.

 37 Also <01571> the LORD <03068> was angry <0599> with me for

your sakes <01558>, saying <0559>, Thou also <01571> shalt not

go <0935> in thither <08033>.

 38 [But] Joshua <03091> the son <01121> of Nun <05126>, which

standeth <05975> before <06440> thee, he shall go <0935> in

thither <08033>: encourage <02388> him: for he shall cause

Israel <03478> to inherit <02157> it.

 39 Moreover your little <02945> ones, which <0834> ye said

<0559> should be a prey <0957>, and your children <01121>, which

<0834> in that day <03117> had no <03808> knowledge <03045>

between good <02896> and evil <07451>, they shall go <0935> in

thither <08033>, and unto them will I give <05414> it, and they

shall possess <03423> it.

 40 But [as for] you, turn <06437> you, and take your journey

<05265> into the wilderness <04057> by the way <01870> of the

Red <05488> sea <03220>.

 41 Then ye answered <06030> and said <0559> unto me, We have

sinned <02398> against the LORD <03068>, we will go <05927> up

and fight <03898>, according to all <03605> that the LORD

<03068> our God <0430> commanded <06680> us. And when ye had

girded <02296> on every <0376> man <0376> his weapons <03627> of

war <04421>, ye were ready <01951> to go <05927> up into the

hill <02022>.

 42 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto me, Say <0559> unto

them, Go <05927> not up, neither <03808> fight <03898>; for I

[am] not among <07130> you; lest <03808> ye be smitten <05062>

before <06440> your enemies <0341>.

 43 So I spake <01696> unto you; and ye would not hear <08085>,

but rebelled <04784> against the commandment <06310> of the LORD

<03068>, and went <05927> presumptuously <02102> up into the

hill <02022>.

 44 And the Amorites <0567>, which dwelt <03427> in that

mountain <02022>, came <03318> out against <07125> you, and

chased <07291> you, as bees <01682> do <06213>, and destroyed

<03807> you in Seir <08165>, [even] unto Hormah <02767>.

 45 And ye returned <07725> and wept <01058> before <06440> the

LORD <03068>; but the LORD <03068> would not hearken <08085> to

your voice <06963>, nor <03808> give ear <0238> unto you.

 46 So ye abode <03427> in Kadesh <06946> many <07227> days

<03117>, according unto the days <03117> that ye abode <03427>

[there].

Deuteronomy 2

 1. Then we turned <06437>, and took <05265> our journey <05265>

into the wilderness <04057> by the way <01870> of the Red

<05488> sea <03220>, as the LORD <03068> spake <01696> unto me:

and we compassed <05437> mount <02022> Seir <08165> many <07227>

days <03117>.

 2 And the LORD <03068> spake <0559> unto me, saying <0559>,

 3 Ye have compassed <05437> this <02088> mountain <02022> long

<07227> enough: turn <06437> you northward <06828>.

 4 And command <06680> thou the people <05971>, saying <0559>,

Ye [are] to pass <05674> through the coast <01366> of your

brethren <0251> the children <01121> of Esau <06215>, which

dwell <03427> in Seir <08165>; and they shall be afraid <03372>

of you: take ye good <03966> heed <08104> unto yourselves

therefore:

 5 Meddle <01624> not with them; for I will not give <05414> you

of their land <0776>, no, not so much <05704> as a foot <07272>

breadth <04096>; because <03588> I have given <05414> mount

<02022> Seir <08165> unto Esau <06215> [for] a possession

<03425>.

 6 Ye shall buy <07666> meat <0400> of them for money <03701>,

that ye may eat <0398>; and ye shall also <01571> buy <03739>

water <04325> of them for money <03701>, that ye may drink

<08354>.

 7 For the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> hath blessed <01288> thee

in all <03605> the works <04639> of thy hand <03027>: he knoweth

<03045> thy walking <03212> through this <02088> great <01419>

wilderness <04057>: these <02088> forty <0705> years <08141> the

LORD <03068> thy God <0430> [hath been] with thee; thou hast

lacked <02637> nothing <03808>.

 8. And when we passed <05674> by from our brethren <0251> the

children <01121> of Esau <06215>, which dwelt <03427> in Seir

<08165>, through the way <01870> of the plain <06160> from Elath

<0359>, and from Eziongaber <06100>, we turned <06437> and

passed <05674> by the way <01870> of the wilderness <04057> of

Moab <04124>.

 9 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto me, Distress <06696>

not the Moabites <04124>, neither <0408> contend <01624> with

them in battle <04421>: for I will not give <05414> thee of

their land <0776> [for] a possession <03425>; because <03588> I

have given <05414> Ar <06144> unto the children <01121> of Lot

<03876> [for] a possession <03425>.

 10 The Emims <0368> dwelt <03427> therein in times past, a

people <05971> great <01419>, and many <07227>, and tall <07311>,

 as the Anakims <06062>;

 11 Which <01992> also <0637> were accounted <02803> giants

<07497>, as the Anakims <06062>; but the Moabites <04125> call

<07121> them Emims <0368>.

 12 The Horims <02752> also dwelt <03427> in Seir <08165>

beforetime <06440>; but the children <01121> of Esau <06215>

succeeded <03423> them, when they had destroyed <08045> them

from before <06440> them, and dwelt <03427> in their stead

<08478>; as Israel <03478> did <06213> unto the land <0776> of

his possession <03425>, which <0834> the LORD <03068> gave

<05414> unto them.

 13 Now <06258> rise <06965> up, [said I], and get <05674> you

over <05674> the brook <05158> Zered <02218>. And we went

<05674> over <05674> the brook <05158> Zered <02218>.

 14 And the space <03117> in which <0834> we came <01980> from

Kadeshbarnea <06947>, until <05704> we were come <05674> over

<05674> the brook <05158> Zered <02218>, [was] thirty <07970>

and eight <08083> years <08141>; until <05704> all <03605> the

generation <01755> of the men <0582> of war <04421> were wasted

<08552> out from among <07130> the host <04264>, as the LORD

<03068> sware <07650> unto them.

 15 For indeed <01571> the hand <03027> of the LORD <03068> was

against them, to destroy <02000> them from among <07130> the

host <04264>, until <05704> they were consumed <08552>.

 16 So it came <01961> to pass, when <0834> all <03605> the men

<0582> of war <04421> were consumed <08552> and dead <04191>

from among <07130> the people <05971>,

 17 That the LORD <03068> spake <01696> unto me, saying <0559>,

 18 Thou art to pass <05674> over <05674> through Ar <06144>,

the coast <01366> of Moab <04124>, this day <03117>:

 19 And [when] thou comest <07126> nigh <07126> over <04136>

against <04136> the children <01121> of Ammon <05983>, distress

<06696> them not, nor <0408> meddle <01624> with them: for I

will not give <05414> thee of the land <0776> of the children

<01121> of Ammon <05983> [any] possession <03425>; because

<03588> I have given <05414> it unto the children <01121> of Lot

<03876> [for] a possession <03425>.

 20 (That also <0637> was accounted <02803> a land <0776> of

giants <07497>: giants <07497> dwelt <03427> therein in old

<06440> time; and the Ammonites <05984> call <07121> them

Zamzummims;

 21 A people <05971> great <01419>, and many <07227>, and tall

<07311>, as the Anakims <06062>; but the LORD <03068> destroyed

<08045> them before <06440> them; and they succeeded <03423>

them, and dwelt <03427> in their stead <08478>:

 22 As he did <06213> to the children <01121> of Esau <06215>,

which dwelt <03427> in Seir <08165>, when <0834> he destroyed

<08045> the Horims <02752> from before <06440> them; and they

succeeded <03423> them, and dwelt <03427> in their stead <08478>

even unto this <02088> day <03117>:

 23 And the Avims <05757> which dwelt <03427> in Hazerim <02699>,

 [even] unto Azzah <05804>, the Caphtorims <03732>, which came

<03318> forth <03318> out of Caphtor <03731>, destroyed <08045>

them, and dwelt <03427> in their stead <08478>.)

 24. Rise <06965> ye up, take your journey <05265>, and pass

<05674> over <05674> the river <05158> Arnon <0769>: behold

<07200>, I have given <05414> into thine hand <03027> Sihon

<05511> the Amorite <0567>, king <04428> of Heshbon <02809>, and

his land <0776>: begin <02490> to possess <03423> [it], and

contend <01624> with him in battle <04421>.

 25 This <02088> day <03117> will I begin <02490> to put <05414>

the dread <06343> of thee and the fear <03374> of thee upon the

nations <05971> [that are] under <08478> the whole <03605>

heaven <08064>, who <0834> shall hear <08085> report <08088> of

thee, and shall tremble <07264>, and be in anguish <02342>

because <06440> of thee.

 26 And I sent <07971> messengers <04397> out of the wilderness

<04057> of Kedemoth <06932> unto Sihon <05511> king <04428> of

Heshbon <02809> with words <01697> of peace <07965>, saying

<0559>,

 27 Let me pass <05674> through thy land <0776>: I will go

<03212> along by the high <01870> way <01870>, I will neither

<03808> turn <05493> unto the right <03225> hand <03225> nor to

the left <08040>.

 28 Thou shalt sell <07666> me meat <0400> for money <03701>,

that I may eat <0398>; and give <05414> me water <04325> for

money <03701>, that I may drink <08354>: only <07535> I will

pass <05674> through on my feet <07272>;

 29 (As the children <01121> of Esau <06215> which dwell <03427>

in Seir <08165>, and the Moabites <04125> which dwell <03427> in

Ar <06144>, did <06213> unto me;) until <05704> I shall pass

<05674> over <05674> Jordan <03383> into <0413> the land <0776>

which <0834> the LORD <03068> our God <0430> giveth <05414> us.

 30 But Sihon <05511> king <04428> of Heshbon <02809> would

<014> not let us pass <05674> by him: for the LORD <03068> thy

God <0430> hardened <07185> his spirit <07307>, and made his

heart <03824> obstinate <0553>, that he might deliver <05414>

him into thy hand <03027>, as [appeareth] this <02088> day

<03117>.

 31 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto me, Behold <07200>, I

have begun <02490> to give <05414> Sihon <05511> and his land

<0776> before <06440> thee: begin <02490> to possess <03423>,

that thou mayest inherit <03423> his land <0776>.

 32 Then Sihon <05511> came <03318> out against <07125> us, he

and all <03605> his people <05971>, to fight <04421> at Jahaz

<03096>.

 33 And the LORD <03068> our God <0430> delivered <05414> him

before <06440> us; and we smote <05221> him, and his sons

<01121>, and all <03605> his people <05971>.

 34 And we took <03920> all <03605> his cities <05892> at that

time <06256>, and utterly destroyed <02763> the men <04962>, and

the women <0802>, and the little <02945> ones, of every <03605>

city <05892>, we left <07604> none <03808> to remain <08300>:

 35 Only <07535> the cattle <0929> we took for a prey <0962>

unto ourselves, and the spoil <07998> of the cities <05892>

which <0834> we took <03920>.

 36 From Aroer <06177>, which <0834> [is] by the brink <08193>

of the river <05158> of Arnon <0769>, and [from] the city

<05892> that [is] by the river <05158>, even unto Gilead <01568>,

 there was not one city <07151> too strong <07682> for us: the

LORD <03068> our God <0430> delivered <05414> all <03605> unto

us:

 37 Only <07535> unto the land <0776> of the children <01121> of

Ammon <05983> thou camest <07126> not, [nor] unto any <03605>

place <03027> of the river <05158> Jabbok <02999>, nor unto the

cities <05892> in the mountains <02022>, nor unto whatsoever

<03605> the LORD <03068> our God <0430> forbad <06680> us.

Deuteronomy 3

 1. Then we turned <06437>, and went <05927> up the way <01870>

to Bashan <01316>: and Og <05747> the king <04428> of Bashan

<01316> came <03318> out against <07125> us, he and all <03605>

his people <05971>, to battle <04421> at Edrei <0154>.

 2 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto me, Fear <03372> him

not: for I will deliver <05414> him, and all <03605> his people

<05971>, and his land <0776>, into thy hand <03027>; and thou

shalt do <06213> unto him as thou didst <06213> unto Sihon

<05511> king <04428> of the Amorites <0567>, which <0834> dwelt

<03427> at Heshbon <02809>.

 3 So the LORD <03068> our God <0430> delivered <05414> into our

hands <03027> Og <05747> also <01571>, the king <04428> of

Bashan <01316>, and all <03605> his people <05971>: and we smote

<05221> him until <05704> none <01115> was left <07604> to him

remaining <08300>.

 4 And we took <03920> all <03605> his cities <05892> at that

time <06256>, there was not a city <07151> which <0834> we took

<03947> not from them, threescore <08346> cities <05892>, all

<03605> the region <02256> of Argob <0709>, the kingdom <04467>

of Og <05747> in Bashan <01316>.

 5 All <03605> these <0428> cities <05892> [were] fenced <01219>

with high <01364> walls <02346>, gates <01817>, and bars <01280>;

 beside <0905> unwalled <06521> towns <05892> a great <03966>

many <07227>.

 6 And we utterly destroyed <02763> them, as we did <06213> unto

Sihon <05511> king <04428> of Heshbon <02809>, utterly

destroying <02763> the men <04962>, women <0802>, and children

<02945>, of every <03605> city <05892>.

 7 But all <03605> the cattle <0929>, and the spoil <07998> of

the cities <05892>, we took for a prey <0962> to ourselves.

 8 And we took <03947> at that time <06256> out of the hand

<03027> of the two <08147> kings <04428> of the Amorites <0567>

the land <0776> that [was] on this side <05676> Jordan <03383>,

from the river <05158> of Arnon <0769> unto mount <02022> Hermon

<02768>;

 9 ([Which] Hermon <02768> the Sidonians <06722> call <07121>

Sirion <08304>; and the Amorites <0567> call <07121> it Shenir

<08149>;)

 10 All <03605> the cities <05892> of the plain <04334>, and all

<03605> Gilead <01568>, and all <03605> Bashan <01316>, unto

Salchah <05548> and Edrei <0154>, cities <05892> of the kingdom

<04467> of Og <05747> in Bashan <01316>.

 11 For only <07535> Og <05747> king <04428> of Bashan <01316>

remained <07604> of the remnant <03499> of giants <07497>;

behold <02009>, his bedstead <06210> [was] a bedstead <06210> of

iron <01270>; [is] it not in Rabbath <07237> of the children

<01121> of Ammon <05983>? nine <08672> cubits <0520> [was] the

length <0753> thereof, and four <0702> cubits <0520> the breadth

<07341> of it, after the cubit <0520> of a man <0376>.

 12. And this <02063> land <0776>, [which] we possessed <03423>

at that time <06256>, from Aroer <06177>, which <0834> [is] by

the river <05158> Arnon <0769>, and half <02677> mount <02022>

Gilead <01568>, and the cities <05892> thereof, gave <05414> I

unto the Reubenites <07206> and to the Gadites <01425>.

 13 And the rest <03499> of Gilead <01568>, and all <03605>

Bashan <01316>, [being] the kingdom <04467> of Og <05747>, gave

<05414> I unto the half <02677> tribe <07626> of Manasseh

<04519>; all <03605> the region <02256> of Argob <0709>, with

all <03605> Bashan <01316>, which <01931> was called <07121> the

land <0776> of giants <07497>.

 14 Jair <02971> the son <01121> of Manasseh <04519> took

<03947> all <03605> the country <02256> of Argob <0709> unto the

coasts <01366> of Geshuri <01651> and Maachathi <04602>; and

called <07121> them after <05921> his own name <08034>,

Bashanhavothjair, unto this <02088> day <03117>.

 15 And I gave <05414> Gilead <01568> unto Machir <04353>.

 16 And unto the Reubenites <07206> and unto the Gadites <01425>

I gave <05414> from Gilead <01568> even unto the river <05158>

Arnon <0769> half <08432> the valley <05158>, and the border

<01366> even unto the river <05158> Jabbok <02999>, [which is]

the border <01366> of the children <01121> of Ammon <05983>;

 17 The plain <06160> also, and Jordan <03383>, and the coast

<01366> [thereof], from Chinnereth <03672> even unto the sea

<03220> of the plain <06160>, [even] the salt <04417> sea

<03220>, under <08478> Ashdothpisgah eastward <04217>.

 18 And I commanded <06680> you at that time <06256>, saying

<0559>, The LORD <03068> your God <0430> hath given <05414> you

this <02063> land <0776> to possess <03423> it: ye shall pass

<05674> over <05674> armed <02502> before <06440> your brethren

<0251> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, all <03605> [that

are] meet <01121> for the war <02438>.

 19 But your wives <0802>, and your little <02945> ones, and

your cattle <04735>, ([for] I know <03045> that ye have much

<07227> cattle <04735>,) shall abide <03427> in your cities

<05892> which <0834> I have given <05414> you;

 20 Until <05704> the LORD <03068> have given rest <05117> unto

your brethren <0251>, as well as unto you, and [until] they also

<01571> possess <03423> the land <0776> which <0834> the LORD

<03068> your God <0430> hath given <05414> them beyond <05676>

Jordan <03383>: and [then] shall ye return <07725> every man

<0376> unto his possession <03425>, which <0834> I have given

<05414> you.

 21. And I commanded <06680> Joshua <03091> at that time <06256>,

 saying <0559>, Thine eyes <05869> have seen <07200> all <03605>

that the LORD <03068> your God <0430> hath done <06213> unto

these <0428> two <08147> kings <04428>: so <03651> shall the

LORD <03068> do <06213> unto all <03605> the kingdoms <04467>

whither thou passest <05674>.

 22 Ye shall not fear <03372> them: for the LORD <03068> your

God <0430> he shall fight <03898> for you.

 23 And I besought <02603> the LORD <03068> at that time <06256>,

 saying <0559>,

 24 O Lord <0136> GOD <03069>, thou hast begun <02490> to shew

<07200> thy servant <05650> thy greatness <01433>, and thy

mighty <02389> hand <03027>: for what <04310> God <0410> [is

there] in heaven <08064> or in earth <0776>, that can do <06213>

according to thy works <04639>, and according to thy might

<01369>?

 25 I pray <04994> thee, let me go <05674> over <05674>, and see

<07200> the good <02896> land <0776> that [is] beyond <05676>

Jordan <03383>, that goodly <02896> mountain <02022>, and

Lebanon <03844>.

 26 But the LORD <03068> was wroth <05674> with me for your

sakes <06616>, and would not hear <08085> me: and the LORD

<03068> said <0559> unto me, Let it suffice <07227> thee; speak

<01696> no <0408> more <05750> unto me of this <02088> matter

<01697>.

 27 Get <05927> thee up into the top <07218> of Pisgah <06449>,

and lift <05375> up thine eyes <05869> westward <03220>, and

northward <06828>, and southward <08486>, and eastward <04217>,

and behold <07200> [it] with thine eyes <05869>: for thou shalt

not go <05674> over <05674> this <02088> Jordan <03383>.

 28 But charge <06680> Joshua <03091>, and encourage <02388> him,

 and strengthen <0553> him: for he shall go <05674> over <05674>

before <06440> this <02088> people <05971>, and he shall cause

them to inherit <05157> the land <0776> which <0834> thou shalt

see <07200>.

 29 So we abode <03427> in the valley <01516> over <04136>

against <04136> Bethpeor <01047>.

Deuteronomy 4

 1. Now <06258> therefore hearken <08085>, O Israel <03478>,

unto the statutes <02706> and unto the judgments <04941>, which

<0834> I teach <03925> you, for to do <06213> [them], that ye

may live <02421>, and go <0935> in and possess <03423> the land

<0776> which <0834> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of your fathers

<01> giveth <05414> you.

 2 Ye shall not add <03254> unto the word <01697> which <0834> I

command <06680> you, neither <03808> shall ye diminish <01639>

[ought] from it, that ye may keep <08104> the commandments

<04687> of the LORD <03068> your God <0430> which <0834> I

command <06680> you.

 3 Your eyes <05869> have seen <07200> what the LORD <03068> did

<06213> because of Baalpeor <01187>: for all <03605> the men

<0376> that followed Baalpeor <01187>, the LORD <03068> thy God

<0430> hath destroyed <08045> them from among <07130> you.

 4 But ye that did cleave <01695> unto the LORD <03068> your God

<0430> [are] alive <02416> every <03605> one of you this day

<03117>.

 5 Behold <07200>, I have taught <03925> you statutes <02706>

and judgments <04941>, even as the LORD <03068> my God <0430>

commanded <06680> me, that ye should do <06213> so <03651> in

the land <0776> whither ye go <0935> to possess <03423> it.

 6 Keep <08104> therefore and do <06213> [them]; for this

<01931> [is] your wisdom <02451> and your understanding <0998>

in the sight <05869> of the nations <05971>, which <0834> shall

hear <08085> all <03605> these <0428> statutes <02706>, and say

<0559>, Surely this <02088> great <01419> nation <01471> [is] a

wise <02450> and understanding <0995> people <05971>.

 7 For what <04310> nation <01471> [is there so] great <01419>,

who <0834> [hath] God <0430> [so] nigh <07126> unto them, as the

LORD <03068> our God <0430> [is] in all <03605> [things that] we

call <07121> upon him [for]?

 8 And what <04310> nation <01471> [is there so] great <01419>,

that hath statutes <02706> and judgments <04941> [so] righteous

<06662> as all <03605> this <02063> law <08451>, which <0834> I

set <05414> before <06440> you this day <03117>?

 9 Only <07535> take heed <08104> to thyself, and keep <08104>

thy soul <05315> diligently <03966>, lest <06435> thou forget

<07911> the things <01697> which <0834> thine eyes <05869> have

seen <07200>, and lest <06435> they depart <05493> from thy

heart <03824> all <03605> the days <03117> of thy life <02416>:

but teach <03045> them thy sons <01121>, and thy sons <01121>'

sons <01121>;

 10 [Specially] the day <03117> that thou stoodest <05975>

before <06440> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> in Horeb <02722>,

when the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto me, Gather <06950> me the

people <05971> together, and I will make them hear <08085> my

words <01697>, that they may learn <03925> to fear <03372> me

all <03605> the days <03117> that they shall live <02416> upon

the earth <0127>, and [that] they may teach <03925> their

children <01121>.

 11 And ye came <07126> near <07126> and stood <05975> under

<08478> the mountain <02022>; and the mountain <02022> burned

<01197> with fire <0784> unto the midst <03820> of heaven

<08064>, with darkness <06205>, clouds <06051>, and thick

darkness <06205>.

 12 And the LORD <03068> spake <01696> unto you out of the midst

<08432> of the fire <0784>: ye heard <08085> the voice <06963>

of the words <01697>, but saw <07200> no <0369> similitude

<08544>; only <02108> [ye heard <08085>] a voice <06963>.

 13 And he declared <05046> unto you his covenant <01285>, which

<0834> he commanded <06680> you to perform <06213>, [even] ten

<06235> commandments <01697>; and he wrote <03789> them upon two

<08147> tables <03871> of stone <068>.

 14 And the LORD <03068> commanded <06680> me at that time

<06256> to teach <03925> you statutes <02706> and judgments

<04941>, that ye might do <06213> them in the land <0776>

whither ye go <05674> over <05674> to possess <03423> it.

 15 Take ye therefore good <03966> heed <08104> unto yourselves

<05315>; for ye saw <07200> no <03808> manner of similitude

<08544> on the day <03117> [that] the LORD <03068> spake <01696>

unto you in Horeb <02722> out of the midst <08432> of the fire

<0784>:

 16 Lest <06435> ye corrupt <07843> [yourselves], and make

<06213> you a graven <06459> image, the similitude <08544> of

any <03605> figure <05566>, the likeness <08403> of male <02145>

or <0176> female <05347>,

 17 The likeness <08403> of any <03605> beast <0929> that [is]

on the earth <0776>, the likeness <08403> of any <03605> winged

<03671> fowl <06833> that flieth <05774> in the air <08064>,

 18 The likeness <08403> of any <03605> thing that creepeth

<07430> on the ground <0127>, the likeness <08403> of any

<03605> fish <01710> that [is] in the waters <04325> beneath

<08478> the earth <0776>:

 19 And lest <06435> thou lift <05375> up thine eyes <05869>

unto heaven <08064>, and when thou seest <07200> the sun <08121>,

 and the moon <03394>, and the stars <03556>, [even] all <03605>

the host <06635> of heaven <08064>, shouldest be driven <05080>

to worship <07812> them, and serve <05647> them, which <0834>

the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> hath divided <02505> unto all

<03605> nations <05971> under <08478> the whole <03605> heaven

<08064>.

 20 But the LORD <03068> hath taken <03947> you, and brought

<03318> you forth <03318> out of the iron <01270> furnace

<03564>, [even] out of Egypt <04714>, to be unto him a people

<05971> of inheritance <05159>, as [ye are] this <02088> day

<03117>.

 21 Furthermore the LORD <03068> was angry <0599> with me for

your sakes <01697>, and sware <07650> that I should not go

<05674> over <05674> Jordan <03383>, and that I should not go

<0935> in unto that good <02896> land <0776>, which <0834> the

LORD <03068> thy God <0430> giveth <05414> thee [for] an

inheritance <05159>:

 22 But I must die <04191> in this <02088> land <0776>, I must

not go <05674> over <05674> Jordan <03383>: but ye shall go

<05674> over <05674>, and possess <03423> that good <02896> land

<0776>.

 23 Take heed <08104> unto yourselves, lest <06435> ye forget

<07911> the covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068> your God <0430>,

 which <0834> he made with you, and make <06213> you a graven

<06459> image, [or] the likeness <08544> of any <03605> [thing],

which <0834> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> hath forbidden

<06680> thee.

 24 For the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> [is] a consuming <0398>

fire <0784>, [even] a jealous <07067> God <0410>.

 25 When <03588> thou shalt beget <03205> children <01121>, and

children's <01121> children <01121>, and ye shall have remained

<03462> long in the land <0776>, and shall corrupt <07843>

[yourselves], and make <06213> a graven <06459> image, [or] the

likeness <08544> of any <03605> [thing], and shall do <06213>

evil <07451> in the sight <05869> of the LORD <03068> thy God

<0430>, to provoke him to anger <03707>:

 26 I call <05749> heaven <08064> and earth <0776> to witness

<05749> against you this day <03117>, that ye shall soon <04116>

utterly perish <06> from off <05921> the land <0776> whereunto

<0834> ye go <05674> over <05674> Jordan <03383> to possess

<03423> it; ye shall not prolong <0748> [your] days <03117> upon

it, but shall utterly be destroyed <08045>.

 27 And the LORD <03068> shall scatter <06327> you among the

nations <05971>, and ye shall be left <07604> few <04962> in

number <04557> among the heathen <01471>, whither the LORD

<03068> shall lead <05090> you.

 28 And there <08033> ye shall serve <05647> gods <0430>, the

work <04639> of men's <0120> hands <03027>, wood <06086> and

stone <068>, which <0834> neither <03808> see <07200>, nor

<03808> hear <08085>, nor <03808> eat <0398>, nor <03808> smell

<07306>.

 29 But if from thence <08033> thou shalt seek <01245> the LORD

<03068> thy God <0430>, thou shalt find <04672> [him], if

<03588> thou seek <01875> him with all <03605> thy heart <03824>

and with all <03605> thy soul <05315>.

 30 When thou art in tribulation <06862>, and all <03605> these

<0428> things <01697> are come <04672> upon thee, [even] in the

latter <0319> days <03117>, if thou turn <07725> to the LORD

<03068> thy God <0430>, and shalt be obedient <08085> unto his

voice <06963>;

 31 (For the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> [is] a merciful <07349>

God <0410>;) he will not forsake <07503> thee, neither <03808>

destroy <07843> thee, nor <03808> forget <07911> the covenant

<01285> of thy fathers <01> which <0834> he sware <07650> unto

them.

 32 For ask <07592> now <04994> of the days <03117> that are

past <07223>, which <0834> were before <06440> thee, since

<04480> the day <03117> that God <0430> created <01254> man

<0120> upon the earth <0776>, and [ask] from the one side

<07097> of heaven <08064> unto the other, whether there hath

been <01961> [any such thing <01697>] as this <02088> great

<01419> thing <01697> [is], or <0176> hath been heard <08085>

like <03644> it?

 33 Did [ever] people <05971> hear <08085> the voice <06963> of

God <0430> speaking <01696> out of the midst <08432> of the fire

<0784>, as thou hast heard <08085>, and live <02421>?

 34 Or <0176> hath God <0430> assayed <05254> to go <0935> [and]

take <03947> him a nation <01471> from the midst <07130> of

[another] nation <01471>, by temptations <04531>, by signs

<0226>, and by wonders <04159>, and by war <04421>, and by a

mighty <02389> hand <03027>, and by a stretched <05186> out arm

<02220>, and by great <01419> terrors <04172>, according to all

<03605> that the LORD <03068> your God <0430> did <06213> for

you in Egypt <04714> before your eyes <05869>?

 35 Unto thee it was shewed <07200>, that thou mightest know

<03045> that the LORD <03068> he [is] God <0430>; [there is]

none <0369> else <05750> beside <0905> him.

 36 Out of heaven <08064> he made thee to hear <08085> his voice

<06963>, that he might instruct <03256> thee: and upon earth

<0776> he shewed <07200> thee his great <01419> fire <0784>; and

thou heardest <08085> his words <01697> out of the midst <08432>

of the fire <0784>.

 37 And because he loved <0157> thy fathers <01>, therefore he

chose <0977> their seed <02233> after <0310> them, and brought

<03318> thee out in his sight <06440> with his mighty <01419>

power <03581> out of Egypt <04714>;

 38 To drive <03423> out nations <01471> from before <06440>

thee greater <01419> and mightier <06099> than thou [art], to

bring <0935> thee in, to give <05414> thee their land <0776>

[for] an inheritance <05159>, as [it is] this <02088> day

 39 Know <03045> therefore <03767> this day <03117>, and

consider <07725> [it] in thine heart <03824>, that the LORD

<03068> he [is] God <0430> in heaven <08064> above <04605>, and

upon the earth <0776> beneath <08478>: [there is] none <0369>

else <05750>.

 40 Thou shalt keep <08104> therefore his statutes <02706>, and

his commandments <04687>, which <0834> I command <06680> thee

this day <03117>, that it may go well <03190> with thee, and

with thy children <01121> after <0310> thee, and that thou

mayest prolong <0748> [thy] days <03117> upon the earth <0127>,

which <0834> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> giveth <05414> thee,

 for ever.

 41. Then <0227> Moses <04872> severed <0914> three <07969>

cities <05892> on this side <05676> Jordan <03383> toward the

sunrising;

 42 That the slayer <07523> might flee <05127> thither <08033>,

which <0834> should kill <07523> his neighbour <07453> unawares,

and hated <08130> him not in times <08543> past <08032>; and

that fleeing <05127> unto one <0259> of these <0411> cities

<05892> he might live <02425>:

 43 [Namely], Bezer <01221> in the wilderness <04057>, in the

plain <04334> country <0776>, of the Reubenites <07206>; and

Ramoth <07216> in Gilead <01568>, of the Gadites <01425>; and

Golan <01474> in Bashan <01316>, of the Manassites <04520>.

 44 And this <02063> [is] the law <08451> which <0834> Moses

Israel <03478>:

 45 These <0428> [are] the testimonies <05713>, and the statutes

<02706>, and the judgments <04941>, which <0834> Moses <04872>

spake <01696> unto the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, after

they came <03318> forth <03318> out of Egypt <04714>,

 46 On this side <05676> Jordan <03383>, in the valley <01516>

over <04136> against <04136> Bethpeor <01047>, in the land

Deuteronomy 5

 1. And Moses <04872> called <07121> all <03605> Israel <03478>,

and said <0559> unto them, Hear <08085>, O Israel <03478>, the

statutes <02706> and judgments <04941> which <0834> I speak

<01696> in your ears <0241> this day <03117>, that ye may learn

<03925> them, and keep <08104>, and do <06213> them.

 2 The LORD <03068> our God <0430> made <03772> a covenant

<01285> with us in Horeb <02722>.

 3 The LORD <03068> made <03772> not this <02063> covenant

<01285> with our fathers <01>, but with us, [even] us, who

<0428> [are] all <03605> of us here <06311> alive <02416> this

day <03117>.

 4 The LORD <03068> talked <01696> with you face <06440> to face

<06440> in the mount <02022> out of the midst <08432> of the

fire <0784>,

 5 (I stood <05975> between <0996> the LORD <03068> and you at

that time <06256>, to shew <05046> you the word <01697> of the

LORD <03068>: for ye were afraid <03372> by reason <06440> of

the fire <0784>, and went <05927> not up into the mount <02022>;

 6. I [am] the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>, which <0834> brought

house <01004> of bondage <05650>.

 7 Thou shalt have <01961> none other <0312> gods <0430> before

me.

 8 Thou shalt not make <06213> thee [any <03605>] graven <06459>

image, [or] any <03605> likeness <08544> [of any <03605> thing]

that [is] in heaven <08064> above <04605>, or that [is] in the

 9 Thou shalt not bow <07812> down <07812> thyself unto them,

nor <03808> serve <05647> them: for I the LORD <03068> thy God

iniquity <05771> of the fathers <01> upon the children <01121>

 13 Six <08337> days <03117> thou shalt labour <05647>, and do

 14 But the seventh <07637> day <03117> [is] the sabbath <07676>

of the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>: [in it] thou shalt not do

<06213> any <03605> work <04399>, thou, nor thy son <01121>, nor

thy daughter <01323>, nor thy manservant <05650>, nor thy

maidservant <0519>, nor thine ox <07794>, nor thine ass <02543>,

nor any <03605> of thy cattle <0929>, nor thy stranger <01616>

 15 And remember <02142> that thou wast <01961> a servant

 16 Honour <03513> thy father <01> and thy mother <0517>, as the

LORD <03068> thy God <0430> hath commanded <06680> thee; that

thy days <03117> may be prolonged <0748>, and that it may go

well <03190> with thee, in the land <0127> which <0834> the LORD

<03068> thy God <0430> giveth <05414> thee.

 17 Thou shalt not kill <07523>.

 18 Neither <03808> shalt thou commit <05003> adultery <05003>.

 19 Neither <03808> shalt thou steal <01589>.

 20 Neither <03808> shalt thou bear <06030> false <07723>

witness <05707> against thy neighbour <07453>.

 21 Neither <03808> shalt thou desire <02530> thy neighbour's

<07453> wife <0802>, neither <03808> shalt thou covet <0185> thy

neighbour's <07453> house <01004>, his field <07704>, or his

manservant <05650>, or his maidservant <0519>, his ox <07794>,

 22 These <0428> words <01697> the LORD <03068> spake <01696>

unto all <03605> your assembly <06951> in the mount <02022> out

of the midst <08432> of the fire <0784>, of the cloud <06051>,

and of the thick darkness <06205>, with a great <01419> voice

<06963>: and he added <03254> no <03808> more <03254>. And he

wrote <03789> them in two <08147> tables <03871> of stone <068>,

and delivered <05414> them unto me.

 23. And it came <01961> to pass, when ye heard <08085> the

voice <06963> out of the midst <08432> of the darkness <02822>,

(for the mountain <02022> did burn <01197> with fire <0784>,)

that ye came <07126> near <07126> unto me, [even] all <03605>

the heads <07218> of your tribes <07626>, and your elders

<02205>;

 24 And ye said <0559>, Behold <02005>, the LORD <03068> our God

<0430> hath shewed <07200> us his glory <03519> and his

greatness <01433>, and we have heard <08085> his voice <06963>

out of the midst <08432> of the fire <0784>: we have seen

<07200> this <02088> day <03117> that God <0430> doth talk

<01696> with man <0120>, and he liveth <02425>.

 25 Now <06258> therefore why <04100> should we die <04191>? for

this <02063> great <01419> fire <0784> will consume <0398> us:

if <0518> we hear <08085> the voice <06963> of the LORD <03068>

our God <0430> any more <03254>, then we shall die <04191>.

 26 For who <04310> [is there of] all <03605> flesh <01320>,

that hath heard <08085> the voice <06963> of the living <02416>

God <0430> speaking <01696> out of the midst <08432> of the fire

<0784>, as we [have], and lived <02421>?

 27 Go <07126> thou near <07126>, and hear <08085> all <03605>

that the LORD <03068> our God <0430> shall say <0559>: and speak

<01696> thou unto us all <03605> that the LORD <03068> our God

<0430> shall speak <01696> unto thee; and we will hear <08085>

[it], and do <06213> [it].

 28 And the LORD <03068> heard <08085> the voice <06963> of your

words <01697>, when ye spake <01696> unto me; and the LORD

<03068> said <0559> unto me, I have heard <08085> the voice

<06963> of the words <01697> of this <02088> people <05971>,

which <0834> they have spoken <01696> unto thee: they have well

<03190> said all <03605> that they have spoken <01696>.

 29 O that there were such <02888> an heart <03824> in them,

that they would fear <03372> me, and keep <08104> all <03605> my

commandments <04687> always, that it might be well <03190> with

them, and with their children <01121> for ever <05769>!

 30 Go <03212> say <0559> to them, Get <07725> you into your

tents <0168> again <07725>.

 31 But as for thee, stand <05975> thou here <06311> by me, and

I will speak <01696> unto thee all <03605> the commandments

<04687>, and the statutes <02706>, and the judgments <04941>,

 32 Ye shall observe <08104> to do <06213> therefore as the LORD

turn <05493> aside to the right <03225> hand <03225> or to the

 33 Ye shall walk <03212> in all <03605> the ways <01870> which

Deuteronomy 6

 1. Now these <02063> [are] the commandments <04687>, the

statutes <02706>, and the judgments <04941>, which <0834> the

LORD <03068> your God <0430> commanded <06680> to teach <03925>

you, that ye might do <06213> [them] in the land <0776> whither

ye go <05674> to possess <03423> it:

 2 That thou mightest fear <03372> the LORD <03068> thy God

<0430>, to keep <08104> all <03605> his statutes <02708> and his

commandments <04687>, which <0834> I command <06680> thee, thou,

and thy son <01121>, and thy son's <01121> son <01121>, all

<03605> the days <03117> of thy life <02416>; and that thy days

<03117> may be prolonged <0748>.

 3 Hear <08085> therefore, O Israel <03478>, and observe <08104>

to do <06213> [it]; that it may be well <03190> with thee, and

that ye may increase <07235> mightily <03966>, as the LORD

<03068> God <0430> of thy fathers <01> hath promised <01696>

thee, in the land <0776> that floweth <02100> with milk <02461>

and honey <01706>.

 4. Hear <08085>, O Israel <03478>: The LORD <03068> our God

<0430> [is] one <0259> LORD <03068>:

 5 And thou shalt love <0157> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>

with all <03605> thine heart <03824>, and with all <03605> thy

soul <05315>, and with all <03605> thy might <03966>.

 6 And these words <01697>, which <0834> I command <06680> thee

this day <03117>, shall be in thine heart <03824>:

 7 And thou shalt teach <08150> them diligently <08150> unto thy

children <01121>, and shalt talk <01696> of them when thou

sittest <03427> in thine house <01004>, and when thou walkest

<03212> by the way <01870>, and when thou liest <07901> down

<07901>, and when thou risest <06965> up.

 8 And thou shalt bind <07194> them for a sign <0226> upon thine

hand <03027>, and they shall be as frontlets <02903> between

<0996> thine eyes <05869>.

 9 And thou shalt write <03789> them upon the posts <04201> of

thy house <01004>, and on thy gates <08179>.

 10 And it shall be, when <03588> the LORD <03068> thy God

<0430> shall have brought <0935> thee into <0413> the land

<0776> which <0834> he sware <07650> unto thy fathers <01>, to

Abraham <085>, to Isaac <03327>, and to Jacob <03290>, to give

<05414> thee great <01419> and goodly <02896> cities <05892>,

which <0834> thou buildedst <01129> not,

 11 And houses <01004> full <04392> of all <03605> good <02898>

[things], which <0834> thou filledst <04390> not, and wells

<0953> digged <02672>, which <0834> thou diggedst <02672> not,

vineyards <03754> and olive <02132> trees, which <0834> thou

plantedst <05193> not; when thou shalt have eaten <0398> and be

full <07646>;

 12 [Then] beware <08104> lest <06435> thou forget <07911> the

LORD <03068>, which <0834> brought <03318> thee forth <03318>

out of the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>, from the house <01004>

of bondage <05650>.

 13 Thou shalt fear <03372> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>, and

serve <05647> him, and shalt swear <07650> by his name <08034>.

 14 Ye shall not go <03212> after <0310> other <0312> gods

<0430>, of the gods <0430> of the people <05971> which <0834>

[are] round <05439> about you;

 15 (For the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> [is] a jealous <07067>

God <0410> among <07130> you) lest <06435> the anger <0639> of

the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> be kindled <02734> against thee,

and destroy <08045> thee from off <05921> the face <06440> of

the earth <0127>.

 16 Ye shall not tempt <05254> the LORD <03068> your God <0430>,

as ye tempted <05254> [him] in Massah <04532>.

 17. Ye shall diligently keep <08104> the commandments <04687>

of the LORD <03068> your God <0430>, and his testimonies <05713>,

 and his statutes <02706>, which <0834> he hath commanded

<06680> thee.

 18 And thou shalt do <06213> [that which <0834> is] right

<03477> and good <02896> in the sight <05869> of the LORD

<03068>: that it may be well <03190> with thee, and that thou

mayest go <0935> in and possess <03423> the good <02896> land

<0776> which <0834> the LORD <03068> sware <07650> unto thy

fathers <01>,

 19 To cast <01920> out all <03605> thine enemies <0341> from

before <06440> thee, as the LORD <03068> hath spoken <01696>.

 20 [And] when <03588> thy son <01121> asketh <07592> thee in

time <04279> to come <04279>, saying <0559>, What <04100> [mean]

the testimonies <05713>, and the statutes <02706>, and the

judgments <04941>, which <0834> the LORD <03068> our God <0430>

hath commanded <06680> you?

 21 Then thou shalt say <0559> unto thy son <01121>, We were

Pharaoh's <06547> bondmen <05650> in Egypt <04714>; and the LORD

<03068> brought <03318> us out of Egypt <04714> with a mighty

<02389> hand <03027>:

 22 And the LORD <03068> shewed <05414> signs <0226> and wonders

<04159>, great <01419> and sore <07451>, upon Egypt <04714>,

upon Pharaoh <06547>, and upon all <03605> his household <01004>,

 before our eyes <05869>:

 23 And he brought <03318> us out from thence <08033>, that he

might bring <0935> us in, to give <05414> us the land <0776>

which <0834> he sware <07650> unto our fathers <01>.

 24 And the LORD <03068> commanded <06680> us to do <06213> all

<03605> these <0428> statutes <02706>, to fear <03372> the LORD

<03068> our God <0430>, for our good <02896> always, that he

might preserve <02421> us alive <02421>, as [it is] at this

<02088> day <03117>.

 25 And it shall be our righteousness <06666>, if <03588> we

observe <08104> to do <06213> all <03605> these <02063>

commandments <04687> before <06440> the LORD <03068> our God

<0430>, as he hath commanded <06680> us.

Deuteronomy 7

 1. When <03588> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> shall bring

<0935> thee into <0413> the land <0776> whither thou goest

<0935> to possess <03423> it, and hath cast <05390> out many

<07227> nations <01471> before <06440> thee, the Hittites

<02850>, and the Girgashites <01622>, and the Amorites <0567>,

and the Canaanites <03669>, and the Perizzites <06522>, and the

Hivites <02340>, and the Jebusites <02983>, seven <07651>

nations <01471> greater <07227> and mightier <06099> than thou;

 2 And when the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> shall deliver

<05414> them before <06440> thee; thou shalt smite <05221> them,

[and] utterly destroy <02763> them; thou shalt make <03772> no

<03808> covenant <01285> with them, nor <03808> shew mercy

<02603> unto them:

 3 Neither <03808> shalt thou make marriages <02859> with them;

thy daughter <01323> thou shalt not give <05414> unto his son

<01121>, nor <03808> his daughter <01323> shalt thou take

<03947> unto thy son <01121>.

 4 For they will turn <05493> away thy son <01121> from

following <0310> me, that they may serve <05647> other <0312>

gods <0430>: so will the anger <0639> of the LORD <03068> be

kindled <02734> against you, and destroy <08045> thee suddenly

<04118>.

 5 But thus <03541> shall ye deal <06213> with them; ye shall

destroy <05422> their altars <04196>, and break <07665> down

their images <04676>, and cut <01438> down their groves <0842>,

and burn <08313> their graven <06456> images with fire <0784>.

 6 For thou [art] an holy <06918> people <05971> unto the LORD

<03068> thy God <0430>: the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> hath

chosen <0977> thee to be a special <05459> people <05971> unto

himself, above all <03605> people <05971> that [are] upon the

face <06440> of the earth <0127>.

 7 The LORD <03068> did <06213> not set his love <02836> upon

you, nor <03808> choose <0977> you, because ye were more <07230>

in number than any <03605> people <05971>; for ye [were] the

fewest <04592> of all <03605> people <05971>:

 8 But because <03588> the LORD <03068> loved <0160> you, and

because he would keep <08104> the oath <07621> which <0834> he

had sworn <07650> unto your fathers <01>, hath the LORD <03068>

brought <03318> you out with a mighty <02389> hand <03027>, and

redeemed <06299> you out of the house <01004> of bondmen <05650>,

 from the hand <03027> of Pharaoh <06547> king <04428> of Egypt

<04714>.

 9 Know <03045> therefore that the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>,

he [is] God <0430>, the faithful <0539> God <0410>, which <0834>

keepeth <08104> covenant <01285> and mercy <02617> with them

that love <0157> him and keep <08104> his commandments <04687>

to a thousand <0505> generations <01755>;

 10 And repayeth <07999> them that hate <08130> him to their

face <06440>, to destroy <06> them: he will not be slack <0309>

to him that hateth <08130> him, he will repay <07999> him to his

face <06440>.

 11 Thou shalt therefore keep <08104> the commandments <04687>,

and the statutes <02706>, and the judgments <04941>, which

<0834> I command <06680> thee this day <03117>, to do <06213>

them.

 12. Wherefore it shall come <01961> to pass, if <06112> ye

hearken <08085> to these <0428> judgments <04941>, and keep

<08104>, and do <06213> them, that the LORD <03068> thy God

<0430> shall keep <08104> unto thee the covenant <01285> and the

mercy <02617> which <0834> he sware <07650> unto thy fathers

<01>:

 13 And he will love <0157> thee, and bless <01288> thee, and

multiply <07235> thee: he will also bless <01288> the fruit

<06529> of thy womb <0990>, and the fruit <06529> of thy land

<0127>, thy corn <01715>, and thy wine <08492>, and thine oil

<03323>, the increase <07698> of thy kine <0504>, and the flocks

<06251> of thy sheep <06629>, in the land <0127> which <0834> he

sware <07650> unto thy fathers <01> to give <05414> thee.

 14 Thou shalt be blessed <01288> above all <03605> people

<05971>: there shall not be male or female <05347> barren

<06135> among you, or among your cattle <0929>.

 15 And the LORD <03068> will take <05493> away from thee all

<03605> sickness <02483>, and will put <07760> none <03808> of

the evil <07451> diseases <04064> of Egypt <04714>, which <0834>

thou knowest <03045>, upon thee; but will lay <05414> them upon

all <03605> [them] that hate <08130> thee.

 16 And thou shalt consume <0398> all <03605> the people <05971>

which <0834> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> shall deliver

<05414> thee; thine eye <05869> shall have no <03808> pity

<02347> upon them: neither <03808> shalt thou serve <05647>

their gods <0430>; for that [will be] a snare <04170> unto thee.

 17 If <03588> thou shalt say <0559> in thine heart <03824>,

These <0428> nations <01471> [are] more <07227> than I; how

<0349> can <03201> I dispossess <03423> them?

 18 Thou shalt not be afraid <03372> of them: [but] shalt well

remember <02142> what the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> did

<06213> unto Pharaoh <06547>, and unto all <03605> Egypt <04714>;

 19 The great <01419> temptations <04531> which <0834> thine

eyes <05869> saw <07200>, and the signs <0226>, and the wonders

<04159>, and the mighty <02389> hand <03027>, and the stretched

<05186> out arm <02220>, whereby <0834> the LORD <03068> thy God

<0430> brought <03318> thee out: so <03651> shall the LORD

<03068> thy God <0430> do <06213> unto all <03605> the people

<05971> of whom thou art afraid <03372>.

 20 Moreover <01571> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> will send

<07971> the hornet <06880> among them, until <05704> they that

are left <07604>, and hide <05641> themselves from thee, be

destroyed <06>.

 21 Thou shalt not be affrighted <06206> at <06440> them: for

the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> [is] among <07130> you, a mighty

<01419> God <0410> and terrible <03372>.

 22 And the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> will put <05394> out

those <0411> nations <01471> before <06440> thee by little

<04592> and little <04592>: thou mayest <03201> not consume

<03615> them at <04118> once <04118>, lest <06435> the beasts

<02416> of the field <07704> increase <07235> upon thee.

 23 But the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> shall deliver <05414>

them unto thee, and shall destroy <02000> them with a mighty

<01419> destruction <04103>, until <05704> they be destroyed

<08045>.

 24 And he shall deliver <05414> their kings <04428> into thine

hand <03027>, and thou shalt destroy <06> their name <08034>

from under <08478> heaven <08064>: there shall no <03808> man

<0375> be able <03320> to stand <03320> before <06440> thee,

until <05704> thou have destroyed <08045> them.

 25 The graven <06456> images of their gods <0430> shall ye burn

<08313> with fire <0784>: thou shalt not desire <02530> the

silver <03701> or gold <02091> [that is] on <05921> them, nor

take <03947> [it] unto thee, lest <06435> thou be snared <03369>

therein: for it [is] an abomination <08441> to the LORD <03068>

thy God <0430>.

 26 Neither <03808> shalt thou bring <0935> an abomination

<08441> into <0413> thine house <01004>, lest thou be a cursed

<02764> thing like <03644> it: [but] thou shalt utterly detest

<08262> it, and thou shalt utterly abhor <08581> it; for it [is]

a cursed <02764> thing.

Deuteronomy 8

 1. All <03605> the commandments <04687> which <0834> I command

<06680> thee this day <03117> shall ye observe <08104> to do

<06213>, that ye may live <02421>, and multiply <07235>, and go

<0935> in and possess <03423> the land <0776> which <0834> the

LORD <03068> sware <07650> unto your fathers <01>.

 2 And thou shalt remember <02142> all <03605> the way <01870>

which <0834> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> led <03212> thee

these <02088> forty <0705> years <08141> in the wilderness

<04057>, to humble <06031> thee, [and] to prove <05254> thee, to

know <03045> what [was] in thine heart <03824>, whether thou

wouldest keep <08104> his commandments <04687>, or no <03808>.

 3 And he humbled <06031> thee, and suffered thee to hunger

<07456>, and fed <0398> thee with manna <04478>, which <0834>

thou knewest <03045> not, neither <03808> did thy fathers <01>

know <03045>; that he might make thee know <03045> that man

<0120> doth not live <02421> by bread <03899> only <0905>, but

by every <03605> [word] that proceedeth <04161> out of the mouth

<06310> of the LORD <03068> doth man <0120> live <02421>.

 4 Thy raiment <08071> waxed not old <01086> upon thee, neither

<03808> did thy foot <07272> swell <01216>, these <02088> forty

<0705> years <08141>.

 5 Thou shalt also consider <03045> in thine heart <03824>, that,

 as a man <0376> chasteneth <03256> his son <01121>, [so] the

LORD <03068> thy God <0430> chasteneth <03256> thee.

 6 Therefore thou shalt keep <08104> the commandments <04687> of

the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>, to walk <03212> in his ways

<01870>, and to fear <03372> him.

 7 For the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> bringeth <0935> thee into

<0413> a good <02896> land <0776>, a land <0776> of brooks

<05158> of water <04325>, of fountains <05869> and depths

<08415> that spring <03318> out of valleys <01237> and hills

<02022>;

 8 A land <0776> of wheat <02406>, and barley <08184>, and vines

<01612>, and fig <08384> trees, and pomegranates <07416>; a land

<0776> of oil <08081> olive <02132>, and honey <01706>;

 9 A land <0776> wherein <0834> thou shalt eat <0398> bread

<03899> without <03808> scarceness <04544>, thou shalt not lack

<02637> any <03605> [thing] in it; a land <0776> whose <0834>

stones <068> [are] iron <01270>, and out of whose hills <02042>

thou mayest dig <02672> brass <05178>.

 10. When thou hast eaten <0398> and art full <07646>, then thou

shalt bless <01288> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> for the good

<02896> land <0776> which <0834> he hath given <05414> thee.

 11 Beware <08104> that thou forget <07911> not the LORD <03068>

thy God <0430>, in not keeping <08104> his commandments <04687>,

and his judgments <04941>, and his statutes <02708>, which

<0834> I command <06680> thee this day <03117>:

 12 Lest <06435> [when] thou hast eaten <0398> and art full

<07646>, and hast built <01129> goodly <02896> houses <01004>,

and dwelt <03427> [therein];

 13 And [when] thy herds <01241> and thy flocks <06629> multiply

<07235>, and thy silver <03701> and thy gold <02091> is

multiplied <07235>, and all <03605> that thou hast is multiplied

<07235>;

 14 Then thine heart <03824> be lifted <07311> up, and thou

forget <07911> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>, which brought

<03318> thee forth <04161> out of the land <0776> of Egypt

<04714>, from the house <01004> of bondage <05650>;

 15 Who led <03212> thee through that great <01419> and terrible

<03372> wilderness <04057>, [wherein were] fiery <08314>

serpents <05175>, and scorpions <06137>, and drought <06774>,

where <0834> [there was] no <0369> water <04325>; who brought

<03318> thee forth <04161> water <04325> out of the rock <06697>

of flint <02496>;

 16 Who fed <0398> thee in the wilderness <04057> with manna

<04478>, which <0834> thy fathers <01> knew <03045> not, that he

might humble <06031> thee, and that he might prove <05254> thee,

to do thee good <03190> at thy latter <0319> end;

 17 And thou say <0559> in thine heart <03824>, My power <03581>

and the might <06108> of [mine] hand <03027> hath gotten <06213>

me this <02088> wealth <02428>.

 18 But thou shalt remember <02142> the LORD <03068> thy God

<0430>: for [it is] he that giveth <05414> thee power <03581> to

get <06213> wealth <02428>, that he may establish <06965> his

covenant <01285> which <0834> he sware <07650> unto thy fathers

<01>, as [it is] this <02088> day <03117>.
