Acts   1

 1. The former <4413> treatise <3056> have I made <4160>, O

Theophilus <2321>, of all <3956> that Jesus <2424> began <756>

both

<5037> to do <4160> and teach <1321>,

 2  Until <891> the day <2250> in which <3739> he was taken <353>

up, after that he through <1223> the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> had

given commandments <1781> unto the apostles <652> whom <3739> he

had

chosen <1586>:

 3  To whom <3739> also <2532> he shewed <3936> himself <1438>

alive

<2198> after <3326> his passion <3958> by many <4183> infallible

proofs <5039>, being seen <3700> of them forty <5062> days

<2250>,

and speaking <3004> of the things pertaining <4012> to the

kingdom

<932> of God <2316>:

 4  And, being assembled <4871> together <4811> with [them],

commanded <3853> them that they should not depart <5562> from

Jerusalem <2414>, but wait <4037> for the promise <1860> of the

Father <3962>, which <3739>, [saith he], ye have heard <191> of

me.

 5  For John <2491> truly <3303> baptized <907> with water

<5204>;

but ye shall be baptized <907> with the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>

not

many <4183> days <2250> hence <5025>.

 6. When they therefore <3767> were come <4905> together <4905>,

they asked <1905> of him, saying <3004>, Lord <2962>, wilt thou

at

<1722> this <5129> time <5550> restore <600> again <600> the

kingdom

<932> to Israel <2474>?

 7  And he said <2036> unto them, It is not for you to know

<1097>

the times <5550> or <2228> the seasons <2540>, which <3739> the

Father <3962> hath put <5087> in his own <2398> power <1849>.

 8  But ye shall receive <2983> power <1411>, after that the Holy

<40> Ghost <4151> is come <1904> upon you: and ye shall be

witnesses

<3144> unto me both <5037> in Jerusalem <2419>, and in all <3956>

Judaea <2449>, and in Samaria <4540>, and unto the uttermost

<2078>

part of the earth <1093>.

 9  And when he had spoken <2036> these <5023> things, while they

beheld <991>, he was taken <1869> up; and a cloud <3507> received

<5274> him out of their sight <3788>.

 10  And while <5613> they looked <816> stedfastly <816> toward

<1519> heaven <3772> as he went <4198> up, behold <2400>, two

<1417>

men <435> stood <2936> by them in white <3022> apparel <2066>;

 11  Which <3739> also <2532> said <2036>, Ye men <435> of

Galilee

<1056>, why <5101> stand <2476> ye gazing <1689> up into <1519>

heaven <3772>? this <3778> same <3778> Jesus <2424>, which

<3588> is

taken <353> up from you into <1519> heaven <3772>, shall so

<3779>

come <2064> in like <3779> manner <5158> as ye have seen <2300>

him

go <4198> into <1519> heaven <3772>.

 12. Then <5119> returned <5290> they unto Jerusalem <2419> from

the

mount <3735> called <2564> Olivet <1638>, which <3739> is from

Jerusalem <2419> a sabbath <4521> day's journey <3598>.

 13  And when <3753> they were come <1525> in, they went <305> up

into <1519> an upper <5253> room <5253>, where <3757> abode

<2650>

both <5037> Peter <4074>, and James <2385>, and John <2491>, and

Andrew <406>, Philip <5376>, and Thomas <2381>, Bartholomew

<918>,

and Matthew <3156>, James <2385> [the son] of Alphaeus <256>, and

Simon <4613> Zelotes <2208>, and Judas <2455> [the brother] of

James

<2385>.

 14  These <3778> all <3956> continued <4342> with one <3661>

accord

<3661> in prayer <4335> and supplication <1162>, with the women

<1135>, and Mary <3137> the mother <3384> of Jesus <2424>, and

with

his brethren <80>.

 15. And in those <5025> days <2250> Peter <4074> stood <450> up

in

the midst <3319> of the disciples <3101>, and said <2036>, (the

number <3793> of names <3686> together <846> were about <5613> an

hundred <1540> and twenty <1501>,)

 16  Men <435> [and] brethren <80>, this <5026> scripture <1124>

must <1163> needs have been fulfilled <4137>, which <3739> the

Holy

<40> Ghost <4151> by the mouth <4750> of David <1138> spake

<4277>

before <4277> concerning <4012> Judas <2455>, which <3588> was

guide

<3595> to them that took <4815> Jesus <2424>.

 17  For he was numbered <2674> with us, and had obtained <2975>

part <2819> of this <5026> ministry <1248>.

 18  Now <3767> this <3778> man purchased <2932> a field <5564>

with

the reward <3408> of iniquity <93>; and falling <1096> headlong

<4248>, he burst <2997> asunder <2977> in the midst <3319>, and

all

<3956> his bowels <4698> gushed <1632> out.

 19  And it was known <1110> unto all <3956> the dwellers <2730>

at

Jerusalem <2419>; insomuch <5620> as that field <5564> is called

<2564> in their proper <2398> tongue <1258>, Aceldama <184>,

that is

to say, The field <5564> of blood <129>.

 20  For it is written <1125> in the book <976> of Psalms <5568>,

Let his habitation <1886> be desolate <2048>, and let no <3361>

man

dwell <2730> therein <846>: and his bishoprick <1984> let another

<2087> take <2983>.

 21  Wherefore <3767> of these <5130> men which have companied

<4905> with us all <3956> the time <5550> that the Lord <2962>

Jesus

<2424> went <1831> in and out among <1909> us,

 22  Beginning <756> from the baptism <908> of John <2491>, unto

that same day <2250> that he was taken <353> up from us, must

<1163>

one <1520> be ordained <1096> to be a witness <3144> with us of

his

resurrection <386>.

 23  And they appointed <2476> two <1417>, Joseph <2501> called

<2564> Barsabas <923>, who <3739> was surnamed <1941> Justus

<2459>,

and Matthias <3159>.

 24  And they prayed <4336>, and said <2036>, Thou, Lord <2962>,

which knowest <2589> the hearts <2589> of all <3956> [men], shew

<322> whether <1520> of these <5130> two <1417> thou hast chosen

<1586>,

 25  That he may take <2983> part <2819> of this <5026> ministry

<1248> and apostleship <651>, from which <3739> Judas <2455> by

transgression <3845> fell, that he might go <4198> to his own

<2398>

place <5117>.

 26  And they gave <1325> forth their lots <2819>; and the lot

<2819> fell <4098> upon Matthias <3159>; and he was numbered

<4785>

with the eleven <1733> apostles <652>.

Acts   2

 1. And when <3588> the day <2250> of Pentecost <4005> was fully

<4845> come <4845>, they were all <537> with one <3661> accord

<3661> in one <848> place.

 2  And suddenly <869> there came <1096> a sound <2279> from

heaven

<3772> as of a rushing <5342> mighty <972> wind <4157>, and it

filled <4137> all <3650> the house <3624> where <3757> they were

sitting <2521>.

 3  And there appeared <3700> unto them cloven <1266> tongues

<1100>

like <5616> as of fire <4442>, and it sat <2523> upon each

<1538> of

them.

 4  And they were all <537> filled <4130> with the Holy <40>

Ghost

<4151>, and began <756> to speak <2980> with other <2087> tongues

<1100>, as the Spirit <4151> gave <1325> them utterance <669>.

 5. And there were dwelling <2730> at <1722> Jerusalem <2419>

Jews

<2453>, devout <2126> men <435>, out of every <3956> nation

<1484>

under <5259> heaven <3772>.

 6  Now <1161> when this <5026> was noised <5408> abroad <5456>,

the

multitude <4128> came <4905> together <4905>, and were confounded

<4797>, because <3754> that every <1538> man <1520> heard <191>

them

speak <2980> in his own <2398> language <1258>.

 7  And they were all <3956> amazed <1839> and marvelled <2296>,

saying <3004> one <240> to another <240>, Behold <2400>, are not

all

<3956> these <3778> which <3588> speak <2980> Galilaeans <1057>?

 8  And how <4459> hear <191> we every <1538> man <1520> in our

own

<2398> tongue <1258>, wherein <3757> we were born <1080>?

 9  Parthians <3934>, and Medes <3370>, and Elamites <1639>, and

the

dwellers <2730> in Mesopotamia <3318>, and in Judaea <2449>, and

Cappadocia <2587>, in Pontus <4195>, and Asia <773>,

 10  Phrygia <5435>, and Pamphylia <3828>, in Egypt <125>, and in

the parts <3313> of Libya <3033> about <2596> Cyrene <2957>, and

strangers <1927> of Rome <4516>, Jews <2453> and proselytes

<4339>,

 11  Cretes <2912> and Arabians <690>, we do hear <191> them

speak

<2980> in our tongues <1100> the wonderful <3167> works of God

<2316>.

 12  And they were all <3956> amazed <1839>, and were in doubt

<1280>, saying <3004> one <243> to another <243>, What <5101>

meaneth <1511> this <5124>?

 13  Others <2087> mocking <5512> said <3004>, These men are full

<3325> of new <1098> wine <1098>.

 14. But Peter <4074>, standing <2476> up with the eleven <1733>,

lifted <1869> up his voice <5456>, and said <669> unto them, Ye

men

<435> of Judaea <2453>, and all <537> [ye] that dwell <2730> at

Jerusalem <2419>, be this <5124> known <1110> unto you, and

hearken

<1801> to my words <4487>:

 15  For these <3778> are not drunken <3184>, as ye suppose

<5274>,

seeing <1063> it is [but] the third <5154> hour <5610> of the day

<2250>.

 16  But this <5124> is that which was spoken <2046> by the

prophet

<4396> Joel <2493>;

 17  And it shall come <1511> to pass in the last <2078> days

<2250>, saith <3004> God <2316>, I will pour <1632> out of my

Spirit

<4151> upon all <3956> flesh <4561>: and your <5216> sons <5207>

and

your <5216> daughters <2364> shall prophesy <4395>, and your

<5216>

young <3495> men <3495> shall see <3070> visions <3706>, and your

<5216> old <4245> men shall dream <1798> dreams <1797>:

 18  And on <1909> my servants <1401> and on <1909> my

handmaidens

<1399> I will pour <1632> out in those <1565> days <2250> of my

Spirit <4151>; and they shall prophesy <4395>:

 19  And I will shew <1325> wonders <5059> in heaven <3772> above

<507>, and signs <4591> in the earth <1093> beneath <2736>; blood

<129>, and fire <4442>, and vapour <822> of smoke <2586>:

 20  The sun <2246> shall be turned <4762> into <1519> darkness

<4655>, and the moon <4582> into <1519> blood <129>, before

<2228>

that great <3173> and notable <2016> day <2250> of the Lord

<2962>

come <2064>:

 21  And it shall come <1511> to pass, [that] whosoever <3739>

shall

call <1941> on <1941> the name <3686> of the Lord <2962> shall be

saved <4982>.

 22  Ye men <435> of Israel <2475>, hear <191> these <5128> words

<3056>; Jesus <2424> of Nazareth <3478>, a man <435> approved

<584>

of God <2316> among <1519> you by miracles <1411> and wonders

<5059>

and signs <4591>, which <3739> God <2316> did <4160> by him in

the

midst <3319> of you, as ye yourselves <846> also <2532> know

<1492>:

 23  Him, being delivered <1560> by the determinate <3724>

counsel

<1012> and foreknowledge <4268> of God <2316>, ye have taken

<2983>,

and by wicked <459> hands <5495> have crucified <4362> and slain

<337>:

 24  Whom <3739> God <2316> hath raised <450> up, having loosed

<3089> the pains <5604> of death <2288>: because <2530> it was

not

possible <1415> that he should be holden <2902> of it.

 25  For David <1138> speaketh <3004> concerning <1519> him, I

foresaw <4308> the Lord <2962> always <3956> before <1799> my

face

<1799>, for he is on <1537> my right <1188> hand, that I should

not

be moved <4531>:

 26  Therefore <5124> did my heart <2588> rejoice <2165>, and my

tongue <1100> was glad <21>; moreover <2089> also <2532> my flesh

<4561> shall rest <2681> in hope <1680>:

 27  Because <3754> thou wilt not leave <1459> my soul <5590> in

hell <86>, neither <3761> wilt thou suffer <1325> thine <4675>

Holy

<3741> One to see <1492> corruption <1312>.

 28  Thou hast made <1107> known <1107> to me the ways <3598> of

life <2222>; thou shalt make <4137> me full <4137> of joy <2167>

with thy countenance <4383>.

 29  Men <435> [and] brethren <80>, let <1832> me freely <3954>

speak <2036> unto you of the patriarch <3966> David <1138>, that

he

is both <2532> dead <5053> and buried <2290>, and his sepulchre

<3418> is with us unto this <5026> day <2250>.

 30  Therefore <3767> being <5225> a prophet <4396>, and knowing

<1492> that God <2316> had sworn <3660> with an oath <3727> to

him,

that of the fruit <2590> of his loins <3751>, according <2596> to

the flesh <4561>, he would raise <450> up Christ <5547> to sit

<2523> on <1909> his throne <2362>;

 31  He seeing <4275> this before <4275> spake <2980> of the

resurrection <386> of Christ <5547>, that his soul <5590> was not

left <2641> in hell <86>, neither <3761> his flesh <4561> did see

<1492> corruption <1312>.

 32  This <5126> Jesus <2424> hath God <2316> raised <450> up,

whereof <3739> we all <3956> are witnesses <3144>.

 33  Therefore <3767> being by the right <1188> hand of God

<2316>

exalted <5312>, and having received <2983> of the Father <3962>

the

promise <1860> of the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>, he hath shed <1632>

forth <1632> this <5124>, which <3739> ye now <3568> see <991>

and

hear <191>.

 34  For David <1138> is not ascended <305> into <1519> the

heavens

<3772>: but he saith <3004> himself <846>, The LORD <2962> said

<2036> unto my Lord <2962>, Sit <2521> thou on <1537> my right

<1188> hand,

 35  Until <2193> I make <5087> thy foes <2190> thy footstool

<5286>.

 36  Therefore <3767> let all <3956> the house <3624> of Israel

<2474> know <1097> assuredly <806>, that God <2316> hath made

<4160>

that same <5126> Jesus <2424>, whom <3739> ye have crucified

<4717>,

both <2532> Lord <2962> and Christ <5547>.

 37. Now <1161> when they heard <191> [this], they were pricked

<2660> in their heart <2588>, and said <2036> unto Peter <4074>

and

to the rest <3062> of the apostles <652>, Men <435> [and]

brethren

<80>, what <5101> shall we do <4160>?

 38  Then <1161> Peter <4074> said <5346> unto them, Repent

<3340>,

and be baptized <907> every <1538> one of you in the name <3686>

of

Jesus <2424> Christ <5547> for the remission <859> of sins <266>,

and ye shall receive <2983> the gift <1431> of the Holy <40>

Ghost

<4151>.

 39  For the promise <1860> is unto you, and to your <5216>

children

<5043>, and to all <3956> that are afar <3112> off, [even] as

many

<3745> as the Lord <2962> our God <2316> shall call <4341>.

 40  And with many <4119> other <2087> words <3056> did he

testify

<1263> and exhort <3870>, saying <3004>, Save <4982> yourselves

from

this <5026> untoward <4646> generation <1074>.

 41  Then <3767> they that gladly <780> received <588> his word

<3056> were baptized <907>: and the same <1565> day <2250> there

were added <4369> [unto them] about <5616> three <5153> thousand

<5153> souls <5590>.

 42. And they continued <4342> stedfastly <4342> in the apostles

<652>' doctrine <1322> and fellowship <2842>, and in breaking

<2800>

of bread <740>, and in prayers <4335>.

 43  And fear <5401> came <1096> upon every <3956> soul <5590>:

and

many <4183> wonders <5059> and signs <4591> were done <1096> by

the

apostles <652>.

 44  And all <3956> that believed <4100> were together <846>, and

had <2192> all <537> things common <2839>;

 45  And sold <4097> their possessions <2933> and goods <5223>,

and

parted <1266> them to all <3956> [men], as every <5100> man had

<2192> need <5532>.

 46  And they, continuing <4342> daily <2250> with one <3661>

accord

<3661> in the temple <2411>, and breaking <2806> bread <740> from

house <3624> to house <3624>, did eat <3335> their meat <5160>

with

gladness <20> and singleness <858> of heart <2588>,

 47  Praising <134> God <2316>, and having <2192> favour <5485>

with

all <3650> the people <2992>. And the Lord <2962> added <4369> to

the church <1577> daily <2250> such as should be saved <4982>.

Acts   3

 1. Now <1161> Peter <4074> and John <2491> went <305> up

together

<846> into <1519> the temple <2411> at <1909> the hour <5610> of

prayer <4335>, [being] the ninth <1766> [hour].

 2  And a certain <5100> man <435> lame <5560> from his mother's

<3384> womb <2836> was carried <941>, whom <3739> they laid

<5087>

daily <2250> at <4314> the gate <2374> of the temple <2411> which

<3588> is called <3004> Beautiful <5611>, to ask <154> alms

<1654>

of them that entered <1531> into <1519> the temple <2411>;

 3  Who <3739> seeing <1492> Peter <4074> and John <2491> about

<3195> to go <1524> into <1519> the temple <2411> asked <2065> an

alms <1654>.

 4  And Peter <4074>, fastening <816> his eyes upon him with John

<2491>, said <2036>, Look <991> on <1519> us.

 5  And he gave <1907> heed <1907> unto them, expecting <4328> to

receive <2983> something <5100> of them.

 6  Then <1161> Peter <4074> said <2036>, Silver <694> and gold

<5553> have <5225> I none <3756>; but such as I have <2192> give

<1325> I thee: In the name <3686> of Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>

of

Nazareth <3478> rise <1453> up and walk <4043>.

 7  And he took <4084> him by the right <1188> hand <5495>, and

lifted <1453> [him] up: and immediately <3916> his feet <939> and

ankle <4974> bones <4974> received <4732> strength <4732>.

 8  And he leaping <1814> up stood <2476>, and walked <4043>, and

entered <1525> with them into <1519> the temple <2411>, walking

<4043>, and leaping <242>, and praising <134> God <2316>.

 9  And all <3956> the people <2992> saw <1492> him walking

<4043>

and praising <134> God <2316>:

 10  And they knew <1921> that it was he which <3588> sat <2521>

for

alms <1654> at <1909> the Beautiful <5611> gate <4439> of the

temple

<2411>: and they were filled <4130> with wonder <2285> and

amazement

<1611> at <1909> that which had happened <4819> unto him.

 11  And as the lame <5560> man which was healed <2390> held

<2902>

Peter <4074> and John <2491>, all <3956> the people <2992> ran

<4936> together <846> unto them in the porch <4745> that is

called

<2564> Solomon's <4672>, greatly <1569> wondering <1569>.

 12. And when Peter <4074> saw <1492> [it], he answered <611>

unto

the people <2992>, Ye men <435> of Israel <2475>, why <5101>

marvel

<2296> ye at <1909> this <5129>? or <2228> why <5101> look <816>

ye

so earnestly <816> on <1909> us, as though by our own <2398>

power

<1411> or <2228> holiness <2150> we had made <4160> this <846>

man

to walk <4043>?

 13  The God <2316> of Abraham <11>, and of Isaac <2464>, and of

Jacob <2384>, the God <2316> of our fathers <3962>, hath

glorified

<1392> his Son <3816> Jesus <2424>; whom <3739> ye delivered

<3860>

up, and denied <720> him in the presence <4383> of Pilate <4091>,

when he was determined <2919> to let <630> [him] go <630>.

 14  But ye denied <720> the Holy <40> One and the Just <1342>,

and

desired <154> a murderer <5406> to be granted <5483> unto you;

 15  And killed <615> the Prince <747> of life <2222>, whom

<3739>

God <2316> hath raised <1453> from the dead <3498>; whereof

<3739>

we are witnesses <3144>.

 16  And his name <3686> through <1909> faith <4102> in his name

<3686> hath made <4732> this <5026> man strong <4732>, whom

<3739>

ye see <2334> and know <1492>: yea <2532>, the faith <4102>

which is

by him hath given <1325> him this <5126> perfect <3647> soundness

<3647> in the presence <561> of you all <3956>.

 17  And now <3568>, brethren <80>, I wot <1492> that through

<2596>

ignorance <52> ye did <4238> [it], as [did] also <2532> your

<5216>

rulers <758>.

 18  But those things, which <3739> God <2316> before <4293> had

shewed <4293> by the mouth <4750> of all <3956> his prophets

<4396>,

that Christ <5547> should suffer <3958>, he hath so <3779>

fulfilled

<4137>.

 19  Repent <3340> ye therefore <3767>, and be converted <1994>,

that your <5216> sins <266> may be blotted <1813> out, when

<3704>

the times <2540> of refreshing <403> shall come <2064> from the

presence <4383> of the Lord <2962>;

 20  And he shall send <649> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>, which

before <4296> was preached <4296> unto you:

 21  Whom <3739> the heaven <3772> must <1163> receive <1209>

until

<891> the times <5550> of restitution <605> of all <3956> things,

which <3739> God <2316> hath spoken <2980> by the mouth <4750> of

all <3956> his holy <40> prophets <4396> since <575> the world

<165>

began.

 22  For Moses <3475> truly <3303> said <2036> unto the fathers

<3962>, A prophet <4396> shall the Lord <2962> your <5216> God

<2316> raise <450> up unto you of your <5216> brethren <80>, like

<3945> unto me; him shall ye hear <191> in all <3956> things

whatsoever <302> he shall say <2980> unto you.

 23  And it shall come <1511> to pass, [that] every <3956> soul

<5590>, which <302> will not hear <191> that prophet <4396>,

shall

be destroyed <1842> from among the people <2992>.

 24  Yea <1161>, and all <3956> the prophets <4396> from Samuel

<4545> and those <3588> that follow <2517> after <2517>, as many

<3745> as have spoken <2980>, have likewise <2532> foretold

<4293>

of these <5025> days <2250>.

 25  Ye are the children <5207> of the prophets <4396>, and of

the

covenant <1242> which <3739> God <2316> made <1303> with our

fathers

<3962>, saying <3004> unto Abraham <11>, And in thy seed <4690>

shall all <3956> the kindreds <3965> of the earth <1093> be

blessed

<1757>.

 26  Unto you first <4412> God <2316>, having raised <450> up his

Son <3816> Jesus <2424>, sent <649> him to bless <2127> you, in

turning <654> away <654> every <1538> one of you from his

iniquities

<4189>.

Acts   4

 1. And as they spake <2980> unto the people <2992>, the priests

<2409>, and the captain <4755> of the temple <2411>, and the

Sadducees <4523>, came <2186> upon them,

 2  Being grieved <1278> that they taught <1321> the people

<2992>,

and preached <2605> through <1722> Jesus <2424> the resurrection

<386> from the dead <3498>.

 3  And they laid <1911> hands <5495> on them, and put <5087>

[them]

in hold <5084> unto the next <839> day <839>: for it was now

<2236>

eventide <2073>.

 4  Howbeit many <4183> of them which heard <191> the word <3056>

believed <4100>; and the number <706> of the men <435> was about

<5616> five <4002> thousand <5505>.

 5. And it came <1096> to pass on <1909> the morrow <839>, that

their rulers <758>, and elders <4245>, and scribes <1122>,

 6  And Annas <452> the high <749> priest <749>, and Caiaphas

<2533>, and John <2491>, and Alexander <223>, and as many <3745>

as

were of the kindred <1085> of the high <749> priest <748>, were

gathered <4863> together <4863> at <1519> Jerusalem <2419>.

 7  And when they had set <2476> them in the midst <3319>, they

asked <4441>, By what <4169> power <1411>, or <2228> by what

<4169>

name <3686>, have ye done <4160> this <5124>?

 8  Then <5119> Peter <4074>, filled <4130> with the Holy <40>

Ghost

<4151>, said <2036> unto them, Ye rulers <758> of the people

<2992>,

and elders <4245> of Israel <2474>,

 9  If <1487> we this <4594> day <4594> be examined <350> of the

good <2108> deed <2108> done to the impotent <772> man <444>, by

what <5101> means he is made <4982> whole <4982>;

 10  Be it known <1110> unto you all <3956>, and to all <3956>

the

people <2992> of Israel <2474>, that by the name <3686> of Jesus

<2424> Christ <5547> of Nazareth <3478>, whom <3739> ye crucified

<4717>, whom <3739> God <2316> raised <1453> from the dead

<3498>,

[even] by him doth this man stand <3936> here <3936> before

<1799>

you whole <5199>.

 11  This is the stone <3037> which <3588> was set <1848> at

<1848>

nought <1848> of you builders <3618>, which <3588> is become

<1519>

the head <2776> of the corner <1137>.

 12  Neither <3756> is there salvation <4991> in any <3762> other

<243>: for there is none <3777> other <2087> name <3686> under

<5259> heaven <3772> given <1325> among <1722> men <444>, whereby

<3739> we must <1163> be saved <4982>.

 13  Now <1161> when they saw <2334> the boldness <3954> of Peter

<4074> and John <2491>, and perceived <2638> that they were

unlearned <62> and ignorant <2399> men <444>, they marvelled

<2296>;

and they took <1921> knowledge <1921> of them, that they had been

<2258> with Jesus <2424>.

 14  And beholding <991> the man <444> which was healed <2323>

standing <2476> with them, they could <2192> say <471> nothing

<3762> against <471> it.

 15. But when they had commanded <2753> them to go <565> aside

<565>

out of the council <4892>, they conferred <4820> among <4315>

themselves <240>,

 16  Saying <3004>, What <5101> shall we do <4160> to these

<5125>

men <444>? for that indeed <3303> a notable <1110> miracle <4592>

hath been done <1096> by them [is] manifest <5319> to all <3956>

them that dwell <2730> in Jerusalem <2419>; and we cannot <1410>

deny <720> [it].

 17  But that it spread <1268> no <3361> further <4208> among

<1519>

the people <2992>, let us straitly <547> threaten <546> them,

that

they speak <2980> henceforth <3371> to no <3367> man <444> in

this

<5129> name <3686>.

 18  And they called <2564> them, and commanded <3853> them not

to

speak <5350> at <2527> all <2527> nor <3366> teach <1321> in the

name <3686> of Jesus <2424>.

 19  But Peter <4074> and John <2491> answered <611> and said

<2036>

unto them, Whether <1487> it be right <1342> in the sight <1799>

of

God <2316> to hearken <191> unto you more <3123> than <2228> unto

God <2316>, judge <2919> ye.

 20  For we cannot <1410> but speak <2980> the things which

<3739>

we have seen <1492> and heard <191>.

 21  So <1161> when they had further threatened <4324> them, they

let them go <630>, finding <2147> nothing <3367> how <4459> they

might punish <2849> them, because <1223> of the people <2992>:

for

all <3956> [men] glorified <1392> God <2316> for that which was

done

<1096>.

 22  For the man <444> was above <4117> forty <5062> years <2094>

old, on <1909> whom <3739> this <5124> miracle <4592> of healing

<2392> was shewed <1096>.

 23. And being let go <630>, they went <2064> to their own <2398>

company <2398>, and reported <518> all <3745> that the chief

<749>

priests <749> and elders <4245> had said <2036> unto them.

 24  And when they heard <191> that, they lifted <142> up their

voice <5456> to God <2316> with one <3661> accord <3661>, and

said

<2036>, Lord <1203>, thou [art] God <2316>, which <3588> hast

made

<4160> heaven <3772>, and earth <1093>, and the sea <2281>, and

all

<3956> that in them is:

 25  Who <3588> by the mouth <4750> of thy servant <3816> David

<1138> hast said <2036>, Why <2444> did the heathen <1484> rage

<5433>, and the people <2992> imagine <3191> vain <2756> things?

 26  The kings <935> of the earth <1093> stood <3936> up, and the

rulers <758> were gathered <4863> together <846> against <2596>

the

Lord <2962>, and against <2596> his Christ <5547>.

 27  For of a truth <225> against <1909> thy holy <40> child

<3816>

Jesus <2424>, whom <3739> thou hast anointed <5548>, both <5037>

Herod <2264>, and Pontius <4194> Pilate <4091>, with the Gentiles

<1484>, and the people <2992> of Israel <2474>, were gathered

<4863>

together <4863>,

 28  For to do <4160> whatsoever <3745> thy hand <5495> and thy

counsel <1012> determined <4309> before <4309> to be done <1096>.

 29  And now <3568>, Lord <2962>, behold <1896> their

threatenings

<547>: and grant <1325> unto thy servants <1401>, that with all

<3956> boldness <3954> they may speak <2980> thy word <3056>,

 30  By stretching <1614> forth <1614> thine <4675> hand <5495>

to

heal <2392>; and that signs <4591> and wonders <5059> may be done

<1096> by the name <3686> of thy holy <40> child <3816> Jesus

<2424>.

 31  And when they had prayed <1189>, the place <5117> was shaken

<4531> where <3739> they were assembled <4863> together <4863>;

and

they were all <537> filled <4130> with the Holy <40> Ghost

<4151>,

and they spake <2980> the word <3056> of God <2316> with boldness

<3954>.

 32. And the multitude <4128> of them that believed <4100> were

of

one heart <2588> and of one <3391> soul <5590>: neither <3761>

said

<3004> any <1520> [of them] that ought <5100> of the things

which he

possessed <5224> was his own <2398>; but they had <1510> all

<537>

things common <2839>.

 33  And with great <3173> power <1411> gave <591> the apostles

<652> witness <3142> of the resurrection <386> of the Lord <2962>

Jesus <2424>: and great <3173> grace <5485> was upon them all

<3956>.

 34  Neither <3761> was there any <5100> among <1722> them that

lacked <1729>: for as many <3745> as were possessors <2935> of

lands

<5564> or <2228> houses <3614> sold <4453> them, and brought

<5342>

the prices <5092> of the things that were sold <4097>,

 35  And laid <5087> [them] down at <3844> the apostles <652>'

feet

<4228>: and distribution <1239> was made <1239> unto every <1538>

man according <2530> as he had <2192> need <5532>.

 36  And Joses <2500>, who <3588> by the apostles <652> was

surnamed

<1941> Barnabas <921>, (which is, being interpreted <3177>, The

son

<5207> of consolation <3874>,) a Levite <3019>, [and] of the

country

<1085> of Cyprus <2954>,

 37  Having <846> land <68>, sold <4453> [it], and brought <5342>

the money <5536>, and laid <5087> [it] at <3844> the apostles

<652>'

feet <4228>.

Acts   5

 1. But a certain <5100> man <435> named <3686> Ananias <367>,

with

Sapphira <4551> his wife <1135>, sold <4453> a possession <2933>,

 2  And kept <3557> back <3557> [part] of the price <5092>, his

wife

<1135> also <2532> being privy <4894> [to it], and brought

<5342> a

certain <5100> part <3313>, and laid <5087> [it] at <3844> the

apostles <652>' feet <4228>.

 3  But Peter <4074> said <2036>, Ananias <367>, why <1302> hath

Satan <4567> filled <4137> thine <4675> heart <2588> to lie

<5574>

to the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>, and to keep <3557> back <3557>

[part]

of the price <5092> of the land <5564>?

 4  Whiles it remained <3306>, was it not thine <4671> own? and

after it was sold <4097>, was it not in thine <4674> own power

<1849>? why <5101> hast thou conceived <5087> this <5124> thing

<4229> in thine <4675> heart <2588>? thou hast not lied <5574>

unto

men <444>, but unto God <2316>.

 5  And Ananias <367> hearing <191> these <5128> words <3056>

fell

<4098> down, and gave up the ghost <1634>: and great <3173> fear

<5401> came <1096> on <1909> all <3956> them that heard <191>

these

<5023> things.

 6  And the young <3501> men arose <450>, wound <4958> him up,

and

carried <1627> [him] out, and buried <2290> [him].

 7  And it was about <5613> the space <1292> of three <5140>

hours

<5610> after, when his wife <1135>, not knowing <1492> what

<3588>

was done <1096>, came <1525> in.

 8  And Peter <4074> answered <611> unto her, Tell <2036> me

whether

<1487> ye sold <591> the land <5564> for so <5118> much <5118>?

And

she said <2036>, Yea <3483>, for so <5118> much <5118>.

 9  Then <1161> Peter <4074> said <2036> unto her, How <5101> is

it

that ye have agreed <4856> together <4856> to tempt <3985> the

Spirit <4151> of the Lord <2962>? behold <2400>, the feet <4228>

of

them which have buried <2290> thy husband <435> [are] at <1909>

the

door <2374>, and shall carry <1627> thee out.

 10  Then <1161> fell <4098> she down straightway <3916> at

<3844>

his feet <4228>, and yielded <1634> up the ghost <1634>: and the

young <3495> men <3495> came <1525> in, and found <2147> her dead

<3498>, and, carrying <1627> [her] forth <1627>, buried <2290>

[her]

by her husband <435>.

 11  And great <3173> fear <5401> came <1096> upon all <3650> the

church <1577>, and upon as many as heard <191> these <5023>

things.

 12. And by the hands <5495> of the apostles <652> were many

<4183>

signs <4591> and wonders <5059> wrought <1096> among <1722> the

people <2992>; (and they were all <537> with one <3661> accord

<3661> in Solomon's <4672> porch <4745>.

 13  And of the rest <3062> durst <5111> no <3762> man <3762>

join

<2853> himself to them: but the people <2992> magnified <3170>

them.

 14  And believers <4100> were the more <3123> added <4369> to

the

Lord <2962>, multitudes <4128> both <5037> of men <435> and women

<1135>.)

 15  Insomuch <5620> that they brought <1627> forth <1627> the

sick

<772> into <2596> the streets <4113>, and laid <5087> [them] on

<1909> beds <2825> and couches <2895>, that at <2579> the least

<2579> the shadow <4639> of Peter <4074> passing <2064> by might

overshadow <1982> some <5100> of them.

 16  There came <4905> also <2532> a multitude <4128> [out] of

the

cities <4172> round <4038> about <4038> unto Jerusalem <2419>,

bringing <5342> sick <772> folks, and them which were vexed

<3791>

with unclean <169> spirits <4151>: and they were healed <2323>

every

<537> one.

 17. Then <1161> the high <749> priest <749> rose <450> up, and

all

<3956> they that were with him, (which is the sect <139> of the

Sadducees <4523>,) and were filled <4137> with indignation

<2205>,

 18  And laid <1911> their hands <5495> on <1909> the apostles

<652>, and put <5087> them in the common <1219> prison <5084>.

 19  But the angel <32> of the Lord <2962> by night <3571> opened

<455> the prison <5438> doors <2374>, and brought <1806> them

forth

<1806>, and said <2036>,

 20  Go <4198>, stand <2476> and speak <2980> in the temple

<2411>

to the people <2992> all <3956> the words <4487> of this <5026>

life

<2222>.

 21  And when they heard <191> [that], they entered <1525> into

<1519> the temple <2411> early <3722> in the morning, and taught

<1321>. But the high <749> priest <749> came <3854>, and they

that

were with him, and called <4779> the council <4892> together

<4779>,

and all <3956> the senate <1087> of the children <5207> of Israel

<2474>, and sent <649> to the prison <1201> to have them brought

<71>.

 22  But when the officers <5257> came <3854>, and found <2147>

them

not in the prison <5438>, they returned <390>, and told <518>,

 23  Saying <3004>, The prison <1201> truly <3303> found <2147>

we

shut <2808> with all <3956> safety <803>, and the keepers <5441>

standing <2476> without <1854> before <4253> the doors <2374>:

but

when we had opened <455>, we found <2147> no <3762> man <3762>

within <2080>.

 24  Now <1161> when <5613> the high <2409> priest <749> and the

captain <4755> of the temple <2411> and the chief <749> priests

<749> heard <191> these <5128> things <3056>, they doubted

<1280> of

them whereunto <5101> this <5124> would grow <1096>.

 25  Then <1161> came <3854> one <5100> and told <518> them,

saying

<3004>, Behold <2400>, the men <435> whom <3739> ye put <5087> in

prison <5438> are standing <2476> in the temple <2411>, and

teaching

<1321> the people <2992>.

 26. Then <5119> went <565> the captain <4755> with the officers

<5257>, and brought <71> them without <3326> violence <970>: for

they feared <5399> the people <2992>, lest <3361> they should

have

been stoned <3034>.

 27  And when they had brought <71> them, they set <2476> [them]

before <1722> the council <4892>: and the high <749> priest <749>

asked <1905> them,

 28  Saying <3004>, Did not we straitly command <3853> you that

ye

should not teach <1321> in this <5129> name <3686>? and, behold

<2400>, ye have filled <4137> Jerusalem <2419> with your <5216>

doctrine <1322>, and intend <1014> to bring <1863> this <5127>

man's

<444> blood <129> upon us.

 29  Then <1161> Peter <4074> and the [other] apostles <652>

answered <611> and said <2036>, We ought <1163> to obey <3980>

God

<2316> rather <3123> than <2228> men <444>.

 30  The God <2316> of our fathers <3962> raised <1453> up Jesus

<2424>, whom <3739> ye slew <1315> and hanged <2910> on <1909> a

tree <3586>.

 31  Him hath God <2316> exalted <5312> with his right <1188>

hand

[to be] a Prince <747> and a Saviour <4990>, for to give <1325>

repentance <3341> to Israel <2474>, and forgiveness <859> of sins

<266>.

 32  And we are his witnesses <3144> of these <5130> things

<4487>;

and [so is] also <2532> the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>, whom <3739>

God

<2316> hath given <1325> to them that obey <3980> him.

 33  When they heard <191> [that], they were cut <1282> [to the

heart], and took <1011> counsel <1011> to slay <337> them.

 34  Then <1161> stood <450> there up one <5100> in the council

<4892>, a Pharisee <5330>, named <3686> Gamaliel <1059>, a doctor

<3547> of the law <3547>, had in reputation <5093> among all

<3956>

the people <2992>, and commanded <2753> to put <4160> the

apostles

<652> forth <1854> a little <1024> space <1024>;

 35  And said <2036> unto them, Ye men <435> of Israel <2475>,

take

heed <4337> to yourselves <1438> what <5101> ye intend <3195> to

do

<4238> as touching <1909> these <5125> men <444>.

 36  For before <4253> these <5130> days <2250> rose <450> up

Theudas <2333>, boasting <3004> himself <1438> to be somebody

<5100>; to whom <3739> a number <706> of men <435>, about <5616>

four hundred <5071>, joined <4347> themselves: who <3739> was

slain

<337>; and all <3956>, as many <3745> as obeyed <3982> him, were

scattered <1262>, and brought <1096> to nought <3762>.

 37  After <3326> this <5126> man rose <450> up Judas <2455> of

Galilee <1056> in the days <2250> of the taxing <583>, and drew

<868> away <868> much <2425> people <2992> after <3694> him: he

also

<2548> perished <622>; and all <3956>, [even] as many <3745> as

obeyed <3982> him, were dispersed <1287>.

 38  And now <3568> I say <3004> unto you, Refrain <868> from

these

<5130> men <444>, and let <1439> them alone <1439>: for if <1437>

this <5124> counsel <1012> or <2228> this <5124> work <2041> be

of

men <444>, it will come <2647> to nought <2647>:

 39  But if <1487> it be of God <2316>, ye cannot <1410>

overthrow

<2647> it; lest <3379> haply <3379> ye be found <2147> even

<2532>

to fight <2314> against God <2314>.

 40  And to him they agreed <3982>: and when they had called

<4341>

the apostles <652>, and beaten <1194> [them], they commanded

<3853>

that they should not speak <2980> in the name <3686> of Jesus

<2424>, and let <630> them go <630>.

 41  And they departed <4198> from the presence <4383> of the

council <4892>, rejoicing <5463> that they were counted <2661>

worthy <2661> to suffer <818> shame for his name <3686>.

 42  And daily <2250> in the temple <2411>, and in every <2596>

house <3624>, they ceased <3973> not to teach <1321> and preach

<2097> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>.

Acts   6

 1. And in those <5025> days <2250>, when the number of the

disciples <3101> was multiplied <4129>, there arose <1096> a

murmuring <1112> of the Grecians <1675> against <4314> the

Hebrews

<1445>, because <3754> their widows <5503> were neglected <3865>

in

the daily <2522> ministration <1248>.

 2  Then <1161> the twelve <1427> called <4341> the multitude

<4128>

of the disciples <3101> [unto them], and said <2036>, It is not

reason <701> that we should leave <2641> the word <3056> of God

<2316>, and serve <1247> tables <5132>.

 3  Wherefore <3767>, brethren <80>, look <1980> ye out among

<1537>

you seven <2033> men <435> of honest report <3140>, full <4134>

of

the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> and wisdom <4678>, whom <3739> we may

appoint <2525> over <1909> this <5026> business <5532>.

 4  But we will give <4342> ourselves continually <4342> to

prayer

<4335>, and to the ministry <1248> of the word <3056>.

 5  And the saying <3056> pleased <700> the whole <3956>

multitude

<4128>: and they chose <1586> Stephen <4736>, a man <435> full

<4134> of faith <4102> and of the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>, and

Philip

<5376>, and Prochorus <4402>, and Nicanor <3527>, and Timon

<5096>,

and Parmenas <3937>, and Nicolas <3532> a proselyte <4339> of

Antioch <491>:

 6  Whom <3739> they set <2476> before <1799> the apostles <652>:

and when they had prayed <4336>, they laid <2007> [their] hands

<5495> on <2007> them.

 7  And the word <3056> of God <2316> increased <837>; and the

number <706> of the disciples <3101> multiplied <4129> in

Jerusalem

<2419> greatly <4970>; and a great <4183> company <3793> of the

priests <2409> were obedient <5219> to the faith <4102>.

 8. And Stephen <4736>, full <4134> of faith <4102> and power

<1411>, did <4160> great <3173> wonders <5059> and miracles

<4592>

among <1722> the people <2992>.

 9  Then <1161> there arose <450> certain <5100> of the synagogue

<4864>, which <3588> is called <3004> [the synagogue <4864>] of

the

Libertines <3032>, and Cyrenians <2956>, and Alexandrians <221>,

and

of them of Cilicia <2791> and of Asia <773>, disputing <4802>

with

Stephen <4736>.

 10  And they were not able <2480> to resist <436> the wisdom

<4678>

and the spirit <4151> by which <3739> he spake <2980>.

 11  Then <5119> they suborned <5260> men <435>, which said

<3004>,

We have heard <191> him speak <2980> blasphemous <989> words

<4487>

against <1519> Moses <3475>, and [against] God <2316>.

 12  And they stirred <4787> up the people <2992>, and the elders

<4245>, and the scribes <1122>, and came <2186> upon [him], and

caught <4884> him, and brought <71> [him] to the council <4892>,

 13  And set <2476> up false <5571> witnesses <3144>, which said

<3004>, This <5127> man <444> ceaseth <3973> not to speak <2980>

blasphemous <989> words <4487> against <2596> this <3778> holy

<40>

place <5117>, and the law <3551>:

 14  For we have heard <191> him say <3004>, that this <5126>

Jesus

<2424> of Nazareth <3478> shall destroy <2647> this <3778> place

<5117>, and shall change <236> the customs <1485> which <3739>

Moses

<3475> delivered <3860> us.

 15  And all <537> that sat <2516> in the council <4892>, looking

<816> stedfastly <816> on <1519> him, saw <1492> his face <4383>

as

it had been the face <4383> of an angel <32>.

Acts   7

 1. Then <1161> said <2036> the high <749> priest <749>, Are

these

<5023> things so <3779>?

 2  And he said <5346>, Men <435>, brethren <80>, and fathers

<3962>, hearken <191>; The God <2316> of glory <1391> appeared

<3700> unto our father <3962> Abraham <11>, when he was in

Mesopotamia <3318>, before <2228> he dwelt <2730> in Charran

<5488>,

 3  And said <2036> unto him, Get <1831> thee out of thy country

<1093>, and from thy kindred <4772>, and come <1204> into <1519>

the

land <1093> which <3739> I shall shew <1166> thee.

 4  Then <5119> came <1831> he out of the land <1093> of the

Chaldaeans <5466>, and dwelt <2730> in Charran <5488>: and from

thence <1564>, when <3326> his father <3962> was dead <599>, he

removed <3351> him into <1519> this <5026> land <1093>, wherein

<3757> ye now <3568> dwell <2730>.

 5  And he gave <1325> him none <3756> inheritance <2817> in it,

no,

not [so much as] to set <968> his foot <4228> on: yet <2532> he

promised <1861> that he would give <1325> it to him for a

possession

<2697>, and to his seed <4690> after <3326> him, when [as yet] he

had <5607> no <3756> child <5043>.

 6  And God <2316> spake <2980> on this <3779> wise <3779>, That

his

seed <4690> should sojourn <3941> in a strange <245> land <1093>;

and that they should bring <1402> them into bondage <1402>, and

entreat <2559> [them] evil <2559> four hundred <5071> years

<2094>.

 7  And the nation <1484> to whom <3739> they shall be in bondage

<1398> will I judge <2919>, said <2036> God <2316>: and after

<3326>

that shall they come <1834> forth <1831>, and serve <3000> me in

this <5129> place <5117>.

 8  And he gave <1325> him the covenant <1242> of circumcision

<4061>: and so <3779> [Abraham] begat <1080> Isaac <2464>, and

circumcised <4059> him the eighth <3590> day <2250>; and Isaac

<2464> [begat] Jacob <2384>; and Jacob <2384> [begat] the twelve

<1427> patriarchs <3966>.

 9  And the patriarchs <3966>, moved <2206> with envy <2206>,

sold

<591> Joseph <2501> into <1519> Egypt <125>: but God <2316> was

with

him,

 10  And delivered <1807> him out of all <3956> his afflictions

<2347>, and gave <1325> him favour <5485> and wisdom <4678> in

the

sight <1726> of Pharaoh <5328> king <935> of Egypt <125>; and he

made <2525> him governor <2233> over <1909> Egypt <125> and all

<3650> his house <3624>.

 11  Now <1161> there came <2064> a dearth <3042> over <1909> all

<3650> the land <1093> of Egypt <125> and Chanaan <5477>, and

great

<3173> affliction <2347>: and our fathers <3962> found <2147> no

<3756> sustenance <5527>.

 12  But when Jacob <2384> heard <191> that there was corn

<4621> in

Egypt <125>, he sent <1821> out our fathers <3962> first <4412>.

 13  And at <1722> the second <1208> [time] Joseph <2501> was

made

<319> known <319> to his brethren <80>; and Joseph's <2501>

kindred

<1085> was made <1096> known <5318> unto Pharaoh <5328>.

 14  Then <1161> sent <649> Joseph <2501>, and called <3333> his

father <3962> Jacob <2384> to [him], and all <3956> his kindred

<4772>, threescore <1440> and fifteen <4002> souls <5590>.

 15  So <1161> Jacob <2384> went <2597> down <2597> into <1519>

Egypt <125>, and died <5053>, he, and our fathers <3962>,

 16  And were carried <3346> over <3346> into <1519> Sychem

<4966>,

and laid <5087> in the sepulchre <3418> that Abraham <11> bought

<5608> for a sum <5092> of money <694> of the sons <5207> of

Emmor

<1697> [the father] of Sychem <4966>.

 17. But when <2531> the time <5550> of the promise <1860> drew

nigh

<1448>, which <3739> God <2316> had sworn <3660> to Abraham <11>,

the people <2992> grew <837> and multiplied <4129> in Egypt

<125>,

 18  Till <3757> another <2087> king <935> arose <450>, which

<3739>

knew <1492> not Joseph <2501>.

 19  The same <3778> dealt <2686> subtilly <2686> with our

kindred

<1085>, and evil <2559> entreated <2559> our fathers <3962>, so

that

they cast <1570> out their young <1025> children <1025>, to the

end

<1519> they might not live <2225>.

 20  In which <3739> time <2540> Moses <3475> was born <1080>,

and

was exceeding <2316> fair <791>, and nourished <396> up in his

father's <3962> house <3624> three <5140> months <3376>:

 21  And when he was cast <1620> out, Pharaoh's <5328> daughter

<2364> took <337> him up, and nourished <397> him for her own

<1438>

son <5207>.

 22  And Moses <3475> was learned <3811> in all <3956> the wisdom

<4678> of the Egyptians <124>, and was mighty <1415> in words

<3056>

and in deeds <2041>.

 23  And when <5613> he was full <4137> forty <5063> years <5063>

old <5550>, it came <305> into <1909> his heart <2588> to visit

<1980> his brethren <80> the children <5207> of Israel <2474>.

 24  And seeing <1492> one <5100> [of them] suffer wrong <91>, he

defended <292> [him], and avenged <1557> him that was oppressed

<2669>, and smote <3960> the Egyptian <124>:

 25  For he supposed <3543> his brethren <80> would have

understood

<4920> how that God <2316> by his hand <5495> would deliver

<1325>

them: but they understood <4920> not.

 26  And the next <1966> day <2250> he shewed <3700> himself unto

them as they strove <3164>, and would have set <4900> them at

<1519>

one <1515> again <1515>, saying <2036>, Sirs <435>, ye are

brethren

<80>; why <2444> do <91> ye wrong <91> one <240> to another

<240>?

 27  But he that did <91> his neighbour <4139> wrong <91> thrust

<683> him away <683>, saying <2036>, Who <5101> made <2525> thee

a

ruler <758> and a judge <1348> over <1909> us?

 28  Wilt <2309> thou kill <337> me, as thou diddest <337> the

Egyptian <124> yesterday <5504>?

 29  Then <1161> fled <5343> Moses <3475> at <1722> this <5129>

saying <3056>, and was a stranger <3941> in the land <1093> of

Madian <3099>, where <3757> he begat <1080> two <1417> sons

<5207>.

 30. And when forty <5062> years <2094> were expired <4137>,

there

appeared <3700> to him in the wilderness <2048> of mount <3735>

Sina

<4614> an angel <32> of the Lord <2962> in a flame <5395> of fire

<4442> in a bush <942>.

 31  When Moses <3475> saw <1492> [it], he wondered <2296> at the

sight <3705>: and as he drew <4334> near <4334> to behold <2657>

[it], the voice <5456> of the Lord <2962> came <1096> unto him,

 32  [Saying], I [am] the God <2316> of thy fathers <3962>, the

God

<2316> of Abraham <11>, and the God <2316> of Isaac <2464>, and

the

God <2316> of Jacob <2384>. Then <1161> Moses <3475> trembled

<1096>, and durst <5111> not behold <2657>.

 33  Then <1161> said <2036> the Lord <2962> to him, Put <3089>

off

<3089> thy shoes <5266> from thy feet <4228>: for the place

<5117>

where <3739> thou standest <2476> is holy <40> ground <1093>.

 34  I have seen <1492>, I have seen <1492> the affliction

<2561> of

my people <2992> which <3588> is in Egypt <125>, and I have heard

<191> their groaning <4726>, and am come <2597> down <2597> to

deliver <1807> them. And now <3568> come <1204>, I will send

<649>

thee into <1519> Egypt <125>.

 35  This <5126> Moses <3475> whom <3739> they refused <720>,

saying

<2036>, Who <5101> made <2525> thee a ruler <758> and a judge

<1348>? the same <5126> did God <2316> send <649> [to be] a ruler

<758> and a deliverer <3086> by the hand <5495> of the angel <32>

which <3588> appeared <3700> to him in the bush <942>.

 36  He brought <1806> them out, after that he had shewed <4160>

wonders <5059> and signs <4591> in the land <1093> of Egypt

<125>,

and in the Red <2281> sea <2281>, and in the wilderness <2048>

forty

<5062> years <2094>.

 37  This <3778> is that Moses <3475>, which <3588> said <2036>

unto

the children <5207> of Israel <2474>, A prophet <4396> shall the

Lord <2962> your <5216> God <2316> raise <450> up unto you of

your

<5216> brethren <80>, like <5613> unto me; him shall ye hear

<191>.

 38  This <3778> is he, that was in the church <1577> in the

wilderness <2048> with the angel <32> which <3588> spake <2980>

to

him in the mount <3735> Sina <4614>, and [with] our fathers

<3962>:

who <3739> received <1209> the lively <2198> oracles <3051> to

give

<1325> unto us:

 39  To whom <3739> our fathers <3962> would <2309> not obey

<1036>,

but thrust <683> [him] from them, and in their hearts <2588>

turned

<4762> back <4762> again <4762> into <1519> Egypt <125>,

 40  Saying <2036> unto Aaron <2>, Make <4160> us gods <2316> to

go

<4313> before <4313> us: for [as for] this <3778> Moses <3475>,

which <3739> brought <1806> us out of the land <1093> of Egypt

<125>, we wot <1492> not what <5101> is become <1096> of him.

 41  And they made <3447> a calf <3447> in those <1565> days

<2250>,

and offered <321> sacrifice <2378> unto the idol <1497>, and

rejoiced <2165> in the works <2041> of their own hands <5495>.

 42. Then <1161> God <2316> turned <4762>, and gave <3860> them

up

to worship <3000> the host <4756> of heaven <3772>; as it is

written

<1125> in the book <976> of the prophets <4396>, O ye house

<3624>

of Israel <2474>, have ye offered <4374> to me slain <4968>

beasts

<4968> and sacrifices <2378> [by the space of] forty <5062> years

<2094> in the wilderness <2048>?

 43  Yea <2532>, ye took <353> up the tabernacle <4633> of Moloch

<3434>, and the star <798> of your <5216> god <2316> Remphan

<4481>,

figures <5179> which <3739> ye made <4160> to worship <4352>

them:

and I will carry <3351> you away <3351> beyond <1900> Babylon

<897>.

 44  Our fathers <3962> had <1510> the tabernacle <4633> of

witness

<3142> in the wilderness <2048>, as he had appointed <1299>,

speaking <2980> unto Moses <3475>, that he should make <4160> it

according <2596> to the fashion <5179> that he had seen <3708>.

 45  Which <3739> also <2532> our fathers <3962> that came <1237>

after <3326> brought <1521> in with Jesus <2424> into <1722> the

possession <2697> of the Gentiles <1484>, whom <3739> God <2316>

drave <1856> out before <575> the face <4383> of our fathers

<3962>,

unto the days <2250> of David <1138>;

 46  Who <3739> found <2147> favour <5485> before <1799> God

<2316>,

and desired <154> to find <2147> a tabernacle <4638> for the God

<2316> of Jacob <2384>.

 47  But Solomon <4672> built <3618> him an house <3624>.

 48  Howbeit <235> the most <5310> High <5310> dwelleth <2730>

not

in temples <3485> made <5499> with hands <5499>; as saith <3004>

the

prophet <4396>,

 49  Heaven <3772> [is] my throne <2362>, and earth <1093> [is]

my

footstool <5286>: what <4169> house <3624> will ye build <3618>

me?

saith <3004> the Lord <2962>: or <2228> what <5101> [is] the

place

<5117> of my rest <2663>?

 50  Hath not my hand <5495> made <4160> all <3956> these <5023>

things?

 51. Ye stiffnecked <4644> and uncircumcised <564> in heart

<2588>

and ears <3775>, ye do always <104> resist <496> the Holy <40>

Ghost

<4151>: as your <5216> fathers <3962> [did], so <2532> [do] ye.

 52  Which <5101> of the prophets <4396> have not your <5216>

fathers <3962> persecuted <1377>? and they have slain <615> them

which <3588> shewed <4293> before <4293> of the coming <1660> of

the

Just <1342> One; of whom <3739> ye have been <1096> now <3568>

the

betrayers <4273> and murderers <5406>:

 53  Who <3748> have received <2983> the law <3551> by the

disposition <1296> of angels <32>, and have not kept <5442> [it].

 54. When they heard <191> these <5023> things, they were cut

<1282>

to the heart <2588>, and they gnashed <1031> on <1909> him with

[their] teeth <3599>.

 55  But he, being <5225> full <4134> of the Holy <40> Ghost

<4151>,

looked <816> up stedfastly <816> into <1519> heaven <3772>, and

saw

<1492> the glory <1391> of God <2316>, and Jesus <2424> standing

<2476> on <1537> the right <1188> hand of God <2316>,

 56  And said <2036>, Behold <2400>, I see <2334> the heavens

<3772>

opened <455>, and the Son <5207> of man <444> standing <2476> on

<1537> the right <1188> hand of God <2316>.

 57  Then <1161> they cried <2896> out with a loud <3173> voice

<5456>, and stopped <4912> their ears <3775>, and ran <3729> upon

him with one <3661> accord <3661>,

 58  And cast <1544> [him] out of the city <4172>, and stoned

<3036>

[him]: and the witnesses <3144> laid <659> down their clothes

<2440>

at <3844> a young <3494> man's <3494> feet <4228>, whose name

<2564>

was Saul <4569>.

 59  And they stoned <3036> Stephen <4736>, calling <1941> upon

[God], and saying <3007>, Lord <2962> Jesus <2424>, receive

<1209>

my spirit <4151>.

 60  And he kneeled <1119> down, and cried <2896> with a loud

<3173>

voice <5456>, Lord <2962>, lay <2476> not this <5026> sin <266>

to

their charge <2476>. And when he had said <2036> this <5124>, he

fell asleep <2837>.

Acts   8

 1. And Saul <4569> was consenting <4909> unto his death <336>.

And

at <1722> that time <2250> there was a great <3173> persecution

<1375> against <1909> the church <1577> which <3588> was at

<1722>

Jerusalem <2414>; and they were all <3956> scattered <1289>

abroad

<1289> throughout <2596> the regions <5561> of Judaea <2449> and

Samaria <4540>, except <4133> the apostles <652>.

 2  And devout <2126> men <435> carried <4792> Stephen <4736> [to

his burial], and made <4160> great <3173> lamentation <2870> over

<1909> him.

 3  As for Saul <4569>, he made havock <3075> of the church

<1577>,

entering <1531> into <1531> every <2596> house <3624>, and haling

<4951> men <435> and women <1135> committed <3860> [them] to

prison

<5438>.

 4. Therefore <3767> they that were scattered <1289> abroad

<1289>

went <1330> every <1330> where <1330> preaching <2097> the word

<3056>.

 5  Then <1161> Philip <5376> went <2718> down <2718> to the city

<4172> of Samaria <4540>, and preached <2784> Christ <5547> unto

them.

 6  And the people <3793> with one <3661> accord <3661> gave

<4337>

heed <4337> unto those <3588> things which Philip <5376> spake

<3004>, hearing <191> and seeing <991> the miracles <4592> which

he

did <4160>.

 7  For unclean <169> spirits <4151>, crying <994> with loud

<3173>

voice <5456>, came <1831> out of many <4183> that were possessed

<2192> [with them]: and many <4183> taken with palsies <3886>,

and

that were lame <5560>, were healed <2323>.

 8  And there was great <3173> joy <5479> in that city <4172>.

 9  But there was a certain <5100> man <435>, called <3686> Simon

<4613>, which beforetime <4391> in the same city <4172> used

<3096>

sorcery <3096>, and bewitched <1839> the people <1484> of Samaria

<4540>, giving <3004> out that himself <1448> was some <5100>

great

<3173> one:

 10  To whom <3739> they all <3956> gave <4337> heed <4337>, from

the least <3398> to the greatest <3173>, saying <3007>, This

<3778>

man is the great <3173> power <1411> of God <2316>.

 11  And to him they had regard <4337>, because <1223> that of

long

<2425> time <5550> he had bewitched <1839> them with sorceries

<3095>.

 12  But when <3753> they believed <4100> Philip <5376> preaching

<2097> the things concerning <4012> the kingdom <932> of God

<2316>,

and the name <3686> of Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>, they were

baptized <907>, both <5037> men <435> and women <1135>.

 13  Then <1161> Simon <4613> himself <846> believed <4100> also

<2532>: and when he was baptized <907>, he continued <4342> with

Philip <5376>, and wondered <1839>, beholding <2334> the miracles

<1411> and signs <4591> which were done <1096>.

 14. Now <1161> when the apostles <652> which <3588> were at

<1722>

Jerusalem <2414> heard <191> that Samaria <4540> had received

<1209>

the word <3056> of God <2316>, they sent <649> unto them Peter

<4074> and John <2491>:

 15  Who <3748>, when they were come <2597> down <2597>, prayed

<4336> for them, that they might receive <2983> the Holy <40>

Ghost

<4151>:

 16  (For as yet <3768> he was fallen <1968> upon none <3762> of

them: only <3440> they were baptized <907> in the name <3686> of

the

Lord <2962> Jesus <2424>.)

 17  Then <5119> laid <2007> they [their] hands <5495> on <1909>

them, and they received <2983> the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>.

 18  And when Simon <4613> saw <2300> that through <1223> laying

<1936> on <1936> of the apostles <652>' hands <5495> the Holy

<40>

Ghost <4151> was given <1325>, he offered <4374> them money

<5536>,

 19  Saying <3007>, Give <1325> me also <2504> this <5026> power

<1849>, that on <2007> whomsoever <302> I lay <2007> hands

<5495>,

he may receive <2983> the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>.

 20  But Peter <4074> said <2036> unto him, Thy money <694>

perish

<684> with thee, because <3754> thou hast thought <3543> that the

gift <1431> of God <2316> may be purchased <2932> with money

<5536>.

 21  Thou hast <2076> neither <3756> part <3310> nor <3761> lot

<2819> in this <5129> matter <3056>: for thy heart <2588> is not

right <2117> in the sight <1799> of God <2316>.

 22  Repent <3340> therefore <3767> of this <5026> thy wickedness

<2549>, and pray <1189> God <2316>, if <1487> perhaps <686> the

thought <1963> of thine <4671> heart <2588> may be forgiven <863>

thee.

 23  For I perceive <3708> that thou art in the gall <5521> of

bitterness <4088>, and [in] the bond <4886> of iniquity <93>.

 24  Then <1161> answered <611> Simon <4613>, and said <2036>,

Pray

<1189> ye to the Lord <2962> for me, that none <3367> of these

things which <3739> ye have spoken <2046> come <1904> upon me.

 25  And they, when they had testified <1263> and preached <2980>

the word <3056> of the Lord <2962>, returned <5290> to Jerusalem

<2419>, and preached <2097> the gospel <2097> in many <4183>

villages <2968> of the Samaritans <4541>.

 26. And the angel <32> of the Lord <2962> spake <2980> unto

Philip

<5376>, saying <3007>, Arise <450>, and go <4198> toward <2596>

the

south <3314> unto the way <3598> that goeth <2597> down <2597>

from

Jerusalem <2419> unto Gaza <1048>, which <3778> is desert <2048>.

 27  And he arose <450> and went <4198>: and, behold <2400>, a

man

<435> of Ethiopia <128>, an eunuch <2135> of great authority

<1413>

under Candace <2582> queen <938> of the Ethiopians <128>, who

<3739>

had the charge <1909> of all <3956> her treasure <1047>, and had

come <2064> to Jerusalem <2419> for to worship <4352>,

 28  Was returning <5290>, and sitting <2521> in his chariot

<716>

read <314> Esaias <2268> the prophet <4396>.

 29  Then <1161> the Spirit <4151> said <2036> unto Philip

<5376>,

Go <4334> near <4334>, and join <2853> thyself to this <5129>

chariot <716>.

 30  And Philip <5376> ran <4370> thither <4370> to [him], and

heard

<191> him read <314> the prophet <4396> Esaias <2268>, and said

<2036>, Understandest <1097> thou what <3739> thou readest <314>?

 31  And he said <2036>, How <4459> can <1410> I, except <3362>

some

<5100> man should guide <3594> me? And he desired <3870> Philip

<5376> that he would come <305> up and sit <2523> with him.

 32  The place <4042> of the scripture <1124> which he read <314>

was this <3778>, He was led <71> as a sheep <4263> to the

slaughter

<4967>; and like <5613> a lamb <286> dumb <880> before <1726> his

shearer <2751>, so <3779> opened <455> he not his mouth <4750>:

 33  In his humiliation <5014> his judgment <2920> was taken

<142>

away: and who <5101> shall declare <1334> his generation <1074>?

for

his life <2222> is taken <142> from the earth <1093>.

 34  And the eunuch <2135> answered <611> Philip <5376>, and said

<2036>, I pray <1189> thee, of whom <5101> speaketh <3004> the

prophet <4396> this <5124>? of himself <1438>, or <2228> of some

<5100> other <2087> man?

 35  Then <1161> Philip <5376> opened <455> his mouth <4750>, and

began <756> at <575> the same <5026> scripture <1124>, and

preached

<2097> unto him Jesus <2424>.

 36  And as they went <4198> on <2596> [their] way <3598>, they

came

<2064> unto a certain <5100> water <5204>: and the eunuch <2135>

said <5346>, See <2400>, [here is] water <5204>; what <5101> doth

hinder <2967> me to be baptized <907>?

 37  And Philip <5376> said <2036>, If <1487> thou believest

<4100>

with all <3650> thine <3588> heart <2588>, thou mayest <1832>.

And

he answered <611> and said <2036>, I believe <4100> that Jesus

<2424> Christ <5547> is the Son <5207> of God <2316>.

 38  And he commanded <2753> the chariot <716> to stand <2476>

still

<2476>: and they went <2597> down <2597> both <297> into <1519>

the

water <5204>, both <5037> Philip <5376> and the eunuch <2135>;

and

he baptized <907> him.

 39  And when <3753> they were come <305> up out of the water

<5204>, the Spirit <4151> of the Lord <2962> caught <726> away

<726>

Philip <5376>, that the eunuch <2135> saw <1492> him no <3765>

more

<3765>: and he went <4198> on his way <3598> rejoicing <5463>.

 40  But Philip <5376> was found <2147> at <1519> Azotus <108>:

and

passing <1330> through <1223> he preached <2097> in all <3956>

the

cities <4172>, till <2193> he came <2064> to Caesarea <2542>.

Acts   9

 1. And Saul <4569>, yet <2089> breathing <1709> out threatenings

<547> and slaughter <5408> against <1519> the disciples <3101> of

the Lord <2962>, went <4334> unto the high <749> priest <749>,

 2  And desired <154> of him letters <1992> to Damascus <1154> to

the synagogues <4864>, that if <1437> he found <2147> any <5100>

of

this <3588> way <3598>, whether <5037> they were men <435> or

<2532>

women <1135>, he might bring <71> them bound <1210> unto

Jerusalem

<2419>.

 3  And as he journeyed <4198>, he came <1096> near <1448>

Damascus

<1154>: and suddenly <1810> there shined <4015> round <4015>

about

<4015> him a light <5457> from heaven <3772>:

 4  And he fell <4098> to the earth <1093>, and heard <191> a

voice

<5456> saying <3007> unto him, Saul <4569>, Saul <4569>, why

<5101>

persecutest <1377> thou me?

 5  And he said <2036>, Who <5101> art <1488> thou, Lord <2962>?

And

the Lord <2962> said <2036>, I am <1510> Jesus <2424> whom <3739>

thou persecutest <1377>: [it is] hard <4642> for thee to kick

<2979>

against <4314> the pricks <2759>.

 6  And he trembling <5141> and astonished <2284> said <2036>,

Lord

<2962>, what <5101> wilt <2309> thou have me to do <4160>? And

the

Lord <2962> [said <2036>] unto him, Arise <450>, and go <1525>

into

<1519> the city <4172>, and it shall be told <2980> thee what

<5101>

thou must <1163> do <4160>.

 7  And the men <435> which <3588> journeyed <4922> with him

stood

<2476> speechless <1769>, hearing <191> a voice <5456>, but

seeing

<2334> no <3367> man <3367>.

 8  And Saul <4569> arose <1453> from the earth <1093>; and when

his

eyes <3788> were opened <455>, he saw <991> no <3762> man <3762>:

but they led <5496> him by the hand <5496>, and brought <1521>

[him]

into <1519> Damascus <1154>.

 9  And he was three <5140> days <2250> without <3361> sight

<991>,

and neither <3756> did eat <5315> nor <3761> drink <4095>.

 10. And there was a certain <5100> disciple <3101> at <1722>

Damascus <1154>, named <3686> Ananias <367>; and to him said

<2036>

the Lord <2962> in a vision <3705>, Ananias <367>. And he said

<2036>, Behold <2400>, I [am here], Lord <2962>.

 11  And the Lord <2962> [said] unto him, Arise <450>, and go

<4198>

into <1909> the street <4505> which <3588> is called <2564>

Straight

<2117>, and enquire <2212> in the house <3614> of Judas <2455>

for

[one] called <3686> Saul <4569>, of Tarsus <5018>: for, behold

<2400>, he prayeth <4336>,

 12  And hath seen <1492> in a vision <3705> a man <435> named

<3686> Ananias <367> coming <1525> in, and putting <2007> [his]

hand

<5495> on <2007> him, that he might receive <308> his sight

<308>.

 13  Then <1161> Ananias <367> answered <611>, Lord <2962>, I

have

heard <191> by many <4183> of this <5127> man <435>, how <3745>

much

<3745> evil <2556> he hath done <4160> to thy saints <40> at

<1722>

Jerusalem <2419>:

 14  And here <5602> he hath <2192> authority <1849> from the

chief

<749> priests <749> to bind <1210> all <3956> that call <1941> on

thy name <3686>.

 15  But the Lord <2962> said <2036> unto him, Go <4198> thy way:

for he is a chosen <1589> vessel <4632> unto me, to bear <941> my

name <3686> before <1799> the Gentiles <1484>, and kings <935>,

and

the children <5207> of Israel <2474>:

 16  For I will shew <5263> him how <3745> great <3745> things he

must <1163> suffer <3958> for my name's <3686> sake.

 17  And Ananias <367> went <565> his way, and entered <1525>

into

<1519> the house <3614>; and putting <2007> his hands <5495> on

<1909> him said <2036>, Brother <80> Saul <4569>, the Lord

<2962>,

[even] Jesus <2424>, that appeared <3700> unto thee in the way

<3598> as thou camest <2064>, hath sent <649> me, that thou

mightest

receive <308> thy sight <308>, and be filled <4130> with the Holy

<40> Ghost <4151>.

 18  And immediately <2112> there fell <634> from his eyes

<3788> as

it had been scales <3013>: and he received <308> sight <308>

forthwith <3916>, and arose <450>, and was baptized <907>.

 19  And when he had received <2983> meat <5160>, he was

strengthened <1765>. Then <1161> was Saul <4569> certain <5100>

days

<2250> with the disciples <3101> which were at <1722> Damascus

<1154>.

 20  And straightway <2112> he preached <2784> Christ <5547> in

the

synagogues <4864>, that he is the Son <5207> of God <2316>.

 21  But all <3956> that heard <191> [him] were amazed <1839>,

and

said <3004>; Is not this <3778> he that destroyed <4199> them

which

<3588> called <1941> on <1941> this <5124> name <3686> in

Jerusalem

<2419>, and came <2064> hither <5602> for that intent, that he

might

bring <71> them bound <1210> unto the chief <749> priests <749>?

 22  But Saul <4569> increased <1743> the more <3123> in strength

<1743>, and confounded <4797> the Jews <2453> which <3588> dwelt

<2730> at <1722> Damascus <1154>, proving <4822> that this

<3778> is

very <846> Christ <5547>.

 23. And after <5613> that many <2425> days <2250> were fulfilled

<4137>, the Jews <2453> took <4823> counsel <4823> to kill <337>

him:

 24  But their laying <1917> await <1917> was known <1097> of

Saul

<4569>. And they watched <3906> the gates <4439> day <2250> and

night <3571> to kill <337> him.

 25  Then <1161> the disciples <3101> took <2983> him by night

<3571>, and let <2524> [him] down <2524> by the wall <5038> in a

basket <4711>.

 26  And when Saul <4569> was come <3854> to Jerusalem <2419>, he

assayed <3987> to join <2853> himself to the disciples <3101>:

but

they were all <3956> afraid <5399> of him, and believed <4100>

not

that he was a disciple <3101>.

 27  But Barnabas <921> took <1949> him, and brought <71> [him]

to

the apostles <652>, and declared <1334> unto them how <4459> he

had

seen <1492> the Lord <2962> in the way <3598>, and that he had

spoken <2980> to him, and how <4459> he had preached <3954>

boldly

<3955> at <1722> Damascus <1154> in the name <3686> of Jesus

<2424>.

 28  And he was with them coming <1531> in and going <1607> out

at

<1722> Jerusalem <2419>.

 29  And he spake <2980> boldly <3955> in the name <3686> of the

Lord <2962> Jesus <2424>, and disputed <4802> against <4314> the

Grecians <1675>: but they went <2021> about <2021> to slay <337>

him.

 30  [Which] when the brethren <80> knew <1921>, they brought

<2609>

him down <2609> to Caesarea <2542>, and sent <1821> him forth

<1821>

to Tarsus <5019>.

 31  Then <3767> had <2192> the churches <1577> rest <1515>

throughout <2596> all <3650> Judaea <2449> and Galilee <1056> and

Samaria <4540>, and were edified <3618>; and walking <4198> in

the

fear <5401> of the Lord <2962>, and in the comfort <3874> of the

Holy <40> Ghost <4151>, were multiplied <4129>.

 32. And it came <1096> to pass <1330>, as Peter <4074> passed

<1330> throughout <1223> all <3956> [quarters], he came <2718>

down

<2718> also <2532> to the saints <40> which <3588> dwelt <2730>

at

Lydda <3069>.

 33  And there <1563> he found <2147> a certain <5100> man <444>

named <3686> Aeneas <132>, which had kept <2621> his bed <2895>

eight <3638> years <2094>, and was sick <3885> of the palsy

<3886>.

 34  And Peter <4074> said <2036> unto him, Aeneas <132>, Jesus

<2424> Christ <5547> maketh <2390> thee whole <2390>: arise

<450>,

and make <4766> thy bed <4766>. And he arose <450> immediately

<2112>.

 35  And all <3956> that dwelt <2730> at Lydda <3069> and Saron

<4565> saw <1492> him, and turned <1994> to the Lord <2962>.

 36. Now <1161> there was at <1722> Joppa <2445> a certain <5100>

disciple <3102> named <3686> Tabitha <5000>, which <3739> by

interpretation <1329> is called <3004> Dorcas <1393>: this <3778>

woman was full <4134> of good <18> works <2041> and almsdeeds

<1654>

which <3739> she did <4160>.

 37  And it came <1096> to pass in those <1565> days <2250>, that

she was sick <770>, and died <599>: whom when they had washed

<3068>, they laid <5087> [her] in an upper <5253> chamber <5253>.

 38  And forasmuch <5607> as Lydda <3069> was nigh <1451> to

Joppa

<2445>, and the disciples <3101> had heard <191> that Peter

<4074>

was there <846>, they sent <649> unto him two <1417> men <435>,

desiring <3870> [him] that he would not delay <3635> to come

<1330>

to them.

 39  Then <1161> Peter <4074> arose <450> and went <4905> with

them.

When he was come <3854>, they brought <321> him into <1519> the

upper <5253> chamber <5253>: and all <3956> the widows <5503>

stood

<3936> by him weeping <2799>, and shewing <1925> the coats <5509>

and garments <2440> which <3745> Dorcas <1393> made <4160>, while

she was with them.

 40  But Peter <4074> put <1544> them all <3956> forth <1854>,

and

kneeled <1119> down, and prayed <4336>; and turning <1994> [him]

to

the body <4983> said <2036>, Tabitha <5000>, arise <450>. And she

opened <455> her eyes <3788>: and when she saw <1492> Peter

<4074>,

she sat <339> up.

 41  And he gave <1325> her [his] hand <5495>, and lifted <450>

her

up, and when he had called <5455> the saints <40> and widows

<5503>,

presented <3936> her alive <2198>.

 42  And it was known <1110> throughout <2596> all <3650> Joppa

<2445>; and many <4183> believed <4100> in the Lord <2962>.

 43  And it came <1096> to pass, that he tarried <3306> many

<2425>

days <2250> in Joppa <2445> with one <5100> Simon <4613> a tanner

<1038>.

Acts  10

 1. There was a certain <5100> man <435> in Caesarea <2542>

called

<3686> Cornelius <2883>, a centurion <1543> of the band <4686>

called <2564> the Italian <2483> [band <4686>],

 2  [A] devout <2152> [man], and one that feared <5399> God

<2316>

with all <3956> his house <3624>, which gave <4160> much <4183>

alms

<1654> to the people <2992>, and prayed <1189> to God <2316>

alway

<1275>.

 3  He saw <1492> in a vision <3705> evidently <5320> about

<5616>

the ninth <1766> hour <5610> of the day <2250> an angel <32> of

God

<2316> coming <1525> in to him, and saying <2036> unto him,

Cornelius <2883>.

 4  And when he looked <816> on him, he was afraid <1719>, and

said

<2036>, What <5101> is it, Lord <2962>? And he said <2036> unto

him,

Thy prayers <4335> and thine <3588> alms <1654> are come <305> up

for a memorial <3422> before <1799> God <2316>.

 5  And now <3568> send <3992> men <435> to Joppa <2445>, and

call

<3343> for [one] Simon <4613>, whose <3739> surname <1941> is

Peter

<4074>:

 6  He lodgeth <3579> with one <5100> Simon <4613> a tanner

<1038>,

whose <3739> house <3614> is by the sea <2281> side <3844>: he

shall

tell <2980> thee what <5101> thou oughtest <1163> to do <4160>.

 7  And when <5613> the angel <32> which <3588> spake <2980> unto

Cornelius <2883> was departed <565>, he called <5455> two <1417>

of

his household <3610> servants, and a devout <2152> soldier

<4757> of

them that waited <4342> on <4342> him continually <4342>;

 8  And when he had declared <1834> all <537> [these] things unto

them, he sent <649> them to Joppa <2445>.

 9. On the morrow <1887>, as they went <3596> on their journey

<3596>, and drew nigh <1448> unto the city <4172>, Peter <4074>

went

<305> up upon the housetop <1430> to pray <4336> about <4012> the

sixth <1623> hour <5610>:

 10  And he became <1096> very <4361> hungry <4361>, and would

<2309> have eaten <1089>: but while they made <3903> ready

<3903>,

he fell <1968> into <1909> a trance <1611>,

 11  And saw <2334> heaven <3772> opened <455>, and a certain

<5100>

vessel <4632> descending <2597> unto him, as it had been a great

<3173> sheet <3607> knit <1210> at the four <5064> corners <746>,

and let <2524> down <2524> to the earth <1093>:

 12  Wherein <3757> were all <3956> manner <1485> of fourfooted

<5074> beasts <5074> of the earth <1093>, and wild <2342> beasts

<2342>, and creeping <2062> things, and fowls <4071> of the air

<3772>.

 13  And there came <1096> a voice <5456> to him, Rise <450>,

Peter

<4074>; kill <2380>, and eat <5315>.

 14  But Peter <4074> said <2036>, Not so <3365>, Lord <2962>;

for I

have never <3763> eaten <5315> any <3956> thing that is common

<2839> or <2228> unclean <169>.

 15  And the voice <5456> [spake] unto him again <3825> the

second

<1208> time, What <3739> God <2316> hath cleansed <2511>, [that]

call <2840> not thou common <2840>.

 16  This <5124> was done <1096> thrice <5151>: and the vessel

<4632> was received <353> up again <3825> into <1519> heaven

<3772>.

 17  Now <1161> while <5613> Peter <4074> doubted <1280> in

himself

<1438> what <5101> this <3588> vision <3705> which <3739> he had

seen <1492> should mean <1498>, behold <2400>, the men <435>

which

<3588> were sent <649> from Cornelius <2883> had made <1239>

enquiry

<1331> for Simon's <4613> house <3614>, and stood <2186> before

<1909> the gate <4440>,

 18  And called <5455>, and asked <4441> whether <1487> Simon

<4613>, which <3588> was surnamed <1941> Peter <4074>, were

lodged

<3579> there <1759>.

 19. While Peter <4074> thought <1760> on <4012> the vision

<3705>,

the Spirit <4151> said <2036> unto him, Behold <2400>, three

<5140>

men <435> seek <2212> thee.

 20  Arise <450> therefore <235>, and get <2597> thee down

<2597>,

and go <4198> with them, doubting <1252> nothing <3367>: for I

have

sent <649> them.

 21  Then <1161> Peter <4074> went <2597> down <2597> to the men

<435> which <3588> were sent <649> unto him from Cornelius

<2883>;

and said <2036>, Behold <2400>, I am <1510> he whom <3739> ye

seek

<2212>: what <5101> [is] the cause <156> wherefore <3739> ye are

come <3918>?

 22  And they said <2036>, Cornelius <2883> the centurion <1543>,

 a

just <1342> man <435>, and one that feareth <5399> God <2316>,

and

of good <18> report <3140> among <5259> all <3650> the nation

<1484>

of the Jews <2453>, was warned <5537> from God by an holy <40>

angel

<32> to send <3343> for thee into <1519> his house <3624>, and to

hear <191> words <4487> of thee.

 23  Then <3767> called <1528> he them in, and lodged <3579>

[them].

And on the morrow <1887> Peter <4074> went <1831> away <1831>

with

them, and certain <5100> brethren <80> from Joppa <2445>

accompanied

<4905> him.

 24  And the morrow <1887> after <3326> they entered <1525> into

<1519> Caesarea <2542>. And Cornelius <2883> waited <4328> for

them,

and had called <4779> together <4779> his kinsmen <4773> and near

<316> friends <5384>.

 25  And as Peter <4074> was coming <1525> in, Cornelius <2883>

met

<4876> him, and fell <4098> down at <1909> his feet <4228>, and

worshipped <4352> [him].

 26  But Peter <4074> took <1453> him up, saying <3004>, Stand

<450>

up; I myself also <2504> am <1510> a man <444>.

 27  And as he talked <4926> with him, he went <1525> in, and

found

<2147> many <4183> that were come <4905> together <4905>.

 28  And he said <5346> unto them, Ye know <1987> how <5613>

that it

is an unlawful <111> thing for a man <435> that is a Jew <2453>

to

keep <2853> company <2853>, or <2228> come <4334> unto one of

another <246> nation <246>; but God <2316> hath shewed <1166> me

that I should not call <3004> any <3367> man <444> common <2839>

or

<2228> unclean <169>.

 29  Therefore <1352> came <2064> I [unto you] without <369>

gainsaying <369>, as soon as I was sent <3343> for: I ask <4441>

therefore <3767> for what <5101> intent <3056> ye have sent

<3343>

for me?

 30  And Cornelius <2883> said <5346>, Four <5067> days <2250>

ago

<575> I was fasting <3522> until <3360> this <5026> hour <5610>;

and

at the ninth <1766> hour <5610> I prayed <4336> in my house

<3624>,

and, behold <2400>, a man <435> stood <2476> before <1799> me in

bright <2986> clothing <2066>,

 31  And said <5346>, Cornelius <2883>, thy prayer <4335> is

heard

<1522>, and thine <4675> alms <1654> are had in remembrance

<3415>

in the sight <1799> of God <2316>.

 32  Send <3992> therefore <3767> to Joppa <2445>, and call

<3333>

hither <3333> Simon <4613>, whose <3739> surname <1941> is Peter

<4074>; he is lodged <3579> in the house <3614> of [one] Simon

<4613> a tanner <1038> by the sea <2281> side <3844>: who <3739>,

when he cometh <3854>, shall speak <2980> unto thee.

 33  Immediately <1824> therefore <3767> I sent <3992> to thee;

and

thou hast well <2573> done <4160> that thou art come <3854>. Now

<3568> therefore <3767> are we all <3956> here <3918> present

<3918>

before <1799> God <2316>, to hear <191> all <3956> things that

are

commanded <4367> thee of God <2316>.

 34. Then <1161> Peter <4074> opened <455> [his] mouth <4750>,

and

said <2036>, Of a truth <225> I perceive <2638> that God <2316>

is

no <3756> respecter <4381> of persons <4381>:

 35  But in every <3956> nation <1484> he that feareth <5399>

him,

and worketh <2038> righteousness <1343>, is accepted <1184> with

him.

 36  The word <3056> which <3739> [God] sent <649> unto the

children

<5207> of Israel <2474>, preaching <2097> peace <1515> by Jesus

<2424> Christ <5547>: (he is Lord <2962> of all <3956>:)

 37  That word <4487>, [I say], ye know <1492>, which was

published

<1096> throughout <2596> all <3650> Judaea <2449>, and began

<756>

from Galilee <1056>, after <3326> the baptism <908> which <3739>

John <2491> preached <2784>;

 38  How <5613> God <2316> anointed <5548> Jesus <2424> of

Nazareth

<3478> with the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> and with power <1411>: who

<3739> went <1330> about <1330> doing <2109> good <2109>, and

healing <2390> all <3956> that were oppressed <2616> of the devil

<1228>; for God <2316> was with him.

 39  And we are witnesses <3144> of all <3956> things which

<3739>

he did <4160> both <5037> in the land <5561> of the Jews <2453>,

and

in Jerusalem <2419>; whom <3739> they slew <337> and hanged

<2910>

on <1909> a tree <3586>:

 40  Him God <2316> raised <1453> up the third <5154> day <2250>,

and shewed <1096> him openly <1717>;

 41  Not to all <3956> the people <2992>, but unto witnesses

<3144>

chosen <4401> before <4401> of God <2316>, [even] to us, who

<3748>

did eat <4906> and drink <4844> with him after <3326> he rose

<450>

from the dead <3498>.

 42  And he commanded <3853> us to preach <2784> unto the people

<2992>, and to testify <1263> that it is he which <3588> was

ordained <3724> of God <2316> [to be] the Judge <2923> of quick

<2198> and dead <3498>.

 43  To him give all <3956> the prophets <4396> witness <3140>,

that

through <1223> his name <3686> whosoever <3588> believeth <4100>

in

him shall receive <2983> remission <859> of sins <266>.

 44. While Peter <4074> yet <2089> spake <2980> these <5023>

words

<4487>, the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> fell <1968> on <1909> all

<3956>

them which heard <191> the word <3056>.

 45  And they of the circumcision <4061> which believed <4103>

were

astonished <1839>, as many <3745> as came <4905> with Peter

<4074>,

because <3754> that on <1909> the Gentiles <1484> also <2532> was

poured <1632> out the gift <1431> of the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>.

 46  For they heard <191> them speak <2980> with tongues <1100>,

and

magnify <3170> God <2316>. Then <5119> answered <611> Peter

<4074>,

 47  Can <1410> any <5100> man <5100> forbid <2967> water <5204>,

that these <5128> should not be baptized <907>, which <3748> have

received <2983> the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> as well <2532> as we?

 48  And he commanded <4367> them to be baptized <907> in the

name

<3686> of the Lord <2962>. Then <5119> prayed <2065> they him to

tarry <1961> certain <5100> days <2250>.

Acts  11

 1. And the apostles <652> and brethren <80> that were in Judaea

<2449> heard <191> that the Gentiles <1484> had also <2532>

received

<1209> the word <3056> of God <2316>.

 2  And when <3753> Peter <4074> was come <305> up to Jerusalem

<2414>, they that were of the circumcision <4061> contended

<1252>

with him,

 3  Saying <3004>, Thou wentest <1525> in to men <435>

uncircumcised

<2192>, and didst eat <4906> with them.

 4  But Peter <4074> rehearsed <756> [the matter] from the

beginning

<756>, and expounded <1620> [it] by order <2517> unto them,

saying

<3004>,

 5  I was in the city <4172> of Joppa <2445> praying <4336>: and

in

a trance <1611> I saw <1492> a vision <3705>, A certain <5100>

vessel <4632> descend <2597>, as it had been a great <3173> sheet

<3607>, let <2524> down <2524> from heaven <3772> by four <5064>

corners <746>; and it came <2064> even <891> to me:

 6  Upon the which <3739> when I had fastened <816> mine eyes, I

considered <2657>, and saw <1492> fourfooted <5074> beasts

<5074> of

the earth <1093>, and wild <2342> beasts <2342>, and creeping

<2062>

things, and fowls <4071> of the air <3772>.

 7  And I heard <191> a voice <5456> saying <3004> unto me, Arise

<450>, Peter <4074>; slay <2380> and eat <5315>.

 8  But I said <2036>, Not so <3365>, Lord <2962>: for nothing

<3763> common <2839> or <2228> unclean <169> hath at <3763> any

<3763> time entered <1525> into <1519> my mouth <4750>.

 9  But the voice <5456> answered <611> me again <1208> from

heaven

<3772>, What <3739> God <2316> hath cleansed <2511>, [that] call

<2840> not thou common <2839>.

 10  And this <5124> was done <1096> three <5151> times <5151>:

and

all <537> were drawn <385> up again <3825> into <1519> heaven

<3772>.

 11  And, behold <2400>, immediately <1824> there were three

<5140>

men <435> already come <2186> unto the house <3614> where <3739>

I

was, sent <649> from Caesarea <2542> unto me.

 12  And the Spirit <4151> bade <2036> me go <4905> with them,

nothing <3367> doubting <1252>. Moreover <1161> these <3778> six

<1803> brethren <80> accompanied <4862> me, and we entered <1525>

into <1519> the man's <435> house <3624>:

 13  And he shewed <518> us how <4459> he had seen <1492> an

angel

<32> in his house <3624>, which stood <2476> and said <2036> unto

him, Send <649> men <435> to Joppa <2445>, and call <3343> for

Simon

<4613>, whose <3588> surname <1941> is Peter <4074>;

 14  Who <3739> shall tell <2980> thee words <4487>, whereby

<3739>

thou and all <3956> thy house <3624> shall be saved <4982>.

 15  And as I began <756> to speak <2980>, the Holy <40> Ghost

<4151> fell <1968> on <1909> them, as on <1909> us at <1722> the

beginning <746>.

 16  Then <1161> remembered <3415> I the word <4487> of the Lord

<2962>, how <5613> that he said <3004>, John <2491> indeed <3303>

baptized <907> with water <5204>; but ye shall be baptized <907>

with the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>.

 17  Forasmuch <1487> then <3767> as God <2316> gave <1325> them

the

like <2470> gift <1431> as [he did] unto us, who believed <4100>

on

<1909> the Lord <2962> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>; what <5101>

was

I, that I could <1415> withstand <2967> God <2316>?

 18  When they heard <191> these <5023> things, they held <2270>

their peace <2270>, and glorified <1392> God <2316>, saying

<3004>,

Then <686> hath God <2316> also <2532> to the Gentiles <1484>

granted <1325> repentance <3341> unto life <2222>.

 19. Now <3767> they which were scattered <1289> abroad <1289>

upon

the persecution <2347> that arose <1096> about <1909> Stephen

<4736>

travelled <1330> as far <2193> as Phenice <5403>, and Cyprus

<2954>,

and Antioch <490>, preaching <2980> the word <3056> to none

<3367>

but unto the Jews <2453> only <3440>.

 20  And some <5100> of them were men <435> of Cyprus <2954> and

Cyrene <2957>, which <3748>, when they were come <1525> to

Antioch

<490>, spake <2980> unto the Grecians <1675>, preaching <2097>

the

Lord <2962> Jesus <2424>.

 21  And the hand <5495> of the Lord <2962> was with them: and a

great <4183> number <706> believed <4100>, and turned <1994> unto

the Lord <2962>.

 22  Then <1161> tidings <3056> of these <846> things came <191>

unto the ears <3775> of the church <1577> which <3588> was in

Jerusalem <2414>: and they sent <1821> forth <1821> Barnabas

<921>,

that he should go <1330> as far <2193> as Antioch <490>.

 23  Who <3739>, when he came <3854>, and had seen <1492> the

grace

<5485> of God <2316>, was glad <5463>, and exhorted <3870> them

all

<3956>, that with purpose <4286> of heart <2588> they would

cleave

<4347> unto the Lord <2962>.

 24  For he was a good <18> man <435>, and full <4134> of the

Holy

<40> Ghost <4151> and of faith <4102>: and much <2425> people

<3793>

was added <4369> unto the Lord <2962>.

 25  Then <1161> departed <1831> Barnabas <921> to Tarsus <5019>,

for to seek <327> Saul <4569>:

 26  And when he had found <2147> him, he brought <71> him unto

Antioch <490>. And it came <1096> to pass, that a whole <3650>

year

<1763> they assembled <4863> themselves with the church <1577>,

and

taught <1321> much <2425> people <3793>. And the disciples <3101>

were called <5537> Christians <5546> first <4412> in Antioch

<490>.

 27. And in these <5125> days <2250> came <2718> prophets <4396>

from Jerusalem <2414> unto Antioch <490>.

 28  And there stood <450> up one <1520> of them named <3686>

Agabus

<13>, and signified <4591> by the Spirit <4151> that there should

<3195> be great <3173> dearth <3042> throughout <1909> all <3650>

the world <3625>: which <3748> came <1096> to pass in the days

<1909> of Claudius <2804> Caesar <2541>.

 29  Then <1161> the disciples <3101>, every <1538> man <1538>

according <2531> to his ability <2141>, determined <3724> to send

<3992> relief <1248> unto the brethren <80> which dwelt <2730> in

Judaea <2449>:

 30  Which <3739> also <2532> they did <4160>, and sent <649> it

to

the elders <4245> by the hands <5495> of Barnabas <921> and Saul

<4569>.

Acts  12

 1. Now <1161> about <2596> that time <2540> Herod <2264> the

king

<935> stretched <1911> forth <1911> [his] hands <5495> to vex

<2559>

certain <5100> of the church <1577>.

 2  And he killed <337> James <2385> the brother <80> of John

<2491>

with the sword <3162>.

 3  And because he saw <1492> it pleased <701> the Jews <2453>,

he

proceeded <4369> further to take <4815> Peter <4074> also <2532>.

(Then were the days <2250> of unleavened <106> bread.)

 4  And when he had apprehended <4084> him, he put <5087> [him]

in

prison <5438>, and delivered <3860> [him] to four <5064>

quaternions

<5069> of soldiers <4757> to keep <5442> him; intending <1011>

after

<3326> Easter <3957> to bring <321> him forth <321> to the people

<2992>.

 5. Peter <4074> therefore <3767> was kept <5083> in prison

<5438>:

but prayer <4335> was made <1096> without <1618> ceasing <1618>

of

the church <1577> unto God <2316> for him.

 6  And when <3753> Herod <2264> would <3195> have brought <4254>

him forth <4254>, the same <1565> night <3571> Peter <4074> was

sleeping <2837> between <3342> two <1417> soldiers <4757>, bound

<1210> with two <1417> chains <254>: and the keepers <5441>

before

<4253> the door <2374> kept <5083> the prison <5438>.

 7  And, behold <2400>, the angel <32> of the Lord <2962> came

<2186> upon [him], and a light <5457> shined <2989> in the prison

<3612>: and he smote <3960> Peter <4074> on the side <4125>, and

raised <1453> him up, saying <3004>, Arise <450> up quickly

<5034>.

And his chains <254> fell <1601> off <1601> from [his] hands

<5495>.

 8  And the angel <32> said <2036> unto him, Gird <2224> thyself,

and bind <5265> on <5265> thy sandals <4547>. And so <3779> he

did

<4160>. And he saith <3004> unto him, Cast <4016> thy garment

<2440>

about <4016> thee, and follow <190> me.

 9  And he went <1831> out, and followed <190> him; and wist

<1492>

not that it was true <227> which <3588> was done <1096> by the

angel

<32>; but thought <1380> he saw <991> a vision <3705>.

 10  When they were past <1330> the first <4413> and the second

<1208> ward <5438>, they came <2064> unto the iron <4603> gate

<4439> that leadeth <5342> unto the city <4172>; which <3748>

opened

<455> to them of his own <848> accord <844>: and they went <1831>

out, and passed <4281> on through one <3391> street <4505>; and

forthwith <2112> the angel <32> departed <868> from him.

 11  And when Peter <4074> was come <1096> to himself <1438>, he

said <2036>, Now <3568> I know <1492> of a surety <230>, that the

Lord <2962> hath sent <1821> his angel <32>, and hath delivered

<1807> me out of the hand <5495> of Herod <2264>, and [from] all

<3956> the expectation <4329> of the people <2992> of the Jews

<2453>.

 12  And when he had considered <4894> [the thing], he came

<2064>

to the house <3614> of Mary <3137> the mother <3384> of John

<2491>,

whose <3588> surname <1941> was Mark <3138>; where <3757> many

<2425> were gathered <4863> together <4867> praying <4336>.

 13  And as Peter <4074> knocked <2925> at the door of the gate

<4440>, a damsel <3814> came <4334> to hearken <5219>, named

<3686>

Rhoda <4498>.

 14  And when she knew <1921> Peter's <4074> voice <5456>, she

opened <455> not the gate <4440> for gladness <5479>, but ran

<1532>

in, and told <518> how Peter <4074> stood <2476> before <4253>

the

gate <4440>.

 15  And they said <2036> unto her, Thou art mad <3105>. But she

constantly <1340> affirmed <1340> that it was even so <3779>.

Then

<1161> said <3004> they, It is his angel.

 16  But Peter <4074> continued <1961> knocking <2925>: and when

they had opened <455> [the door], and saw <1492> him, they were

astonished <1839>.

 17  But he, beckoning <2678> unto them with the hand <5495> to

hold

<4601> their peace <4601>, declared <1334> unto them how <4459>

the

Lord <2962> had brought <1806> him out of the prison <5438>. And

he

said <2036>, Go shew <518> these <5023> things unto James <2385>,

and to the brethren <80>. And he departed <1831>, and went <4198>

into <1519> another <2087> place <5117>.

 18  Now <1161> as soon <1096> as it was day <2250>, there was no

<3756> small <3641> stir <5017> among <1722> the soldiers <4757>,

what <686> was become <1096> of Peter <4074>.

 19  And when Herod <2264> had sought <1934> for him, and found

<2147> him not, he examined <350> the keepers <5441>, and

commanded

<2753> that [they] should be put <520> to death <520>. And he

went

<2718> down <2718> from Judaea <2449> to Caesarea <2542>, and

[there] abode <1304>.

 20. And Herod <2264> was highly <2371> displeased <2371> with

them

of Tyre <5183> and Sidon <4605>: but they came <3918> with one

<3661> accord <3661> to him, and, having made <3982> Blastus

<986>

the king's <935> chamberlain <2846> their friend <3982>, desired

<154> peace <1515>; because <1223> their country <5561> was

nourished <5142> by the king's <937> [country <5561>].

 21  And upon a set <5002> day <2250> Herod <2264>, arrayed

<1746>

in royal <937> apparel <2066>, sat <2523> upon his throne <968>,

and

made <1215> an oration <1215> unto them.

 22  And the people <1218> gave a shout <2019>, [saying, It is]

the

voice <5456> of a god <2316>, and not of a man <444>.

 23  And immediately <3916> the angel <32> of the Lord <2962>

smote

<3960> him, because <3739> he gave <1325> not God <2316> the

glory

<1391>: and he was eaten <4662> of worms <4662>, and gave up the

ghost <1634>.

 24  But the word <3056> of God <2316> grew <837> and multiplied

<4129>.

 25  And Barnabas <921> and Saul <4569> returned <5290> from

Jerusalem <2419>, when they had fulfilled <4137> [their] ministry

<1248>, and took <4838> with them John <2491>, whose <3588>

surname

<1941> was Mark <3138>.

Acts  13

 1. Now <1161> there were in the church <1577> that was at <1722>

Antioch <490> certain <5100> prophets <4396> and teachers <1320>;

 as

Barnabas <921>, and Simeon <4826> that was called <2564> Niger

<3526>, and Lucius <3066> of Cyrene <2957>, and Manaen <3127>,

which

had been brought <4939> up with Herod <2264> the tetrarch <5076>,

and Saul <4569>.

 2  As they ministered <3008> to the Lord <2962>, and fasted

<3522>,

the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> said <2036>, Separate <873> me

Barnabas

<921> and Saul <4569> for the work <2041> whereunto <3739> I have

called <4341> them.

 3  And when they had fasted <3522> and prayed <4336>, and laid

<2007> [their] hands <5495> on <2007> them, they sent <630>

[them]

away <630>.

 4. So <3767> they, being sent <1599> forth <1599> by the Holy

<40>

Ghost <4151>, departed <2718> unto Seleucia <4581>; and from

thence

<1564> they sailed <636> to Cyprus <2954>.

 5  And when they were at <1722> Salamis <4529>, they preached

<2605> the word <3056> of God <2316> in the synagogues <4864> of

the

Jews <2453>: and they had <2192> also <2532> John <2491> to

[their]

minister <5257>.

 6  And when they had gone <1330> through <1330> the isle <3520>

unto Paphos <3974>, they found <2147> a certain <5100> sorcerer

<3097>, a false <5578> prophet <5578>, a Jew <2453>, whose <3739>

name <3686> [was] Barjesus <919>:

 7  Which <3739> was with the deputy <446> of the country,

Sergius

<4588> Paulus <3972>, a prudent <4908> man <435>; who <3778>

called

<4341> for Barnabas <921> and Saul <4569>, and desired <1934> to

hear <191> the word <3056> of God <2316>.

 8  But Elymas <1681> the sorcerer <3097> (for so <3779> is his

name

<3686> by interpretation <3177>) withstood <436> them, seeking

<2212> to turn <1294> away <1294> the deputy <446> from the faith

<4102>.

 9  Then <1161> Saul <4569>, (who also <2532> [is called] Paul

<3972>,) filled <4130> with the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>, set <816>

his eyes on <1519> him,

 10  And said <2036>, O full <4134> of all <3956> subtilty <1388>

and all <3956> mischief <4468>, [thou] child <5207> of the devil

<1228>, [thou] enemy <2190> of all <3956> righteousness <1343>,

wilt

thou not cease <3973> to pervert <1294> the right <2117> ways

<3598>

of the Lord <2962>?

 11  And now <3568>, behold <2400>, the hand <5495> of the Lord

<2962> [is] upon thee, and thou shalt be blind <5185>, not seeing

<991> the sun <2246> for a season <2540>. And immediately <3916>

there fell <1968> on <1909> him a mist <887> and a darkness

<4655>;

and he went <4013> about <4013> seeking <2212> some to lead

<5497>

him by the hand <5497>.

 12  Then <5119> the deputy <446>, when he saw <1492> what <3588>

was done <1096>, believed <4100>, being astonished <1605> at

<1909>

the doctrine <1322> of the Lord <2962>.

 13  Now <1161> when Paul <3972> and his company <4012> loosed

<321>

from Paphos <3974>, they came <2064> to Perga <4011> in Pamphylia

<3828>: and John <2491> departing <672> from them returned

<5290> to

Jerusalem <2414>.

 14. But when they departed <1330> from Perga <4011>, they came

<3854> to Antioch <490> in Pisidia <4099>, and went <1525> into

<1519> the synagogue <4864> on the sabbath <4521> day <2250>, and

sat <2523> down <2523>.

 15  And after <3326> the reading <320> of the law <3551> and the

prophets <4396> the rulers <752> of the synagogue <752> sent

<649>

unto them, saying <3004>, [Ye] men <435> [and] brethren <80>, if

<1487> ye have <2076> any <5150> word <3056> of exhortation

<3874>

for the people <2992>, say <3004> on.

 16  Then <1161> Paul <3972> stood <450> up, and beckoning <2678>

with [his] hand <5495> said <2036>, Men <435> of Israel <2475>,

and

ye that fear <5399> God <2316>, give audience <191>.

 17  The God <2316> of this <5127> people <2992> of Israel <2474>

chose <1586> our fathers <3962>, and exalted <5312> the people

<2992> when <3588> they dwelt <3940> as strangers <3940> in the

land

<1093> of Egypt <125>, and with an high <5308> arm <1023> brought

<1806> he them out of it.

 18  And about <5613> the time <5550> of forty <5063> years

<5063>

suffered <5159> he their manners <5159> in the wilderness <2048>.

 19  And when he had destroyed <2507> seven <2033> nations

<1484> in

the land <1093> of Chanaan <5477>, he divided <2624> their land

<1093> to them by lot <2624>.

 20  And after <3326> that he gave <1325> [unto them] judges

<2923>

about <5613> the space of four <5071> hundred <5071> and fifty

<4004> years <2094>, until <2193> Samuel <4545> the prophet

<4396>.

 21  And afterward <2547> they desired <154> a king <935>: and

God

<2316> gave <1325> unto them Saul <4569> the son <5207> of Cis

<2797>, a man <435> of the tribe <5443> of Benjamin <958>, by the

space of forty <5062> years <2094>.

 22  And when he had removed <3179> him, he raised <1453> up unto

them David <1138> to be their king <935>; to whom <3739> also

<2532>

he gave <3140> testimony <3140>, and said <2036>, I have found

<2147> David <1138> the [son] of Jesse <2421>, a man <435> after

<2596> mine <3450> own heart <2588>, which <3739> shall fulfil

<4160> all <3956> my will <2307>.

 23  Of this <5127> man's seed <4690> hath God <2316> according

<2596> to [his] promise <1860> raised <1453> unto Israel <2474> a

Saviour <4990>, Jesus <2424>:

 24  When John <2491> had first preached <4296> before <4383> his

coming <1529> the baptism <908> of repentance <3341> to all

<3956>

the people <2992> of Israel <2474>.

 25  And as John <2491> fulfilled <4137> his course <1408>, he

said

<3004>, Whom <5101> think <5282> ye that I am <1511>? I am <1510>

not [he]. But, behold <2400>, there cometh <2064> one after

<3326>

me, whose <3739> shoes <5266> of [his] feet <4228> I am <1510>

not

worthy <514> to loose <3089>.

 26  Men <435> [and] brethren <80>, children <5207> of the stock

<1085> of Abraham <11>, and whosoever <3588> among <1722> you

feareth <5399> God <2316>, to you is the word <3056> of this

<5026>

salvation <4991> sent <649>.

 27  For they that dwell <2730> at <1722> Jerusalem <2419>, and

their rulers <758>, because they knew <50> him not, nor <2532>

yet

the voices <5456> of the prophets <4396> which <3588> are read

<314>

every <3956> sabbath <4521> day, they have fulfilled <4137>

[them]

in condemning <2919> [him].

 28  And though they found <2147> no <3367> cause <156> of death

<2288> [in him], yet desired <154> they Pilate <4091> that he

should

be slain <337>.

 29  And when <5613> they had fulfilled <5055> all <537> that was

written <1125> of him, they took <2507> [him] down <2507> from

the

tree <3586>, and laid <5087> [him] in a sepulchre <3419>.

 30  But God <2316> raised <1453> him from the dead <3498>:

 31  And he was seen <3700> many <4119> days <2250> of them which

came <4872> up with him from Galilee <1056> to Jerusalem <2419>,

who

<3748> are his witnesses <3144> unto the people <2992>.

 32  And we declare <2097> unto you glad <2097> tidings <2097>,

how

that the promise <1860> which was made <1096> unto the fathers

<3962>,

 33  God <2316> hath fulfilled <1603> the same <5026> unto us

their

children <5043>, in that he hath raised <450> up Jesus <2424>

again

<450>; as it is also <2532> written <1125> in the second <1208>

psalm <5568>, Thou art <1488> my Son <5207>, this <4594> day

<4594>

have I begotten <1080> thee.

 34  And as concerning <3754> that he raised <450> him up from

the

dead <3498>, [now] no <3371> more <2001> to return <5290> to

corruption <1312>, he said <5346> on this <3779> wise <3779>, I

will

give <1325> you the sure <4103> mercies <3741> of David <1138>.

 35  Wherefore <1352> he saith <3004> also <2532> in another

<2087>

[psalm], Thou shalt not suffer <1325> thine <4675> Holy <3741>

One

to see <1492> corruption <1312>.

 36  For David <1138>, after he had served <5256> his own <2398>

generation <1074> by the will <1012> of God <2316>, fell on sleep

<2837>, and was laid <4369> unto his fathers <3962>, and saw

<1492>

corruption <1312>:

 37  But he, whom <3739> God <2316> raised <1453> again <1453>,

saw

<1492> no <3756> corruption <1312>.

 38  Be it known <1110> unto you therefore <3767>, men <435>

[and]

brethren <80>, that through <1223> this <5127> man is preached

<2605> unto you the forgiveness <859> of sins <266>:

 39  And by him all <3956> that believe <4100> are justified

<1344>

from all <3956> things, from which <3739> ye could <1410> not be

justified <1344> by the law <3551> of Moses <3475>.

 40  Beware <991> therefore <3767>, lest <3361> that come <1904>

upon you, which is spoken <2046> of in the prophets <4396>;

 41  Behold <1492>, ye despisers <2707>, and wonder <2296>, and

perish <853>: for I work <2038> a work <2038> in your <5216> days

<2250>, a work <2041> which ye shall in no <3364> wise believe

<4100>, though <1437> a man <5100> declare <1555> it unto you.

 42. And when the Jews <2453> were gone <1826> out of the

synagogue

<4864>, the Gentiles <1484> besought <3870> that these <5023>

words

<4487> might be preached <2980> to them the next <3342> sabbath

<4521>.

 43  Now <1161> when the congregation <4864> was broken <3089>

up,

many <4183> of the Jews <2453> and religious <4576> proselytes

<4339> followed <190> Paul <3972> and Barnabas <921>: who <3748>,

speaking <4354> to them, persuaded <3982> them to continue

<1961> in

the grace <5485> of God <2316>.

 44  And the next <2064> sabbath <4521> day came <4863> almost

<4975> the whole <3956> city <4172> together <4863> to hear <191>

the word <3056> of God <2316>.

 45  But when the Jews <2453> saw <1492> the multitudes <3793>,

they

were filled <4130> with envy <2205>, and spake <483> against

<483>

those <3588> things which were spoken <3004> by Paul <3972>,

contradicting <483> and blaspheming <987>.

 46  Then <1161> Paul <3972> and Barnabas <921> waxed <3955> bold

<3955>, and said <2036>, It was necessary <316> that the word

<3056>

of God <2316> should first <4412> have been spoken <2980> to you:

but seeing <1894> ye put <683> it from you, and judge <2919>

yourselves <1438> unworthy <514> of everlasting <166> life

<2222>,

lo <2400>, we turn <4762> to the Gentiles <1484>.

 47  For so <3779> hath the Lord <2962> commanded <1781> us,

[saying], I have set <5087> thee to be a light <5457> of the

Gentiles <1484>, that thou shouldest be for salvation <4991> unto

the ends <2078> of the earth <1093>.

 48  And when the Gentiles <1484> heard <191> this, they were

glad

<5463>, and glorified <1392> the word <3056> of the Lord <2962>:

and

as many <3745> as were ordained <5021> to eternal <166> life

<2222>

believed <4100>.

 49  And the word <3056> of the Lord <2962> was published <1308>

throughout <1223> all <3650> the region <5561>.

 50  But the Jews <2453> stirred <3951> up the devout <4576> and

honourable <2158> women <1135>, and the chief <4413> men of the

city

<4172>, and raised <1892> persecution <1375> against <1909> Paul

<3972> and Barnabas <921>, and expelled <1544> them out of their

coasts <3725>.

 51  But they shook <1621> off <1621> the dust <2868> of their

feet

<4228> against <1909> them, and came <2064> unto Iconium <2430>.

 52  And the disciples <3101> were filled <4137> with joy <5479>,

and with the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>.

Acts  14

 1. And it came <1096> to pass in Iconium <2430>, that they went

<1525> both together <846> into <1519> the synagogue <4864> of

the

Jews <2453>, and so <3779> spake <2980>, that a great <4183>

multitude <4128> both <5037> of the Jews <2453> and also <2532>

of

the Greeks <1672> believed <4100>.

 2  But the unbelieving <544> Jews <2453> stirred <1892> up the

Gentiles <1484>, and made <2559> their minds <5590> evil <2559>

affected <2559> against <2596> the brethren <80>.

 3  Long <2425> time <5550> therefore <3767> abode <1304> they

speaking boldly <3955> in the Lord <2962>, which <3588> gave

<3140>

testimony <3140> unto the word <3056> of his grace <5485>, and

granted <1325> signs <4591> and wonders <5059> to be done <1096>

by

their hands <5495>.

 4  But the multitude <4128> of the city <4172> was divided

<4977>:

and part held <2258> with the Jews <2453>, and part with the

apostles <652>.

 5  And when <5613> there was an assault <3730> made <1096> both

<5037> of the Gentiles <1484>, and also of the Jews <2453> with

their rulers <758>, to use <5195> [them] despitefully <5195>,

and to

stone <3036> them,

 6  They were ware <4894> of [it], and fled <2703> unto Lystra

<3082> and Derbe <1191>, cities <4172> of Lycaonia <3071>, and

unto

the region <4066> that lieth round <4066> about <4066>:

 7  And there <1563> they preached <2097> the gospel <2097>.

 8. And there sat <2521> a certain <5100> man <435> at <1722>

Lystra

<3082>, impotent <102> in his feet <4228>, being <5225> a cripple

<5560> from his mother's <3384> womb <2836>, who <3739> never

<3763>

had walked <4043>:

 9  The same <3778> heard <191> Paul <3972> speak <2980>: who

<3739>

stedfastly <816> beholding <816> him, and perceiving <1492> that

he

had <2192> faith <4102> to be healed <4982>,

 10  Said <2036> with a loud <3173> voice <5456>, Stand <450>

upright <3717> on <1909> thy feet <4228>. And he leaped <242> and

walked <4043>.

 11  And when the people <3793> saw <1492> what <3739> Paul

<3972>

had done <4160>, they lifted <1869> up their voices <5456>,

saying

<3004> in the speech <3072> of Lycaonia <3071>, The gods <2316>

are

come <2597> down <2597> to us in the likeness <3666> of men

<444>.

 12  And they called <2564> Barnabas <921>, Jupiter <2203>; and

Paul

<3972>, Mercurius <2060>, because <1894> he was the chief <2233>

speaker <3056>.

 13  Then <1161> the priest <2409> of Jupiter <2203>, which

<3588>

was before <4253> their city <4172>, brought <5342> oxen <5022>

and

garlands <4725> unto the gates <4440>, and would <2309> have done

sacrifice <2380> with the people <3793>.

 14  [Which] when the apostles <652>, Barnabas <921> and Paul

<3972>, heard <191> [of], they rent <1284> their clothes <2440>,

and

ran <1530> in among <1519> the people <3793>, crying <2896> out,

 15  And saying <3004>, Sirs <435>, why <5101> do <4160> ye these

<5130> things? We also <2532> are men <444> of like <3663>

passions

<3663> with you, and preach <2097> unto you that ye should turn

<1994> from these <5023> vanities <3152> unto the living <2198>

God

<2316>, which <3739> made <4160> heaven <3772>, and earth <1093>,

and the sea <2281>, and all <3956> things that are therein <846>:

 16  Who <3739> in times <1074> past <3944> suffered <1439> all

<3956> nations <1484> to walk <4198> in their own <848> ways

<3598>.

 17  Nevertheless <2544> he left <863> not himself <1438> without

<267> witness <267>, in that he did <15> good <15>, and gave

<1325>

us rain <5205> from heaven <3771>, and fruitful <2593> seasons

<2540>, filling <1705> our hearts <2588> with food <5160> and

gladness <2167>.

 18  And with these <5023> sayings <3004> scarce <3433>

restrained

<2664> they the people <3793>, that they had not done sacrifice

<2380> unto them.

 19. And there came <1904> thither <1904> [certain] Jews <2453>

from

Antioch <490> and Iconium <2430>, who <2532> persuaded <3982> the

people <3793>, and, having stoned <3034> Paul <3972>, drew <4951>

[him] out of the city <4172>, supposing <3543> he had been dead

<2348>.

 20  Howbeit, as the disciples <3101> stood <2944> round <2944>

about <2944> him, he rose <450> up, and came <1525> into <1519>

the

city <4172>: and the next <1887> day <1887> he departed <1831>

with

Barnabas <921> to Derbe <1191>.

 21  And when they had preached <2097> the gospel <2097> to that

city <4172>, and had taught <3100> many <2425>, they returned

<5290>

again <5290> to Lystra <3082>, and [to] Iconium <2430>, and

Antioch

<490>,

 22  Confirming <1991> the souls <5590> of the disciples <3101>,

[and] exhorting <3870> them to continue <1696> in the faith

<4102>,

and that we must <1163> through <1223> much <4183> tribulation

<2347> enter <1525> into <1519> the kingdom <932> of God <2316>.

 23  And when they had ordained <5500> them elders <4245> in

every

<2596> church <1577>, and had prayed <4336> with fasting <3521>,

they commended <3908> them to the Lord <2962>, on <1519> whom

<3739>

they believed <4100>.

 24  And after they had passed <1330> throughout <1330> Pisidia

<4099>, they came <2064> to Pamphylia <3828>.

 25  And when they had preached <2980> the word <3056> in Perga

<4011>, they went <2597> down <2597> into <1519> Attalia <825>:

 26  And thence <1564> sailed <636> to Antioch <490>, from whence

<3606> they had been recommended <3860> to the grace <5485> of

God

<2316> for the work <2041> which <3739> they fulfilled <4137>.

 27  And when they were come <3854>, and had gathered <4863> the

church <1577> together <4863>, they rehearsed <312> all <3745>

that

God <2316> had done <4160> with them, and how he had opened <455>

the door <2374> of faith <4102> unto the Gentiles <1484>.

 28  And there <1563> they abode <1304> long <3641> time <5550>

with

the disciples <3101>.

Acts  15

 1. And certain <5100> men which came <2718> down <2718> from

Judaea

<2449> taught <1321> the brethren <80>, [and said], Except

<3362> ye

be circumcised <4059> after the manner <1485> of Moses <3475>, ye

cannot <1410> be saved <4982>.

 2  When therefore <3767> Paul <3972> and Barnabas <921> had

<1096>

no <3756> small <3641> dissension <4714> and disputation <4803>

with

them, they determined <5021> that Paul <3972> and Barnabas <921>,

and certain <5100> other <243> of them, should go <305> up to

Jerusalem <2419> unto the apostles <652> and elders <4245> about

<4012> this <5127> question <2213>.

 3  And being brought <4311> on their way <4311> by the church

<1577>, they passed <1330> through <1330> Phenice <5403> and

Samaria

<4540>, declaring <1555> the conversion <1995> of the Gentiles

<1484>: and they caused <4160> great <3173> joy <5479> unto all

<3956> the brethren <80>.

 4  And when they were come <3854> to Jerusalem <2419>, they were

received <588> of the church <1577>, and [of] the apostles <652>

and

elders <4245>, and they declared <312> all <3745> things that God

<2316> had done <4160> with them.

 5  But there rose <1817> up certain <5100> of the sect <139> of

the

Pharisees <5330> which believed <4100>, saying <3004>, That it

was

needful <1163> to circumcise <4059> them, and to command <3853>

[them] to keep <5083> the law <3551> of Moses <3475>.

 6. And the apostles <652> and elders <4245> came <4863> together

<4863> for to consider <1492> of this <5127> matter <3056>.

 7  And when there had been <1096> much <4183> disputing <4803>,

Peter <4074> rose <450> up, and said <2036> unto them, Men <435>

[and] brethren <80>, ye know <1987> how that a good while <2250>

ago

<575> God <2316> made <1586> choice <1586> among <1722> us, that

the

Gentiles <1484> by my mouth <4750> should hear <191> the word

<3056>

of the gospel <2098>, and believe <4100>.

 8  And God <2316>, which knoweth <2589> the hearts <2589>, bare

<3140> them witness <3140>, giving <1325> them the Holy <40>

Ghost

<4151>, even <2532> as [he did] unto us;

 9  And put <1252> no <3762> difference <1252> between <3342> us

and

them, purifying <2511> their hearts <2588> by faith <4102>.

 10  Now <3568> therefore <3767> why <5101> tempt <3985> ye God

<2316>, to put <2007> a yoke <2218> upon the neck <5137> of the

disciples <3101>, which <3739> neither <3777> our fathers <3962>

nor

<3777> we were able <2480> to bear <941>?

 11  But we believe <4100> that through <1223> the grace <5485>

of

the Lord <2962> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547> we shall be saved

<4982>,

even <2548> as they.

 12  Then <1161> all <3956> the multitude <4128> kept <4601>

silence

<4601>, and gave audience <191> to Barnabas <921> and Paul

<3972>,

declaring <1834> what <3745> miracles <4592> and wonders <5059>

God

<2316> had wrought <4160> among <1722> the Gentiles <1484> by

them.

 13  And after <3326> they had held <4601> their peace <4601>,

James

<2385> answered <611>, saying <3004>, Men <435> [and] brethren

<80>,

hearken <191> unto me:

 14  Simeon <4826> hath declared <1834> how <2531> God <2316> at

the

first <4412> did visit <1980> the Gentiles <1484>, to take <2983>

out of them a people <2992> for his name <3686>.

 15  And to this <5129> agree <4856> the words <3056> of the

prophets <4396>; as it is written <1125>,

 16  After <3326> this <5023> I will return <390>, and will build

<456> again <456> the tabernacle <4633> of David <1138>, which

<3588> is fallen <4098> down; and I will build <456> again <456>

the

ruins <2679> thereof <846>, and I will set <461> it up:

 17  That the residue <2645> of men <444> might seek <1567> after

<1567> the Lord <2962>, and all <3956> the Gentiles <1484>, upon

whom <3739> my name <3686> is called <1941>, saith <3004> the

Lord

<2962>, who <3588> doeth <4160> all <3956> these <5023> things.

 18  Known <1110> unto God <2316> are all <3956> his works <2041>

from the beginning of the world <165>.

 19  Wherefore <1352> my sentence <2919> is, that we trouble

<3926>

not them, which <3588> from among <575> the Gentiles <1484> are

turned <1994> to God <2316>:

 20  But that we write <1989> unto them, that they abstain <567>

from pollutions <234> of idols <1497>, and [from] fornication

<4202>, and [from] things strangled <4156>, and [from] blood

<129>.

 21  For Moses <3475> of old <744> time <1074> hath <2192> in

every

<2596> city <4172> them that preach <2784> him, being read <314>

in

the synagogues <4864> every <3956> sabbath <4521> day.

 22. Then <5119> pleased <1380> it the apostles <652> and elders

<4245>, with the whole <3650> church <1577>, to send <3992>

chosen

<1586> men <435> of their own company to Antioch <490> with Paul

<3972> and Barnabas <921>; [namely], Judas <2455> surnamed <1941>

Barsabas <923>, and Silas <4609>, chief <2233> men <435> among

<1722> the brethren <80>:

 23  And they wrote <1125> [letters] by them after this <3592>

manner <3592>; The apostles <652> and elders <4245> and brethren

<80> [send] greeting <5463> unto the brethren <80> which <3588>

are

of the Gentiles <1484> in Antioch <490> and Syria <4947> and

Cilicia

<2791>:

 24  Forasmuch <1894> as we have heard <191>, that certain <5100>

which went <1831> out from us have troubled <5015> you with words

<3056>, subverting <384> your <5216> souls <5590>, saying <3004>,

[Ye must] be circumcised <4059>, and keep <5083> the law <3551>:

to

whom <3739> we gave <1291> no <3756> [such] commandment <1291>:

 25  It seemed <1380> good unto us, being assembled <1096> with

one

<3661> accord <3661>, to send <3992> chosen <1586> men <435> unto

you with our beloved <27> Barnabas <921> and Paul <3972>,

 26  Men <444> that have hazarded <3860> their lives <5590> for

the

name <3686> of our Lord <2962> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>.

 27  We have sent <649> therefore <3767> Judas <2455> and Silas

<4609>, who <846> shall also <2532> tell <518> [you] the same

<846>

things by mouth <3056>.

 28  For it seemed <1380> good to the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>,

and to

us, to lay <2007> upon you no <3367> greater <4119> burden <922>

than <4133> these <5130> necessary <1876> things;

 29  That ye abstain <567> from meats offered <1494> to idols

<1494>, and from blood <129>, and from things strangled <4156>,

and

from fornication <4202>: from which <3739> if ye keep <1301>

yourselves <1438>, ye shall do <4238> well <2095>. Fare <4517> ye

well <2095>.

 30  So <3767> when they were dismissed <630>, they came <2064>

to

Antioch <490>: and when they had gathered <4863> the multitude

<4128> together <4863>, they delivered <1929> the epistle <1992>:

 31  [Which] when they had read <314>, they rejoiced <5463> for

the

consolation <3874>.

 32  And Judas <2455> and Silas <4609>, being <5607> prophets

<4396>

also <2532> themselves <846>, exhorted <3870> the brethren <80>

with

many <4183> words <3056>, and confirmed <1991> [them].

 33  And after they had tarried <4160> [there] a space <5550>,

they

were let <630> go <630> in peace <1515> from the brethren <80>

unto

the apostles.

 34  Notwithstanding it pleased <1380> Silas <4609> to abide

<1961>

there <847> still.

 35  Paul <3972> also <1161> and Barnabas <921> continued <1304>

in

Antioch <490>, teaching <1321> and preaching <2097> the word

<3056>

of the Lord <2962>, with many <4183> others <2087> also <2532>.

 36. And some <5100> days <2250> after <3326> Paul <3972> said

<2036> unto Barnabas <921>, Let us go <1994> again <1994> and

visit

<1980> our brethren <80> in every <3956> city <4172> where

<3739> we

have preached <2605> the word <3056> of the Lord <2962>, [and

see]

how <4459> they do <2192>.

 37  And Barnabas <921> determined <1011> to take <4838> with

them

John <2491>, whose <3588> surname <2564> was Mark <3138>.

 38  But Paul <3972> thought not good <515> to take <4838> him

with

them, who <3588> departed <868> from them from Pamphylia <3828>,

and

went <4905> not with them to the work <2041>.

 39  And the contention <3948> was so <5620> sharp between them,

that they departed <673> asunder <673> one <240> from the other

<240>: and so <5037> Barnabas <921> took <3880> Mark <3138>, and

sailed <1602> unto Cyprus <2954>;

 40  And Paul <3972> chose <1951> Silas <4609>, and departed

<1831>,

being recommended <3860> by the brethren <80> unto the grace

<5485>

of God <2316>.

 41  And he went <1330> through <1350> Syria <4947> and Cilicia

<2791>, confirming <1991> the churches <1577>.

Acts  16

 1. Then <1161> came <2658> he to Derbe <1191> and Lystra <3082>:

and, behold <2400>, a certain <5100> disciple <3101> was there

<1563>, named <3686> Timotheus <5095>, the son <5207> of a

certain

<5100> woman <1135>, which was a Jewess <2453>, and believed

<4103>;

but his father <3962> [was] a Greek <1672>:

 2  Which <3739> was well <3140> reported <3140> of by the

brethren

<80> that were at <1722> Lystra <3082> and Iconium <2430>.

 3  Him would <2309> Paul <3972> have to go <1831> forth <1831>

with

him; and took <2983> and circumcised <4059> him because <1223> of

the Jews <2453> which <3588> were in those <1565> quarters

<5117>:

for they knew <1492> all <537> that his father <3962> was a Greek

<1672>.

 4  And as they went <1279> through <1279> the cities <4172>,

they

delivered <3860> them the decrees <1378> for to keep <5442>, that

were ordained <2919> of the apostles <652> and elders <4245>

which

<3588> were at <1722> Jerusalem <2419>.

 5  And so <3767> were the churches <1577> established <4732> in

the

faith <4102>, and increased <4052> in number <706> daily <2250>.

 6. Now <1161> when they had gone <1330> throughout <1330>

Phrygia

<5435> and the region <5561> of Galatia <1054>, and were

forbidden

<2967> of the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> to preach <2980> the word

<3056> in Asia <773>,

 7  After they were come <2064> to Mysia <3465>, they assayed

<3985>

to go <4198> into <2596> Bithynia <978>: but the Spirit <4151>

suffered <1439> them not.

 8  And they passing <3928> by Mysia <3465> came <2597> down

<2597>

to Troas <5174>.

 9  And a vision <3705> appeared <3700> to Paul <3972> in the

night

<3571>; There stood <2476> a man <435> of Macedonia <3110>, and

prayed <3870> him, saying <3004>, Come <1224> over <1224> into

<1519> Macedonia <3109>, and help <997> us.

 10  And after <5613> he had seen <1492> the vision <3705>,

immediately <2112> we endeavoured <2212> to go <1831> into <1519>

Macedonia <3109>, assuredly <4822> gathering <4822> that the Lord

<2962> had called <4341> us for to preach <2097> the gospel

<2097>

unto them.

 11  Therefore <3767> loosing <321> from Troas <5174>, we came

<2113> with a straight <2113> course <2113> to Samothracia

<4543>,

and the next <1966> [day] to Neapolis <3496>;

 12  And from thence <1564> to Philippi <5375>, which <3748> is

the

chief <4413> city <4172> of that part <3310> of Macedonia <3109>,

[and] a colony <2862>: and we were in that city <4172> abiding

<1304> certain <5100> days <2250>.

 13  And on the sabbath <4521> we went <1831> out of the city

<4172>

by a river <4215> side <3844>, where prayer <4335> was wont

<3543>

to be made <1511>; and we sat <2523> down <2523>, and spake

<2980>

unto the women <1135> which resorted <4905> [thither].

 14  And a certain <5100> woman <1135> named <3686> Lydia <3070>,

 a

seller <4211> of purple <4211>, of the city <4172> of Thyatira

<2363>, which worshipped <4576> God <2316>, heard <191> [us]:

whose

<3739> heart <2588> the Lord <2962> opened <1272>, that she

attended

<4337> unto the things which were spoken <2980> of Paul <3972>.

 15  And when <5613> she was baptized <907>, and her household

<3624>, she besought <3870> [us], saying <3004>, If <1487> ye

have

judged <2919> me to be faithful <4103> to the Lord <2962>, come

<1525> into <1519> my house <3624>, and abide <3306> [there]. And

she constrained <3849> us.

 16. And it came <1096> to pass, as we went <4198> to prayer

<4335>,

a certain <5100> damsel <3814> possessed <2192> with a spirit

<4151>

of divination <4436> met <528> us, which <3748> brought <3930>

her

masters <2962> much <4183> gain <2039> by soothsaying <3132>:

 17  The same <3778> followed <2628> Paul <3972> and us, and

cried

<2896>, saying <3004>, These <3778> men <444> are the servants

<1401> of the most <5310> high <5310> God <2316>, which <3748>

shew

<2605> unto us the way <3598> of salvation <4991>.

 18  And this <5124> did <4160> she many <4183> days <2250>. But

Paul <3972>, being grieved <1278>, turned <1994> and said <2036>

to

the spirit <4151>, I command <3853> thee in the name <3686> of

Jesus

<2424> Christ <5547> to come <1831> out of her. And he came

<1831>

out the same <846> hour <5610>.

 19  And when her masters <2962> saw <1492> that the hope <1680>

of

their gains <2039> was gone <1831>, they caught <1949> Paul

<3972>

and Silas <4609>, and drew <1670> [them] into <1519> the

marketplace

<58> unto the rulers <758>,

 20  And brought <4317> them to the magistrates <4755>, saying

<2036>, These <3778> men <444>, being <5225> Jews <2453>, do

exceedingly <1613> trouble <1613> our city <4172>,

 21  And teach <2605> customs <1485>, which <3739> are not lawful

<1832> for us to receive <3858>, neither <3761> to observe

<4160>,

being <5605> Romans <4514>.

 22  And the multitude <3793> rose <4911> up together <4911>

against

<2596> them: and the magistrates <4755> rent <4048> off <4048>

their

clothes <2440>, and commanded <2753> to beat <4463> [them].

 23  And when they had laid <2007> many <4183> stripes <4127>

upon

them, they cast <906> [them] into <1519> prison <5438>, charging

<3853> the jailor <1200> to keep <5083> them safely <806>:

 24  Who <3739>, having received <2983> such <5108> a charge

<3852>,

thrust <906> them into <1519> the inner <2082> prison <5438>, and

made <805> their feet <4228> fast <805> in the stocks <3586>.

 25. And at <2596> midnight <3317> Paul <3972> and Silas <4609>

prayed <4336>, and sang <5214> praises unto God <2316>: and the

prisoners <1198> heard <1874> them.

 26  And suddenly <869> there was a great <3173> earthquake

<4578>,

so <5620> that the foundations <2310> of the prison <1201> were

shaken <4531>: and immediately <3916> all <3956> the doors <2374>

were opened <455>, and every <3956> one's bands <1199> were

loosed

<447>.

 27  And the keeper <1200> of the prison <1200> awaking <1853>

out

of his sleep <1853>, and seeing <1492> the prison <5438> doors

<2374> open <455>, he drew <4685> out his sword <3162>, and would

<3195> have killed <337> himself <1438>, supposing <3543> that

the

prisoners <1198> had been fled <1628>.

 28  But Paul <3972> cried <5455> with a loud <3173> voice

<5456>,

saying <3004>, Do <4238> thyself <4572> no <3367> harm <2556>:

for

we are all <537> here <1759>.

 29  Then <1161> he called <154> for a light <5457>, and sprang

<1530> in, and came <1096> trembling <1790>, and fell <4363> down

before <4363> Paul <3972> and Silas <4609>,

 30  And brought <4254> them out, and said <5346>, Sirs <2962>,

what

<5101> must <1163> I do <4160> to be saved <4982>?

 31  And they said <2036>, Believe <4100> on <1909> the Lord

<2962>

Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>, and thou shalt be saved <4982>, and

thy

house <3624>.

 32  And they spake <2980> unto him the word <3056> of the Lord

<2962>, and to all <3956> that were in his house <3614>.

 33  And he took <3880> them the same <1565> hour <5610> of the

night <3571>, and washed <3068> [their] stripes <4127>; and was

baptized <907>, he and all <3956> his, straightway <3916>.

 34  And when he had brought <321> them into <1519> his house

<3624>, he set <3908> meat <5132> before <3908> them, and

rejoiced

<21>, believing <4100> in God <2316> with all <3832> his house

<3832>.

 35. And when it was day <2250>, the magistrates <4755> sent

<649>

the serjeants <4465>, saying <3004>, Let <630> those <1565> men

<444> go <630>.

 36  And the keeper <1200> of the prison <1200> told <518> this

<5128> saying <3056> to Paul <3972>, The magistrates <4755> have

sent <649> to let <630> you go <630>: now <3568> therefore <3767>

depart <1831>, and go <4198> in peace <1515>.

 37  But Paul <3972> said <5346> unto them, They have beaten

<1194>

us openly <1219> uncondemned <178>, being <5225> Romans <4514>,

and

have cast <906> [us] into <1519> prison <5438>; and now <3568> do

they thrust <1544> us out privily <2977>? nay <3756> verily

<1063>;

but let them come <2064> themselves <846> and fetch <1806> us

out.

 38  And the serjeants <4465> told <312> these <5023> words

<4487>

unto the magistrates <4755>: and they feared <5399>, when they

heard

<191> that they were Romans <4514>.

 39  And they came <2064> and besought <3870> them, and brought

<1806> [them] out, and desired <2065> [them] to depart <1831>

out of

the city <4172>.

 40  And they went <1831> out of the prison <5438>, and entered

<1525> into <1519> [the house of] Lydia <3070>: and when they had

seen <1492> the brethren <80>, they comforted <3870> them, and

departed <1831>.

Acts  17

 1. Now <1161> when they had passed <1353> through <1653>

Amphipolis

<295> and Apollonia <624>, they came <2064> to Thessalonica

<2332>,

where <3699> was a synagogue <4864> of the Jews <2453>:

 2  And Paul <3972>, as his manner <1485> was, went <1525> in

unto

them, and three <5140> sabbath <4521> days reasoned <1256> with

them

out of the scriptures <1124>,

 3  Opening <1272> and alleging <3908>, that Christ <5547> must

<1163> needs have suffered <3958>, and risen <450> again <450>

from

the dead <3498>; and that this <3778> Jesus <2424>, whom <3739> I

preach <2605> unto you, is Christ <5547>.

 4  And some <5100> of them believed <3982>, and consorted <4345>

with Paul <3972> and Silas <4609>; and of the devout <4576>

Greeks

<1672> a great <4183> multitude <4128>, and of the chief <4413>

women <1135> not a few <3641>.

 5  But the Jews <2453> which believed <544> not, moved <2206>

with

envy <2206>, took <4355> unto them certain <5100> lewd <4190>

fellows <435> of the baser <60> sort, and gathered <3792> a

company

<3792>, and set <2350> all the city <4172> on an uproar <2350>,

and

assaulted <2186> the house <3614> of Jason <2394>, and sought

<2212>

to bring <71> them out to the people <1218>.

 6  And when they found <2147> them not, they drew <4951> Jason

<2394> and certain <5100> brethren <80> unto the rulers <4173> of

the city <4173>, crying <994>, These <3778> that have turned

<387>

the world <3625> upside <389> down <387> are come <3918> hither

<1759> also <2532>;

 7  Whom <3739> Jason <2394> hath received <5264>: and these

<3778>

all <3956> do <4160> contrary <561> to the decrees <1378> of

Caesar

<2541>, saying <3004> that there is another <2087> king <935>,

[one]

Jesus <2424>.

 8  And they troubled <5015> the people <3793> and the rulers

<4173>

of the city <4173>, when they heard <191> these <5023> things.

 9  And when they had taken <2983> security <2425> of Jason

<2394>,

and of the other <3062>, they let <630> them go <630>.

 10. And the brethren <80> immediately <2112> sent <1599> away

<1599> Paul <3972> and Silas <4609> by night <3571> unto Berea

<960>: who <3748> coming <3854> [thither <3854>] went <549> into

<1519> the synagogue <4864> of the Jews <2453>.

 11  These <3778> were more noble <2104> than those <3588> in

Thessalonica <2332>, in that they received <1209> the word <3056>

with all <3956> readiness <4288> of mind <4288>, and searched

<350>

the scriptures <1124> daily <2250>, whether <1487> those <5023>

things were so <3779>.

 12  Therefore <3767> many <4183> of them believed <4100>; also

<2532> of honourable <2158> women <1135> which <3588> were Greeks

<1674>, and of men <435>, not a few <3641>.

 13  But when <5613> the Jews <2453> of Thessalonica <2332> had

knowledge <1097> that the word <3056> of God <2316> was preached

<2605> of Paul <3972> at <1722> Berea <960>, they came <2064>

thither <1563> also <2546>, and stirred <4531> up the people

<3793>.

 14  And then <5119> immediately <2112> the brethren <80> sent

<1821> away <1821> Paul <3972> to go <4198> as it were to the sea

<2281>: but Silas <4609> and Timotheus <5095> abode <5278> there

<1563> still.

 15  And they that conducted <2525> Paul <3972> brought <71> him

unto Athens <116>: and receiving <2983> a commandment <1785> unto

Silas <4609> and Timotheus <5095> for to come <2064> to him with

all

<5033> speed <5033>, they departed <1826>.

 16. Now <1161> while Paul <3972> waited <1551> for them at

<1722>

Athens <116>, his spirit <4151> was stirred <3947> in him, when

he

saw <2334> the city <4172> wholly given to idolatry <2712>.

 17  Therefore <3767> disputed <1256> he in the synagogue <4864>

with the Jews <2453>, and with the devout <4576> persons, and in

the

market <58> daily <2250> with them that met <3909> with him.

 18  Then <1161> certain <5100> philosophers <5386> of the

Epicureans <1946>, and of the Stoicks <4770>, encountered <4820>

him. And some <5100> said <3004>, What <5101> will <2309> this

<3778> babbler <4691> say <3004>? other <1161> some <3588>, He

seemeth <1380> to be a setter <2604> forth <2604> of strange

<3581>

gods <1140>: because <3754> he preached <2907> unto them Jesus

<2424>, and the resurrection <386>.

 19  And they took <1949> him, and brought <71> him unto

Areopagus

<697>, saying <3004>, May <1410> we know <1097> what <5101> this

<3778> new <2537> doctrine <1322>, whereof thou speakest <2980>,

[is]?

 20  For thou bringest <1533> certain <5100> strange <3579>

things

to our ears <189>: we would know <1097> therefore <3767> what

<5101>

these <5023> things mean <1511>.

 21  (For all <3956> the Athenians <117> and strangers <3581>

which

<3588> were there <1927> spent <2119> their time <2119> in

nothing

<3762> else <2087>, but either <2228> to tell <3004>, or <2532>

to

hear <191> some <5100> new <2537> thing.)

 22. Then <1161> Paul <3972> stood <2476> in the midst <3319> of

Mars <697>' hill <697>, and said <5346>, [Ye] men <435> of Athens

<117>, I perceive <2334> that in all <3956> things ye are too

<1174>

superstitious <1174>.

 23  For as I passed <1330> by, and beheld <333> your <5216>

devotions <4574>, I found <2147> an altar <1041> with this <3739>

inscription <1924>, TO THE UNKNOWN <57> GOD <2316>. Whom <3739>

therefore <3767> ye ignorantly <50> worship <2151>, him declare

<2605> I unto you.

 24  God <2316> that made <4160> the world <2889> and all <3956>

things therein <846>, seeing that he is Lord <2962> of heaven

<3772>

and earth <1093>, dwelleth <2730> not in temples <3485> made

<5499>

with hands <5499>;

 25  Neither <3761> is worshipped <2323> with men's <444> hands

<5495>, as though he needed <4326> any <5100> thing, seeing he

giveth <1325> to all <3956> life <2222>, and breath <4157>, and

all

<3956> things;

 26  And hath made <4160> of one <1520> blood <129> all <3956>

nations <1484> of men <444> for to dwell <2730> on <1909> all

<3956>

the face <4383> of the earth <1093>, and hath determined <3724>

the

times <2540> before <4384> appointed <4384>, and the bounds

<3734>

of their habitation <2733>;

 27  That they should seek <2212> the Lord <2962>, if <1487>

haply

<686> they might feel <5584> after him, and find <2147> him,

though

<2544> he be not far <3112> from every <1538> one <1520> of us:

 28  For in him we live <2198>, and move <2795>, and have our

being

<2070>; as certain <5100> also <2532> of your <5209> own <2596>

poets <4163> have said <2046>, For we are also <2532> his

offspring

<1085>.

 29  Forasmuch then <3767> as we are the offspring <1085> of God

<2316>, we ought <3784> not to think <3543> that the Godhead

<2304>

is like <3664> unto gold <5557>, or <2228> silver <696>, or

<2228>

stone <3037>, graven <5480> by art <5078> and man's <444> device

<1761>.

 30  And the times <5550> of this <3588> ignorance <52> God

<2316>

winked <5237> at; but now <3568> commandeth <3853> all <3956> men

<444> every <3837> where <3837> to repent <3340>:

 31  Because <1360> he hath appointed <2476> a day <2250>, in the

which <3739> he will <3195> judge <2919> the world <3625> in

righteousness <1343> by [that] man <435> whom <3739> he hath

ordained <3724>; [whereof] he hath given <3930> assurance <4102>

unto all <3956> [men], in that he hath raised <450> him from the

dead <3498>.

 32. And when they heard <191> of the resurrection <386> of the

dead

<3498>, some <3588> mocked <5512>: and others <3588> said <2036>,

 We

will hear <191> thee again <3825> of this <5127> [matter].

 33  So <3779> Paul <3972> departed <1831> from among <3319>

them.

 34  Howbeit certain <5100> men <435> clave <2853> unto him, and

believed <4100>: among <1722> the which <3739> [was] Dionysius

<1354> the Areopagite <698>, and a woman <1135> named <3686>

Damaris

<1152>, and others <2087> with them.

Acts  18

 1. After <3326> these <5023> things Paul <3972> departed <5562>

from Athens <116>, and came <2064> to Corinth <2882>;

 2  And found <2147> a certain <5100> Jew <2453> named <3686>

Aquila

<207>, born <1085> in Pontus <4195>, lately <4373> come <2064>

from

Italy <2482>, with his wife <1135> Priscilla <4252>; (because

that

Claudius <2804> had commanded <1299> all <3956> Jews <2453> to

depart <5562> from Rome <4516>:) and came <4334> unto them.

 3  And because <1223> he was of the same <3673> craft <3673>, he

abode <3306> with them, and wrought <2038>: for by their

occupation

<5078> they were tentmakers <4635>.

 4  And he reasoned <1256> in the synagogue <4864> every <3956>

sabbath <4521>, and persuaded <3982> the Jews <2453> and the

Greeks

<1672>.

 5  And when <5613> Silas <4609> and Timotheus <5095> were come

<2718> from Macedonia <3109>, Paul <3972> was pressed <4912> in

the

spirit <4151>, and testified <1263> to the Jews <2453> [that]

Jesus

<2424> [was] Christ <5547>.

 6  And when they opposed <498> themselves, and blasphemed <987>,

 he

shook <1621> [his] raiment <2440>, and said <2036> unto them,

Your

<546> blood <129> [be] upon your <546> own heads <2776>; I [am]

clean <2513>: from henceforth <3568> I will go <4198> unto the

Gentiles <1484>.

 7. And he departed <1831> thence <1564>, and entered <2064> into

<1519> a certain <5100> [man's] house <3614>, named <3686> Justus

<2459>, [one] that worshipped <4576> God <2316>, whose <3739>

house

<3614> joined <4927> hard <4927> to the synagogue <4864>.

 8  And Crispus <2921>, the chief <752> ruler <752> of the

synagogue

<752>, believed <4100> on the Lord <2962> with all <3650> his

house

<3624>; and many <4183> of the Corinthians <2881> hearing <191>

believed <4100>, and were baptized <907>.

 9  Then <1161> spake <2036> the Lord <2962> to Paul <3972> in

the

night <3571> by a vision <3705>, Be not afraid <5399>, but speak

<2980>, and hold <4623> not thy peace <4623>:

 10  For I am <1510> with thee, and no <3762> man <3762> shall

set

<2007> on <2007> thee to hurt <2559> thee: for I have <2076> much

<4183> people <2992> in this <5026> city <4172>.

 11  And he continued <2523> [there] a year <1763> and six <1803>

months <3376>, teaching <1321> the word <3056> of God <2316>

among

<1722> them.

 12. And when Gallio <1058> was the deputy <446> of Achaia <882>,

the Jews <2453> made <2721> insurrection <2721> with one <3361>

accord <3661> against Paul <3972>, and brought <71> him to the

judgment <968> seat <968>,

 13  Saying <3004>, This <3778> [fellow] persuadeth <374> men

<444>

to worship <4576> God <2316> contrary <3844> to the law <3551>.

 14  And when Paul <3972> was now <1161> about <3195> to open

<455>

[his] mouth <4750>, Gallio <1058> said <2036> unto the Jews

<2453>,

If <1487> it were a matter of wrong <92> or <2228> wicked <4190>

lewdness <4467>, O [ye] Jews <2453>, reason <3056> would that I

should bear <430> with you:

 15  But if <1487> it be a question <2213> of words <3056> and

names

<3686>, and [of] your <5209> law <3551>, look <3700> ye [to it];

for

I will <1014> be no <3756> judge <2923> of such <5130> [matters].

 16  And he drave <556> them from the judgment <968> seat <968>.

 17  Then <1161> all <3956> the Greeks <1672> took <1949>

Sosthenes

<4988>, the chief <752> ruler <752> of the synagogue <752>, and

beat

<5180> [him] before <1715> the judgment <968> seat <968>. And

Gallio

<1058> cared <3199> for none <3762> of those <5130> things.

 18. And Paul <3972> [after this] tarried <4357> [there] yet

<2089>

a good <2425> while <2250>, and then took <657> his leave <657>

of

the brethren <80>, and sailed <1602> thence into <1519> Syria

<4947>, and with him Priscilla <4252> and Aquila <207>; having

shorn

<2751> [his] head <2776> in Cenchrea <2747>: for he had <2192> a

vow

<2171>.

 19  And he came <2658> to Ephesus <2181>, and left <2641> them

there <847>: but he himself <846> entered <1525> into <1519> the

synagogue <4864>, and reasoned <1256> with the Jews <2453>.

 20  When they desired <2065> [him] to tarry <3306> longer <4119>

time <5550> with them, he consented <1962> not;

 21  But bade <657> them farewell <657>, saying <2036>, I must

<1163> by all <3843> means <3843> keep <4160> this <3588> feast

<1859> that cometh <2064> in Jerusalem <2414>: but I will return

<344> again <3825> unto you, if God <2316> will <2309>. And he

sailed <321> from Ephesus <2181>.

 22  And when he had landed <2718> at <1519> Caesarea <2542>, and

gone <305> up, and saluted <782> the church <1577>, he went

<2597>

down <2597> to Antioch <490>.

 23  And after he had spent <4160> some <5100> time <5550>

[there],

he departed <1831>, and went <1330> over <1330> [all] the country

<5561> of Galatia <1054> and Phrygia <5435> in order <2517>,

strengthening <1991> all <3956> the disciples <3101>.

 24. And a certain <5100> Jew <2453> named <3686> Apollos <625>,

born <1085> at Alexandria <221>, an eloquent <3052> man <435>,

[and]

mighty <1415> in the scriptures <1124>, came <2658> to Ephesus

<2181>.

 25  This <3778> man was instructed <2727> in the way <3598> of

the

Lord <2962>; and being fervent <2204> in the spirit <4151>, he

spake

<2980> and taught <1321> diligently <199> the things of the Lord

<2962>, knowing <1987> only <3440> the baptism <908> of John

<2491>.

 26  And he began <756> to speak boldly <3955> in the synagogue

<4864>: whom <846> when Aquila <207> and Priscilla <4252> had

heard

<191>, they took <4355> him unto [them], and expounded <1620>

unto

him the way <3598> of God <2316> more <197> perfectly <197>.

 27  And when he was disposed <1014> to pass <1330> into <1519>

Achaia <882>, the brethren <80> wrote <1125>, exhorting <4389>

the

disciples <3101> to receive <588> him: who <3739>, when he was

come

<3854>, helped <4820> them much <4183> which had believed <4100>

through <1223> grace <5485>:

 28  For he mightily <2159> convinced <1246> the Jews <2453>,

[and

that] publickly <1219>, shewing <1925> by the scriptures <1124>

that

Jesus <2424> was Christ <5547>.

Acts  19

 1. And it came <1096> to pass, that, while <3588> Apollos <625>

was

at <1722> Corinth <2882>, Paul <3972> having passed <1330>

through

<1330> the upper <510> coasts <3313> came <2064> to Ephesus

<2181>:

and finding <2147> certain <5100> disciples <3101>,

 2  He said <2036> unto them, Have ye received <2983> the Holy

<40>

Ghost <4151> since ye believed <4100>? And they said <2036> unto

him, We have not so <3761> much <3761> as heard <191> whether

<1487>

there be any Holy <40> Ghost <4151>.

 3  And he said <2036> unto them, Unto what <5101> then <3767>

were

ye baptized <907>? And they said <2036>, Unto John's <2491>

baptism

<908>.

 4  Then <1161> said <2036> Paul <3972>, John <2491> verily

<3303>

baptized <907> with the baptism <908> of repentance <3341>,

saying

<3004> unto the people <2992>, that they should believe <4100> on

<1519> him which should come <2064> after <3326> him, that is, on

<1519> Christ <5547> Jesus <2424>.

 5  When they heard <191> [this], they were baptized <907> in the

name <3686> of the Lord <2962> Jesus <2424>.

 6  And when Paul <3972> had laid <2007> [his] hands <5495> upon

them, the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> came <2064> on <1909> them; and

they spake <2980> with tongues <1100>, and prophesied <4395>.

 7  And all <3956> the men <435> were about <5616> twelve <1177>.

 8. And he went <1525> into <1519> the synagogue <4864>, and

spake

boldly <3955> for the space <1909> of three <5140> months <3376>,

disputing <1256> and persuading <3982> the things concerning

<4012>

the kingdom <932> of God <2316>.

 9  But when <5613> divers <5100> were hardened <4645>, and

believed

<544> not, but spake <2551> evil of that way <3598> before <1799>

the multitude <4128>, he departed <868> from them, and separated

<873> the disciples <3101>, disputing <1256> daily <2250> in the

school <4981> of one <5100> Tyrannus <5181>.

 10  And this <5124> continued <1096> by the space <1909> of two

<1417> years <2094>; so <5620> that all <3956> they which dwelt

<2730> in Asia <773> heard <191> the word <3056> of the Lord

<2962>

Jesus <2424>, both <5037> Jews <2453> and Greeks <1672>.

 11  And God <2316> wrought <4160> special <5177> miracles

<1411> by

the hands <5495> of Paul <3972>:

 12  So <5620> that from his body <5559> were brought <2018> unto

the sick <770> handkerchiefs <4676> or <2228> aprons <4612>, and

the

diseases <3554> departed <525> from them, and the evil <4190>

spirits <4151> went <1831> out of them.

 13. Then <1161> certain <5100> of the vagabond <4022> Jews

<2453>,

exorcists <1845>, took <2021> upon them to call <3687> over

<1909>

them which had <2192> evil <4190> spirits <4151> the name <3686>

of

the Lord <2962> Jesus <2424>, saying <3004>, We adjure <3726>

you by

Jesus <2424> whom <3739> Paul <3972> preacheth <2784>.

 14  And there were seven <2033> sons <5207> of [one] Sceva

<4630>,

a Jew <2453>, [and] chief <749> of the priests <749>, which did

<4160> so <5124>.

 15  And the evil <4190> spirit <4151> answered <611> and said

<2036>, Jesus <2424> I know <1097>, and Paul <3972> I know

<1987>;

but who <5101> are ye?

 16  And the man <444> in whom <3739> the evil <4190> spirit

<4151>

was leaped <2177> on <1909> them, and overcame <2634> them, and

prevailed <2480> against <2596> them, so <5620> that they fled

<1628> out of that house <3624> naked <1131> and wounded <5135>.

 17  And this <5124> was known <1110> to all <3956> the Jews

<2453>

and Greeks <1672> also <2532> dwelling <2730> at Ephesus <2181>;

and

fear <5401> fell <1968> on <1909> them all <3956>, and the name

<3686> of the Lord <2962> Jesus <2424> was magnified <3170>.

 18  And many <4183> that believed <4100> came <2064>, and

confessed

<1843>, and shewed <312> their deeds <4234>.

 19  Many <2425> of them also <1161> which used <4238> curious

<4021> arts <4021> brought <4851> their books <976> together

<4851>,

and burned <2618> them before <1799> all <3956> [men]: and they

counted <4860> the price <5092> of them, and found <2147> [it]

fifty

<3461> thousand <3461> [pieces] of silver <694>.

 20  So <3779> mightily <2904> grew <837> the word <3056> of God

<2962> and prevailed <2480>.

 21. After <5613> these <5023> things were ended <4137>, Paul

<3972>

purposed <5087> in the spirit <4151>, when he had passed <1330>

through <1330> Macedonia <3109> and Achaia <882>, to go <4198> to

Jerusalem <2419>, saying <2036>, After <3326> I have been <1096>

there <1563>, I must <1163> also <2532> see <1492> Rome <4516>.

 22  So he sent <649> into <1519> Macedonia <3109> two <1417> of

them that ministered <1247> unto him, Timotheus <5095> and

Erastus

<2037>; but he himself <846> stayed <1907> in Asia <773> for a

season <5550>.

 23  And the same <1565> time <2540> there arose <1096> no <3756>

small <3641> stir <5017> about <4012> that way <3598>.

 24  For a certain <5100> [man] named <3686> Demetrius <1216>, a

silversmith <695>, which made <4160> silver <693> shrines <3485>

for

Diana <735>, brought <3930> no <3756> small <3641> gain <2039>

unto

the craftsmen <5079>;

 25  Whom <3739> he called <4867> together <4867> with the

workmen

<2040> of like <5108> occupation, and said <2036>, Sirs <435>, ye

know <1987> that by this <5026> craft <2039> we have <2076> our

wealth <2142>.

 26  Moreover <2532> ye see <2334> and hear <191>, that not alone

<3440> at Ephesus <2181>, but almost <4975> throughout all <3956>

Asia <773>, this <3778> Paul <3972> hath persuaded <3982> and

turned

<3179> away <3179> much <2425> people <3793>, saying <3004> that

they be no <3756> gods <2316>, which <3588> are made <1096> with

hands <5495>:

 27  So that not only <3440> this <5124> our craft <3313> is in

danger <2793> to be set <2064> at <1519> nought <557>; but also

<2532> that the temple <2411> of the great <3173> goddess <2299>

Diana <735> should be despised <3049>, and her magnificence

<3168>

should <3195> be destroyed <2507>, whom <3739> all <3650> Asia

<773>

and the world <3625> worshippeth <4576>.

 28  And when they heard <191> [these sayings], they were full

<4134> of wrath <2372>, and cried <2896> out, saying <3004>,

Great

<3173> [is] Diana <735> of the Ephesians <2180>.

 29  And the whole <3650> city <4172> was filled <4130> with

confusion <4799>: and having caught <4884> Gaius <1050> and

Aristarchus <708>, men of Macedonia <3110>, Paul's <3972>

companions

<4898> in travel <4898>, they rushed <3729> with one <3661>

accord

<3661> into <1519> the theatre <2302>.

 30  And when Paul <3972> would have entered <1525> in unto the

people <1218>, the disciples <3101> suffered <1439> him not.

 31  And certain <5100> of the chief <775> of Asia <775>, which

were

his friends <5384>, sent <3992> unto him, desiring <3870> [him]

that

he would not adventure <1325> himself <1438> into <1519> the

theatre

<2302>.

 32  Some <243> therefore <3767> cried <2896> one <3303> thing,

and

some <243> another <243>: for the assembly <1577> was confused

<4797>; and the more <4119> part knew <1492> not wherefore <1752>

they were come <4905> together <4897>.

 33  And they drew <4264> Alexander <223> out of the multitude

<3793>, the Jews <2453> putting <4261> him forward <4261>. And

Alexander <223> beckoned <2678> with the hand <5495>, and would

<2309> have made <626> his defence <626> unto the people <1218>.

 34  But when they knew <1921> that he was a Jew <2453>, all

<3956>

with one <3391> voice <5456> about <5613> the space <1909> of two

<1417> hours <5610> cried <2896> out, Great <3173> [is] Diana

<735>

of the Ephesians <2180>.

 35  And when the townclerk <1122> had appeased <2687> the people

<3793>, he said <5346>, [Ye] men <435> of Ephesus <2181>, what

<5101> man <444> is there that knoweth <1097> not how that the

city

<4172> of the Ephesians <2180> is a worshipper <3511> of the

great

<3173> goddess <2299> Diana <735>, and of the [image] which fell

<1356> down from Jupiter <1356>?

 36  Seeing then <3767> that these <5130> things cannot <368> be

spoken <369> against <368>, ye ought <1163> to be quiet <2687>,

and

to do <4160> nothing <3367> rashly <4312>.

 37  For ye have brought <71> hither these <5128> men <435>,

which

are neither <3777> robbers <2417> of churches <2417>, nor <3777>

yet

blasphemers <987> of your <5216> goddess <2299>.

 38  Wherefore <3767> if <1487> Demetrius <1216>, and the

craftsmen

<5079> which are with him, have <2192> a matter <3056> against

<4314> any <5100> man, the law <60> is open <71>, and there are

deputies <446>: let them implead <1458> one <240> another <240>.

 39  But if <1487> ye enquire <1934> any <5100> thing concerning

<4012> other <2087> matters, it shall be determined <1956> in a

lawful <1772> assembly <1577>.

 40  For we are in danger <2793> to be called <1458> in question

<1458> for this <4594> day's <4594> uproar <4714>, there being

<5225> no <3367> cause <158> whereby <3757> we may <1410> give

<591>

an account <3056> of this <5026> concourse <4963>.

 41  And when he had thus <5023> spoken <2036>, he dismissed

<630>

the assembly <1577>.

Acts  20

 1. And after <3326> the uproar <2351> was ceased <3973>, Paul

<3972> called <4341> unto [him] the disciples <3101>, and

embraced

<782> [them], and departed <1831> for to go <4198> into <1519>

Macedonia <3109>.

 2  And when he had gone <1330> over <1330> those <1565> parts

<3313>, and had given them much <4183> exhortation <3870>, he

came

<2064> into <1519> Greece <1671>,

 3  And [there] abode <4160> three <5140> months <3376>. And when

the Jews <2453> laid <1096> wait <1917> for him, as he was about

<3195> to sail <321> into <1519> Syria <4947>, he purposed

<1106> to

return <5290> through <1223> Macedonia <3109>.

 4  And there accompanied <4902> him into Asia <773> Sopater

<4986>

of Berea <960>; and of the Thessalonians <2331>, Aristarchus

<708>

and Secundus <4580>; and Gaius <1050> of Derbe <1191>, and

Timotheus

<5095>; and of Asia <773>, Tychicus <5190> and Trophimus <5161>.

 5  These <3778> going <4281> before <4281> tarried <3306> for

us at

<1722> Troas <5174>.

 6  And we sailed <1602> away <1602> from Philippi <5375> after

<3326> the days <2250> of unleavened <106> bread, and came <2064>

unto them to Troas <5174> in five <4002> days <2250>; where

<3757>

we abode <1304> seven <2033> days <2250>.

 7. And upon the first <3391> [day] of the week <4521>, when the

disciples <3101> came <4863> together <4863> to break <2806>

bread

<740>, Paul <3972> preached <1256> unto them, ready <3195> to

depart

<1826> on the morrow <1887>; and continued <3905> his speech

<3056>

until <3360> midnight <3317>.

 8  And there were many <2425> lights <2985> in the upper <5250>

chamber <5253>, where <3757> they were gathered <4863> together

<4863>.

 9  And there sat <2521> in a window <2376> a certain <5100>

young

<3494> man <3494> named <3686> Eutychus <2161>, being fallen

<2702>

into a deep <901> sleep <5258>: and as Paul <3972> was long

<4119>

preaching <1256>, he sunk <2702> down <2736> with sleep <5258>,

and

fell <4098> down from the third <5152> loft <5152>, and was taken

<142> up dead <3498>.

 10  And Paul <3972> went <2597> down <2597>, and fell <1968> on

<1968> him, and embracing <4843> [him] said <2036>, Trouble

<2350>

not yourselves; for his life <5590> is in him.

 11  When he therefore <3767> was come <305> up again, and had

broken <2806> bread <740>, and eaten <1089>, and talked <3656> a

long <2425> while, even till <891> break <827> of day <827>, so

<3779> he departed <1831>.

 12  And they brought <71> the young <3816> man alive <2198>, and

were not a little <3357> comforted <3870>.

 13. And we went <4281> before <4281> to ship <4143>, and sailed

<321> unto Assos <789>, there <1564> intending <3195> to take

<353>

in Paul <3972>: for so <3779> had he appointed <1299>, minding

<3195> himself <846> to go afoot <3978>.

 14  And when <5613> he met <4820> with us at <1519> Assos <789>,

 we

took <353> him in, and came <2064> to Mitylene <3412>.

 15  And we sailed <636> thence <1564>, and came <2064> the next

<1966> [day] over <481> against <481> Chios <5508>; and the next

<2087> [day] we arrived <3846> at <1519> Samos <4544>, and

tarried

<3306> at <1722> Trogyllium <5175>; and the next <2192> [day] we

came <2658> to Miletus <3399>.

 16  For Paul <3972> had determined <2919> to sail <3896> by

Ephesus

<2181>, because <3704> he would <1096> not spend <5551> the time

<5551> in Asia <773>: for he hasted <4692>, if <1487> it were

possible <1415> for him, to be at <1519> Jerusalem <2414> the day

<2250> of Pentecost <4005>.

 17. And from Miletus <3399> he sent <3992> to Ephesus <2181>,

and

called <3333> the elders <4245> of the church <1577>.

 18  And when <5613> they were come <3854> to him, he said <2036>

unto them, Ye know <1987>, from the first <4413> day <2250> that

I

came <1910> into <1519> Asia <773>, after <4459> what <4459>

manner

<4458> I have been <1096> with you at all <3956> seasons <5550>,

 19  Serving <1398> the Lord <2962> with all <3956> humility

<5012>

of mind, and with many <4183> tears <1144>, and temptations

<3986>,

which <3588> befell <4819> me by the lying in wait <1917> of the

Jews <2453>:

 20  [And] how <5613> I kept <5288> back <5288> nothing <3762>

that

was profitable <4851> [unto you], but have shewed <312> you, and

have taught <1321> you publickly <1219>, and from house <3624> to

house <3624>,

 21  Testifying <1263> both <5037> to the Jews <2453>, and also

<2532> to the Greeks <1672>, repentance <3341> toward <1519> God

<2316>, and faith <4102> toward <1519> our Lord <2962> Jesus

<2424>

Christ <5547>.

 22  And now <3568>, behold <2400>, I go <4198> bound <1210> in

the

spirit <4151> unto Jerusalem <2419>, not knowing <1492> the

things

that shall befall <4876> me there <846>:

 23  Save <4133> that the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> witnesseth

<1263>

in every <2596> city <4172>, saying <3004> that bonds <1199> and

afflictions <2347> abide <3306> me.

 24  But none <3762> of these things <3056> move <4160> me,

neither

<3761> count <2192> I my life <5590> dear <5093> unto myself

<1683>,

so <5613> that I might finish <5048> my course <1408> with joy

<5479>, and the ministry <1248>, which <3739> I have received

<2983>

of the Lord <2962> Jesus <2424>, to testify <1263> the gospel

<2098>

of the grace <5485> of God <2316>.

 25  And now <3568>, behold <2400>, I know <1492> that ye all

<3956>, among <1722> whom <3739> I have gone <1330> preaching

<2784>

the kingdom <932> of God <2316>, shall see <3700> my face <4383>

no

<3765> more <3765>.

 26  Wherefore <1352> I take you to record <3143> this <4594> day

<4594>, that I [am] pure <2513> from the blood <129> of all

<3956>

[men].

 27  For I have not shunned <5288> to declare <312> unto you all

<3956> the counsel <1012> of God <2316>.

 28  Take heed <4337> therefore unto yourselves <1438>, and to

all

<3956> the flock <4168>, over <1722> the which <3739> the Holy

<40>

Ghost <4151> hath made <5087> you overseers <1985>, to feed

<4165>

the church <1577> of God <2316>, which <3739> he hath purchased

<4046> with his own <2398> blood <129>.

 29  For I know <1492> this <5124>, that after <3326> my

departing

<867> shall grievous <926> wolves <3074> enter <1525> in among

<1519> you, not sparing <5339> the flock <4168>.

 30  Also <2532> of your <5216> own selves <846> shall men <435>

arise <450>, speaking <2980> perverse <1294> things, to draw

<645>

away <645> disciples <3101> after <3694> them.

 31  Therefore <1352> watch <1127>, and remember <3421>, that by

the

space <4158> of three <5148> years <5148> I ceased <3973> not to

warn <3560> every <1538> one <1520> night <3571> and day <2250>

with

tears <1144>.

 32  And now <3568>, brethren <80>, I commend <3908> you to God

<2316>, and to the word <3056> of his grace <5485>, which <3588>

is

able <1410> to build <2026> you up, and to give <1325> you an

inheritance <2817> among <1722> all <3956> them which are

sanctified

<37>.

 33  I have coveted <1937> no <3762> man's <3762> silver <694>,

or

<2228> gold <5553>, or <2228> apparel <2441>.

 34  Yea <1161>, ye yourselves <846> know <1097>, that these

<3778>

hands <5495> have ministered <5256> unto my necessities <5532>,

and

to them that were with me.

 35  I have shewed <5263> you all <3956> things, how that so

<3779>

labouring <2872> ye ought <1163> to support <482> the weak <770>,

and to remember <3421> the words <3056> of the Lord <2962> Jesus

<2424>, how <3754> he said <2036>, It is more <3122> blessed

<3107>

to give <1325> than to receive <2983>.

 36. And when he had thus <5023> spoken <2036>, he kneeled <1119>

down, and prayed <4336> with them all <3956>.

 37  And they all <3956> wept <2805> sore <2425>, and fell

<1968> on

<1909> Paul's <3972> neck <5137>, and kissed <2705> him,

 38  Sorrowing <3600> most <3122> of all <3122> for the words

<3056>

which <3739> he spake <2046>, that they should <3195> see <2234>

his

face <4383> no <3765> more <3765>. And they accompanied <4311>

him

unto the ship <4143>.

Acts  21

 1. And it came <1096> to pass, that after <5613> we were gotten

<645> from them, and had launched <321>, we came <2064> with a

straight <2113> course <4144> unto Coos <2972>, and the [day]

following <1836> unto Rhodes <4499>, and from thence <1564> unto

Patara <3959>:

 2  And finding <2147> a ship <4143> sailing <1276> over <1276>

unto

Phenicia <5403>, we went <1910> aboard <1910>, and set <321>

forth

<321>.

 3  Now <1161> when we had discovered <398> Cyprus <2954>, we

left

<2641> it on the left <2176> hand, and sailed <4126> into <1519>

Syria <4947>, and landed <2609> at <1519> Tyre <5184>: for there

<1566> the ship <4143> was to unlade <670> her burden <1117>.

 4  And finding <429> disciples <3101>, we tarried <1961> there

<847> seven <2033> days <2250>: who <3748> said <3004> to Paul

<3972> through <1223> the Spirit <4151>, that he should not go

<305>

up to Jerusalem <2419>.

 5  And when <3753> we had accomplished <1822> those <3588> days

<2250>, we departed <1831> and went <4198> our way <4311>; and

they

all <3956> brought <4311> us on <1909> our way <4311>, with wives

<1135> and children <5043>, till <2193> [we were] out of the city

<4172>: and we kneeled <1119> down on <1909> the shore <123>, and

prayed <4336>.

 6  And when we had taken <782> our leave <782> one <240> of

another

<240>, we took <1519> ship <4143>; and they returned <5290> home

<2398> again <5290>.

 7  And when we had finished <1274> [our] course <4144> from Tyre

<5184>, we came <2658> to Ptolemais <4424>, and saluted <782> the

brethren <80>, and abode <3306> with them one <3391> day <2250>.

 8. And the next <1887> [day] we that were of Paul's <3972>

company

<4012> departed <1831>, and came <2064> unto Caesarea <2542>:

and we

entered <1525> into <1519> the house <3624> of Philip <5376> the

evangelist <2099>, which was [one] of the seven <2033>; and abode

<3306> with him.

 9  And the same <5129> man had <1510> four <5064> daughters

<2364>,

virgins <3933>, which did prophesy <4395>.

 10  And as we tarried <1961> [there] many <4119> days <2250>,

there

came <2718> down <2718> from Judaea <2449> a certain <5100>

prophet

<4396>, named <3686> Agabus <13>.

 11  And when he was come <2064> unto us, he took <142> Paul's

<3972> girdle <2223>, and bound <1210> his own <848> hands <5495>

and feet <4228>, and said <2036>, Thus <3592> saith <3004> the

Holy

<40> Ghost <4151>, So <3779> shall the Jews <2453> at <1722>

Jerusalem <2419> bind <1210> the man <435> that owneth <2076>

this

<3778> girdle <2223>, and shall deliver <3860> [him] into <1519>

the

hands <5495> of the Gentiles <1484>.

 12  And when <5613> we heard <191> these <5023> things, both

<5037>

we, and they of that place <1786>, besought <3870> him not to go

<305> up to Jerusalem <2419>.

 13  Then <1161> Paul <3972> answered <611>, What <5101> mean

<4160>

ye to weep <2799> and to break <4919> mine <3450> heart <2588>?

for

I am ready <2093> not to be bound <1210> only <3440>, but also

<2532> to die <599> at <1519> Jerusalem <2419> for the name

<3686>

of the Lord <2962> Jesus <2424>.

 14  And when he would not be persuaded <3982>, we ceased <2270>,

saying <2036>, The will <2307> of the Lord <2962> be done <1096>.

 15. And after <3326> those <5025> days <2250> we took <643> up

our

carriages <643>, and went <305> up to Jerusalem <2419>.

 16  There went <4905> with us also <2532> [certain] of the

disciples <3101> of Caesarea <2542>, and brought <71> with them

one

<5100> Mnason <3416> of Cyprus <2954>, an old <744> disciple

<3101>,

with whom <3739> we should lodge <3579>.

 17  And when we were come <1096> to Jerusalem <2414>, the

brethren

<80> received <1209> us gladly <780>.

 18  And the [day] following <1966> Paul <3972> went <1524> in

with

us unto James <2385>; and all <3956> the elders <4245> were

present

<3854>.

 19  And when he had saluted <782> them, he declared <1834>

particularly <2596> what <3739> things God <2316> had wrought

<4160>

among <1722> the Gentiles <1484> by his ministry <1248>.

 20  And when they heard <191> [it], they glorified <1392> the

Lord

<2962>, and said <2036> unto him, Thou seest <2334>, brother

<80>,

how <4214> many <4214> thousands <3461> of Jews <2453> there are

which <3588> believe <4100>; and they are all <3956> zealous

<2207>

of the law <3551>:

 21  And they are informed <2727> of thee, that thou teachest

<1321>

all <3956> the Jews <2453> which are among <2596> the Gentiles

<1484> to forsake <575> Moses <3475>, saying <3004> that they

ought

not to circumcise <4059> [their] children <5043>, neither <3366>

to

walk <4043> after the customs <1485>.

 22  What <5101> is it therefore <3767>? the multitude <4128>

must

<1163> needs <3843> come <4905> together <4905>: for they will

hear

<191> that thou art come <2064>.

 23  Do <4160> therefore <3767> this <5124> that we say <3004> to

thee: We have <1526> four <5064> men <435> which have <2192> a

vow

<2171> on <1909> them;

 24  Them take <3880>, and purify <48> thyself with them, and be

at

<1159> charges <1159> with them, that they may shave <3587>

[their]

heads <2776>: and all <3956> may know <1097> that those things,

whereof they were informed <2727> concerning <4012> thee, are

nothing <3762>; but [that] thou thyself <846> also <2532> walkest

<4748> orderly <4748>, and keepest <5442> the law <3551>.

 25  As touching <4012> the Gentiles <1484> which believe <4100>,

 we

have written <1989> [and] concluded <2919> that they observe

<5083>

no <3367> such <5108> thing, save <1508> only that they keep

<5442>

themselves from [things] offered <1494> to idols <1494>, and from

blood <129>, and from strangled <4156>, and from fornication

<4202>.

 26  Then <5119> Paul <3972> took <3880> the men <435>, and the

next

<2192> day <2250> purifying <48> himself with them entered <1524>

into <1519> the temple <2411>, to signify <1229> the

accomplishment

<1604> of the days <2250> of purification <49>, until <2193>

that an

offering <4376> should be offered <4374> for every <1538> one

<1520>

of them.

 27. And when <5613> the seven <2033> days <2250> were almost

<3195>

ended <4931>, the Jews <2453> which were of Asia <773>, when they

saw <2300> him in the temple <2411>, stirred <4797> up all <3956>

the people <3793>, and laid <1911> hands <5495> on <1909> him,

 28  Crying <2896> out, Men <435> of Israel <2475>, help <997>:

This

<3778> is the man <444>, that teacheth <1321> all <3956> [men]

every

<3837> where <3837> against <2596> the people <2992>, and the law

<3551>, and this <5126> place <5117>: and further <2089> brought

<1521> Greeks <1672> also <2532> into <1519> the temple <2411>,

and

hath polluted <2840> this <5127> holy <40> place <5117>.

 29  (For they had seen <4308> before <4308> with him in the city

<4172> Trophimus <5161> an Ephesian <2180>, whom <3739> they

supposed <3543> that Paul <3972> had brought <1521> into <1519>

the

temple <2411>.)

 30  And all <3650> the city <4172> was moved <2795>, and the

people

<2992> ran <4890> together <4890>: and they took <1949> Paul

<3972>,

and drew <1670> him out of the temple <2411>: and forthwith

<2112>

the doors <2374> were shut <2808>.

 31  And as they went <2212> about <2212> to kill <615> him,

tidings

<5334> came <305> unto the chief <5506> captain <5506> of the

band

<4686>, that all <3650> Jerusalem <2419> was in an uproar <4797>.

 32  Who <3739> immediately <1824> took <3880> soldiers <4757>

and

centurions <1543>, and ran <2701> down <2701> unto them: and when

they saw <1492> the chief <5506> captain <5506> and the soldiers

<4757>, they left <3973> beating <5180> of Paul <3972>.

 33  Then <5119> the chief <5506> captain <5506> came <1448> near

<1448>, and took <1949> him, and commanded <2753> [him] to be

bound

<1210> with two <1417> chains <254>; and demanded <4441> who

<5101>

he was, and what <5101> he had done <4160>.

 34  And some <243> cried <994> one thing, some <243> another

<243>,

among <1722> the multitude <3793>: and when he could <1410> not

know

<1097> the certainty <804> for the tumult <2351>, he commanded

<2753> him to be carried <71> into <1519> the castle <3925>.

 35  And when <3753> he came <1096> upon the stairs <304>, so

<4819>

it was, that he was borne <941> of the soldiers <4757> for the

violence <970> of the people <3793>.

 36  For the multitude <4128> of the people <2992> followed <190>

after, crying <2896>, Away <142> with him.

 37  And as Paul <3972> was to be led <1521> into <1519> the

castle

<3925>, he said <3004> unto the chief <5506> captain <5506>, May

<1832> I speak <2036> unto thee? Who <3588> said <5346>, Canst

<1097> thou speak <1097> Greek <1676>?

 38  Art <1488> not thou that Egyptian <124>, which before <4253>

these <5130> days <2250> madest <387> an uproar <387>, and

leddest

<1806> out into <1519> the wilderness <2048> four <5070> thousand

<5070> men <435> that were murderers <4607>?

 39  But Paul <3972> said <2036>, I am <1510> a man <444> [which

am]

a Jew <2453> of Tarsus <5018>, [a city] in Cilicia <2791>, a

citizen

<4177> of no <3756> mean <767> city <4172>: and, I beseech <1189>

thee, suffer <2010> me to speak <2980> unto the people <2992>.

 40  And when he had given him licence <2010>, Paul <3972> stood

<2476> on <1909> the stairs <304>, and beckoned <2678> with the

hand

<5495> unto the people <2992>. And when there was made <1096> a

great <4183> silence <4602>, he spake <4377> unto [them] in the

Hebrew <1446> tongue <1258>, saying <3004>,

Acts  22

 1. Men <435>, brethren <80>, and fathers <3962>, hear <191> ye

my

defence <627> [which I make] now <3568> unto you.

 2  (And when they heard <191> that he spake <4377> in the Hebrew

<1446> tongue <1258> to them, they kept <3930> the more <3123>

silence <2271>: and he saith <5346>,)

 3. I am <1510> verily <3303> a man <435> [which am] a Jew

<2453>,

born <1080> in Tarsus <5019>, [a city] in Cilicia <2791>, yet

brought <397> up in this <5026> city <4172> at <3844> the feet

<4228> of Gamaliel <1059>, [and] taught <3811> according <2596>

to

the perfect <195> manner <195> of the law <3551> of the fathers

<3971>, and was zealous <2207> toward God <2316>, as ye all

<3956>

are this <4594> day <4594>.

 4  And I persecuted <1377> this <5026> way <3598> unto the death

<2288>, binding <1195> and delivering <3860> into <1519> prisons

<5438> both <5037> men <435> and women <1135>.

 5  As also <2532> the high <749> priest <749> doth bear <3140>

me

witness <3140>, and all <3956> the estate of the elders <4244>:

from

whom <3739> also <2532> I received <1209> letters <1992> unto the

brethren <80>, and went <4198> to Damascus <1154>, to bring <71>

them which were there <1566> bound <1210> unto Jerusalem <2419>,

for

to be punished <5097>.

 6  And it came <1096> to pass, that, as I made <4198> my journey

<4198>, and was come <1448> nigh <1448> unto Damascus <1154>

about

<4012> noon <3314>, suddenly <1810> there shone <4015> from

heaven

<3772> a great <2425> light <5457> round <4015> about <4012> me.

 7  And I fell <4098> unto the ground <1475>, and heard <191> a

voice <5456> saying <3004> unto me, Saul <4569>, Saul <4569>, why

<5101> persecutest <1377> thou me?

 8  And I answered <611>, Who <5101> art <1488> thou, Lord

<2962>?

And he said <2036> unto me, I am <1510> Jesus <2424> of Nazareth

<3478>, whom <3739> thou persecutest <1377>.

 9  And they that were with me saw <2300> indeed <3303> the light

<5457>, and were afraid <1719>; but they heard <191> not the

voice

<5456> of him that spake <2980> to me.

 10  And I said <2036>, What <5101> shall I do <4160>, Lord

<2962>?

And the Lord <2962> said <2036> unto me, Arise <450>, and go

<4198>

into <1519> Damascus <1154>; and there <1563> it shall be told

<2980> thee of all <3956> things which <3739> are appointed

<5021>

for thee to do <4160>.

 11  And when <5613> I could not see <1689> for the glory <1391>

of

that light <5457>, being led <5496> by the hand <5496> of them

that

were with me, I came <2064> into <1519> Damascus <1154>.

 12  And one <5100> Ananias <367>, a devout <2152> man <435>

according <2596> to the law <3551>, having a good report <3140>

of

all <3956> the Jews <2453> which dwelt <2730> [there],

 13  Came <2064> unto me, and stood <2186>, and said <2036> unto

me,

Brother <80> Saul <4569>, receive <308> thy sight <308>. And the

same <846> hour <5610> I looked <308> up upon him.

 14  And he said <2036>, The God <2316> of our fathers <3962>

hath

chosen <4400> thee, that thou shouldest know <1097> his will

<2307>,

and see <1492> that Just <1342> One, and shouldest hear <191> the

voice <5456> of his mouth <4750>.

 15  For thou shalt be his witness <3144> unto all <3956> men

<444>

of what <3739> thou hast seen <3708> and heard <191>.

 16  And now <3568> why <5101> tarriest <3195> thou? arise <450>,

and be baptized <907>, and wash <628> away <628> thy sins <266>,

calling <1941> on <1941> the name <3686> of the Lord <2962>.

 17  And it came <1096> to pass, that, when I was come <5290>

again

<5290> to Jerusalem <2419>, even while I prayed <4336> in the

temple

<2411>, I was in a trance <1611>;

 18  And saw <1492> him saying <3004> unto me, Make <4692> haste

<4692>, and get <1831> thee quickly <5034> out of Jerusalem

<2419>:

for they will not receive <3858> thy testimony <3141> concerning

<4012> me.

 19  And I said <2036>, Lord <2962>, they know <1987> that I

imprisoned <5439> and beat <1194> in every <2596> synagogue

<4864>

them that believed <4100> on <1909> thee:

 20  And when <3753> the blood <129> of thy martyr <3144> Stephen

<4736> was shed <1632>, I also <2532> was standing <2186> by, and

consenting <4909> unto his death <336>, and kept <5442> the

raiment

<2440> of them that slew <337> him.

 21  And he said <2036> unto me, Depart <4198>: for I will send

<1821> thee far <3112> hence <1821> unto the Gentiles <1484>.

 22. And they gave him audience <191> unto this <5127> word

<3056>,

and [then] lifted <1869> up their voices <5456>, and said <3004>,

Away <142> with such <5108> a [fellow] from the earth <1093>:

for it

is not fit <2520> that he should live <2198>.

 23  And as they cried <2905> out, and cast <4496> off <4496>

[their] clothes <2440>, and threw <906> dust <2868> into <1519>

the

air <109>,

 24  The chief <5506> captain <5506> commanded <2753> him to be

brought <71> into <1519> the castle <3925>, and bade <2036> that

he

should be examined <426> by scourging <3148>; that he might know

<1921> wherefore <3739> they cried <2019> so <3779> against

<2019>

him.

 25  And as they bound <4385> him with thongs <2438>, Paul <3972>

said <2036> unto the centurion <1543> that stood <2476> by, Is it

lawful <1832> for you to scourge <3147> a man <444> that is a

Roman

<4514>, and uncondemned <178>?

 26  When the centurion <1543> heard <191> [that], he went <4334>

and told <518> the chief <5506> captain <5506>, saying <3004>,

Take

heed <3708> what <5101> thou doest <4160>: for this <3778> man

<444>

is a Roman <4514>.

 27  Then <1161> the chief <5506> captain <5506> came <4334>, and

said <2036> unto him, Tell <3004> me, art <1488> thou a Roman

<4514>? He said <5346>, Yea <3483>.

 28  And the chief <5506> captain <5506> answered <611>, With a

great <4183> sum <2774> obtained <2932> I this <5026> freedom

<4174>. And Paul <3972> said <5346>, But I was [free] born

<1080>.

 29  Then <3767> straightway <2112> they departed <868> from him

which <3588> should <3195> have examined <426> him: and the chief

<5506> captain <5506> also <2532> was afraid <5399>, after he

knew

<1921> that he was a Roman <4514>, and because <3754> he had

bound

<1210> him.

 30  On the morrow <1887>, because he would have known <1097> the

certainty <804> wherefore <5101> he was accused <2723> of the

Jews

<2453>, he loosed <3089> him from [his] bands <1199>, and

commanded

<2753> the chief <749> priests <749> and all <3650> their council

<4892> to appear <2064>, and brought <2609> Paul <3972> down

<2609>,

and set <2476> him before <1519> them.

Acts  23

 1. And Paul <3972>, earnestly <816> beholding <816> the council

<4892>, said <2036>, Men <435> [and] brethren <80>, I have lived

<4176> in all <3956> good <18> conscience <4893> before God

<2316>

until <891> this <5026> day <2250>.

 2  And the high <749> priest <749> Ananias <367> commanded

<2004>

them that stood <3936> by him to smite <5180> him on the mouth

<4750>.

 3  Then <5119> said <2036> Paul <3972> unto him, God <2316>

shall

smite <5180> thee, [thou] whited <2867> wall <5109>: for sittest

<2521> thou to judge <2919> me after <2596> the law <3551>, and

commandest <2753> me to be smitten <5180> contrary <3891> to the

law

<3891>?

 4  And they that stood <3936> by said <2036>, Revilest <3058>

thou

God's <2316> high <749> priest <749>?

 5  Then <5037> said <5346> Paul <3972>, I wist <1492> not,

brethren

<80>, that he was the high <749> priest <749>: for it is written

<1125>, Thou shalt not speak <2046> evil <2560> of the ruler

<758>

of thy people <2992>.

 6. But when Paul <3972> perceived <1097> that the one <1520>

part

<3313> were Sadducees <4523>, and the other <2087> Pharisees

<5330>,

he cried <2896> out in the council <4892>, Men <435> [and]

brethren

<80>, I am <1510> a Pharisee <5330>, the son <5207> of a Pharisee

<5330>: of the hope <1680> and resurrection <386> of the dead

<3498>

I am called <2919> in question <2919>.

 7  And when he had so <5124> said <2980>, there arose <1096> a

dissension <4714> between the Pharisees <5330> and the Sadducees

<4523>: and the multitude <4128> was divided <4977>.

 8  For the Sadducees <4523> say <3004> that there is no <3361>

resurrection <386>, neither <3366> angel <32>, nor <3383> spirit

<4151>: but the Pharisees <5330> confess <3670> both <297>.

 9  And there arose <1096> a great <3173> cry <2906>: and the

scribes <1122> [that were] of the Pharisees <5330>' part <3313>

arose <450>, and strove <1264>, saying <3004>, We find <2147> no

<3762> evil <2556> in this <5129> man <444>: but if <1487> a

spirit

<4151> or <2228> an angel <32> hath spoken <2980> to him, let us

not

fight <2313> against God <2313>.

 10  And when there arose <1096> a great <4183> dissension

<4714>,

the chief <5506> captain <5506>, fearing <2125> lest <3361> Paul

<3972> should have been pulled <1288> in pieces <1288> of them,

commanded <2753> the soldiers <4753> to go <2597> down <2597>,

and

to take <726> him by force <726> from among <3319> them, and to

bring <71> [him] into <1519> the castle <3925>.

 11  And the night <3571> following the Lord <2962> stood <2186>

by

him, and said <2036>, Be of good cheer <2293>, Paul <3972>: for

as

thou hast testified <1263> of me in Jerusalem <2419>, so <3779>

must

<1163> thou bear <3140> witness <3140> also <2532> at <1519> Rome

<4516>.

 12. And when it was day <2250>, certain <5100> of the Jews

<2453>

banded <4963> together <4966>, and bound <332> themselves <1438>

under <332> a curse <332>, saying <3004> that they would neither

<3383> eat <5315> nor drink <4095> till <2193> they had killed

<615>

Paul <3972>.

 13  And they were more <4119> than forty <5062> which <3588> had

made <4160> this <5026> conspiracy <4945>.

 14  And they came <4334> to the chief <749> priests <749> and

elders <4245>, and said <2036>, We have bound <332> ourselves

<1438>

under <332> a great curse <332>, that we will eat <1089> nothing

<3367> until <2193> we have slain <615> Paul <3972>.

 15  Now <3568> therefore <3767> ye with the council <4892>

signify

<1718> to the chief <5506> captain <5506> that he bring <2609>

him

down <2609> unto you to morrow <839>, as though ye would <3195>

enquire <1231> something more <197> perfectly <197> concerning

<4012> him: and we, or <4253> ever <4253> he come <1448> near

<1448>, are ready <2092> to kill <337> him.

 16  And when Paul's <3972> sister's <79> son <5207> heard <191>

of

their lying in wait <1747>, he went <3854> and entered <1525>

into

<1519> the castle <3925>, and told <518> Paul <3972>.

 17  Then <1161> Paul <3972> called <4341> one <1520> of the

centurions <1543> unto [him], and said <5346>, Bring <520> this

<5126> young <3494> man <3494> unto the chief <5506> captain

<5506>:

for he hath <2192> a certain <5100> thing to tell <518> him.

 18  So <3767> he took <3880> him, and brought <71> [him] to the

chief <5506> captain <5506>, and said <5346>, Paul <3972> the

prisoner <1198> called <4341> me unto [him], and prayed <2065>

me to

bring <71> this <5126> young <3494> man <3494> unto thee, who

hath

<2192> something <5100> to say <2980> unto thee.

 19  Then <1161> the chief <5506> captain <5506> took <1949> him

by

the hand <5495>, and went <402> [with him] aside <402> privately

<2398>, and asked <2065> [him], What <5101> is that thou hast

<2192>

to tell <518> me?

 20  And he said <2036>, The Jews <2453> have agreed <4934> to

desire <2065> thee that thou wouldest bring <2609> down <2609>

Paul

<3972> to morrow <839> into <1519> the council <4892>, as though

they would <3195> enquire <4441> somewhat <5100> of him more

<197>

perfectly <197>.

 21  But do not thou yield <3982> unto them: for there lie in

wait

<1748> for him of them more <4119> than forty <5062> men <435>,

which <3748> have bound <332> themselves <1438> with an oath

<332>,

that they will neither <3383> eat <5315> nor drink <4095> till

<2193> they have killed <337> him: and now <3568> are they ready

<2092>, looking <4327> for a promise <1860> from thee.

 22  So <3767> the chief <5506> captain <5506> [then] let <630>

the

young <3494> man <3494> depart <630>, and charged <3853> [him,

See

thou] tell <1583> no <3367> man <3367> that thou hast shewed

<1718>

these <5023> things to me.

 23  And he called <4341> unto [him] two <1417> centurions

<1543>,

saying <2036>, Make <2090> ready <2090> two <1250> hundred <1250>

soldiers <4757> to go <4198> to Caesarea <2542>, and horsemen

<2460>

threescore <1440> and ten, and spearmen <1187> two <1250> hundred

<1250>, at <575> the third <5154> hour <5610> of the night

<3571>;

 24  And provide <3936> [them] beasts <2934>, that they may set

<1913> Paul <3972> on <1913>, and bring <1295> [him] safe <1295>

unto Felix <5344> the governor <2232>.

 25  And he wrote <1125> a letter <1992> after <4023> this <5126>

manner <5179>:

 26  Claudius <2804> Lysias <3079> unto the most <2903> excellent

<2903> governor <2232> Felix <5344> [sendeth] greeting <5463>.

 27  This <5126> man <435> was taken <4815> of the Jews <2453>,

and

should <3195> have been killed <615> of them: then came <2186> I

with an army <4753>, and rescued <1807> him, having understood

<3129> that he was a Roman <4514>.

 28  And when I would have known <1097> the cause <156> wherefore

<3739> they accused <1458> him, I brought <2609> him forth <2609>

into <1519> their council <4892>:

 29  Whom <3739> I perceived <2147> to be accused <1458> of

questions <2213> of their law <3551>, but to have <2192> nothing

<3367> laid <1462> to his charge <1462> worthy <514> of death

<336>

or <2228> of bonds <1199>.

 30  And when it was told <3377> me how that the Jews <2453> laid

<2071> wait <1917> for the man <435>, I sent <3992> straightway

<1824> to thee, and gave commandment <3853> to his accusers

<2725>

also <2532> to say <3004> before <1909> thee what <3588> [they

had]

against <4314> him. Farewell <4517>.

 31  Then <3767> the soldiers <4757>, as it was commanded <1299>

them, took <353> Paul <3972>, and brought <71> [him] by night

<3571>

to Antipatris <494>.

 32  On the morrow <1887> they left <1439> the horsemen <2460>

to go

<4198> with him, and returned <5290> to the castle <3925>:

 33  Who <3748>, when they came <1525> to Caesarea <2542>, and

delivered <325> the epistle <1992> to the governor <2232>,

presented

<3936> Paul <3972> also <2532> before him.

 34  And when the governor <2232> had read <314> [the letter], he

asked <1905> of what <4169> province <1885> he was. And when he

understood <4441> that [he was] of Cilicia <2791>;

 35  I will hear <1251> thee, said <5346> he, when <3752> thine

<4675> accusers <2725> are also <2532> come <3854>. And he

commanded

<2753> him to be kept <5442> in Herod's <2264> judgment <4232>

hall

<4232>.

Acts  24

 1. And after <3326> five <4002> days <2250> Ananias <367> the

high

<749> priest <749> descended <2597> with the elders <4245>, and

[with] a certain <5100> orator <4489> [named] Tertullus <5061>,

who

<3748> informed <1718> the governor <2232> against <2596> Paul

<3972>.

 2  And when he was called <2564> forth <2564>, Tertullus <5061>

began <756> to accuse <2723> [him], saying <3004>, Seeing that by

thee we enjoy <5177> great <4183> quietness <1515>, and that very

<2735> worthy <2735> deeds <2735> are done <1096> unto this

<5129>

nation <1484> by thy providence <4307>,

 3  We accept <588> [it] always <3839>, and in all <3837> places

<3837>, most <2903> noble <2903> Felix <5344>, with all <3956>

thankfulness <2169>.

 4  Notwithstanding, that I be not further <4208> tedious <1465>

unto thee, I pray <3870> thee that thou wouldest hear <191> us of

thy clemency <1932> a few <4935> words.

 5  For we have found <2147> this <5126> man <435> [a] pestilent

<3061> [fellow], and a mover <2795> of sedition <4714> among all

<3956> the Jews <2453> throughout <2596> the world <3625>, and a

ringleader <4414> of the sect <139> of the Nazarenes <3480>:

 6  Who <3739> also <2532> hath gone <3985> about <3985> to

profane

<953> the temple <2411>: whom <3739> we took <2902>, and would

<2309> have judged <2919> according <2596> to our law <3551>.

 7  But the chief <5506> captain <5506> Lysias <3079> came <3928>

[upon us], and with great <4183> violence <970> took <520> [him]

away <520> out of our hands <5495>,

 8  Commanding <2753> his accusers <2725> to come <2064> unto

thee:

by examining <350> of whom <3739> thyself <846> mayest take

knowledge <1921> of all <3956> these <5130> things, whereof

<3739>

we accuse <2723> him.

 9  And the Jews <2453> also <2532> assented <4934>, saying

<5335>

that these <5023> things were so <3779>.

 10. Then <1161> Paul <3972>, after that the governor <2232> had

beckoned <3506> unto him to speak <3004>, answered <611>,

Forasmuch

as I know <1987> that thou hast been <5607> of many <4183> years

<2094> a judge <2923> unto this <5129> nation <1484>, I do the

more

<2115> cheerfully <2115> answer <626> for myself <1683>:

 11  Because that thou mayest understand <1097>, that there are

yet

but twelve <1177> days <2250> since <3739> I went <305> up to

Jerusalem <2419> for to worship <4352>.

 12  And they neither <3777> found <2147> me in the temple <2411>

disputing <1256> with any <5100> man, neither <2228> raising

<1999>

up the people <3793>, neither <2228> in the synagogues <4864>,

nor

<3777> in the city <4172>:

 13  Neither <2228> can <1410> they prove <3936> the things

whereof

<3739> they now <3568> accuse <2723> me.

 14  But this <5124> I confess <3670> unto thee, that after

<2596>

the way <3598> which <3739> they call <3004> heresy <139>, so

<3779>

worship <3000> I the God <2316> of my fathers <3971>, believing

<4100> all <3956> things which <3588> are written <1125> in the

law

<3551> and in the prophets <4396>:

 15  And have <2192> hope <1680> toward <1519> God <2316>, which

<3739> they themselves <846> also <2532> allow <4327>, that there

shall be a resurrection <386> of the dead <3498>, both <5037> of

the

just <1342> and unjust <94>.

 16  And herein <5129> do I exercise <778> myself, to have <2192>

always <1275> a conscience <4893> void <677> of offence <677>

toward

<4314> God <2316>, and [toward] men <444>.

 17  Now <1161> after <1223> many <4119> years <2094> I came

<3854>

to bring <4160> alms <1654> to my nation <1484>, and offerings

<4376>.

 18  Whereupon <3739> certain <5100> Jews <2453> from Asia <773>

found <2147> me purified <48> in the temple <2411>, neither

<3756>

with multitude <3793>, nor <3761> with tumult <2351>.

 19  Who <3739> ought <1163> to have been <3918> here <3918>

before

<1909> thee, and object <2723>, if <1487> they had <2192> ought

<5100> against <4314> me.

 20  Or <2228> else let these <3778> same <3778> [here] say

<2036>,

if <1487> they have found <2147> any <1536> evil <92> doing <92>

in

me, while I stood <2476> before <1909> the council <4892>,

 21  Except <2228> it be for this <5026> one <3391> voice <5456>,

that I cried <2896> standing <2476> among <1722> them, Touching

<4012> the resurrection <386> of the dead <3498> I am called

<2919>

in question <2919> by you this <4594> day <4594>.

 22. And when Felix <5344> heard <191> these <5023> things,

having

more <197> perfect <197> knowledge <1492> of [that] way <3598>,

he

deferred <306> them, and said <2036>, When <3752> Lysias <3079>

the

chief <5506> captain <5506> shall come <2597> down <2597>, I will

know <1231> the uttermost <2556> of your <5209> matter <2596>.

 23  And he commanded <1299> a centurion <1543> to keep <5083>

Paul

<3972>, and to let [him] have <2192> liberty <425>, and that he

should forbid <2967> none <3367> of his acquaintance <2398> to

minister <5256> or <2228> come <4334> unto him.

 24  And after <3326> certain <5100> days <2250>, when Felix

<5344>

came <3854> with his wife <1135> Drusilla <1409>, which was a

Jewess

<2453>, he sent <3343> for Paul <3972>, and heard <191> him

concerning <4012> the faith <4102> in Christ <5547>.

 25  And as he reasoned <1256> of righteousness <1343>,

temperance

<1466>, and judgment <2917> to come <1511>, Felix <5344> trembled

<1096>, and answered <611>, Go <4198> thy way for this <3568>

time

<3568>; when I have <3335> a convenient <2540> season <2540>, I

will

call <3333> for thee.

 26  He hoped <1679> also <2532> that money <5536> should have

been

given <1325> him of Paul <3972>, that he might loose <3089> him:

wherefore <1352> he sent <3343> for him the oftener <4437>, and

communed <3656> with him.

 27  But after <4137> two <1333> years <1333> Porcius <4201>

Festus

<5347> came <1240> into Felix <5344>' room <1240>: and Felix

<5344>,

willing <2309> to shew <2698> the Jews <2453> a pleasure <5485>,

left <2641> Paul <3972> bound <1210>.

Acts  25

 1. Now <3767> when Festus <5347> was come <1910> into the

province

<1885>, after <3326> three <5140> days <2250> he ascended <305>

from

Caesarea <2542> to Jerusalem <2414>.

 2  Then <1161> the high <749> priest <749> and the chief <4413>

of

the Jews <2453> informed <1718> him against <2596> Paul <3972>,

and

besought <3870> him,

 3  And desired <154> favour <5485> against <2596> him, that he

would send <3343> for him to Jerusalem <2419>, laying <4160> wait

<1747> in the way <3598> to kill <337> him.

 4  But Festus <5347> answered <611>, that Paul <3972> should be

kept <5083> at <1722> Caesarea <2542>, and that he himself <1438>

would <3195> depart <1607> shortly <5034> [thither].

 5  Let them therefore <3767>, said <5346> he, which among <1722>

you are able <1415>, go <4782> down <4782> with [me], and accuse

<2723> this <846> man <435>, if <1487> there be any <1536>

wickedness <824> in him.

 6  And when he had tarried <1304> among <1722> them more <4119>

than <2228> ten <1176> days <2250>, he went <2597> down <2597>

unto

Caesarea <2542>; and the next <1887> day <1887> sitting <2523> on

<1909> the judgment <968> seat <968> commanded <2753> Paul

<3972> to

be brought <71>.

 7  And when he was come <3854>, the Jews <2453> which came

<2597>

down <2597> from Jerusalem <2414> stood <4026> round <4026> about

<3936>, and laid <5342> many <4183> and grievous <926> complaints

<157> against <2596> Paul <3972>, which <3588> they could <2480>

not

prove <584>.

 8  While he answered <626> for himself, Neither <3777> against

<1519> the law <3551> of the Jews <2453>, neither <3777> against

<1519> the temple <2411>, nor <3777> yet against <1519> Caesar

<2541>, have I offended <264> any <5100> thing at all.

 9  But Festus <5347>, willing <2309> to do <2698> the Jews

<2453> a

pleasure <5485>, answered <611> Paul <3972>, and said <2036>,

Wilt

thou go <305> up to Jerusalem <2414>, and there <1563> be judged

<2919> of these <5130> things before <1909> me?

 10  Then <1161> said <2036> Paul <3972>, I stand <2476> at

<1909>

Caesar's <2541> judgment <968> seat <968>, where <3757> I ought

<1163> to be judged <2919>: to the Jews <2453> have I done <91>

no

<3762> wrong <91>, as thou very <2566> well <2573> knowest

<1921>.

 11  For if <1487> I be an offender <91>, or <2532> have

committed

<4238> any <5100> thing worthy <514> of death <336>, I refuse

<3868>

not to die <599>: but if <1487> there be none <3762> of these

things

whereof <3739> these <3778> accuse <2723> me, no <3762> man

<3762>

may <1410> deliver <5483> me unto them. I appeal <1941> unto

Caesar

<2541>.

 12  Then <5119> Festus <5347>, when he had conferred <4814> with

the council <4824>, answered <611>, Hast thou appealed <1941>

unto

Caesar <2541>? unto Caesar <2541> shalt thou go <4198>.

 13. And after <1230> certain <5100> days <2250> king <935>

Agrippa

<67> and Bernice <959> came <2658> unto Caesarea <2542> to salute

<782> Festus <5347>.

 14  And when <5613> they had been <1304> there <1563> many

<4119>

days <2250>, Festus <5347> declared <394> Paul's <3972> cause

<2596>

unto the king <935>, saying <3004>, There is a certain <5100> man

<435> left <2641> in bonds <1198> by Felix <5344>:

 15  About <4012> whom <3739>, when I was at <1519> Jerusalem

<2414>, the chief <749> priests <749> and the elders <4245> of

the

Jews <2453> informed <1718> [me], desiring <154> [to have]

judgment

<1349> against <2596> him.

 16  To whom <3739> I answered <611>, It is not the manner

<1485> of

the Romans <4514> to deliver <5483> any <5100> man <444> to die

<684>, before <4250> that he which is accused <2723> have <2192>

the

accusers <2725> face <4383> to face <4383>, and have <2983>

licence

<5117> to answer <627> for himself concerning <4012> the crime

<1462> laid <1462> against him.

 17  Therefore <3767>, when they were come <4905> hither <1759>,

without <4160> any <3362> delay <311> on <1909> the morrow

<1836> I

sat <2523> on <1909> the judgment <968> seat <968>, and commanded

<2753> the man <435> to be brought <71> forth.

 18  Against <4012> whom <3739> when the accusers <2725> stood

<2476> up, they brought <2018> none <3762> accusation <156> of

such

things as I supposed <5282>:

 19  But had <2192> certain <5100> questions <2213> against

<4314>

him of their own <2398> superstition <1175>, and of one <5100>

Jesus

<2424>, which was dead <2348>, whom <3739> Paul <3972> affirmed

<5335> to be alive <2198>.

 20  And because I doubted <639> of such manner <4012> of

questions

<2214>, I asked <3004> [him] whether <1487> he would go <4198> to

Jerusalem <2419>, and there <1563> be judged <2919> of these

<5130>

matters.

 21  But when Paul <3972> had appealed <1941> to be reserved

<5083>

unto the hearing <1233> of Augustus <828>, I commanded <2753>

him to

be kept <5083> till <2193> I might send <3992> him to Caesar

<2541>.

 22  Then <1161> Agrippa <67> said <5346> unto Festus <5347>, I

would also <2532> hear <191> the man <444> myself. To morrow

<839>,

said <5346> he, thou shalt hear <191> him.

 23  And on the morrow <1887>, when Agrippa <67> was come <2064>,

and Bernice <959>, with great <4183> pomp <5325>, and was entered

<1525> into <1519> the place <201> of hearing <201>, with the

chief

<5506> captains <5506>, and principal <1851> men <435> of the

city

<4172>, at Festus <5347>' commandment <2753> Paul <3972> was

brought

<71> forth.

 24  And Festus <5347> said <5346>, King <935> Agrippa <67>, and

all

<3956> men <435> which <3588> are here <4840> present <4840> with

us, ye see <2334> this <5126> man, about <4012> whom <3739> all

<3956> the multitude <4128> of the Jews <2453> have dealt <1793>

with me, both <5037> at <1722> Jerusalem <2414>, and [also] here

<1759>, crying <1916> that he ought <1163> not to live <2198> any

<3371> longer <3371>.

 25  But when I found <2638> that he had committed <4238> nothing

<3367> worthy <514> of death <336>, and that he himself <848>

hath

appealed <1941> to Augustus <828>, I have determined <2919> to

send

<3992> him.

 26  Of whom <3739> I have <2192> no <3756> certain <804> thing

to

write <1125> unto my lord <2962>. Wherefore <1352> I have brought

<4254> him forth <4254> before <1909> you, and specially <3122>

before <1909> thee, O king <935> Agrippa <67>, that, after

examination <351> had <1096>, I might have <2192> somewhat

<5100> to

write <1125>.

 27  For it seemeth <1380> to me unreasonable <249> to send

<3992> a

prisoner <1198>, and not withal to signify <4591> the crimes

<156>

[laid] against <2596> him.

Acts  26

 1. Then <1161> Agrippa <67> said <5346> unto Paul <3972>, Thou

art

permitted <2010> to speak <3004> for thyself <4572>. Then <5119>

Paul <3972> stretched <1614> forth <1614> the hand <5495>, and

answered <626> for himself:

 2  I think <2233> myself <1683> happy <3107>, king <935> Agrippa

<67>, because I shall answer <626> for myself this <4594> day

<4594>

before <1909> thee touching <4012> all <3956> the things whereof

<3739> I am accused <1458> of the Jews <2453>:

 3  Especially <3122> [because I know] thee to be expert <1109>

in

all <3956> customs <1485> and questions <2213> which are among

<2596> the Jews <2453>: wherefore <1352> I beseech <1189> thee to

hear <191> me patiently <3116>.

 4  My manner <981> of life <981> from my youth <3503>, which

<3588>

was at <575> the first <746> among <1722> mine <3450> own nation

<1484> at <1722> Jerusalem <2414>, know <2467> all <3956> the

Jews

<2453>;

 5  Which knew <4267> me from the beginning <509>, if <1437> they

would <2309> testify <3140>, that after <2596> the most straitest

<196> sect <139> of our religion <2356> I lived <2198> a Pharisee

<5330>.

 6  And now <3568> I stand <2476> and am judged <2919> for the

hope

<1680> of the promise <1860> made <1096> of God <2316> unto our

fathers <3962>:

 7  Unto which <3739> [promise] our twelve <1429> tribes <1429>,

instantly <1616> serving <3000> [God] day <2250> and night

<3571>,

hope <1679> to come <2658>. For which <3739> hope's <1679> sake,

king <935> Agrippa <67>, I am accused <1458> of the Jews <2453>.

 8  Why <5101> should it be thought <2919> a thing incredible

<571>

with you, that God <2316> should raise <1453> the dead <3498>?

 9  I verily <3767> thought <1380> with myself <1683>, that I

ought

<1163> to do <4238> many <4183> things contrary <1727> to the

name

<3686> of Jesus <2424> of Nazareth <3478>.

 10  Which <3739> thing I also <2532> did <4160> in Jerusalem

<2414>: and many <4183> of the saints <40> did I shut <2623> up

in

prison <5438>, having received <2983> authority <1849> from the

chief <749> priests <749>; and when they were put <337> to death

<337>, I gave <2702> my voice <5586> against <2702> [them].

 11  And I punished <5097> them oft <4178> in every <3956>

synagogue

<4864>, and compelled <315> [them] to blaspheme <987>; and being

exceedingly <4057> mad <1693> against <1693> them, I persecuted

<1377> [them] even <2532> unto strange <1854> cities <4172>.

 12. Whereupon <3739> as I went <4198> to Damascus <1154> with

authority <1849> and commission <2011> from the chief <749>

priests

<749>,

 13  At midday <3319>, O king <935>, I saw <1492> in the way

<3598>

a light <5457> from heaven <3771>, above <5228> the brightness

<2987> of the sun <2246>, shining <4034> round <4034> about

<4034>

me and them which journeyed <4198> with me.

 14  And when we were all <3956> fallen <2667> to the earth

<1093>,

I heard <191> a voice <5456> speaking <2980> unto me, and saying

<3004> in the Hebrew <1446> tongue <1258>, Saul <4569>, Saul

<4569>,

why <5101> persecutest <1377> thou me? [it is] hard <4642> for

thee

to kick <2979> against <4314> the pricks <2759>.

 15  And I said <2036>, Who <5101> art <1488> thou, Lord <2962>?

And

he said <2036>, I am <1510> Jesus <2424> whom <3739> thou

persecutest <1377>.

 16  But rise <450>, and stand <2476> upon thy feet <4228>: for I

have appeared <3700> unto thee for this <5124> purpose, to make

<4400> thee a minister <5257> and a witness <3144> both <5037> of

these things which <3739> thou hast seen <1492>, and of those

things

in the which <3739> I will appear <3700> unto thee;

 17  Delivering <1807> thee from the people <2992>, and [from]

the

Gentiles <1484>, unto whom <3739> now <3568> I send <649> thee,

 18  To open <455> their eyes <3788>, [and] to turn <1994> [them]

from darkness <4655> to light <5457>, and [from] the power

<1849> of

Satan <4567> unto God <2316>, that they may receive <2983>

forgiveness <859> of sins <266>, and inheritance <2819> among

<1722>

them which are sanctified <37> by faith <4102> that is in me.

 19  Whereupon <3606>, O king <935> Agrippa <67>, I was not

disobedient <545> unto the heavenly <3770> vision <3705>:

 20  But shewed <518> first <4412> unto them of Damascus <1154>,

and

at Jerusalem <2414>, and throughout <1519> all <3956> the coasts

<5561> of Judaea <2449>, and [then] to the Gentiles <1484>, that

they should repent <3340> and turn <1994> to God <2316>, and do

<4238> works <2041> meet <514> for repentance <3341>.

 21  For these <5130> causes <1752> the Jews <2453> caught

<4815> me

in the temple <2411>, and went <3987> about <3985> to kill <1315>

[me].

 22  Having therefore <3767> obtained <5177> help <1947> of God

<2316>, I continue <2476> unto this <5026> day <2250>, witnessing

<3140> both <5037> to small <3398> and great <3173>, saying

<3004>

none <3762> other <1622> things than those which <3739> the

prophets

<4396> and Moses <3475> did say <2980> should <3195> come <1096>:

 23  That Christ <5547> should suffer <3805>, [and] that he

should

be the first <4413> that should <3195> rise <386> from the dead

<3498>, and should shew <2605> light <5457> unto the people

<2992>,

and to the Gentiles <1484>.

 24. And as he thus <5023> spake <626> for himself, Festus <5347>

said <5346> with a loud <3173> voice <5456>, Paul <3972>, thou

art

beside <3105> thyself; much <4183> learning <1121> doth make

<4062>

thee mad <3130>.

 25  But he said <5346>, I am not mad <3105>, most <2903> noble

<2903> Festus <5347>; but speak <669> forth <669> the words

<4487>

of truth <225> and soberness <4997>.

 26  For the king <935> knoweth <1987> of these <5130> things,

before <4314> whom <3739> also <2532> I speak <2980> freely

<3955>:

for I am persuaded <3982> that none <3762> of these <5130> things

are hidden <2990> from him; for this <5124> thing was not done

<4238> in a corner <1137>.

 27  King <935> Agrippa <67>, believest <4100> thou the prophets

<4396>? I know <1492> that thou believest <4100>.

 28  Then <1161> Agrippa <67> said <5346> unto Paul <3972>,

Almost

<3641> thou persuadest <3982> me to be a Christian <5546>.

 29  And Paul <3972> said <2036>, I would <2172> to God <2316>,

that

not only <3440> thou, but also <2532> all <3956> that hear <191>

me

this <4594> day <4594>, were both <2532> almost <3641>, and

altogether <4183> such <5108> as I am <1510>, except <3923> these

<5130> bonds <1199>.

 30  And when he had thus <5023> spoken <2036>, the king <935>

rose

<450> up, and the governor <2232>, and Bernice <959>, and they

that

sat <4775> with them:

 31  And when they were gone <402> aside <402>, they talked

<2980>

between <4314> themselves <240>, saying <3004>, This <3778> man

<444> doeth <4238> nothing <3762> worthy <514> of death <2288> or

<2228> of bonds <1199>.

 32  Then <1161> said <5346> Agrippa <67> unto Festus <5347>,

This

<3778> man <444> might <1410> have been <1096> set <630> at <630>

liberty <630>, if <1487> he had not appealed <1941> unto Caesar

<2541>.

Acts  27

 1. And when <5613> it was determined <2919> that we should sail

<636> into <1519> Italy <2482>, they delivered <3860> Paul <3972>

and certain <5100> other <2087> prisoners <1202> unto [one] named

<3686> Julius <2457>, a centurion <1543> of Augustus <828>' band

<4686>.

 2  And entering <1910> into a ship <4143> of Adramyttium <98>,

we

launched <321>, meaning <3195> to sail <4126> by the coasts

<5117>

of Asia <773>; [one] Aristarchus <708>, a Macedonian <3110> of

Thessalonica <2331>, being <5607> with us.

 3  And the next <2087> [day] we touched <2609> at <1519> Sidon

<4605>. And Julius <2457> courteously <5364> entreated <5530>

Paul

<3972>, and gave <2010> [him] liberty <2010> to go <4198> unto

his

friends <5384> to refresh <5177> himself.

 4  And when we had launched <321> from thence <1564>, we sailed

<5284> under <5284> Cyprus <2954>, because <1223> the winds <417>

were contrary <1727>.

 5  And when we had sailed <1277> over <1277> the sea <3989> of

Cilicia <2791> and Pamphylia <3828>, we came <2718> to Myra

<3460>,

[a city] of Lycia <3073>.

 6  And there <1563> the centurion <1543> found <2147> a ship

<4143>

of Alexandria <221> sailing <4126> into <1519> Italy <2482>; and

he

put <1688> us therein.

 7  And when we had sailed <1020> slowly <1020> many <2425> days

<2250>, and scarce <3433> were come <1096> over <2596> against

<2596> Cnidus <2834>, the wind <417> not suffering <4330> us, we

sailed <5284> under <5284> Crete <2914>, over <2596> against

<2596>

Salmone <4534>;

 8  And, hardly <3433> passing <3881> it, came <2064> unto a

place

<5117> which is called <2564> The fair <2568> havens <2568>; nigh

<1451> whereunto <3739> was the city <4172> [of] Lasea <2996>.

 9  Now <1161> when much <2425> time <5550> was spent <1230>, and

when sailing <4144> was now <2235> dangerous <2000>, because

<1223>

the fast <3521> was now <2235> already <2235> past <3928>, Paul

<3972> admonished <3867> [them],

 10  And said <3004> unto them, Sirs <435>, I perceive <2334>

that

this <3588> voyage <4144> will <3195> be with hurt <5196> and

much

<4183> damage <2209>, not only <3440> of the lading <5414> and

ship

<4143>, but also <2532> of our lives <5590>.

 11  Nevertheless <1161> the centurion <1543> believed <3982> the

master <2942> and the owner <3490> of the ship <3490>, more

<3123>

than <2228> those <3588> things which were spoken <3004> by Paul

<3972>.

 12. And because the haven <3040> was not commodious <428> to

winter

<3915> in, the more <4119> part advised <5087> to depart <321>

thence <1564> also <2547>, if <1513> by any <4458> means <4458>

they

might <1410> attain <2658> to Phenice <5405>, [and there] to

winter

<3914>; [which is] an haven <3040> of Crete <2914>, and lieth

<991>

toward <2596> the south <3047> west <3047> and north <5566> west

<5566>.

 13  And when the south <3558> wind blew <5285> softly <5285>,

supposing <1380> that they had obtained <2902> [their] purpose

<4286>, loosing <142> [thence], they sailed <3881> close <788> by

Crete <2914>.

 14  But not long <4183> after there arose <906> against <2596>

it a

tempestuous <5189> wind <417>, called <2564> Euroclydon <2148>.

 15  And when the ship <4143> was caught <4884>, and could <1410>

not bear <503> up into the wind <417>, we let <1929> [her] drive

<1929>.

 16  And running <5295> under <5295> a certain <5100> island

<3519>

which is called <2564> Clauda <2802>, we had much <3433> work

<2480>

to come <1096> by the boat <4627>:

 17  Which <3739> when they had taken <142> up, they used <5530>

helps <996>, undergirding <5269> the ship <4143>; and, fearing

<5399> lest <3361> they should fall <1601> into <1519> the

quicksands <4950>, strake <5465> sail <4632>, and so <3779> were

driven <5342>.

 18  And we being exceedingly <4971> tossed <5492> with a tempest

<5492>, the next <1836> [day] they lightened <1546> the ship;

 19  And the third <5154> [day] we cast <4496> out with our own

<849> hands <849> the tackling <4631> of the ship <4143>.

 20  And when neither <3383> sun <2246> nor <3383> stars <798> in

many <4119> days <2250> appeared <2014>, and no <3756> small

<3641>

tempest <5494> lay <1945> on <1945> [us], all <3956> hope <1680>

that we should be saved <4982> was then <3063> taken <4014> away

<4014>.

 21. But after <5225> long <4183> abstinence <776> Paul <3972>

stood

<2476> forth in the midst <3319> of them, and said <2036>, Sirs

<435>, ye should <1163> have hearkened <3980> unto me, and not

have

loosed <321> from Crete <2914>, and to have gained <2770> this

<5026> harm <5196> and loss <2209>.

 22  And now <3568> I exhort <3867> you to be of good cheer

<2114>:

for there shall be no <3762> loss <580> of [any <3762> man's]

life

<5590> among <1537> you, but of the ship <4143>.

 23  For there stood <3936> by me this <5026> night <3571> the

angel

<32> of God <2316>, whose <3739> I am <1510>, and whom <3739> I

serve <3000>,

 24  Saying <3004>, Fear <5399> not, Paul <3972>; thou must

<1163>

be brought <3936> before <3936> Caesar <2541>: and, lo <2400>,

God

<2316> hath given <5483> thee all <3956> them that sail <4126>

with

thee.

 25  Wherefore <1352>, sirs <435>, be of good cheer <2114>: for I

believe <4100> God <2316>, that it shall be even <3779> as it was

told <2980> me.

 26  Howbeit we must <1163> be cast <1601> upon a certain <5100>

island <3520>.

 27  But when <5613> the fourteenth <5065> night <3571> was come

<1096>, as we were driven <1308> up and down <1308> in Adria

<99>,

about <2596> midnight <3571> the shipmen <3492> deemed <5282>

that

they drew <4317> near <4317> to some <5100> country <5561>;

 28  And sounded <1001>, and found <2147> [it] twenty <1501>

fathoms

<3712>: and when they had gone <1339> a little <1024> further

<1339>, they sounded <1001> again <3825>, and found <2147> [it]

fifteen <1178> fathoms <3712>.

 29  Then <5037> fearing <5399> lest <3381> we should have fallen

<1601> upon rocks <5117>, they cast <4496> four <5064> anchors

<45>

out of the stern <4403>, and wished <2172> for the day <2250>.

 30  And as the shipmen <3492> were about <2212> to flee <5343>

out

of the ship <4143>, when they had let <5465> down <5465> the boat

<4627> into <1519> the sea <2281>, under colour <4392> as though

they would <3195> have cast <1614> anchors out of the foreship

<4408>,

 31  Paul <3972> said <2036> to the centurion <1543> and to the

soldiers <4757>, Except <3362> these <3778> abide <3306> in the

ship

<4143>, ye cannot <1410> be saved <4982>.

 32  Then <5119> the soldiers <4757> cut <609> off <609> the

ropes

<4979> of the boat <4627>, and let <1439> her fall <1601> off

<1601>.

 33  And while <3739> the day <2250> was coming <1096> on, Paul

<3972> besought <3870> [them] all <537> to take <3335> meat

<5160>,

saying <3004>, This <4594> day <4594> is the fourteenth <5065>

day

<2250> that ye have tarried <4328> and continued <1300> fasting

<777>, having taken <4355> nothing <3367>.

 34  Wherefore <1352> I pray <3870> you to take <4355> [some]

meat

<5160>: for this <5124> is for your <5212> health <4991>: for

there

shall not an hair <2359> fall <4098> from the head <2776> of any

<3762> of you.

 35  And when he had thus <5023> spoken <2036>, he took <2983>

bread

<740>, and gave thanks <2168> to God <2316> in presence <1799> of

them all <3956>: and when he had broken <2806> [it], he began

<756>

to eat <2068>.

 36  Then <1161> were they all <3956> of good cheer <2114>, and

they

also <2532> took <4355> [some] meat <5160>.

 37  And we were in all <3956> in the ship <4143> two <1250>

hundred

<1250> threescore <1440> and sixteen <1803> souls <5590>.

 38  And when they had eaten <2880> enough <2880>, they lightened

<2893> the ship <4143>, and cast <1544> out the wheat <4621> into

<1519> the sea <2281>.

 39  And when <3753> it was day <2250>, they knew <1921> not the

land <1093>: but they discovered <2657> a certain <5100> creek

<2859> with a shore <123>, into <1519> the which <3739> they were

minded <1014>, if <1487> it were possible <1410>, to thrust

<1856>

in the ship <4143>.

 40  And when they had taken <4014> up the anchors <45>, they

committed <1439> [themselves] unto the sea <2281>, and loosed

<447>

the rudder <4079> bands <2202>, and hoised <1869> up the mainsail

<736> to the wind <4154>, and made <2722> toward <1519> shore

<123>.

 41  And falling <4045> into <1519> a place <5117> where <1337>

two

<1337> seas <1337> met, they ran <2027> the ship <3491> aground

<2027>; and the forepart <4408> stuck <2043> fast, and remained

<3306> unmoveable <761>, but the hinder <4403> part <4403> was

broken <3089> with the violence <970> of the waves <2949>.

 42  And the soldiers <4757>' counsel <1012> was to kill <615>

the

prisoners <1202>, lest <3361> any <5100> of them should swim

<1579>

out, and escape <1309>.

 43  But the centurion <1543>, willing <1014> to save <1295> Paul

<3972>, kept <2967> them from [their] purpose <1013>; and

commanded

<2753> that they which could <1410> swim <2860> should cast <641>

[themselves] first <4413> [into the sea], and get <1826> to land

<1093>:

 44  And the rest <3062>, some <3588> on <1909> boards <4548>,

and

some <1161> on <1909> [broken pieces] of the ship <4493>. And so

<3779> it came <1096> to pass, that they escaped <1295> all

<3956>

safe <1295> to land <1093>.

Acts  28

 1. And when they were escaped <1295>, then <5119> they knew

<1921>

that the island <3520> was called <2564> Melita <3194>.

 2  And the barbarous <915> people shewed <3930> us no <3756>

little

<5177> kindness <5363>: for they kindled <381> a fire <4443>, and

received <4355> us every <3956> one, because <1223> of the

present

<2186> rain <5205>, and because <1223> of the cold <5592>.

 3  And when Paul <3972> had gathered <4962> a bundle <4128> of

sticks <5434>, and laid <2007> [them] on <1909> the fire <4443>,

there came <1831> a viper <2191> out of the heat <2329>, and

fastened <2510> on <2510> his hand <5495>.

 4  And when <5613> the barbarians <915> saw <1492> the

[venomous]

beast <2342> hang <2910> on <1537> his hand <5495>, they said

<3004>

among <4314> themselves <846>, No doubt <3843> this <3778> man

<444>

is a murderer <5406>, whom <3739>, though he hath escaped <1295>

the

sea <2281>, yet vengeance <1349> suffereth <1439> not to live

<2198>.

 5  And he shook <660> off <660> the beast <2342> into <1519> the

fire <4442>, and felt <3958> no <3762> harm <2556>.

 6  Howbeit they looked <4328> when he should <3195> have swollen

<4092>, or <2228> fallen <2667> down <2667> dead <3498> suddenly

<869>: but after they had looked <4328> a great <4183> while, and

saw <2334> no <3367> harm <824> come <1096> to him, they changed

<3328> their minds, and said <3004> that he was a god <2316>.

 7  In the same <1565> quarters <5117> were possessions <5564> of

the chief <4413> man of the island <3520>, whose name <3686> was

Publius <4196>; who <3739> received <324> us, and lodged <3579>

us

three <5140> days <2250> courteously <5390>.

 8  And it came <1096> to pass, that the father <3962> of Publius

<4196> lay <2621> sick of a fever <4446> and of a bloody <1420>

flux

<1420>: to whom <3739> Paul <3972> entered <1525> in, and prayed

<4336>, and laid <2007> his hands <5495> on <2007> him, and

healed

<2390> him.

 9  So <3767> when this <5127> was done <1096>, others <3062>

also

<2532>, which <3588> had <2192> diseases <769> in the island

<3520>,

came <4334>, and were healed <2323>:

 10  Who <3739> also <2532> honoured <5092> us with many <4183>

honours <5091>; and when we departed <321>, they laded <2007>

[us]

with such things as were necessary <5532>.

 11. And after <3326> three <5140> months <3376> we departed

<321>

in a ship <4493> of Alexandria <221>, which had wintered <3916>

in

the isle <3520>, whose sign <3902> was Castor <1359> and Pollux

<1359>.

 12  And landing <2609> at <1519> Syracuse <4946>, we tarried

<1961>

[there] three <5140> days <2250>.

 13  And from thence <3606> we fetched a compass <4022>, and came

<2658> to Rhegium <4484>: and after <3326> one <3391> day <2250>

the

south <3558> wind blew <1920>, and we came <2064> the next <1206>

day to Puteoli <4223>:

 14  Where <3757> we found <2147> brethren <80>, and were desired

<3870> to tarry <1961> with them seven <2033> days <2250>: and so

<3779> we went <2064> toward <1519> Rome <4516>.

 15  And from thence <1564>, when the brethren <80> heard <191>

of

us, they came <1831> to meet <529> us as far <891> as Appii <675>

forum <5410>, and The three <5140> taverns <4999>: whom <3739>

when

Paul <3972> saw <1492>, he thanked <2168> God <2316>, and took

<2983> courage <2294>.

 16  And when <3753> we came <2064> to Rome <4516>, the centurion

<1543> delivered <3860> the prisoners <1198> to the captain

<4759>

of the guard <4759>: but Paul <3972> was suffered <2010> to dwell

<3306> by himself <1438> with a soldier <4757> that kept <5442>

him.

 17. And it came <1096> to pass, that after <3326> three <5140>

days

<2250> Paul <3972> called <4779> the chief <4413> of the Jews

<2453>

together <4779>: and when they were come <4905> together <4905>,

he

said <3004> unto them, Men <435> [and] brethren <80>, though I

have

committed <4160> nothing <3762> against <1727> the people <2992>,

 or

<2228> customs <1485> of our fathers <3971>, yet was I delivered

<3860> prisoner <1198> from Jerusalem <2414> into <1519> the

hands

<5495> of the Romans <4514>.

 18  Who <3748>, when they had examined <350> me, would have let

<630> [me] go <630>, because <1223> there was no <3367> cause

<156>

of death <2288> in me.

 19  But when the Jews <2453> spake <483> against <483> [it], I

was

constrained <315> to appeal <1941> unto Caesar <2541>; not that I

had <2192> ought <5100> to accuse <2723> my nation <1484> of.

 20  For this <5026> cause <156> therefore <3767> have I called

<3870> for you, to see <1492> [you], and to speak <4354> with

[you]:

because <1063> that for the hope <1680> of Israel <2474> I am

bound

<4029> with this <5026> chain <254>.

 21  And they said <2036> unto him, We neither <3777> received

<1209> letters <1121> out of Judaea <2449> concerning <4012>

thee,

neither <3777> any <5100> of the brethren <80> that came <3854>

shewed <518> or <2228> spake <2980> any <5100> harm <4190> of

thee.

 22  But we desire <515> to hear <191> of thee what <3739> thou

thinkest <5426>: for as concerning <4012> this <5026> sect <139>,

 we

know <1110> that every <3837> where <3837> it is spoken <483>

against <483>.

 23. And when they had appointed <5021> him a day <2250>, there

came

<2240> many <4119> to him into <1519> [his] lodging <3578>; to

whom

<3739> he expounded <1620> and testified <1263> the kingdom

<932> of

God <2316>, persuading <3982> them concerning <4012> Jesus

<2424>,

both <5037> out of the law <3551> of Moses <3475>, and [out of]

the

prophets <4396>, from morning <4404> till <2193> evening <2073>.

 24  And some <3588> believed <3982> the things which were spoken

<3004>, and some <3588> believed not.

 25  And when they agreed <800> not among <4314> themselves

<846>,

they departed <630>, after that Paul <3972> had spoken <2036> one

<1520> word <4487>, Well <2573> spake <2980> the Holy <40> Ghost

<4151> by Esaias <2268> the prophet <4396> unto our fathers

<3962>,

 26  Saying <3004>, Go <4198> unto this <5126> people <2992>, and

say <2036>, Hearing <189> ye shall hear <191>, and shall not

understand <4920>; and seeing <991> ye shall see <991>, and not

perceive <1492>:

 27  For the heart <2588> of this <5127> people <2992> is waxed

<3975> gross <3975>, and their ears <3775> are dull <917> of

hearing

<191>, and their eyes <3788> have they closed <2576>; lest <3379>

they should see <1492> with [their] eyes <3788>, and hear <191>

with

[their] ears <3775>, and understand <4920> with [their] heart

<2588>, and should be converted <1994>, and I should heal <2392>

them.

 28  Be it known <1110> therefore <3767> unto you, that the

salvation <4992> of God <2316> is sent <649> unto the Gentiles

<1484>, and [that] they will hear <191> it.

 29  And when he had said <2036> these <5023> words, the Jews

<2453>

departed <565>, and had <2192> great <4183> reasoning <4803>

among

<1722> themselves <1438>.

 30. And Paul <3972> dwelt <3306> two <1333> whole <3650> years

<1333> in his own <2398> hired <3410> house, and received <588>

all

<3956> that came <1531> in unto him,

 31  Preaching <2784> the kingdom <932> of God <2316>, and

teaching

<1321> those <3588> things which concern <4012> the Lord <2962>

Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>, with all <3956> confidence <3954>, no

<209> man forbidding <209> him.
