 2 For in many <4183-polus-> things we offend <4417-ptaio-> all

<0537-hapas->. If <1487-ei-> any <1536-ei tis-> man offend <4417-

ptaio-> not in word <3056-logos->, the same <3778-houtos-> [is]

a perfect <5046-teleios-> man <0435-aner->, [and] able <1415-

dunatos-> also <2532-kai-> to bridle <5469-chalinos-> the whole

<3650-holos-> body <4983-soma->.




 3 Behold <2400-idou->, we put <0906-ballo-> bits <5469-chalinos-

> in the horses <2462-hippos->' mouths <4750-stoma->, that they

may obey <3982-peitho-> us; and we turn <3329-metago-> about

<3329-metago-> their whole <3650-holos-> body <4983-soma->.




 4 Behold <2400-idou-> also <2532-kai-> the ships <4143-ploion->,

 which though [they be] so <5082-telikoutos-> great <5082-

telikoutos->, and [are] driven <1643-elauno-> of fierce <4642-

skleros-> winds <0417-anemos->, yet are they turned <3329-metago-

> about <3329-metago-> with a very <1646-elachistos-> small

<1646-elachistos-> helm <4079-pedalion->, whithersoever <0302-an-

> the governor <2116-euthuno-> listeth <1014-boo-lom-ahee->.




 5 Even <2532-kai-> so <3779-houto-> the tongue <1100-glossa->

is a little <3398-mikros-> member <3196-melos->, and boasteth

<3166-megalaucheo-> great <3166-megalaucheo-> things. Behold

<2400-idou->, how <2245-helikos-> great <2245-helikos-> a matter

<5208-hule-> a little <3641-oligos-> fire <4442-pur-> kindleth

 6 And the tongue <1100-glossa-> [is] a fire <4442-pur->, a

world <2889-kosmos-> of iniquity <0093-adikia->: so <3779-houto-

> is the tongue <1100-glossa-> among <1722-en-> our members

 7 For every <3956-pas-> kind <5449-phusis-> of beasts <2342-

therion->, and of birds <4071-peteinon->, and of serpents <2062-

herpeton->, and of things in the sea <1724-enalios->, is tamed

<1150-damazo->, and hath been tamed <1150-damazo-> of mankind

 8 But the tongue <1100-glossa-> can <1410-dunamai-> no <3762-

oudeis-> man <0444-anthropos-> tame <1150-damazo->; [it is] an

unruly <0183-akataschetos-> evil <2556-kakos->, full <3324-

mestos-> of deadly <2287-thanatephoros-> poison <2447-ios->.




 9 Therewith <0846-autos-> bless <2127-eulogeo-> we God <2316-

theos->, even the Father <3962-pater->; and therewith <0846-

autos-> curse <2672-kataraomai-> we men <0444-anthropos->, which

<3588-ho-> are made <1096-ginomai-> after <2596-kata-> the

similitude <3669-homoiosis-> of God <2316-theos->.




 10 Out of the same <0846-autos-> mouth <4750-stoma-> proceedeth

<1831-exerchomai-> blessing <2129-eulogia-> and cursing <2671-

katara->. My brethren <0080-adephos->, these <5023-tauta->

things ought <5534-chre-> not so <3779-houto-> to be.




 11 Doth a fountain <4077-pege-> send <1032-bruo-> forth <1032-

bruo-> at <1537-ek-> the same <0846-autos-> place <3692-ope->

sweet <1099-glukus-> [water] and bitter <4089-pikros->?




 12 Can <1410-dunamai-> the fig <4808-suke-> tree <4808-suke->,

my brethren <0080-adephos->, bear <4160-poieo-> olive <1636-

elaia-> berries <1636-elaia->? either <2228-e-> a vine <0288-

ampelos->, figs <4810-sukon->? so <3779-houto-> [can] no <3762-

oudeis-> fountain <4077-pege-> both yield <4160-poieo-> salt

<0252-halukos-> water <5204-hudor-> and fresh <1099-glukus->.




 13. Who <5101-tis-> [is] a wise <4680-sophos--oneidismos-> man

and endued <1990-epistemon-> with knowledge <1990-epistemon->

among <1722-en-> you? let him shew <1166-deiknuo-> out of a good

<2570-kalos-> conversation <0391-anastrophe-> his works <2041-

ergon-> with meekness <4240-prautes-> of wisdom <4678-sophia->.




 14 But if <1487-ei-> ye have <2192-echo-> bitter <4089-pikros->

envying <2205-zelos-> and strife <2052-eritheia-> in your <5216-

humon-> hearts <2588-kardia->, glory <2620-katakauchaomai-> not,

and lie <5574-pseudomai-> not against <2596-kata-> the truth

 15 This <3778-houtos-> wisdom <4678-sophia-> descendeth <2718-

katerchomai-> not from above <0509-anothen->, but [is] earthly

<1919-epigeios->, sensual <5591-psuchikos->, devilish <1141-

daimoniodes->.




 16 For where <3699-hopou-> envying <2205-zelos-> and strife

<2052-eritheia-> [is], there <1563-ekei-> [is] confusion <0181-

akatastasia-> and every <3956-pas-> evil <5337-phaulos-> work

<4229-pragma->.




 17 But the wisdom <4678-sophia-> that is from above <0509-

anothen-> is first <4412-proton-> pure <0053-hagnos->, then

<1899-epeita-> peaceable <1516-eirenikos->, gentle <1933-

epieikes->, [and] easy <2138-eupeithes-> to be intreated <2138-

eupeithes->, full <3324-mestos-> of mercy <1656-eleos-> and good

<0018-agathos-> fruits <2590-karpos->, without <0087-adiakritos-

> partiality <0087-adiakritos->, and without <0505-anupokritos->

hypocrisy <0505-anupokritos->.




 18 And the fruit <2590-karpos-> of righteousness <1343-

dikaiosune-> is sown <4687-speiro-> in peace <1515-eirene-> of

them that make <4160-poieo-> peace <1515-eirene->.
