Jeremiah   1

 1. The words <01697> of Jeremiah <03414> the son <01121> of

Hilkiah <02518>, of the priests <03548> that [were] in Anathoth

<06068> in the land <0776> of Benjamin <01144>:

2  To whom <0834> the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came

<01961> in the days <03117> of Josiah <02977> the son <01121> of

Amon <0526> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, in the thirteenth

year <08141> of his reign <04427>.

3  It came <01961> also in the days <03117> of Jehoiakim

<03079> the son <01121> of Josiah <02977> king <04428> of Judah

<03063>, unto the end <08537> of the eleventh year <08141> of

Zedekiah <06667> the son <01121> of Josiah <02977> king <04428>

of Judah <03063>, unto the carrying <01540> away of Jerusalem

<03389> captive <01540> in the fifth <02549> month <02320>.

 4. Then the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> unto

me, saying <0559>,

 5  Before <02962> I formed <03335> thee in the belly <0990> I

knew <03045> thee; and before <02962> thou camest <03318> forth

<03318> out of the womb <07358> I sanctified <06942> thee, [and]

I ordained <05414> thee a prophet <05030> unto the nations

<01471>.

 6  Then said <0559> I, Ah <0162>, Lord <0136> GOD <03069>!

behold <02009>, I cannot <03808> speak <01696>: for I [am] a

child <05288>.

7  But the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto me, Say <0559> not, I

[am] a child <05288>: for thou shalt go <03212> to all <03605>

that I shall send <07971> thee, and whatsoever I command <06680>

thee thou shalt speak <01696>.

8  Be not afraid <03372> of their faces <06440>: for I [am]

with thee to deliver <05337> thee, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>.

9  Then the LORD <03068> put <07971> forth <07971> his hand

<03027>, and touched <05060> my mouth <06310>. And the LORD

<03068> said <0559> unto me, Behold <02009>, I have put <05414>

my words <01697> in thy mouth <06310>.

 10  See <07200>, I have this <02088> day <03117> set <06485>

thee over <05921> the nations <01471> and over <05921> the

kingdoms <04467>, to root <05428> out, and to pull <05422> down,

and to destroy <06>, and to throw <02040> down <02040>, to build

<01129>, and to plant <05193>.

 11. Moreover the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961>

unto me, saying <0559>, Jeremiah <03414>, what <04100> seest

<07200> thou? And I said <0559>, I see <07200> a rod <04731> of

an almond <08247> tree.

12  Then said <0559> the LORD <03068> unto me, Thou hast well

<03190> seen <07200>: for I will hasten <08245> my word <01697>

to perform <06213> it.

13  And the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> unto

me the second <08145> time, saying <0559>, What <04100> seest

<07200> thou? And I said <0559>, I see <07200> a seething

<05301> pot <05518>; and the face <06440> thereof [is] toward

<06440> the north <06828>.

14  Then the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto me, Out of the north

<06828> an evil <07451> shall break <06605> forth upon all

<03605> the inhabitants <03427> of the land <0776>.

 15  For, lo <02009>, I will call <07121> all <03605> the

families <04940> of the kingdoms <04467> of the north <06828>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>; and they shall come <0935>, and

they shall set <05414> every <0376> one <0376> his throne

<03678> at the entering <06607> of the gates <08179> of

Jerusalem <03389>, and against <05921> all <03605> the walls

<02346> thereof round <05439> about, and against <05921> all

<03605> the cities <05892> of Judah <03063>.

16  And I will utter <01696> my judgments <04941> against

<05921> them touching <05921> all <03605> their wickedness

<07451>, who have forsaken <05800> me, and have burned <06999>

incense <06999> unto other <0312> gods <0430>, and worshipped

<07812> the works <04639> of their own <0249> hands <03027>.

17  Thou therefore gird <02296> up thy loins <04975>, and arise

<06965>, and speak <01696> unto them all <03605> that I command

<06680> thee: be not dismayed <02865> at their faces <06440>,

lest <06435> I confound <02865> thee before <06440> them.

18  For, behold <02009>, I have made <05414> thee this day

<03117> a defenced <04013> city <05892>, and an iron <01270>

pillar <05982>, and brasen <05178> walls <02346> against <05921>

the whole <03605> land <0776>, against the kings <04428> of

Judah <03063>, against the princes <08269> thereof, against the

priests <03548> thereof, and against the people <05971> of the

land <0776>.

19  And they shall fight <03898> against <0413> thee; but they

shall not prevail <03201> against thee; for I [am] with thee,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, to deliver <05337> thee.

Jeremiah   2

 1. Moreover the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961>

to me, saying <0559>,

2  Go <01980> and cry <07121> in the ears <0241> of Jerusalem

<03389>, saying <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>; I remember <02142> thee, the kindness <02617> of thy

youth <05271>, the love <0160> of thine espousals <03623>, when

thou wentest <03212> after <0310> me in the wilderness <04057>,

in a land <0776> [that was] not sown <02232>.

3  Israel <03478> [was] holiness <06944> unto the LORD <03068>,

[and] the firstfruits <07225> of his increase <08393>: all

<03605> that devour <0398> him shall offend <0816>; evil <07451>

shall come <0935> upon them, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

 4  Hear <08085> ye the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>, O

house <01004> of Jacob <03290>, and all <03605> the families

<04940> of the house <01004> of Israel <03478>:

 5  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, What <04100>

iniquity <05766> have your fathers <01> found <04672> in me,

that they are gone far <07368> from me, and have walked <03212>

after <0310> vanity <01892>, and are become <01891> vain <01891>?

6  Neither <03808> said <0559> they, Where <0346> [is] the LORD

<03068> that brought <05927> us up out of the land <0776> of

Egypt <04714>, that led <03212> us through the wilderness

<04057>, through a land <0776> of deserts <06160> and of pits

<07745>, through a land <0776> of drought <06723>, and of the

shadow <06757> of death <06757>, through a land <0776> that no

<03808> man <0376> passed <05674> through, and where <08033> no

<03808> man <0120> dwelt <03427>?

 7  And I brought <0935> you into <0413> a plentiful <03759>

country <0776>, to eat <0398> the fruit <06529> thereof and the

goodness <02898> thereof; but when ye entered <0935>, ye defiled

<02930> my land <0776>, and made <07760> mine heritage <05159>

an abomination <08441>.

8  The priests <03548> said <0559> not, Where <0346> [is] the

LORD <03068>? and they that handle <08610> the law <08451> knew

<03045> me not: the pastors <07462> also transgressed <06586>

against me, and the prophets <05030> prophesied <05012> by Baal

<01168>, and walked <01980> after <0310> [things that] do not

profit <03276>.

 9. Wherefore <03651> I will yet <05750> plead <07378> with you,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, and with your children's <01121>

children <01121> will I plead <07378>.

10  For pass <05674> over <05674> the isles <0339> of Chittim

<03794>, and see <07200>; and send <07971> unto Kedar <06938>,

and consider <0995> diligently <03966>, and see <07200> if there

be such <02063> a thing.

 11  Hath a nation <01471> changed <04171> [their] gods <0430>,

which <01992> [are] yet no <03808> gods <0430>? but my people

<05971> have changed <04171> their glory <03519> for [that which

<01992>] doth not profit <03276>.

 12  Be astonished <08074>, O ye heavens <08064>, at <05921>

this <02063>, and be horribly <08175> afraid <08175>, be ye very

<03966> desolate <02717>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

13  For my people <05971> have committed <06213> two <08147>

evils <07451>; they have forsaken <05800> me the fountain

<04726> of living <02416> waters <04325>, [and] hewed <02672>

them out cisterns <0877>, broken <07665> cisterns <0877>, that

can hold <03557> no <03808> water <04325>.

 14. [Is] Israel <03478> a servant <05650>? [is] he a homeborn

<01004> [slave]? why <04069> is he spoiled <0957>?

15  The young <03715> lions <03715> roared <07580> upon him,

[and] yelled, and they made <07896> his land <0776> waste

<08047>: his cities <05892> are burned <03341> without <01097>

inhabitant <03427>.

16  Also <01571> the children <01121> of Noph <05297> and

Tahapanes <08471> have broken <07462> the crown <06936> of thy

head <06936>.

17  Hast thou not procured <06213> this <02063> unto thyself,

in that thou hast forsaken <05800> the LORD <03068> thy God

<0430>, when <06256> he led <03212> thee by the way <01870>?

18  And now <06258> what <04100> hast thou to do in the way

<01870> of Egypt <04714>, to drink <08354> the waters <04325> of

Sihor <07883>? or what <04100> hast thou to do in the way

<01870> of Assyria <0804>, to drink <08354> the waters <04325>

of the river <05104>?

19  Thine own wickedness <07451> shall correct <03256> thee,

and thy backslidings <04878> shall reprove <03198> thee: know

<03045> therefore and see <07200> that [it is] an evil <07451>

[thing] and bitter <04751>, that thou hast forsaken <05800> the

LORD <03068> thy God <0430>, and that my fear <06345> [is] not

in thee, saith <05002> the Lord <0136> GOD <03069> of hosts

<06635>.

 20. For of old <05769> time I have broken <07665> thy yoke

<05923>, [and] burst <05423> thy bands <04147>; and thou saidst

<0559>, I will not transgress <05647>; when <03588> upon every

<03605> high <01364> hill <01389> and under <08478> every

<03605> green <07488> tree <06086> thou wanderest <06808>,

playing the harlot <02181>.

 21  Yet I had planted <05193> thee a noble vine <08321>, wholly

<03605> a right <0571> seed <02233>: how <0349> then art thou

turned <02015> into the degenerate <05494> plant of a strange

<05237> vine <01612> unto me?

22  For though <0518> thou wash <03526> thee with nitre <05427>,

and take thee much <07235> soap <01287>, [yet] thine iniquity

<05771> is marked <03799> before <06440> me, saith <05002> the

Lord <0136> GOD <03069>.

 23  How <0349> canst thou say <0559>, I am not polluted <02930>,

I have not gone <01980> after <0310> Baalim <01168>? see

<07200> thy way <01870> in the valley <01516>, know <03045> what

<04100> thou hast done <06213>: [thou art] a swift <07031>

dromedary <01072> traversing <08308> her ways <01870>;

 24  A wild <06501> ass <06501> used <03928> to the wilderness

<04057>, [that] snuffeth <07602> up the wind <07307> at her

pleasure; in her occasion <08385> who <04310> can turn <07725>

her away? all <03605> they that seek <01245> her will not weary

<03286> themselves; in her month <02320> they shall find <04672>

her.

25  Withhold <04513> thy foot <07272> from being unshod <03182>,

and thy throat <01627> from thirst <06773>: but thou saidst

<0559>, There is no hope <02976>: no <03808>; for I have loved

<0157> strangers <02114>, and after <0310> them will I go

<03212>.

26  As the thief <01590> is ashamed <01322> when <03588> he is

found <04672>, so <03651> is the house <01004> of Israel <03478>

ashamed <0954>; they, their kings <04428>, their princes <08269>,

and their priests <03548>, and their prophets <05030>,

 27  Saying <0559> to a stock <06086>, Thou [art] my father <01>;

and to a stone <068>, Thou hast brought <03205> me forth

<03205>: for they have turned <06437> [their] back <06203> unto

me, and not [their] face <06440>: but in the time <06256> of

their trouble <07451> they will say <0559>, Arise <06965>, and

save <03467> us.

28  But where <0346> [are] thy gods <0430> that thou hast made

<06213> thee? let them arise <06965>, if they can save <03467>

thee in the time <06256> of thy trouble <07451>: for [according

to] the number <04557> of thy cities <05892> are thy gods <0430>,

 O Judah <03063>.

 29. Wherefore <04100> will ye plead <07378> with me? ye all

<03605> have transgressed <06586> against me, saith <05002> the

LORD <03068>.

30  In vain <07723> have I smitten <05221> your children

<01121>; they received <03947> no <03808> correction <04148>:

your own sword <02719> hath devoured <0398> your prophets

<05030>, like a destroying <07843> lion <0738>.

 31  O generation <01755>, see <07200> ye the word <01697> of

the LORD <03068>. Have I been <01961> a wilderness <04057> unto

Israel <03478>? a land <0776> of darkness <03991>? wherefore

<04069> say <0559> my people <05971>, We are lords <07300>; we

will come <0935> no <03808> more <05750> unto thee?

 32  Can a maid <01330> forget <07911> her ornaments <05716>,

[or] a bride <03618> her attire <07196>? yet my people <05971>

have forgotten <07911> me days <03117> without <0369> number

<04557>.

33  Why <04100> trimmest <03190> thou thy way <01870> to seek

<01245> love <0160>? therefore <03651> hast thou also <01571>

taught <03925> the wicked <07451> ones thy ways <01870>.

34  Also <01571> in thy skirts <03671> is found <04672> the

blood <01818> of the souls <05315> of the poor <034> innocents

<05355>: I have not found <04672> it by secret <05643> search

<04290>, but upon all <03605> these <0428>.

35  Yet thou sayest <0559>, Because <03588> I am innocent

<05352>, surely <0389> his anger <0639> shall turn <07725> from

me. Behold <02005>, I will plead <08199> with thee, because

<05921> thou sayest <0559>, I have not sinned <02398>.

36  Why <04100> gaddest <0235> thou about <0235> so much

<03966> to change <08138> thy way <01870>? thou also <01571>

shalt be ashamed <0954> of Egypt <04714>, as thou wast ashamed

<0954> of Assyria <0804>.

37  Yea <01571>, thou shalt go <03318> forth <03318> from him,

and thine hands <03027> upon thine head <07218>: for the LORD

<03068> hath rejected <03988> thy confidences <04009>, and thou

shalt not prosper <06743> in them.

Jeremiah   3

 1. They say <0559>, If a man <0376> put <07971> away his wife

<0802>, and she go <01980> from him, and become <01961> another

<0312> man's <0376>, shall he return <07725> unto her again

<05750>? shall not that land <0776> be greatly polluted <02610>?

but thou hast played the harlot <02181> with many <07227> lovers

<07453>; yet return <07725> again to me, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>.

2  Lift <05375> up thine eyes <05869> unto the high <08205>

places, and see <07200> where <0375> thou hast not been lien

<07693> with. In the ways <01870> hast thou sat <03427> for them,

as the Arabian <06163> in the wilderness <04057>; and thou hast

polluted <02610> the land <0776> with thy whoredoms <02184> and

with thy wickedness <07451>.

3  Therefore the showers <07241> have been withholden <04513>,

and there hath been <01961> no <03808> latter <04456> rain

<04456>; and thou hadst a whore's <02181> forehead <04696>, thou

refusedst <03985> to be ashamed <03637>.

4  Wilt thou not from this time <06258> cry <07121> unto me, My

father <01>, thou [art] the guide <0441> of my youth <05271>?

5  Will he reserve <05201> [his anger] for ever? will he keep

<08104> [it] to the end <05331>? Behold <02009>, thou hast

spoken <01696> and done <06213> evil <07451> things as thou

couldest <03201>.

 6. The LORD <03068> said <0559> also unto me in the days

<03117> of Josiah <02977> the king <04428>, Hast thou seen

<07200> [that] which <0834> backsliding <04878> Israel <03478>

hath done <06213>? she is gone <01980> up upon every <03605>

high <01364> mountain <02022> and under every <03605> green

<07488> tree <06086>, and there <08033> hath played the harlot

<02181>.

 7  And I said <0559> after <0310> she had done <06213> all

<03605> these <0428> [things], Turn <07725> thou unto me. But

she returned <07725> not. And her treacherous <0901> sister

<0269> Judah <03063> saw <07200> [it].

 8  And I saw <07200>, when <03588> for all <03605> the causes

<0182> whereby <0834> backsliding <04878> Israel <03478>

committed <05003> adultery <05003> I had put <07971> her away,

and given <05414> her a bill <05612> of divorce <03748>; yet her

treacherous <0898> sister <0269> Judah <03063> feared <03372>

not, but went <03212> and played the harlot <02181> also <01571>.

9  And it came <01961> to pass through the lightness <06963> of

her whoredom <02184>, that she defiled <02610> the land <0776>,

and committed <05003> adultery <05003> with stones <068> and

with stocks <06086>.

10  And yet for all <03605> this <02063> her treacherous <0901>

sister <0269> Judah <03063> hath not turned <07725> unto me with

her whole <03605> heart <03820>, but feignedly <08267>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>.

11  And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto me, The backsliding

<04878> Israel <03478> hath justified <06663> herself more than

treacherous <0898> Judah <03063>.

 12. Go <01980> and proclaim <07121> these <0428> words <01697>

toward the north <06828>, and say <0559>, Return <07725>, thou

backsliding <04878> Israel <03478>, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>; [and] I will not cause mine anger <06440> to fall

<05307> upon you: for I [am] merciful <02623>, saith <05002> the

LORD <03068>, [and] I will not keep <05201> [anger] for ever

<05769>.

 13  Only <0389> acknowledge <03045> thine iniquity <05771>,

that thou hast transgressed <06586> against the LORD <03068> thy

God <0430>, and hast scattered <06340> thy ways <01870> to the

strangers <02114> under <08478> every <03605> green <07488> tree

<06086>, and ye have not obeyed <08085> my voice <06963>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>.

 14  Turn <07725>, O backsliding <07726> children <01121>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>; for I am married <01166> unto you: and

I will take <03947> you one <0259> of a city <05892>, and two

<08147> of a family <04940>, and I will bring <0935> you to Zion

<06726>:

15  And I will give <05414> you pastors <07462> according to

mine heart <03820>, which shall feed <07462> you with knowledge

<01844> and understanding <07919>.

16  And it shall come <01961> to pass, when <03588> ye be

multiplied <07235> and increased <06509> in the land <0776>, in

those <01992> days <03117>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, they

shall say <0559> no <03808> more <05750>, The ark <0727> of the

covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068>: neither <03808> shall it

come <05927> to mind <03820>: neither <03808> shall they

remember <02142> it; neither <03808> shall they visit <06485>

[it]; neither <03808> shall [that] be done <06213> any more

<05750>.

17  At that time <06256> they shall call <07121> Jerusalem

<03389> the throne <03678> of the LORD <03068>; and all <03605>

the nations <01471> shall be gathered <06960> unto it, to the

name <08034> of the LORD <03068>, to Jerusalem <03389>: neither

<03808> shall they walk <03212> any more <05750> after <0310>

the imagination <08307> of their evil <07451> heart <03820>.

18  In those <01992> days <03117> the house <01004> of Judah

<03063> shall walk <03212> with the house <01004> of Israel

<03478>, and they shall come <0935> together <03162> out of the

land <0776> of the north <06828> to the land <0776> that I have

given for an inheritance <05157> unto your fathers <01>.

 19  But I said <0559>, How <0349> shall I put <07896> thee

among the children <01121>, and give <05414> thee a pleasant

<02532> land <0776>, a goodly <06643> heritage <05159> of the

hosts <06635> of nations <01471>? and I said <0559>, Thou shalt

call <07121> me, My father <01>; and shalt not turn <07725> away

from me.

 20. Surely <0403> [as] a wife <0802> treacherously <0898>

departeth from her husband <01167>, so <03651> have ye dealt

treacherously <0898> with me, O house <01004> of Israel <03478>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

 21  A voice <06963> was heard <08085> upon the high <08205>

places, weeping <01065> [and] supplications <08469> of the

children <01121> of Israel <03478>: for they have perverted

<05753> their way <01870>, [and] they have forgotten <07911> the

LORD <03068> their God <0430>.

 22  Return <07725>, ye backsliding <07726> children <01121>,

[and] I will heal <07495> your backslidings <04878>. Behold

<02005>, we come <0857> unto thee; for thou [art] the LORD

<03068> our God <0430>.

23  Truly <0403> in vain <08267> [is salvation hoped for] from

the hills <01389>, [and from] the multitude <01995> of mountains

<02022>: truly <0403> in the LORD <03068> our God <0430> [is]

the salvation <08668> of Israel <03478>.

24  For shame <01322> hath devoured <0398> the labour <03018>

of our fathers <01> from our youth <05271>; their flocks <06629>

and their herds <01241>, their sons <01121> and their daughters

<01121>.

25  We lie <07901> down <07901> in our shame <01322>, and our

confusion <03639> covereth <03680> us: for we have sinned

<02398> against the LORD <03068> our God <0430>, we and our

fathers <01>, from our youth <05271> even unto this <02088> day

<03117>, and have not obeyed <08085> the voice <06963> of the

LORD <03068> our God <0430>.

Jeremiah   4

 1. If <0518> thou wilt return <07725>, O Israel <03478>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>, return <07725> unto me: and if thou

wilt put <05493> away <05493> thine abominations <08251> out of

my sight <06440>, then shalt thou not remove <05110>.

2  And thou shalt swear <07650>, The LORD <03068> liveth

<02416>, in truth <0571>, in judgment <04941>, and in

righteousness <06666>; and the nations <01471> shall bless

<01288> themselves in him, and in him shall they glory <01984>.

 3. For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> to the men

<0376> of Judah <03063> and Jerusalem <03389>, Break <05214> up

your fallow <05215> ground, and sow <02232> not among <0413>

thorns <06975>.

4  Circumcise <04135> yourselves to the LORD <03068>, and take

<05493> away <05493> the foreskins <06190> of your heart <03824>,

ye men <0376> of Judah <03063> and inhabitants <03427> of

Jerusalem <03389>: lest <06435> my fury <02534> come <03318>

forth <03318> like fire <0784>, and burn <01197> that none

<0369> can quench <03518> [it], because <06440> of the evil

<07451> of your doings <04611>.

 5. Declare <05046> ye in Judah <03063>, and publish <08085> in

Jerusalem <03389>; and say <0559>, Blow <08628> ye the trumpet

<07782> in the land <0776>: cry <07121>, gather <04390> together,

and say <0559>, Assemble <0622> yourselves, and let us go

<0935> into <0413> the defenced <04013> cities <05892>.

6  Set <05375> up the standard <05251> toward Zion <06726>:

retire <05756>, stay <05975> not: for I will bring <0935> evil

<07451> from the north <06828>, and a great <01419> destruction

<07667>.

7  The lion <0738> is come <05927> up from his thicket <05441>,

and the destroyer <07843> of the Gentiles <01471> is on his way

<05265>; he is gone <03318> forth <03318> from his place <04725>

to make <07760> thy land <0776> desolate <08047>; [and] thy

cities <05892> shall be laid waste <05327>, without <0369> an

inhabitant <03427>.

8  For this <02063> gird <02296> you with sackcloth <08242>,

lament <05594> and howl <03213>: for the fierce <02740> anger

<0639> of the LORD <03068> is not turned <07725> back <07725>

from us.

9  And it shall come <01961> to pass at that day <03117>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>, [that] the heart <03820> of the king

<04428> shall perish <06>, and the heart <03820> of the princes

<08269>; and the priests <03548> shall be astonished <08074>,

and the prophets <05030> shall wonder <08539>.

 10  Then said <0559> I, Ah <0162>, Lord <0136> GOD <03069>!

surely <0403> thou hast greatly deceived <05377> this <02088>

people <05971> and Jerusalem <03389>, saying <0559>, Ye shall

have <01961> peace <07965>; whereas the sword <02719> reacheth

<05060> unto the soul <05315>.

11  At that time <06256> shall it be said <0559> to this

<02088> people <05971> and to Jerusalem <03389>, A dry <06703>

wind <07307> of the high <08205> places in the wilderness

<04057> toward the daughter <01323> of my people <05971>, not to

fan <02219>, nor <03808> to cleanse <01305>,

 12  [Even] a full <04392> wind <07307> from those <0428>

[places] shall come <0935> unto me: now <06258> also <01571>

will I give <01696> sentence <04941> against them.

13  Behold <02009>, he shall come <05927> up as clouds <06053>,

and his chariots <04818> [shall be] as a whirlwind <05492>: his

horses <05483> are swifter <07043> than eagles <05404>. Woe

<0188> unto us! for we are spoiled <07703>.

 14  O Jerusalem <03389>, wash <03526> thine heart <03820> from

wickedness <07451>, that thou mayest be saved <03467>. How

<05704> long <05704> shall thy vain <0205> thoughts <04284>

lodge <03885> within <07130> thee?

 15  For a voice <06963> declareth <05046> from Dan <01835>, and

publisheth <08085> affliction <0205> from mount <02022> Ephraim

<0669>.

16  Make ye mention <02142> to the nations <01471>; behold

<02009>, publish <08085> against <05921> Jerusalem <03389>,

[that] watchers <05341> come <0935> from a far <04801> country

<0776>, and give <05414> out their voice <06963> against <05921>

the cities <05892> of Judah <03063>.

17  As keepers <08104> of a field <07704>, are they against

<05921> her round <05439> about; because <03588> she hath been

rebellious <04784> against me, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

18  Thy way <01870> and thy doings <04611> have procured

<06213> these <0428> [things] unto thee; this <02063> [is] thy

wickedness <07451>, because <03588> it is bitter <04751>,

because <03588> it reacheth <05060> unto thine heart <03820>.

 19. My bowels <04578>, my bowels <04578>! I am pained <03176>

at my very <07023> heart <03820>; my heart <03820> maketh a

noise <01993> in me; I cannot <03808> hold <02790> my peace

<02790>, because <03588> thou hast heard <08085>, O my soul

<05315>, the sound <06963> of the trumpet <07782>, the alarm

<08643> of war <04421>.

20  Destruction <07667> upon destruction <07667> is cried

<07121>; for the whole <03605> land <0776> is spoiled <07703>:

suddenly <06597> are my tents <0168> spoiled <07703>, [and] my

curtains <03407> in a moment <07281>.

 21  How <05704> long <05704> shall I see <07200> the standard

<05251>, [and] hear <08085> the sound <06963> of the trumpet

<07782>?

22  For my people <05971> [is] foolish <0191>, they have not

known <03045> me; they [are] sottish <05530> children <01121>,

and they have none <03808> understanding <0995>: they [are] wise

<02450> to do evil <07489>, but to do good <03190> they have no

<03808> knowledge <03045>.

 23  I beheld <07200> the earth <0776>, and, lo <02009>, [it

was] without <08414> form <08414>, and void <0922>; and the

heavens <08064>, and they [had] no <0369> light <0216>.

 24  I beheld <07200> the mountains <02022>, and, lo <02009>,

they trembled <07493>, and all <03605> the hills <01389> moved

<07043> lightly <07043>.

 25  I beheld <07200>, and, lo <02009>, [there was] no <0369>

man <0120>, and all <03605> the birds <05775> of the heavens

<08064> were fled <05074>.

 26  I beheld <07200>, and, lo <02009>, the fruitful <03759>

place [was] a wilderness <04057>, and all <03605> the cities

<05892> thereof were broken <05422> down <05422> at the presence

<06440> of the LORD <03068>, [and] by his fierce <02740> anger

<0639>.

27  For thus <03541> hath the LORD <03068> said <0559>, The

whole <03605> land <0776> shall be desolate <08077>; yet will I

not make <06213> a full end <03615>.

28  For this <02063> shall the earth <0776> mourn <056>, and

the heavens <08064> above <04605> be black <06937>: because I

have spoken <01696> [it], I have purposed <02161> [it], and will

not repent <05162>, neither <03808> will I turn <07725> back

<07725> from it.

29  The whole <03605> city <05892> shall flee <01272> for the

noise <06963> of the horsemen <06571> and bowmen; they shall go

<0935> into thickets <05645>, and climb <05927> up upon the

rocks <03710>: every <03605> city <05892> [shall be] forsaken

<05800>, and not a man <0376> dwell <03427> therein <02004>.

30  And [when] thou [art] spoiled <07703>, what <04100> wilt

thou do <06213>? Though <03588> thou clothest <03847> thyself

with crimson <08144>, though <03588> thou deckest <05710> thee

with ornaments <05716> of gold <02091>, though <03588> thou

rentest <07167> thy face <05869> with painting <06320>, in vain

<07723> shalt thou make thyself fair <03302>; [thy] lovers

<05689> will despise <03988> thee, they will seek <01245> thy

life <05315>.

 31  For I have heard <08085> a voice <06963> as of a woman in

travail <02470>, [and] the anguish <06869> as of her that

bringeth <01069> forth her first <01069> child, the voice

<06963> of the daughter <01323> of Zion <06726>, [that]

bewaileth <03306> herself, [that] spreadeth <06566> her hands

<03709>, [saying], Woe <0188> [is] me now <04994>! for my soul

<05315> is wearied <05888> because of murderers <02026>.

Jeremiah   5

 1. Run <07751> ye to and fro <07751> through the streets

<02351> of Jerusalem <03389>, and see <07200> now <04994>, and

know <03045>, and seek <01245> in the broad <07339> places

thereof, if <0518> ye can find <04672> a man <0376>, if <0518>

there be [any] that executeth <06213> judgment <04941>, that

seeketh <01245> the truth <0530>; and I will pardon <05545> it.

2  And though <0518> they say <0559>, The LORD <03068> liveth

<02416>; surely <0403> they swear <07650> falsely <08267>.

3  O LORD <03068>, [are] not thine eyes <05869> upon the truth

<0530>? thou hast stricken <05221> them, but they have not

grieved <02342>; thou hast consumed <03615> them, [but] they

have refused <03985> to receive <03947> correction <04148>: they

have made their faces <06440> harder <02388> than a rock <05553>;

they have refused <03985> to return <07725>.

 4  Therefore I said <0559>, Surely <0389> these <01992> [are]

poor <01800>; they are foolish <02973>: for they know <03045>

not the way <01870> of the LORD <03068>, [nor] the judgment

<04941> of their God <0430>.

5  I will get <03212> me unto the great <01419> men, and will

speak <01696> unto them; for they have known <03045> the way

<01870> of the LORD <03068>, [and] the judgment <04941> of their

God <0430>: but these <01992> have altogether <03162> broken

<07665> the yoke <05923>, [and] burst <05423> the bonds <04147>.

6  Wherefore a lion <0738> out of the forest <03293> shall slay

<05221> them, [and] a wolf <02061> of the evenings <06160> shall

spoil <07703> them, a leopard <05246> shall watch <08245> over

<05921> their cities <05892>: every one that goeth <03318> out

thence <02007> shall be torn <02963> in pieces: because <03588>

their transgressions <06588> are many <07231>, [and] their

backslidings <04878> are increased <06105>.

 7  How <0335> shall I pardon <05545> thee for this <02063>? thy

children <01121> have forsaken <05800> me, and sworn <07650> by

[them that are] no <03808> gods <0430>: when I had fed them to

the full <07646>, they then committed <05003> adultery <05003>,

and assembled <01413> themselves by troops in the harlots

<02181>' houses <01004>.

8  They were [as] fed <02109> horses <05483> in the morning

<07904>: every <0376> one <0376> neighed <06670> after <0413>

his neighbour's <07453> wife <0802>.

9  Shall I not visit <06485> for these <0428> [things]? saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>: and shall not my soul <05315> be

avenged <05358> on such <0834> a nation <01471> as this <02088>?

 10. Go <05927> ye up upon her walls <08284>, and destroy

<07843>; but make <06213> not a full end <03615>: take <05493>

away <05493> her battlements <05189>; for they [are] not the

LORD'S <03068>.

11  For the house <01004> of Israel <03478> and the house

<01004> of Judah <03063> have dealt very treacherously <0898>

against me, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

12  They have belied <03584> the LORD <03068>, and said <0559>,

[It is] not he; neither <03808> shall evil <07451> come <0935>

upon us; neither <03808> shall we see <07200> sword <02719> nor

famine <07458>:

13  And the prophets <05030> shall become <01961> wind <07307>,

and the word <01699> [is] not in them: thus <03541> shall it be

done <06213> unto them.

 14  Wherefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> God <0430> of hosts <06635>, Because <03282> ye speak

<01696> this <02088> word <01697>, behold <02005>, I will make

<05414> my words <01697> in thy mouth <06310> fire <0784>, and

this <02088> people <05971> wood <06086>, and it shall devour

<0398> them.

 15  Lo <02009>, I will bring <0935> a nation <01471> upon you

from far <04801>, O house <01004> of Israel <03478>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>: it [is] a mighty <0386> nation <01471>,

it [is] an ancient <05769> nation <01471>, a nation <01471>

whose language <03956> thou knowest <03045> not, neither <03808>

understandest <08085> what <04100> they say <01696>.

16  Their quiver <0827> [is] as an open <06605> sepulchre

<06913>, they [are] all <03605> mighty <01368> men.

17  And they shall eat <0398> up thine harvest <07105>, and thy

bread <03899>, [which] thy sons <01121> and thy daughters

<01121> should eat <0398>: they shall eat <0398> up thy flocks

<06629> and thine herds <01241>: they shall eat <0398> up thy

vines <01612> and thy fig <08384> trees: they shall impoverish

<07567> thy fenced <04013> cities <05892>, wherein <0834> thou

trustedst <0982>, with the sword <02719>.

 18  Nevertheless <01571> in those <01992> days <03117>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>, I will not make <06213> a full end

<03615> with you.

19  And it shall come <01961> to pass, when <03588> ye shall

say <0559>, Wherefore doeth <06213> the LORD <03068> our God

<0430> all <03605> these <0428> [things] unto us? then shalt

thou answer <0559> them, Like as ye have forsaken <05800> me,

and served <05647> strange <05236> gods <0430> in your land

<0776>, so <03651> shall ye serve <05647> strangers <02114> in a

land <0776> [that is] not yours.

 20. Declare <05046> this <02063> in the house <01004> of Jacob

<03290>, and publish <08085> it in Judah <03063>, saying <0559>,

 21  Hear <08085> now <04994> this <02063>, O foolish <05530>

people <05971>, and without <0369> understanding <03820>; which

have eyes <05869>, and see <07200> not; which have ears <0241>,

and hear <08085> not:

22  Fear <03372> ye not me? saith <05002> the LORD <03068>:

will ye not tremble <02342> at my presence <06440>, which <0834>

have placed <0776> the sand <02344> [for] the bound <01366> of

the sea <03220> by a perpetual <05769> decree <02706>, that it

cannot <03201> pass <05674> it: and though the waves <01530>

thereof toss <01607> themselves, yet can they not prevail

<03201>; though they roar <01993>, yet can <03201> they not pass

<05674> over <05674> it?

 23  But this <02088> people <05971> hath a revolting <05637>

and a rebellious <04784> heart <03820>; they are revolted

<05498> and gone <03212>.

24  Neither <03808> say <0559> they in their heart <03824>, Let

us now <04994> fear <03372> the LORD <03068> our God <0430>,

that giveth <05414> rain <01653>, both the former <03138> and

the latter <04456>, in his season <06256>: he reserveth <08104>

unto us the appointed <02708> weeks <07620> of the harvest

<07105>.

 25. Your iniquities <05771> have turned <05186> away these

<0428> [things], and your sins <02403> have withholden <04513>

good <02896> [things] from you.

26  For among my people <05971> are found <04672> wicked

<07563> [men]: they lay wait <07789>, as he that setteth <07918>

snares <03353>; they set <05324> a trap <04889>, they catch

<03920> men <0582>.

 27  As a cage <03619> is full <04392> of birds <05775>, so

<03651> [are] their houses <01004> full <04392> of deceit

<04820>: therefore they are become <06238> great <01431>, and

waxen rich <06238>.

28  They are waxen fat <08080>, they shine <06245>: yea <01571>,

they overpass <05674> the deeds <01697> of the wicked <07451>:

they judge <01777> not the cause <01779>, the cause of the

fatherless <03490>, yet they prosper <06743>; and the right

<04941> of the needy <034> do they not judge <08199>.

29  Shall I not visit <06485> for these <0428> [things]? saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>: shall not my soul <05315> be avenged

<05358> on such <0834> a nation <01471> as this?

30  A wonderful <08047> and horrible <08186> thing is committed

<01961> in the land <0776>;

 31  The prophets <05030> prophesy <05012> falsely <08267>, and

the priests <03548> bear <07287> rule <07287> by their means

<03027>; and my people <05971> love <0157> [to have it] so

<03651>: and what <04100> will ye do <06213> in the end <0319>

thereof?

Jeremiah   6

 1. O ye children <01121> of Benjamin <01144>, gather <05756>

yourselves to flee <05756> out of the midst <07130> of Jerusalem

<03389>, and blow <08628> the trumpet <07782> in Tekoa <08620>,

and set <05375> up a sign <04864> of fire in Bethhaccerem

<01021>: for evil <07451> appeareth <08259> out of the north

<06828>, and great <01419> destruction <07667>.

 2  I have likened <01819> the daughter <01323> of Zion <06726>

to a comely <05000> and delicate <06026> [woman].

3  The shepherds <07462> with their flocks <05739> shall come

<0935> unto her; they shall pitch <08628> [their] tents <0168>

against <05921> her round <05439> about; they shall feed <07462>

every <0376> one <0376> in his place <03027>.

4  Prepare <06942> ye war <04421> against <05921> her; arise

<06965>, and let us go <05927> up at noon <06672>. Woe <0188>

unto us! for the day <03117> goeth <06437> away, for the shadows

<06752> of the evening <06153> are stretched <05186> out.

5  Arise <06965>, and let us go <05927> by night <03915>, and

let us destroy <07843> her palaces <0759>.

6  For thus <03541> hath the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635> said

<0559>, Hew <03772> ye down trees <06097>, and cast <08210> a

mount <05550> against <05921> Jerusalem <03389>: this <01931>

[is] the city <05892> to be visited <06485>; she [is] wholly

<03605> oppression <06233> in the midst <07130> of her.

 7  As a fountain <0953> casteth <06979> out her waters <04325>,

so <03651> she casteth <06979> out her wickedness <07451>:

violence <02555> and spoil <07701> is heard <08085> in her;

before me continually <08548> [is] grief <02483> and wounds

<04347>.

 8  Be thou instructed <03256>, O Jerusalem <03389>, lest

<06435> my soul <05315> depart <03363> from thee; lest <06435> I

make <07760> thee desolate <08077>, a land <0776> not inhabited

<03427>.

 9. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

They shall throughly glean <05953> the remnant <07611> of Israel

<03478> as a vine <01612>: turn <07725> back <07725> thine hand

<03027> as a grapegatherer <01219> into <05921> the baskets

<05552>.

10  To whom <04310> shall I speak <01696>, and give warning

<05749>, that they may hear <08085>? behold <02009>, their ear

<0241> [is] uncircumcised <06189>, and they cannot hearken

<07181>: behold <02009>, the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> is

unto them a reproach <02781>; they have no <03808> delight

<02654> in it.

11  Therefore I am full <04392> of the fury <02534> of the LORD

<03068>; I am weary <03811> with holding <03557> in: I will pour

<08210> it out upon the children <05768> abroad <02351>, and

upon the assembly <05475> of young <0970> men together <03162>:

for even <01571> the husband <0376> with the wife <0802> shall

be taken <03920>, the aged <02205> with [him that is] full

<04390> of days <03117>.

12  And their houses <01004> shall be turned <05437> unto

others <0312>, [with their] fields <07704> and wives <0802>

together <03162>: for I will stretch <05186> out my hand <03027>

upon the inhabitants <03427> of the land <0776>, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>.

13  For from the least <06996> of them even unto the greatest

<01419> of them every <03605> one [is] given to covetousness

<01215>; and from the prophet <05030> even unto the priest

<03548> every <03605> one dealeth <06213> falsely <08267>.

14  They have healed <07495> also the hurt <07667> [of the

daughter] of my people <05971> slightly <07043>, saying <0559>,

Peace <07965>, peace <07965>; when [there is] no <0369> peace

<07965>.

15  Were they ashamed <0954> when <03588> they had committed

<06213> abomination <08441>? nay <01571>, they were not at all

ashamed <0954>, neither could <03045> they blush <03637>:

therefore <03651> they shall fall <05307> among them that fall

<05307>: at the time <06256> [that] I visit <06485> them they

shall be cast <03782> down <03782>, saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>.

 16  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Stand <05975>

ye in the ways <01870>, and see <07200>, and ask <07592> for the

old <05769> paths <05410>, where <0335> [is] the good <02896>

way <01870>, and walk <03212> therein, and ye shall find <04672>

rest <04771> for your souls <05315>. But they said <0559>, We

will not walk <03212> [therein].

 17  Also I set <06965> watchmen <06822> over <05921> you,

[saying], Hearken <07181> to the sound <06963> of the trumpet

<07782>. But they said <0559>, We will not hearken <07181>.

 18. Therefore <03651> hear <08085>, ye nations <01471>, and

know <03045>, O congregation <05712>, what [is] among them.

 19  Hear <08085>, O earth <0776>: behold <02009>, I will bring

<0935> evil <07451> upon this <02088> people <05971>, [even] the

fruit <06529> of their thoughts <04284>, because they have not

hearkened <07181> unto my words <01697>, nor to my law <08451>,

but rejected <03988> it.

20  To what <04100> purpose cometh <0935> there to me incense

<03828> from Sheba <07614>, and the sweet <02896> cane <07070>

from a far <04801> country <0776>? your burnt <05930> offerings

[are] not acceptable <07522>, nor <03808> your sacrifices

<02077> sweet <06147> unto me.

 21  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>, Behold <02005>, I will lay <05414> stumblingblocks

<04383> before <0413> this <02088> people <05971>, and the

fathers <01> and the sons <01121> together <03162> shall fall

<03782> upon them; the neighbour <07934> and his friend <07453>

shall perish <06>.

 22  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Behold <02009>,

a people <05971> cometh <0935> from the north <06828> country

<0776>, and a great <01419> nation <01471> shall be raised

<05782> from the sides <03411> of the earth <0776>.

23  They shall lay hold <02388> on bow <07198> and spear

<03591>; they [are] cruel <0394>, and have no <03808> mercy

<07355>; their voice <06963> roareth <01993> like the sea

<03220>; and they ride <07392> upon horses <05483>, set in array

<06186> as men <0376> for war <04421> against <05921> thee, O

daughter <01323> of Zion <06726>.

24  We have heard <08085> the fame <08089> thereof: our hands

<03027> wax feeble <07503>: anguish <06869> hath taken <02388>

hold <02388> of us, [and] pain <02427>, as of a woman in travail

<03205>.

25  Go <03318> not forth <03318> into the field <07704>, nor

<0408> walk <03212> by the way <01870>; for the sword <02719> of

the enemy <0341> [and] fear <04032> [is] on every <05437> side

<05439>.

 26  O daughter <01323> of my people <05971>, gird <02296>

[thee] with sackcloth <08242>, and wallow <06428> thyself in

ashes <0665>: make <06213> thee mourning <060>, [as for] an only

<03173> son <03173>, most bitter <08563> lamentation <04553>:

for the spoiler <07703> shall suddenly <06597> come <0935> upon

us.

 27  I have set <05414> thee [for] a tower <0969> [and] a

fortress <04013> among my people <05971>, that thou mayest know

<03045> and try <0974> their way <01870>.

 28  They [are] all <03605> grievous <05493> revolters <05637>,

walking <01980> with slanders <07400>: [they are] brass <05178>

and iron <01270>; they [are] all <03605> corrupters <07843>.

29  The bellows <04647> are burned <02787>, the lead <05777> is

consumed <08552> of the fire <0784>; the founder <06884> melteth

<06884> in vain <07723>: for the wicked <07451> are not plucked

<05423> away.

 30  Reprobate <03988> silver <03701> shall [men] call <07121>

them, because <03588> the LORD <03068> hath rejected <03988>

them.

Jeremiah   7

 1. The word <01697> that came <01961> to Jeremiah <03414> from

the LORD <03068>, saying <0559>,

 2  Stand <05975> in the gate <08179> of the LORD'S <03068>

house <01004>, and proclaim <07121> there <08033> this <02088>

word <01697>, and say <0559>, Hear <08085> the word <01697> of

the LORD <03068>, all <03605> [ye of] Judah <03063>, that enter

<0935> in at these <0428> gates <08179> to worship <07812> the

LORD <03068>.

 3  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

the God <0430> of Israel <03478>, Amend <03190> your ways

<01870> and your doings <04611>, and I will cause you to dwell

<07931> in this <02088> place <04725>.

4  Trust <0982> ye not in lying <08267> words <01697>, saying

<0559>, The temple <01964> of the LORD <03068>, The temple

<01964> of the LORD <03068>, The temple <01964> of the LORD

<03068>, [are] these <01992>.

5  For if <0518> ye throughly amend <03190> your ways <01870>

and your doings <04611>; if <0518> ye throughly execute <06213>

judgment <04941> between <0996> a man <0376> and his neighbour

<07453>;

6  [If] ye oppress <06231> not the stranger <01616>, the

fatherless <03490>, and the widow <0490>, and shed <08210> not

innocent <05355> blood <01818> in this <02088> place <04725>,

neither <03808> walk <03212> after <0310> other <0312> gods

<0430> to your hurt <07451>:

7  Then will I cause you to dwell <07931> in this <02088> place

<04725>, in the land <0776> that I gave <05414> to your fathers

<01>, for ever <05769> and ever <05769>.

8  Behold <02009>, ye trust <0982> in lying <08267> words

<01697>, that cannot <01115> profit <03276>.

9  Will ye steal <01589>, murder <07523>, and commit <05003>

adultery <05003>, and swear <07650> falsely <08267>, and burn

<06999> incense <06999> unto Baal <01168>, and walk <01980>

after <0310> other <0312> gods <0430> whom <0834> ye know

<03045> not;

10  And come <0935> and stand <05975> before <06440> me in this

<02088> house <01004>, which <0834> is called <07121> by my name

<08034>, and say <0559>, We are delivered <05337> to do <06213>

all <03605> these <0428> abominations <08441>?

11  Is this <02088> house <01004>, which <0834> is called

<07121> by my name <08034>, become <01961> a den <04631> of

robbers <06530> in your eyes <05869>? Behold <02009>, even

<01571> I have seen <07200> [it], saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

12  But go <03212> ye now <04994> unto my place <04725> which

<0834> [was] in Shiloh <07887>, where I set <07931> my name

<08034> at the first <07223>, and see <07200> what I did <06213>

to it for the wickedness <07451> of my people <05971> Israel

<03478>.

13  And now <04994>, because <03282> ye have done <06213> all

<03605> these <0428> works <04639>, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>, and I spake <01696> unto you, rising <07925> up early

<07925> and speaking <01696>, but ye heard <08085> not; and I

called <07121> you, but ye answered <06030> not;

14  Therefore will I do <06213> unto [this] house <01004>,

which <0834> is called <07121> by my name <08034>, wherein

<0834> ye trust <0982>, and unto the place <04725> which <0834>

I gave <05414> to you and to your fathers <01>, as I have done

<06213> to Shiloh <07887>.

15  And I will cast <07993> you out of my sight <06440>, as I

have cast <07993> out all <03605> your brethren <0251>, [even

<0853>] the whole <03605> seed <02233> of Ephraim <0669>.

 16. Therefore pray <06419> not thou for this <02088> people

<05971>, neither <0408> lift <05375> up cry <07440> nor <0408>

prayer <08605> for them, neither <0408> make intercession

<06293> to me: for I will not hear <08085> thee.

17  Seest <07200> thou not what <04100> they do <06213> in the

cities <05892> of Judah <03063> and in the streets <02351> of

Jerusalem <03389>?

18  The children <01121> gather <03950> wood <06086>, and the

fathers <01> kindle <01197> the fire <0784>, and the women

<0802> knead <03888> [their] dough <01217>, to make <06213>

cakes <03561> to the queen <04446> of heaven <08064>, and to

pour <05258> out drink <05262> offerings <05262> unto other

<0312> gods <0430>, that they may provoke me to anger <03707>.

19  Do they provoke me to anger <03707>? saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>: [do they] not [provoke] themselves to the confusion

<01322> of their own faces <06440>?

 20  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the Lord <0136>

GOD <03069>; Behold <02009>, mine anger <0639> and my fury

<02534> shall be poured <05413> out upon this <02088> place

<04725>, upon man <0120>, and upon beast <0929>, and upon the

trees <06086> of the field <07704>, and upon the fruit <06529>

of the ground <0127>; and it shall burn <01197>, and shall not

be quenched <03518>.

 21. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; Put <05595> your burnt

<05930> offerings unto your sacrifices <02077>, and eat <0398>

flesh <01320>.

 22  For I spake <01696> not unto your fathers <01>, nor <03808>

commanded <06680> them in the day <03117> that I brought <03318>

them out of the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>, concerning burnt

<05930> offerings or sacrifices <02077>:

 23  But this <02088> thing <01697> commanded <06680> I them,

saying <0559>, Obey <08085> my voice <06963>, and I will be your

God <0430>, and ye shall be my people <05971>: and walk <01980>

ye in all <03605> the ways <01870> that I have commanded <06680>

you, that it may be well <03190> unto you.

24  But they hearkened <08085> not, nor <03808> inclined

<05186> their ear <0241>, but walked <03212> in the counsels

<04156> [and] in the imagination <08307> of their evil <07451>

heart <03820>, and went <01961> backward <0268>, and not forward

<06440>.

25  Since <04480> the day <03117> that your fathers <01> came

<03318> forth <03318> out of the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>

unto this <02088> day <03117> I have even sent <07971> unto you

all <03605> my servants <05650> the prophets <05030>, daily

<03117> rising <07925> up early <07925> and sending <07971>

[them]:

26  Yet they hearkened <08085> not unto me, nor <03808>

inclined <05186> their ear <0241>, but hardened <07185> their

neck <06202>: they did worse <07489> than their fathers <01>.

27  Therefore thou shalt speak <01696> all <03605> these <0428>

words <01697> unto them; but they will not hearken <08085> to

thee: thou shalt also call <07121> unto them; but they will not

answer <06030> thee.

28  But thou shalt say <0559> unto them, This <02088> [is] a

nation <01471> that obeyeth <08085> not the voice <06963> of the

LORD <03068> their God <0430>, nor <03808> receiveth <03947>

correction <04148>: truth <0530> is perished <06>, and is cut

<03772> off from their mouth <06310>.

 29. Cut <01494> off thine hair <05145>, [O Jerusalem], and cast

<07993> [it] away, and take <05375> up a lamentation <07015> on

<05921> high <08205> places; for the LORD <03068> hath rejected

<03988> and forsaken <05203> the generation <01755> of his wrath

<05678>.

30  For the children <01121> of Judah <03063> have done <06213>

evil <07451> in my sight <05869>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>:

they have set <07760> their abominations <08251> in the house

<01004> which <0834> is called <07121> by my name <08034>, to

pollute <02930> it.

31  And they have built <01129> the high <01116> places of

Tophet <08612>, which <0834> [is] in the valley <01516> of the

son <01121> of Hinnom <02011>, to burn <08313> their sons

<01121> and their daughters <01121> in the fire <0784>; which

<0834> I commanded <06680> [them] not, neither <03808> came

<05927> it into <05921> my heart <03820>.

 32  Therefore <03651>, behold <02009>, the days <03117> come

<0935>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, that it shall no <03808>

more <05750> be called <0559> Tophet <08612>, nor the valley

<01516> of the son <01121> of Hinnom <02011>, but the valley

<01516> of slaughter <02028>: for they shall bury <06912> in

Tophet <08612>, till there be no <0369> place <04725>.

33  And the carcases <05038> of this <02088> people <05971>

shall be meat <03978> for the fowls <05775> of the heaven

<08064>, and for the beasts <0929> of the earth <0776>; and none

<0369> shall fray <02729> [them] away.

34  Then will I cause to cease <07673> from the cities <05892>

of Judah <03063>, and from the streets <02351> of Jerusalem

<03389>, the voice <06963> of mirth <08342>, and the voice

<06963> of gladness <08057>, the voice <06963> of the bridegroom

<02860>, and the voice <06963> of the bride <03618>: for the

land <0776> shall be desolate <02723>.

Jeremiah   8

 1. At that time <06256>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, they

shall bring <03318> out the bones <06106> of the kings <04428>

of Judah <03063>, and the bones <06106> of his princes <08269>,

and the bones <06106> of the priests <03548>, and the bones

<06106> of the prophets <05030>, and the bones <06106> of the

inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389>, out of their graves

<06913>:

2  And they shall spread <07849> them before the sun <08121>,

and the moon <03394>, and all <03605> the host <06635> of heaven

<08064>, whom <0834> they have loved <0157>, and whom <0834>

they have served <05647>, and after <0310> whom <0834> they have

walked <01980>, and whom they have sought <01875>, and whom

<0834> they have worshipped <07812>: they shall not be gathered

<0622>, nor <03808> be buried <06912>; they shall be for dung

<01828> upon the face <06440> of the earth <0127>.

3  And death <04194> shall be chosen <0977> rather than life

<02416> by all <03605> the residue <07611> of them that remain

<07604> of this <02063> evil <07451> family <04940>, which

remain <07604> in all <03605> the places <04725> whither I have

driven <05080> them, saith <05002> the LORD <03068> of hosts

<06635>.

 4. Moreover thou shalt say <0559> unto them, Thus <03541> saith

<0559> the LORD <03068>; Shall they fall <05307>, and not arise

<06965>? shall he turn <07725> away, and not return <07725>?

5  Why <04069> [then] is this <02088> people <05971> of

Jerusalem <03389> slidden <07725> back <07725> by a perpetual

<05331> backsliding <04878>? they hold <02388> fast deceit

<08649>, they refuse <03985> to return <07725>.

6  I hearkened <08085> and heard <08085>, [but] they spake

<01696> not aright <03651>: no <0369> man <0376> repented

<05162> him of his wickedness <07451>, saying <0559>, What

<04100> have I done <06213>? every <03605> one turned <07725> to

his course <04794>, as the horse <05483> rusheth <07857> into

the battle <04421>.

7  Yea <01571>, the stork <02624> in the heaven <08064> knoweth

<03045> her appointed <04150> times <06256>; and the turtle

<08449> and the crane <05483> and the swallow <05693> observe

<08104> the time <06256> of their coming <0935>; but my people

<05971> know <03045> not the judgment <04941> of the LORD

<03068>.

8  How <0349> do ye say <0559>, We [are] wise <02450>, and the

law <08451> of the LORD <03068> [is] with us? Lo <02009>,

certainly <0403> in vain <08267> made <06213> he [it]; the pen

<05842> of the scribes <05608> [is] in vain <08267>.

9  The wise <02450> [men] are ashamed <0954>, they are dismayed

<02865> and taken: lo <02009>, they have rejected <03988> the

word <01697> of the LORD <03068>; and what <04100> wisdom

<02451> [is] in them?

 10  Therefore <03651> will I give <05414> their wives <0802>

unto others <0312>, [and] their fields <07704> to them that

shall inherit <03423> [them]: for every <03605> one from the

least <06996> even unto the greatest <01419> is given to

covetousness <01215>, from the prophet <05030> even unto the

priest <03548> every <03605> one dealeth <06213> falsely <08267>.

11  For they have healed <07495> the hurt <07667> of the

daughter <01323> of my people <05971> slightly <07043>, saying

<0559>, Peace <07965>, peace <07965>; when [there is] no <0369>

peace <07965>.

12  Were they ashamed <0954> when <03588> they had committed

<06213> abomination <08441>? nay <01571>, they were not at all

ashamed <0954>, neither <03808> could <03045> they blush <03637>:

therefore <03651> shall they fall <05307> among them that fall

<05307>: in the time <06256> of their visitation <06486> they

shall be cast <03782> down <03782>, saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>.

 13. I will surely consume <05486> them, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>: [there shall be] no <0369> grapes <06025> on the vine

<01612>, nor <0369> figs <08384> on the fig <08384> tree, and

the leaf <05929> shall fade <05034>; and [the things that] I

have given <05414> them shall pass <05674> away from them.

14  Why do we sit <03427> still? assemble <0622> yourselves,

and let us enter <0935> into <0413> the defenced <04013> cities

<05892>, and let us be silent <01826> there <08033>: for the

LORD <03068> our God <0430> hath put us to silence <01826>, and

given us water <04325> of gall <07219> to drink <08248>, because

<03588> we have sinned <02398> against the LORD <03068>.

15  We looked <06960> for peace <07965>, but no <0369> good

<02896> [came; and] for a time <06256> of health <04832>, and

behold <02009> trouble <01205>!

16  The snorting <05170> of his horses <05483> was heard

<08085> from Dan <01835>: the whole <03605> land <0776> trembled

<07493> at the sound <06963> of the neighing <04684> of his

strong <047> ones; for they are come <0935>, and have devoured

<0398> the land <0776>, and all <04393> that is in it; the city

<05892>, and those that dwell <03427> therein.

 17  For, behold <02005>, I will send <07971> serpents <05175>,

cockatrices <06848>, among you, which <0834> [will] not [be]

charmed <03908>, and they shall bite <05391> you, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>.

18  [When] I would comfort <04010> myself against sorrow

<03015>, my heart <03820> [is] faint <01742> in me.

19  Behold <02009> the voice <06963> of the cry <07775> of the

daughter <01323> of my people <05971> because of them that dwell

in a far <04801> country <0776>: [Is] not the LORD <03068> in

Zion <06726>? [is] not her king <04428> in her? Why <04069> have

they provoked me to anger <03707> with their graven <06456>

images, [and] with strange <05236> vanities <01892>?

20  The harvest <07105> is past <05674>, the summer <07019> is

ended <03615>, and we are not saved <03467>.

21  For the hurt <07667> of the daughter <01323> of my people

<05971> am I hurt <07665>; I am black <06937>; astonishment

<08047> hath taken <02388> hold <02388> on me.

22  [Is there] no <0369> balm <06875> in Gilead <01568>; [is

there] no <0369> physician <07495> there? why <04069> then

<03588> is not the health <0724> of the daughter <01323> of my

people <05971> recovered <05927>?

Jeremiah   9

 1. Oh that my head <07218> were waters <04325>, and mine eyes

<05869> a fountain <04726> of tears <01832>, that I might weep

<01058> day <03119> and night <03915> for the slain <02491> of

the daughter <01323> of my people <05971>!

 2  Oh that I had in the wilderness <04057> a lodging <04411>

place of wayfaring <0732> men; that I might leave <05800> my

people <05971>, and go <03212> from them! for they [be] all

<03605> adulterers <05003>, an assembly <06116> of treacherous

<0898> men.

3  And they bend <01869> their tongues <03956> [like] their bow

<07198> [for] lies <08267>: but they are not valiant <01396> for

the truth <0530> upon the earth <0776>; for they proceed <03318>

from evil <07451> to evil <07451>, and they know <03045> not me,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

4  Take ye heed <08104> every <0376> one <0376> of his

neighbour <07453>, and trust <0982> ye not in any <03605>

brother <0251>: for every <03605> brother <0251> will utterly

supplant <06117>, and every <03605> neighbour <07453> will walk

<01980> with slanders <07400>.

5  And they will deceive <02048> every <0376> one <0376> his

neighbour <07453>, and will not speak <01696> the truth <0571>:

they have taught <03925> their tongue <03956> to speak <01696>

lies <08267>, [and] weary <03811> themselves to commit <05753>

iniquity <05753>.

6  Thine habitation <03427> [is] in the midst <08432> of deceit

<04820>; through deceit <04820> they refuse <03985> to know

<03045> me, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

 7  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>

of hosts <06635>, Behold <02005>, I will melt <06884> them, and

try <0974> them; for how <0349> shall I do <06213> for the

daughter <01323> of my people <05971>?

8  Their tongue <03956> [is as] an arrow <02671> shot <07819>

out; it speaketh <01696> deceit <04820>: [one] speaketh <01696>

peaceably <07965> to his neighbour <07453> with his mouth

<06310>, but in heart <07130> he layeth <07760> his wait <0696>.

9  Shall I not visit <06485> them for these <0428> [things]?

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>: shall not my soul <05315> be

avenged <05358> on such <0834> a nation <01471> as this <02088>?

 10  For the mountains <02022> will I take <05375> up a weeping

<01065> and wailing <05092>, and for the habitations <04999> of

the wilderness <04057> a lamentation <07015>, because <03588>

they are burned <03341> up, so that none can <03201> pass

<05674> through [them]; neither <03808> can <03201> [men] hear

<08085> the voice <06963> of the cattle <04735>; both the fowl

<05775> of the heavens <08064> and the beast <0929> are fled

<05074>; they are gone <01980>.

 11  And I will make <05414> Jerusalem <03389> heaps <01530>,

[and] a den <04583> of dragons <08577>; and I will make <05414>

the cities <05892> of Judah <03063> desolate <08077>, without

<01097> an inhabitant <03427>.

 12. Who <04310> [is] the wise <02450> man <0376>, that may

understand <0995> this <02063>? and [who is he] to whom <0834>

the mouth <06310> of the LORD <03068> hath spoken <01696>, that

he may declare <05046> it, for what <04100> the land <0776>

perisheth <06> [and] is burned <03341> up like a wilderness

<04057>, that none <01997> passeth <05674> through?

13  And the LORD <03068> saith <0559>, Because <05921> they

have forsaken <05800> my law <08451> which <0834> I set <05414>

before <06440> them, and have not obeyed <08085> my voice

<06963>, neither <03808> walked <01980> therein;

14  But have walked <03212> after <0310> the imagination

<08307> of their own heart <03820>, and after <0310> Baalim

<01168>, which <0834> their fathers <01> taught <03925> them:

 15  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>;

Behold <02005>, I will feed <0398> them, [even] this <02088>

people <05971>, with wormwood <03939>, and give them water

<04325> of gall <07219> to drink <08248>.

16  I will scatter <06327> them also among the heathen <01471>,

whom <0834> neither <03808> they nor their fathers <01> have

known <03045>: and I will send <07971> a sword <02719> after

<0310> them, till <05704> I have consumed <03615> them.

 17  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

Consider <0995> ye, and call <07121> for the mourning <06969>

women, that they may come <0935>; and send <07971> for cunning

<02450> [women], that they may come <0935>:

18  And let them make haste <04116>, and take <05375> up a

wailing <05092> for us, that our eyes <05869> may run <03381>

down with tears <01832>, and our eyelids <06079> gush <05140>

out with waters <04325>.

 19  For a voice <06963> of wailing <05092> is heard <08085> out

of Zion <06726>, How <0349> are we spoiled <07703>! we are

greatly <03966> confounded <0954>, because <03588> we have

forsaken <05800> the land <0776>, because <03588> our dwellings

<04908> have cast <07993> [us] out.

20  Yet <03588> hear <08085> the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068>, O ye women <0802>, and let your ear <0241> receive

<03947> the word <01697> of his mouth <06310>, and teach <03925>

your daughters <01121> wailing <05092>, and every <0802> one her

neighbour <07468> lamentation <07015>.

21  For death <04194> is come <05927> up into our windows

<02474>, [and] is entered <0935> into our palaces <0759>, to cut

<03772> off the children <05768> from without <02351>, [and] the

young <0970> men from the streets <07339>.

 22  Speak <01696>, Thus <03541> saith <05002> the LORD <03068>,

Even the carcases <05038> of men <0120> shall fall <05307> as

dung <01828> upon the open <06440> field <07704>, and as the

handful <05995> after <0310> the harvestman <07114>, and none

<0369> shall gather <0622> [them].

 23. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Let not the

wise <02450> [man] glory <01984> in his wisdom <02451>, neither

<0408> let the mighty <01368> [man] glory <01984> in his might

<01369>, let not the rich <06223> [man] glory <01984> in his

riches <06239>:

24  But let him that glorieth <01984> glory <01984> in this

<02063>, that he understandeth <07919> and knoweth <03045> me,

that I [am] the LORD <03068> which exercise <06213>

lovingkindness <02617>, judgment <04941>, and righteousness

<06666>, in the earth <0776>: for in these <0428> [things] I

delight <02654>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

 25  Behold <02009>, the days <03117> come <0935>, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>, that I will punish <06485> all <03605> [them

which are] circumcised <04135> with the uncircumcised <06190>;

26  Egypt <04714>, and Judah <03063>, and Edom <0123>, and the

children <01121> of Ammon <05983>, and Moab <04124>, and all

<03605> [that are] in the utmost <07112> corners <06285>, that

dwell <03427> in the wilderness <04057>: for all <03605> [these]

nations <01471> [are] uncircumcised <06189>, and all <03605> the

house <01004> of Israel <03478> [are] uncircumcised <06189> in

the heart <03820>.

Jeremiah  10

 1. Hear <08085> ye the word <01697> which <0834> the LORD

<03068> speaketh <01696> unto you, O house <01004> of Israel

<03478>:

 2  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Learn <03925>

not the way <01870> of the heathen <01471>, and be not dismayed

<02865> at the signs <0226> of heaven <08064>; for the heathen

<01471> are dismayed <02865> at them.

3  For the customs <02708> of the people <05971> [are] vain

<01892>: for [one] cutteth <03772> a tree <06086> out of the

forest <03293>, the work <04639> of the hands <03027> of the

workman <02796>, with the axe <04621>.

4  They deck <03302> it with silver <03701> and with gold

<02091>; they fasten <02388> it with nails <04548> and with

hammers <04717>, that it move <06328> not.

5  They [are] upright <04749> as the palm <08560> tree, but

speak <01696> not: they must needs be borne <05375>, because

<03588> they cannot <03808> go <06805>. Be not afraid <03372> of

them; for they cannot <03808> do evil <07489>, neither also

<01571> [is it] in them to do good <03190>.

6  Forasmuch as [there is] none <0369> like <03644> unto thee,

O LORD <03068>; thou [art] great <01419>, and thy name <08034>

[is] great <01419> in might <01369>.

 7  Who <04310> would not fear <03372> thee, O King <04428> of

nations <01471>? for to thee doth it appertain <02969>:

forasmuch as among all <03605> the wise <02450> [men] of the

nations <01471>, and in all <03605> their kingdoms <04467>,

[there is] none <0369> like <03644> unto thee.

8  But they are altogether <0259> brutish <01197> and foolish

<03688>: the stock <06086> [is] a doctrine <04148> of vanities

<01892>.

9  Silver <03701> spread <07554> into plates is brought <0935>

from Tarshish <08659>, and gold <02091> from Uphaz <0210>, the

work <04639> of the workman <02796>, and of the hands <03027> of

the founder <06884>: blue <08504> and purple <0713> [is] their

clothing <03830>: they [are] all <03605> the work <04639> of

cunning <02450> [men].

10  But the LORD <03068> [is] the true <0571> God <0430>, he

[is] the living <02416> God <0430>, and an everlasting <05769>

king <04428>: at his wrath <07110> the earth <0776> shall

tremble <07493>, and the nations <01471> shall not be able

<03201> to abide <03557> his indignation <02195>.

11  Thus <01836> shall ye say <0560> unto them, The gods <0426>

that have not made <05648> the heavens <08065> and the earth

<0778>, [even] they shall perish <07> from the earth <0772>, and

from under <08460> these <0429> heavens <08065>.

12  He hath made <06213> the earth <0776> by his power <03581>,

he hath established <03559> the world <08398> by his wisdom

<02451>, and hath stretched <05186> out the heavens <08064> by

his discretion <08394>.

13  When he uttereth <05414> his voice <06963>, [there is] a

multitude <01995> of waters <04325> in the heavens <08064>, and

he causeth the vapours <05387> to ascend <05927> from the ends

<07097> of the earth <0776>; he maketh <06213> lightnings

<01300> with rain <04306>, and bringeth <03318> forth <03318>

the wind <07307> out of his treasures <0214>.

14  Every <03605> man <0120> is brutish <01197> in [his]

knowledge <01847>: every <03605> founder <06884> is confounded

<03001> by the graven <06459> image <06459>: for his molten

<05262> image [is] falsehood <08267>, and [there is] no <03808>

breath <07307> in them.

15  They [are] vanity <01892>, [and] the work <04639> of errors

<08595>: in the time <06256> of their visitation <06486> they

shall perish <06>.

16  The portion <02506> of Jacob <03290> [is] not like them:

for he [is] the former <03335> of all <03605> [things]; and

Israel <03478> [is] the rod <07626> of his inheritance <05159>:

The LORD <03068> of hosts <06635> [is] his name <08034>.

 17. Gather <0622> up thy wares <03666> out of the land <0776>,

O inhabitant <03427> of the fortress <04693>.

18  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Behold

<02005>, I will sling <07049> out the inhabitants <03427> of the

land <0776> at this <02063> once <06471>, and will distress

<06887> them, that they may find <04672> [it so].

19  Woe <0188> is me for my hurt <07667>! my wound <04347> is

grievous <02470>: but I said <0559>, Truly <0389> this <02088>

[is] a grief <02483>, and I must bear <05375> it.

20  My tabernacle <0168> is spoiled <07703>, and all <03605> my

cords <04340> are broken <05423>: my children <01121> are gone

<03318> forth <03318> of me, and they [are] not: [there is] none

<0369> to stretch <05186> forth my tent <0168> any more <05750>,

and to set <06965> up my curtains <03407>.

21  For the pastors <07462> are become <01197> brutish <01197>,

and have not sought <01875> the LORD <03068>: therefore they

shall not prosper <07919>, and all <03605> their flocks <04830>

shall be scattered <06327>.

22  Behold <02009>, the noise <06963> of the bruit <08052> is

come <0935>, and a great <01419> commotion <07494> out of the

north <06828> country <0776>, to make <07760> the cities <05892>

of Judah <03063> desolate <08077>, [and] a den <04583> of

dragons <08577>.

 23  O LORD <03068>, I know <03045> that the way <01870> of man

<0120> [is] not in himself: [it is] not in man that walketh

<01980> to direct <03559> his steps <06806>.

24  O LORD <03068>, correct <03256> me, but with judgment

<04941>; not in thine anger <0639>, lest <06435> thou bring me

to nothing <04591>.

25  Pour <08210> out thy fury <02534> upon the heathen <01471>

that know <03045> thee not, and upon the families <04940> that

call <07121> not on thy name <08034>: for they have eaten <0398>

up Jacob <03290>, and devoured <0398> him, and consumed <03615>

him, and have made his habitation <05116> desolate <08074>.

Jeremiah  11

 1. The word <01697> that came <01961> to Jeremiah <03414> from

the LORD <03068>, saying <0559>,

2  Hear <08085> ye the words <01697> of this <02088> covenant

<01285>, and speak <01696> unto the men <0376> of Judah <03063>,

and to the inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389>;

3  And say <0559> thou unto them, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the

LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>; Cursed <0779> [be]

the man <0376> that obeyeth <08085> not the words <01697> of

this <02088> covenant <01285>,

 4  Which <0834> I commanded <06680> your fathers <01> in the

day <03117> [that] I brought <03318> them forth <03318> out of

the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>, from the iron <01270> furnace

<03564>, saying <0559>, Obey <08085> my voice <06963>, and do

<06213> them, according to all <03605> which <0834> I command

<06680> you: so shall ye be my people <05971>, and I will be

your God <0430>:

 5  That I may perform <06965> the oath <07621> which <0834> I

have sworn <07650> unto your fathers <01>, to give <05414> them

a land <0776> flowing <02100> with milk <02461> and honey

<01706>, as [it is] this <02088> day <03117>. Then answered

<06030> I, and said <0559>, So <0543> be it, O LORD <03068>.

6  Then the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto me, Proclaim <07121>

all <03605> these <0428> words <01697> in the cities <05892> of

Judah <03063>, and in the streets <02351> of Jerusalem <03389>,

saying <0559>, Hear <08085> ye the words <01697> of this <02088>

covenant <01285>, and do <06213> them.

7  For I earnestly protested <05749> unto your fathers <01> in

the day <03117> [that] I brought <05927> them up out of the land

<0776> of Egypt <04714>, [even] unto this <02088> day <03117>,

rising <07925> early <07925> and protesting <05749>, saying

<0559>, Obey <08085> my voice <06963>.

8  Yet they obeyed <08085> not, nor <03808> inclined <05186>

their ear <0241>, but walked <03212> every <0376> one <0376> in

the imagination <08307> of their evil <07451> heart <03820>:

therefore I will bring <0935> upon them all <03605> the words

<01697> of this <02088> covenant <01285>, which <0834> I

commanded <06680> [them] to do <06213>; but they did <06213>

[them] not.

9  And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto me, A conspiracy

<07195> is found <04672> among the men <0376> of Judah <03063>,

and among the inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389>.

10  They are turned <07725> back <07725> to the iniquities

<05771> of their forefathers, which <0834> refused <03985> to

hear <08085> my words <01697>; and they went <01980> after

<0310> other <0312> gods <0430> to serve <05647> them: the house

<01004> of Israel <03478> and the house <01004> of Judah <03063>

have broken <06565> my covenant <01285> which <0834> I made

<03772> with their fathers <01>.

 11. Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>, Behold <02005>, I will bring <0935> evil <07451> upon

them, which <0834> they shall not be able <03201> to escape

<03318>; and though they shall cry <02199> unto me, I will not

hearken <08085> unto them.

12  Then shall the cities <05892> of Judah <03063> and

inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389> go <01980>, and cry

<02199> unto the gods <0430> unto whom they offer incense

<06999>: but they shall not save <03467> them at all in the time

<06256> of their trouble <07451>.

13  For [according to] the number <04557> of thy cities <05892>

were thy gods <0430>, O Judah <03063>; and [according to] the

number <04557> of the streets <02351> of Jerusalem <03389> have

ye set <07760> up altars <04196> to [that] shameful <01322>

thing, [even] altars <04196> to burn <06999> incense <06999>

unto Baal <01168>.

14  Therefore pray <06419> not thou for this <02088> people

<05971>, neither <0408> lift <05375> up a cry <07440> or prayer

<08605> for them: for I will not hear <08085> [them] in the time

<06256> that they cry <07121> unto me for their trouble <07451>.

15  What <04100> hath my beloved <03039> to do in mine house

<01004>, [seeing] she hath wrought <06213> lewdness <04209> with

many <07227>, and the holy <06944> flesh <01320> is passed

<05674> from thee? when <03588> thou doest evil <07451>, then

<0227> thou rejoicest <05937>.

 16  The LORD <03068> called <07121> thy name <08034>, A green

<07488> olive <02132> tree, fair <03303>, [and] of goodly fruit

<06529>: with the noise <06963> of a great <01419> tumult

<01999> he hath kindled <03341> fire <0784> upon it, and the

branches <01808> of it are broken <07489>.

17  For the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>, that planted <05193>

thee, hath pronounced <01696> evil <07451> against <05921> thee,

for the evil <07451> of the house <01004> of Israel <03478> and

of the house <01004> of Judah <03063>, which <0834> they have

done <06213> against themselves <01992> to provoke me to anger

<03707> in offering incense <06999> unto Baal <01168>.

 18. And the LORD <03068> hath given me knowledge <03045> [of

it], and I know <03045> [it]: then <0227> thou shewedst <07200>

me their doings <04611>.

19  But I [was] like a lamb <03532> [or] an ox <0441> [that] is

brought <02986> to the slaughter <02873>; and I knew <03045> not

that they had devised <02803> devices <04284> against <05921> me,

[saying], Let us destroy <07843> the tree <06086> with the

fruit <03899> thereof, and let us cut <03772> him off from the

land <0776> of the living <02416>, that his name <08034> may be

no <03808> more <05750> remembered <02142>.

 20  But, O LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>, that judgest <08199>

righteously <06664>, that triest <0974> the reins <03629> and

the heart <03820>, let me see <07200> thy vengeance <05360> on

them: for unto thee have I revealed <01540> my cause <07379>.

 21  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of the men <0582> of Anathoth <06068>, that seek <01245>

thy life <05315>, saying <0559>, Prophesy <05012> not in the

name <08034> of the LORD <03068>, that thou die <04191> not by

our hand <03027>:

 22  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635>, Behold <02005>, I will punish <06485>

them: the young <0970> men shall die <04191> by the sword

<02719>; their sons <01121> and their daughters <01121> shall

die <04191> by famine <07458>:

23  And there shall be no <03808> remnant <07611> of them: for

I will bring <0935> evil <07451> upon the men <0582> of Anathoth

<06068>, [even] the year <08141> of their visitation <06486>.

Jeremiah  12

 1. Righteous <06662> [art] thou, O LORD <03068>, when <03588> I

plead <07378> with thee: yet <0389> let me talk <01696> with

thee of [thy] judgments <04941>: Wherefore <04069> doth the way

<01870> of the wicked <07563> prosper <06743>? [wherefore] are

all <03605> they happy <07951> that deal very <0899>

treacherously <0898>?

2  Thou hast planted <05193> them, yea <01571>, they have taken

root <08327>: they grow <03212>, yea <01571>, they bring <06213>

forth <06213> fruit <06529>: thou [art] near <07138> in their

mouth <06310>, and far <07350> from their reins <03629>.

3  But thou, O LORD <03068>, knowest <03045> me: thou hast seen

<07200> me, and tried <0974> mine heart <03820> toward <0854>

thee: pull <05423> them out like sheep <06629> for the slaughter

<02873>, and prepare <06942> them for the day <03117> of

slaughter <02028>.

 4  How <05704> long <05704> shall the land <0776> mourn <056>,

and the herbs <06212> of every <03605> field <07704> wither

<03001>, for the wickedness <07451> of them that dwell <03427>

therein? the beasts <0929> are consumed <05595>, and the birds

<05775>; because <03588> they said <0559>, He shall not see

<07200> our last <0319> end.

5  If <03588> thou hast run <07323> with the footmen <07273>,

and they have wearied <03811> thee, then how <0349> canst thou

contend <08474> with horses <05483>? and [if] in the land <0776>

of peace <07965>, [wherein] thou trustedst <0982>, [they wearied

thee], then how <0349> wilt thou do <06213> in the swelling

<01347> of Jordan <03383>?

6  For even <01571> thy brethren <0251>, and the house <01004>

of thy father <01>, even <01571> they have dealt treacherously

<0898> with thee; yea <01571>, they have called <07121> a

multitude <04392> after <0310> thee: believe <0539> them not,

though <03588> they speak <01696> fair <02896> words unto thee.

 7. I have forsaken <05800> mine house <01004>, I have left

<05203> mine heritage <05159>; I have given <05414> the dearly

beloved <03039> of my soul <05315> into the hand <03709> of her

enemies <0341>.

8  Mine heritage <05159> is unto me as a lion <0738> in the

forest <03293>; it crieth out against <05921> me: therefore have

I hated <08130> it.

9  Mine heritage <05159> [is] unto me [as] a speckled <06641>

bird <05861>, the birds <05861> round <05439> about [are]

against <05921> her; come <03212> ye, assemble <0622> all

<03605> the beasts <02416> of the field <07704>, come <0857> to

devour <0402>.

 10  Many <07227> pastors <07462> have destroyed <07843> my

vineyard <03754>, they have trodden <0947> my portion <02513>

under foot <0947>, they have made <05414> my pleasant <02532>

portion <02513> a desolate <08077> wilderness <04057>.

11  They have made <07760> it desolate <08074>, [and being]

desolate <08077> it mourneth <056> unto me; the whole <03605>

land <0776> is made desolate <08074>, because <03588> no <0369>

man <0376> layeth <07760> [it] to heart <03820>.

12  The spoilers <07703> are come <0935> upon all <03605> high

<08205> places through the wilderness <04057>: for the sword

<02719> of the LORD <03068> shall devour <0398> from the [one]

end <07097> of the land <0776> even to the [other] end <07097>

of the land <0776>: no <0369> flesh <01320> shall have peace

<07965>.

13  They have sown <02232> wheat <02406>, but shall reap

<07114> thorns <06975>: they have put themselves to pain <02470>,

[but] shall not profit <03276>: and they shall be ashamed

<0954> of your revenues <08393> because of the fierce <02740>

anger <0639> of the LORD <03068>.

 14. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> against <05921>

all <03605> mine evil <07451> neighbours <07934>, that touch

<05060> the inheritance <05159> which <0834> I have caused my

people <05971> Israel <03478> to inherit <05157>; Behold <02005>,

I will pluck <05428> them out of their land <0127>, and pluck

<05428> out the house <01004> of Judah <03063> from among

<08432> them.

15  And it shall come to pass, after <0310> that I have plucked

<05428> them out I will return <07725>, and have compassion

<07355> on them, and will bring <07725> them again <07725>,

every man <0376> to his heritage <05159>, and every man <0376>

to his land <0776>.

16  And it shall come to pass, if <0518> they will diligently

learn <03925> the ways <01870> of my people <05971>, to swear

<07650> by my name <08034>, The LORD <03068> liveth <02416>; as

they taught <03925> my people <05971> to swear <07650> by Baal

<01168>; then shall they be built <01129> in the midst <08432>

of my people <05971>.

17  But if <0518> they will not obey <08085>, I will utterly

pluck <05428> up and destroy <06> that nation <01471>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>.

Jeremiah  13

 1. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> unto me, Go

<01980> and get <07069> thee a linen <06593> girdle <0232>, and

put <07760> it upon thy loins <04975>, and put <07760> it not in

water <04325>.

 2  So I got <07069> a girdle <0232> according to the word

<01697> of the LORD <03068>, and put <07760> [it] on <05921> my

loins <04975>.

3  And the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> unto

me the second <08145> time, saying <0559>,

4  Take <03947> the girdle <0232> that thou hast got <07069>,

which <0834> [is] upon thy loins <04975>, and arise <06965>, go

<03212> to Euphrates <06578>, and hide <02934> it there <08033>

in a hole <05357> of the rock.

 5  So I went <03212>, and hid <02934> it by Euphrates <06578>,

as the LORD <03068> commanded <06680> me.

6  And it came <01961> to pass after <07093> many <07227> days

<03117>, that the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto me, Arise

<06965>, go <03212> to Euphrates <06578>, and take <03947> the

girdle <0232> from thence <08033>, which <0834> I commanded

<06680> thee to hide <02934> there <08033>.

 7  Then I went <03212> to Euphrates <06578>, and digged <02658>,

and took <03947> the girdle <0232> from the place <04725> where

I had hid <02934> it: and, behold <02009>, the girdle <0232> was

marred <07843>, it was profitable <06743> for nothing.

8  Then the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> unto

me, saying <0559>,

 9  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, After <03602>

this manner <03541> will I mar <07843> the pride <01347> of

Judah <03063>, and the great <07227> pride <01347> of Jerusalem

<03389>.

 10  This <02088> evil <07451> people <05971>, which refuse

<03987> to hear <08085> my words <01697>, which walk <01980> in

the imagination <08307> of their heart <03820>, and walk <01980>

after <0310> other <0312> gods <0430>, to serve <05647> them,

and to worship <07812> them, shall even be as this <02088>

girdle <0232>, which <0834> is good <06743> for nothing.

11  For as the girdle <0232> cleaveth <01692> to the loins

<04975> of a man <0376>, so <03651> have I caused to cleave

<01692> unto me the whole <03605> house <01004> of Israel

<03478> and the whole <03605> house <01004> of Judah <03063>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>; that they might be unto me for a

people <05971>, and for a name <08034>, and for a praise <08416>,

and for a glory <08597>: but they would not hear <08085>.

 12. Therefore thou shalt speak <0559> unto them this <02088>

word <01697>; Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> God

<0430> of Israel <03478>, Every <03605> bottle <05035> shall be

filled <04390> with wine <03196>: and they shall say <0559> unto

thee, Do we not certainly know <03045> that every <03605> bottle

<05035> shall be filled <04390> with wine <03196>?

13  Then shalt thou say <0559> unto them, Thus <03541> saith

<0559> the LORD <03068>, Behold <02005>, I will fill <05433> all

<03605> the inhabitants <03427> of this land <0776>, even the

kings <04428> that sit <03427> upon David's <01732> throne

<03678>, and the priests <03548>, and the prophets <05030>, and

all <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389>, with

drunkenness <07943>.

 14  And I will dash <05310> them one <0376> against <0413>

another <0250>, even the fathers <01> and the sons <01121>

together <03162>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>: I will not

pity <02550>, nor <03808> spare <02347>, nor <03808> have mercy

<07355>, but destroy <07843> them.

15  Hear <08085> ye, and give ear <0238>; be not proud <01341>:

for the LORD <03068> hath spoken <01696>.

16  Give <05414> glory <03519> to the LORD <03068> your God

<0430>, before <02962> he cause darkness <02821>, and before

<02962> your feet <07272> stumble <05062> upon the dark <05399>

mountains <02022>, and, while ye look <06960> for light <0216>,

he turn <07760> it into the shadow <06757> of death <06757>,

[and] make <07896> [it] gross <06205> darkness <06205>.

17  But if <0518> ye will not hear <08085> it, my soul <05315>

shall weep <01058> in secret <04565> places for [your] pride

<01466>; and mine eye <05869> shall weep <01830> sore, and run

<03381> down with tears <01832>, because <03588> the LORD'S

<03068> flock <05739> is carried <07617> away captive <07617>.

18  Say <0559> unto the king <04428> and to the queen <01377>,

Humble <08213> yourselves, sit <03427> down: for your

principalities <04761> shall come <03381> down <03381>, [even]

the crown <05850> of your glory <08597>.

19  The cities <05892> of the south <05045> shall be shut

<05462> up, and none <0369> shall open <06605> [them]: Judah

<03063> shall be carried <01540> away captive <01540> all

<03605> of it, it shall be wholly <07965> carried <01540> away

captive <01540>.

20  Lift <05375> up your eyes <05869>, and behold <07200> them

that come <0935> from the north <06828>: where <0346> [is] the

flock <05739> [that] was given <05414> thee, thy beautiful

<08597> flock <06629>?

21  What <04100> wilt thou say <0559> when <03588> he shall

punish <06485> thee? for thou hast taught <03925> them [to be]

captains <0441>, [and] as chief <07218> over <05921> thee: shall

not sorrows <02256> take <0270> thee, as a woman <0802> in

travail <03205>?

 22. And if <03588> thou say <0559> in thine heart <03824>,

Wherefore <04069> come <07122> these <0428> things upon me? For

the greatness <07230> of thine iniquity <05771> are thy skirts

<07757> discovered <01540>, [and] thy heels <06119> made bare

<02554>.

23  Can the Ethiopian <03569> change <02015> his skin <05785>,

or the leopard <05246> his spots <02272>? [then] may <03201> ye

also <01571> do good <03190>, that are accustomed <03928> to do

evil <07489>.

24  Therefore will I scatter <06327> them as the stubble

<07179> that passeth <05674> away by the wind <07307> of the

wilderness <04057>.

25  This <02088> [is] thy lot <01486>, the portion <04490> of

thy measures <04055> from me, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>;

because <0834> thou hast forgotten <07911> me, and trusted

<0982> in falsehood <08267>.

26  Therefore will I discover <02834> thy skirts <07757> upon

thy face <06440>, that thy shame <07036> may appear <07200>.

27  I have seen <07200> thine adulteries <05004>, and thy

neighings <04684>, the lewdness <02154> of thy whoredom <02184>,

[and] thine abominations <08251> on <05921> the hills <01389> in

the fields <07704>. Woe <0188> unto thee, O Jerusalem <03389>!

wilt thou not be made clean <02891>? when [shall it] once

<05750> [be]?

Jeremiah  14

 1. The word <01697> of the LORD <03068> that came <01961> to

Jeremiah <03414> concerning the dearth <01226>.

2  Judah <03063> mourneth <056>, and the gates <08179> thereof

languish <0535>; they are black <06937> unto the ground <0776>;

and the cry <06682> of Jerusalem <03389> is gone <05927> up.

3  And their nobles <0117> have sent <07971> their little

<06810> ones to the waters <04325>: they came <0935> to the pits

<01356>, [and] found <04672> no <03808> water <04325>; they

returned <07725> with their vessels <03627> empty <07387>; they

were ashamed <0954> and confounded <03637>, and covered <02645>

their heads <07218>.

4  Because <05668> the ground <0127> is chapt <02865>, for

there was no <03808> rain <01653> in the earth <0776>, the

plowmen <0406> were ashamed <0954>, they covered <02645> their

heads <07218>.

5  Yea, the hind <0365> also <01571> calved <03205> in the

field <07704>, and forsook <05800> [it], because <03588> there

was no <03808> grass <01758>.

6  And the wild <06501> asses <06501> did stand <05975> in the

high <08205> places, they snuffed <07602> up the wind <07307>

like dragons <08577>; their eyes <05869> did fail <03615>,

because <03588> [there was] no <0369> grass <06212>.

 7  O LORD <03068>, though <0518> our iniquities <05771> testify

<06030> against us, do <06213> thou [it] for thy name's <08034>

sake <04616>: for our backslidings <04878> are many <07231>; we

have sinned <02398> against thee.

 8  O the hope <04723> of Israel <03478>, the saviour <03467>

thereof in time <06256> of trouble <06869>, why <04100>

shouldest thou be as a stranger <01616> in the land <0776>, and

as a wayfaring <0732> man [that] turneth <05186> aside <05186>

to tarry <03885> for a night?

9  Why <04100> shouldest thou be as a man <0376> astonied

<01724>, as a mighty <01368> man <0376> [that] cannot save

<03467>? yet thou, O LORD <03068>, [art] in the midst <07130> of

us, and we are called <07121> by thy name <08034>; leave <03241>

us not.

 10. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> unto this

<02088> people <05971>, Thus <03651> have they loved <0157> to

wander <05128>, they have not refrained <02820> their feet

<07272>, therefore the LORD <03068> doth not accept <07521> them;

he will now <04994> remember <02142> their iniquity <05771>,

and visit <06485> their sins <02403>.

11  Then said <0559> the LORD <03068> unto me, Pray <06419> not

for this <02088> people <05971> for [their] good <02896>.

 12  When <03588> they fast <06684>, I will not hear <08085>

their cry <07440>; and when <03588> they offer <05927> burnt

<05930> offering and an oblation <04503>, I will not accept

<07521> them: but I will consume <03615> them by the sword

<02719>, and by the famine <07458>, and by the pestilence

<01698>.

 13  Then said <0559> I, Ah <0162>, Lord <0136> GOD <03069>!

behold <02009>, the prophets <05030> say <0559> unto them, Ye

shall not see <07200> the sword <02719>, neither <03808> shall

ye have famine <07458>; but I will give <05414> you assured

<0571> peace <07965> in this <02088> place <04725>.

14  Then the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto me, The prophets

<05030> prophesy <05012> lies <08267> in my name <08034>: I sent

<07971> them not, neither <03808> have I commanded <06680> them,

neither <03808> spake <01696> unto them: they prophesy <05012>

unto you a false <08267> vision <02377> and divination <07081>,

and a thing of nought <0434>, and the deceit <08649> of their

heart <03820>.

 15  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> concerning <05921> the prophets <05030> that prophesy

<05012> in my name <08034>, and I sent <07971> them not, yet

they say <0559>, Sword <02719> and famine <07458> shall not be

in this <02063> land <0776>; By sword <02719> and famine <07458>

shall those <01992> prophets <05030> be consumed <08552>.

16  And the people <05971> to whom they prophesy <05012> shall

be cast <07993> out in the streets <02351> of Jerusalem <03389>

because <06440> of the famine <07458> and the sword <02719>; and

they shall have none <0369> to bury <06912> them, them, their

wives <0802>, nor their sons <01121>, nor their daughters

<01121>: for I will pour <08210> their wickedness <07451> upon

them.

 17. Therefore thou shalt say <0559> this <02088> word <01697>

unto them; Let mine eyes <05869> run <03381> down with tears

<01832> night <03915> and day <03119>, and let them not cease

<01820>: for the virgin <01330> daughter <01323> of my people

<05971> is broken <07665> with a great <01419> breach <07667>,

with a very <03966> grievous <02470> blow <04347>.

 18  If <0518> I go <03318> forth <03318> into the field <07704>,

then behold <02009> the slain <02491> with the sword <02719>!

and if <0518> I enter <0935> into the city <05892>, then behold

<02009> them that are sick <08463> with famine <07458>! yea,

both <01571> the prophet <05030> and the priest <03548> go

<05503> about <05503> into <0413> a land <0776> that they know

<03045> not.

19  Hast thou utterly rejected <03988> Judah <03063>? hath thy

soul <05315> lothed <01602> Zion <06726>? why <04069> hast thou

smitten <05221> us, and [there is] no <0369> healing <04832> for

us? we looked <06960> for peace <07965>, and [there is] no

<0369> good <02896>; and for the time <06256> of healing <04832>,

 and behold <02009> trouble <01205>!

 20  We acknowledge <03045>, O LORD <03068>, our wickedness

<07562>, [and] the iniquity <05771> of our fathers <01>: for we

have sinned <02398> against thee.

21  Do not abhor <05006> [us], for thy name's <08034> sake

<04616>, do not disgrace <05034> the throne <03678> of thy glory

<03519>: remember <02142>, break <06565> not thy covenant

<01285> with us.

22  Are there [any] among the vanities <01892> of the Gentiles

<01471> that can cause rain <01653>? or can the heavens <08064>

give <05414> showers <07241>? [art] not thou he, O LORD <03068>

our God <0430>? therefore we will wait <06960> upon thee: for

thou hast made <06213> all <03605> these <0428> [things].

Jeremiah  15

 1. Then said <0559> the LORD <03068> unto me, Though <0518>

Moses <04872> and Samuel <08050> stood <05975> before <06440> me,

[yet] my mind <05315> [could] not [be] toward <0413> this

<02088> people <05971>: cast <07971> [them] out of my sight

<06440>, and let them go <03318> forth <03318>.

2  And it shall come <01961> to pass, if <03588> they say

<0559> unto thee, Whither <0575> shall we go <03318> forth

<03318>? then thou shalt tell <0559> them, Thus <03541> saith

<0559> the LORD <03068>; Such as [are] for death <04194>, to

death <04194>; and such as [are] for the sword <02719>, to the

sword <02719>; and such as [are] for the famine <07458>, to the

famine <07458>; and such as [are] for the captivity <07628>, to

the captivity <07628>.

 3  And I will appoint <06485> over <05921> them four <0702>

kinds <04940>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>: the sword <02719>

to slay <02026>, and the dogs <03611> to tear <05498>, and the

fowls <05775> of the heaven <08064>, and the beasts <0929> of

the earth <0776>, to devour <0398> and destroy <07843>.

4  And I will cause <05414> them to be removed <02189> into all

<03605> kingdoms <04467> of the earth <0776>, because <01558> of

Manasseh <04519> the son <01121> of Hezekiah <02396> king

<04428> of Judah <03063>, for [that] which <0834> he did <06213>

in Jerusalem <03389>.

5  For who <04310> shall have pity <02550> upon thee, O

Jerusalem <03389>? or who <04310> shall bemoan <05110> thee? or

who shall go <05493> aside <05493> to ask <07592> how thou doest

<07965>?

6  Thou hast forsaken <05203> me, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>, thou art gone <03212> backward <0268>: therefore will I

stretch <05186> out my hand <03027> against <05921> thee, and

destroy <07843> thee; I am weary <03811> with repenting <05162>.

7  And I will fan <02219> them with a fan <02219> in the gates

<08179> of the land <0776>; I will bereave <07921> [them] of

children, I will destroy <06> my people <05971>, [since] they

return <07725> not from their ways <01870>.

8  Their widows <0490> are increased <06105> to me above the

sand <02344> of the seas <03220>: I have brought <0935> upon

them against <05921> the mother <0517> of the young <0970> men a

spoiler <07703> at noonday <06672>: I have caused [him] to fall

<05307> upon it suddenly <06597>, and terrors <0928> upon the

city <05892>.

9  She that hath borne <03205> seven <07651> languisheth <0535>:

she hath given <05301> up the ghost <05315>; her sun <08121> is

gone <0935> down while [it was] yet <05750> day <03119>: she

hath been <01961> ashamed <0954> and confounded <02659>: and the

residue <07611> of them will I deliver <05414> to the sword

<02719> before <06440> their enemies <0341>, saith <05002> the

LORD <03068>.

 10. Woe <0188> is me, my mother <0517>, that thou hast borne

<03205> me a man <0376> of strife <07379> and a man <0376> of

contention <04066> to the whole <03605> earth <0776>! I have

neither <03808> lent <05383> on usury <05383>, nor <03808> men

have lent <05383> to me on usury <05383>; [yet] every <03605>

one of them doth curse <07043> me.

11  The LORD <03068> said <0559>, Verily it shall be well

<02896> with thy remnant <08293>; verily <0518> I will cause the

enemy <0341> to entreat <06293> thee [well] in the time <06256>

of evil <07451> and in the time <06256> of affliction <06869>.

12  Shall iron <01270> break <07489> the northern <06828> iron

<01270> and the steel <05178>?

13  Thy substance <02428> and thy treasures <0214> will I give

<05414> to the spoil <0957> without price <04242>, and [that]

for all <03605> thy sins <02403>, even in all <03605> thy

borders <01366>.

14  And I will make [thee] to pass <05674> with thine enemies

<0341> into a land <0776> [which] thou knowest <03045> not: for

a fire <0784> is kindled <06919> in mine anger <0639>, [which]

shall burn <03344> upon you.

 15. O LORD <03068>, thou knowest <03045>: remember <02142> me,

and visit <06485> me, and revenge <05358> me of my persecutors

<07291>; take <03947> me not away in thy longsuffering: know

<03045> that for thy sake I have suffered <05375> rebuke <02781>.

 16  Thy words <01697> were found <04672>, and I did eat <0398>

them; and thy word <01697> was unto me the joy <08342> and

rejoicing <08057> of mine heart <03824>: for I am called <07121>

by thy name <08034>, O LORD <03068> God <0430> of hosts <06635>.

17  I sat <03427> not in the assembly <05475> of the mockers

<07832>, nor rejoiced <05937>; I sat <03427> alone <0909>

because <06440> of thy hand <03027>: for thou hast filled

<04390> me with indignation <02195>.

18  Why <04100> is my pain <03511> perpetual <05331>, and my

wound <04347> incurable <0605>, [which] refuseth <03985> to be

healed <07495>? wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar <0391>,

[and as] waters <04325> [that] fail <0539>?

 19  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>, If <0518> thou return <07725>, then will I bring

<07725> thee again <07725>, [and] thou shalt stand <05975>

before <06440> me: and if <0518> thou take <03318> forth <03318>

the precious <03368> from the vile <02151>, thou shalt be as my

mouth <06310>: let them return <07725> unto thee; but return

<07725> not thou unto them.

20  And I will make <05414> thee unto this <02088> people

<05971> a fenced <01219> brasen <05178> wall <02346>: and they

shall fight <03898> against <0413> thee, but they shall not

prevail <03201> against thee: for I [am] with thee to save

<03467> thee and to deliver <05337> thee, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>.

21  And I will deliver <05337> thee out of the hand <03027> of

the wicked <07451>, and I will redeem <06299> thee out of the

hand <03709> of the terrible <06184>.

Jeremiah  16

 1. The word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> also unto

me, saying,

2  Thou shalt not take <03947> thee a wife <0802>, neither

<03808> shalt thou have sons <01121> or <0176> daughters <01121>

in this <02088> place <04725>.

3  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> concerning

<05921> the sons <01121> and concerning <05921> the daughters

<01121> that are born <03205> in this <02088> place <04725>, and

concerning <05921> their mothers <0517> that bare <03205> them,

and concerning <05921> their fathers <01> that begat <03205>

them in this <02088> land <0776>;

 4  They shall die <04191> of grievous <08463> deaths <04463>;

they shall not be lamented <05594>; neither <03808> shall they

be buried <06912>; [but] they shall be as dung <01828> upon the

face <06440> of the earth <0127>: and they shall be consumed

<03615> by the sword <02719>, and by famine <07458>; and their

carcases <05038> shall be meat <03978> for the fowls <05775> of

heaven <08064>, and for the beasts <0929> of the earth <0776>.

 5  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Enter <0935>

not into the house <01004> of mourning <04798>, neither <03808>

go <03212> to lament <05594> nor <03808> bemoan <05110> them:

for I have taken <0622> away my peace <07965> from this <02088>

people <05971>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, [even <0853>]

lovingkindness <02617> and mercies <07356>.

6  Both the great <01419> and the small <06996> shall die

<04191> in this <02063> land <0776>: they shall not be buried

<06912>, neither <03808> shall [men] lament <05594> for them,

nor <03808> cut <01413> themselves, nor <03808> make themselves

bald <07139> for them:

7  Neither <03808> shall [men] tear <06536> [themselves] for

them in mourning <060>, to comfort <05162> them for the dead

<04191>; neither <03808> shall [men] give them the cup <03563>

of consolation <08575> to drink <08248> for their father <01> or

for their mother <0517>.

8  Thou shalt not also go <0935> into the house <01004> of

feasting <04960>, to sit <03427> with them to eat <0398> and to

drink <08354>.

9  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts

<06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; Behold <02005>, I

will cause to cease <07673> out of this <02088> place <04725> in

your eyes <05869>, and in your days <03117>, the voice <06963>

of mirth <08342>, and the voice <06963> of gladness <08057>, the

voice <06963> of the bridegroom <02860>, and the voice <06963>

of the bride <03618>.

 10. And it shall come <01961> to pass, when <03588> thou shalt

shew <05046> this <02088> people <05971> all <03605> these

<0428> words <01697>, and they shall say <0559> unto thee,

Wherefore hath the LORD <03068> pronounced <01696> all <03605>

this <02063> great <01419> evil <07451> against <05921> us? or

what <04100> [is] our iniquity <05771>? or what <04100> [is] our

sin <02403> that we have committed <02398> against the LORD

<03068> our God <0430>?

11  Then shalt thou say <0559> unto them, Because your fathers

<01> have forsaken <05800> me, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>,

and have walked <03212> after <0310> other <0312> gods <0430>,

and have served <05647> them, and have worshipped <07812> them,

and have forsaken <05800> me, and have not kept <08104> my law

<08451>;

12  And ye have done <06213> worse <07489> than your fathers

<01>; for, behold <02009>, ye walk <01980> every <0376> one

<0376> after <0310> the imagination <08307> of his evil <07451>

heart <03820>, that they may not hearken <08085> unto me:

13  Therefore will I cast <02904> you out of this <02063> land

<0776> into <05921> a land <0776> that ye know <03045> not,

[neither] ye nor your fathers <01>; and there <08033> shall ye

serve <05647> other <0312> gods <0430> day <03119> and night

<03915>; where <0834> I will not shew <05414> you favour <02594>.

 14. Therefore <03651>, behold <02009>, the days <03117> come

<0935>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, that it shall no <03808>

more <05750> be said <0559>, The LORD <03068> liveth <02416>,

that brought <05927> up the children <01121> of Israel <03478>

out of the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>;

15  But, The LORD <03068> liveth <02416>, that brought <05927>

up the children <01121> of Israel <03478> from the land <0776>

of the north <06828>, and from all <03605> the lands <0776>

whither he had driven <05080> them: and I will bring <07725>

them again <07725> into <05921> their land <0127> that I gave

<05414> unto their fathers <01>.

 16  Behold <02005>, I will send <07971> for many <07227>

fishers <01728>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, and they shall

fish <01770> them; and after <0310> will I send <07971> for many

<07227> hunters <06719>, and they shall hunt <06679> them from

every <03605> mountain <02022>, and from every <03605> hill

<01389>, and out of the holes <05357> of the rocks <05553>.

17  For mine eyes <05869> [are] upon all <03605> their ways

<01870>: they are not hid <05641> from my face <06440>, neither

<03808> is their iniquity <05771> hid <06845> from mine eyes

<05869>.

18  And first <07223> I will recompense <07999> their iniquity

<05771> and their sin <02403> double <04932>; because <05921>

they have defiled <02490> my land <0776>, they have filled

<04390> mine inheritance <05159> with the carcases <05038> of

their detestable <08251> and abominable <08441> things.

19  O LORD <03068>, my strength <05797>, and my fortress

<04581>, and my refuge <04498> in the day <03117> of affliction

<06869>, the Gentiles <01471> shall come <0935> unto thee from

the ends <0657> of the earth <0776>, and shall say <0559>,

Surely <0389> our fathers <01> have inherited <05157> lies

<08267>, vanity <01892>, and [things] wherein [there is] no

<0369> profit <03276>.

 20  Shall a man <0120> make <06213> gods <0430> unto himself,

and they [are] no <03808> gods <0430>?

 21  Therefore <03651>, behold <02005>, I will this <02063> once

<06471> cause them to know <03045>, I will cause them to know

<03045> mine hand <03027> and my might <01369>; and they shall

know <03045> that my name <08034> [is] The LORD <03068>.

Jeremiah  17

 1. The sin <02403> of Judah <03063> [is] written <03789> with a

pen <05842> of iron <01270>, [and] with the point <06856> of a

diamond <08068>: [it is] graven <02790> upon the table <03871>

of their heart <03820>, and upon the horns <07161> of your

altars <04196>;

2  Whilst their children <01121> remember <02142> their altars

<04196> and their groves <0842> by the green <07488> trees

<06086> upon the high <01364> hills <01389>.

 3  O my mountain <02042> in the field <07704>, I will give

<05414> thy substance <02428> [and] all <03605> thy treasures

<0214> to the spoil <0957>, [and] thy high <01116> places for

sin <02403>, throughout all <03605> thy borders <01366>.

4  And thou, even thyself, shalt discontinue <08058> from thine

heritage <05159> that I gave <05414> thee; and I will cause thee

to serve <05647> thine enemies <0341> in the land <0776> which

<0834> thou knowest <03045> not: for ye have kindled <06919> a

fire <0784> in mine anger <0639>, [which] shall burn <03344> for

ever <05769>.

 5. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Cursed <0779>

[be] the man <01397> that trusteth <0982> in man <0120>, and

maketh flesh <01320> his arm <02220>, and whose heart <03820>

departeth <05493> from the LORD <03068>.

6  For he shall be like the heath <06176> in the desert <06160>,

and shall not see <07200> when <03588> good <02896> cometh

<0935>; but shall inhabit <07931> the parched <02788> places in

the wilderness <04057>, [in] a salt <04420> land <0776> and not

inhabited <03427>.

7  Blessed <01288> [is] the man <01397> that trusteth <0982> in

the LORD <03068>, and whose hope <04009> the LORD <03068> is.

8  For he shall be as a tree <06086> planted <08362> by the

waters <04325>, and [that] spreadeth <07971> out her roots

<08328> by the river <03105>, and shall not see <07200> when

<03588> heat <02527> cometh <0935>, but her leaf <05929> shall

be green <07488>; and shall not be careful <01672> in the year

<08141> of drought <01226>, neither <03808> shall cease <04185>

from yielding <06213> fruit <06529>.

9  The heart <03820> [is] deceitful <06121> above all <03605>

[things], and desperately <0605> wicked <0605>: who <04310> can

know <03045> it?

 10  I the LORD <03068> search <02713> the heart <03820>, [I]

try <0974> the reins <03629>, even to give <05414> every man

<0376> according to his ways <01870>, [and] according to the

fruit <06529> of his doings <04611>.

11  [As] the partridge <07124> sitteth <01716> [on eggs], and

hatcheth <03205> [them] not; [so] he that getteth <06213> riches

<06239>, and not by right <04941>, shall leave <05800> them in

the midst <02677> of his days <03117>, and at his end <0319>

shall be a fool <05036>.

 12. A glorious <03519> high <04791> throne <03678> from the

beginning <07223> [is] the place <04725> of our sanctuary

<04720>.

 13  O LORD <03068>, the hope <04723> of Israel <03478>, all

<03605> that forsake <05800> thee shall be ashamed <0954>, [and]

they that depart <03249> from me shall be written <03789> in the

earth <0776>, because <03588> they have forsaken <05800> the

LORD <03068>, the fountain <04726> of living <02416> waters

<04325>.

 14  Heal <07495> me, O LORD <03068>, and I shall be healed

<07495>; save <03467> me, and I shall be saved <03467>: for thou

[art] my praise <08416>.

15  Behold <02009>, they say <0559> unto me, Where <0346> [is]

the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>? let it come <0935> now

<04994>.

16  As for me, I have not hastened <0213> from [being] a pastor

<07462> to follow <0310> thee: neither <03808> have I desired

<0183> the woeful <0605> day <03117>; thou knowest <03045>: that

which came <04161> out of my lips <08193> was [right <05227>]

before <05227> thee.

17  Be not a terror <04288> unto me: thou [art] my hope <04268>

in the day <03117> of evil <07451>.

18  Let them be confounded <0954> that persecute <07291> me,

but let not me be confounded <0954>: let them be dismayed

<02865>, but let not me be dismayed <02865>: bring <0935> upon

them the day <03117> of evil <07451>, and destroy <07665> them

with double <04932> destruction <07670>.

 19. Thus <03541> said <0559> the LORD <03068> unto me; Go

<01980> and stand <05975> in the gate <08179> of the children

<01121> of the people <05971>, whereby <0834> the kings <04428>

of Judah <03063> come <0935> in, and by the which <0834> they go

<03318> out, and in all <03605> the gates <08179> of Jerusalem

<03389>;

20  And say <0559> unto them, Hear <08085> ye the word <01697>

of the LORD <03068>, ye kings <04428> of Judah <03063>, and all

<03605> Judah <03063>, and all <03605> the inhabitants <03427>

of Jerusalem <03389>, that enter <0935> in by these <0428> gates

<08179>:

21  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Take heed

<08104> to yourselves <05315>, and bear <05375> no <0408> burden

<04853> on the sabbath <07676> day <03117>, nor bring <0935>

[it] in by the gates <08179> of Jerusalem <03389>;

 22  Neither <03808> carry <03318> forth <03318> a burden

<04853> out of your houses <01004> on the sabbath <07676> day

<03117>, neither <03808> do <06213> ye any <03605> work <04399>,

but hallow <06942> ye the sabbath <07676> day <03117>, as I

commanded <06680> your fathers <01>.

23  But they obeyed <08085> not, neither <03808> inclined

<05186> their ear <0241>, but made their neck <06202> stiff

<07185>, that they might not hear <08085>, nor <01115> receive

<03947> instruction <04148>.

24  And it shall come <01961> to pass, if <0518> ye diligently

hearken <08085> unto me, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, to

bring <0935> in no <01115> burden <04853> through the gates

<08179> of this <02063> city <05892> on the sabbath <07676> day

<03117>, but hallow <06942> the sabbath <07676> day <03117>, to

do <06213> no <01115> work <04399> therein;

25  Then shall there enter <0935> into the gates <08179> of

this <02063> city <05892> kings <04428> and princes <08269>

sitting <03427> upon the throne <03678> of David <01732>, riding

<07392> in chariots <07393> and on horses <05483>, they, and

their princes <08269>, the men <0376> of Judah <03063>, and the

inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389>: and this <02088> city

<05892> shall remain <03427> for ever <05769>.

26  And they shall come <0935> from the cities <05892> of Judah

<03063>, and from the places <05439> about <05439> Jerusalem

<03389>, and from the land <0776> of Benjamin <01144>, and from

the plain <08219>, and from the mountains <02022>, and from the

south <05045>, bringing <0935> burnt <05930> offerings, and

sacrifices <02077>, and meat offerings <04503>, and incense

<03828>, and bringing <0935> sacrifices of praise <08426>, unto

the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>.

27  But if <0518> ye will not hearken <08085> unto me to hallow

<06942> the sabbath <07676> day <03117>, and not to bear <05375>

a burden <04853>, even entering <0935> in at the gates <08179>

of Jerusalem <03389> on the sabbath <07676> day <03117>; then

will I kindle <03341> a fire <0784> in the gates <08179> thereof,

and it shall devour <0398> the palaces <0759> of Jerusalem

<03389>, and it shall not be quenched <03518>.

Jeremiah  18

 1. The word <01697> which <0834> came <01961> to Jeremiah

<03414> from the LORD <03068>, saying <0559>,

 2  Arise <06965>, and go <03381> down <03381> to the potter's

<03335> house <01004>, and there <08033> I will cause thee to

hear <08085> my words <01697>.

 3  Then I went <03381> down <03381> to the potter's <03335>

house <01004>, and, behold <02009>, he wrought <06213> a work

<04399> on <05921> the wheels <070>.

4  And the vessel <03627> that he made <06213> of clay <02563>

was marred <07843> in the hand <03027> of the potter <03335>: so

he made <06213> it again <07725> another <0312> vessel <03627>,

as seemed <05869> good <03474> to the potter <03335> to make

<06213> [it].

5  Then the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> to me,

 saying <0559>,

 6  O house <01004> of Israel <03478>, cannot I do <06213> with

you as this <02088> potter <03335>? saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>. Behold <02009>, as the clay <02563> [is] in the

potter's <03335> hand <03027>, so <03651> [are] ye in mine hand

<03027>, O house <01004> of Israel <03478>.

7  [At what] instant <07281> I shall speak <01696> concerning

<05921> a nation <01471>, and concerning <05921> a kingdom

<04467>, to pluck <05428> up, and to pull <05422> down, and to

destroy <06> [it];

 8  If that nation <01471>, against <05921> whom <0834> I have

pronounced <01696>, turn <07725> from their evil <07451>, I will

repent <05162> of the evil <07451> that I thought <02803> to do

<06213> unto them.

9  And [at what] instant <07281> I shall speak <01696>

concerning <05921> a nation <01471>, and concerning <05921> a

kingdom <04467>, to build <01129> and to plant <05193> [it];

10  If it do <06213> evil <07451> in my sight <05869>, that it

obey <08085> not my voice <06963>, then I will repent <05162> of

the good <02896>, wherewith <0834> I said <0559> I would benefit

<03190> them.

 11. Now <06258> therefore go <04994> to, speak <0559> to the

men <0376> of Judah <03063>, and to the inhabitants <03427> of

Jerusalem <03389>, saying <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the

LORD <03068>; Behold <02009>, I frame <03335> evil <07451>

against <05921> you, and devise <02803> a device <04284> against

<05921> you: return <07725> ye now <04994> every <0376> one

<0376> from his evil <07451> way <01870>, and make your ways

<01870> and your doings <04611> good <03190>.

12  And they said <0559>, There is no hope <02976>: but we will

walk <01980> after <0310> our own devices <04284>, and we will

every <0376> one <0376> do <06213> the imagination <08307> of

his evil <07451> heart <03820>.

 13  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>; Ask <07592> ye now <04994> among the heathen <01471>,

who <04310> hath heard <08085> such <0428> things: the virgin

<01330> of Israel <03478> hath done <06213> a very <03966>

horrible <08186> thing.

14  Will [a man] leave <05800> the snow <07950> of Lebanon

<03844> [which cometh] from the rock <06697> of the field

<07704>? [or] shall the cold <07119> flowing <05140> waters

<04325> that come from another <02114> place be forsaken <05428>?

15  Because <03588> my people <05971> hath forgotten <07911> me,

they have burned <06999> incense <06999> to vanity <07723>, and

they have caused them to stumble <03782> in their ways <01870>

[from] the ancient <05769> paths <07635>, to walk <01980> in

paths <05410>, [in] a way <01870> not cast <05549> up;

 16  To make <07760> their land <0776> desolate <08047>, [and] a

perpetual <05769> hissing <08292>; every <03605> one that

passeth <05674> thereby <05921> shall be astonished <08074>, and

wag <05110> his head <07218>.

17  I will scatter <06327> them as with an east <06921> wind

<07307> before <06440> the enemy <0341>; I will shew <07200>

them the back <06203>, and not the face <06440>, in the day

<03117> of their calamity <0343>.

 18. Then said <0559> they, Come <03212>, and let us devise

<02803> devices <04284> against <05921> Jeremiah <03414>; for

the law <08451> shall not perish <06> from the priest <03548>,

nor counsel <06098> from the wise <02450>, nor the word <01697>

from the prophet <05030>. Come <03212>, and let us smite <05221>

him with the tongue <03956>, and let us not give heed <07181> to

any <03605> of his words <01697>.

19  Give heed <07181> to me, O LORD <03068>, and hearken

<08085> to the voice <06963> of them that contend <03401> with

me.

20  Shall evil <07451> be recompensed <07999> for good <02896>?

for they have digged <03738> a pit <07745> for my soul <05315>.

Remember <02142> that I stood <05975> before <06440> thee to

speak <01696> good <02896> for them, [and] to turn <07725> away

thy wrath <02534> from them.

 21  Therefore <03651> deliver <05414> up their children <01121>

to the famine <07458>, and pour <05064> out their [blood] by the

force <03027> of the sword <02719>; and let their wives <0802>

be bereaved <07909> of their children, and [be] widows <0490>;

and let their men <0582> be put <02026> to death <04194>; [let]

their young <0970> men [be] slain <05221> by the sword <02719>

in battle <04421>.

22  Let a cry <02201> be heard <08085> from their houses

<01004>, when <03588> thou shalt bring <0935> a troop <01416>

suddenly <06597> upon them: for they have digged <03738> a pit

to take <03920> me, and hid <02934> snares <06341> for my feet

<07272>.

23  Yet, LORD <03068>, thou knowest <03045> all <03605> their

counsel <06098> against <05921> me to slay <01194> [me]: forgive

<03722> not their iniquity <05771>, neither <0408> blot <04229>

out their sin <02403> from thy sight <06440>, but let them be

overthrown <03782> before <06440> thee; deal <06213> [thus] with

them in the time <06256> of thine anger <0639>.

Jeremiah  19

 1. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Go <01980> and

get <07069> a potter's <03335> earthen <02789> bottle <01228>,

and [take] of the ancients <02204> of the people <05971>, and of

the ancients <02204> of the priests <03548>;

2  And go <03318> forth <03318> unto the valley <01516> of the

son <01121> of Hinnom <02011>, which <0834> [is] by the entry

<06607> of the east <02777> gate <08179>, and proclaim <07121>

there <08033> the words <01697> that I shall tell <01696> thee,

3  And say <0559>, Hear <08085> ye the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068>, O kings <04428> of Judah <03063>, and inhabitants

<03427> of Jerusalem <03389>; Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>;

Behold <02005>, I will bring <0935> evil <07451> upon this

<02088> place <04725>, the which <0834> whosoever <03605>

heareth <08085>, his ears <0241> shall tingle <06750>.

4  Because they have forsaken <05800> me, and have estranged

<05234> this <02088> place <04725>, and have burned <06999>

incense <06999> in it unto other <0312> gods <0430>, whom <0834>

neither <03808> they nor their fathers <01> have known <03045>,

nor the kings <04428> of Judah <03063>, and have filled <04390>

this <02088> place <04725> with the blood <01818> of innocents

<05355>;

5  They have built <01129> also the high <01116> places of Baal

<01168>, to burn <08313> their sons <01121> with fire <0784>

[for] burnt <05930> offerings unto Baal <01168>, which <0834> I

commanded <06680> not, nor <03808> spake <01696> [it], neither

<03808> came <05927> [it] into <05921> my mind <03820>:

 6  Therefore <03651>, behold <02009>, the days <03117> come

<0935>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, that this <02088> place

<04725> shall no <03808> more <05750> be called <07121> Tophet

<08612>, nor The valley <01516> of the son <01121> of Hinnom

<02011>, but The valley <01516> of slaughter <02028>.

7  And I will make void <01238> the counsel <06098> of Judah

<03063> and Jerusalem <03389> in this <02088> place <04725>; and

I will cause them to fall <05307> by the sword <02719> before

<06440> their enemies <0341>, and by the hands <03027> of them

that seek <01245> their lives <05315>: and their carcases

<05038> will I give <05414> to be meat <03978> for the fowls

<05775> of the heaven <08064>, and for the beasts <0929> of the

earth <0776>.

 8  And I will make <07760> this <02063> city <05892> desolate

<08047>, and an hissing <08322>; every <03605> one that passeth

<05674> thereby <05921> shall be astonished <08074> and hiss

<08319> because <05921> of all <03605> the plagues <04347>

thereof.

9  And I will cause them to eat <0398> the flesh <01320> of

their sons <01121> and the flesh <01320> of their daughters

<01121>, and they shall eat <0398> every <0376> one <0376> the

flesh <01320> of his friend <07453> in the siege <04692> and

straitness <04689>, wherewith <0834> their enemies <0341>, and

they that seek <01245> their lives <05315>, shall straiten

<06693> them.

 10. Then shalt thou break <07665> the bottle <01228> in the

sight <05869> of the men <0582> that go <01980> with thee,

11  And shalt say <0559> unto them, Thus <03541> saith <0559>

the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>; Even <03602> so <03602> will

I break <07665> this <02088> people <05971> and this <02063>

city <05892>, as [one] breaketh <07665> a potter's <03335>

vessel <03627>, that cannot be made <07495> whole <07495> again

<05750>: and they shall bury <06912> [them] in Tophet <08612>,

till [there be] no <0369> place <04725> to bury <06912>.

 12  Thus <03651> will I do <06213> unto this <02088> place

<04725>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, and to the inhabitants

<03427> thereof, and [even] make <05414> this <02063> city

<05892> as Tophet <08612>:

13  And the houses <01004> of Jerusalem <03389>, and the houses

<01004> of the kings <04428> of Judah <03063>, shall be defiled

<02931> as the place <04725> of Tophet <08612>, because <03605>

of all <03605> the houses <01004> upon whose <0834> roofs

<01406> they have burned <06999> incense <06999> unto all

<03605> the host <06635> of heaven <08064>, and have poured

<05258> out drink <05262> offerings unto other <0312> gods

<0430>.

 14  Then came <0935> Jeremiah <03414> from Tophet <08612>,

whither <0834> the LORD <03068> had sent <07971> him to prophesy

<05012>; and he stood <05975> in the court <02691> of the LORD'S

<03068> house <01004>; and said <0559> to all <03605> the people

<05971>,

 15  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; Behold <02005>, I will bring

<0935> upon this city <05892> and upon all <03605> her towns

<05892> all <03605> the evil <07451> that I have pronounced

<01696> against <05921> it, because <03588> they have hardened

<07185> their necks <06203>, that they might not hear <08085> my

words <01697>.

Jeremiah  20

 1. Now Pashur <06583> the son <01121> of Immer <0564> the

priest <03548>, who <01931> [was] also chief <05051> governor

<05057> in the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, heard <08085>

that Jeremiah <03414> prophesied <05012> these <0428> things

<01697>.

 2  Then Pashur <06583> smote <05221> Jeremiah <03414> the

prophet <05030>, and put <05414> him in the stocks <04115> that

[were] in the high <05945> gate <08179> of Benjamin <01144>,

which <0834> [was] by the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>.

3  And it came <01961> to pass on the morrow <04283>, that

Pashur <06583> brought <03318> forth <03318> Jeremiah <03414>

out of the stocks <04115>. Then said <0559> Jeremiah <03414>

unto him, The LORD <03068> hath not called <07121> thy name

<08034> Pashur <06583>, but Magormissabib <04036>.

4  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Behold

<02005>, I will make <05414> thee a terror <04320> to thyself,

and to all <03605> thy friends <0157>: and they shall fall

<05307> by the sword <02719> of their enemies <0341>, and thine

eyes <05869> shall behold <07200> [it]: and I will give <05414>

all <03605> Judah <03063> into the hand <03027> of the king

<04428> of Babylon <0894>, and he shall carry <01540> them

captive <01540> into Babylon <0894>, and shall slay <05221> them

with the sword <02719>.

5  Moreover I will deliver <05414> all <03605> the strength

<02633> of this <02063> city <05892>, and all <03605> the

labours <03018> thereof, and all <03605> the precious <03366>

things thereof, and all <03605> the treasures <0214> of the

kings <04428> of Judah <03063> will I give <05414> into the hand

<03027> of their enemies <0341>, which shall spoil <0962> them,

and take <03947> them, and carry <0935> them to Babylon <0894>.

6  And thou, Pashur <06583>, and all <03605> that dwell <03427>

in thine house <01004> shall go <03212> into captivity <07628>:

and thou shalt come <0935> to Babylon <0894>, and there <08033>

thou shalt die <04191>, and shalt be buried <06912> there

<08033>, thou, and all <03605> thy friends <0157>, to whom thou

hast prophesied <05012> lies <08267>.

 7. O LORD <03068>, thou hast deceived <06601> me, and I was

deceived <06601>: thou art stronger <02388> than I, and hast

prevailed <03201>: I am in derision <07814> daily, every <03605>

one mocketh <03932> me.

 8  For since <01767> I spake <01696>, I cried <02199> out, I

cried <07121> violence <02555> and spoil <07701>; because

<03588> the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> was made <01961> a

reproach <02781> unto me, and a derision <07047>, daily.

9  Then I said <0559>, I will not make mention <02142> of him,

nor <03808> speak <01696> any more <05750> in his name <08034>.

But [his word] was in mine heart <03820> as a burning <01197>

fire <0784> shut <06113> up in my bones <06106>, and I was weary

<03811> with forbearing <03557>, and I could <03201> not [stay].

 10  For I heard <08085> the defaming <01681> of many <07227>,

fear <04032> on every <05437> side <05439>. Report <05046>, [say

they], and we will report <05046> it. All <03605> my familiars

<07965> watched <08104> for my halting <06761>, [saying],

Peradventure <0194> he will be enticed <06601>, and we shall

prevail <03201> against him, and we shall take <03947> our

revenge <05360> on him.

11  But the LORD <03068> [is] with me as a mighty <01368>

terrible <06184> one: therefore my persecutors <07291> shall

stumble <03782>, and they shall not prevail <03201>: they shall

be greatly <03966> ashamed <0954>; for they shall not prosper

<07919>: [their] everlasting <05769> confusion <03639> shall

never be forgotten <07911>.

 12  But, O LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>, that triest <0974>

the righteous <06662>, [and] seest <07200> the reins <03629> and

the heart <03820>, let me see <07200> thy vengeance <05360> on

them: for unto thee have I opened <01540> my cause <07379>.

13  Sing <07891> unto the LORD <03068>, praise <01984> ye the

LORD <03068>: for he hath delivered <05337> the soul <05315> of

the poor <034> from the hand <03027> of evildoers <07489>.

 14. Cursed <0779> [be] the day <03117> wherein <0834> I was

born <03205>: let not the day <03117> wherein <0834> my mother

<0517> bare <03205> me be blessed <01288>.

15  Cursed <0779> [be] the man <0376> who <0834> brought

<01319> tidings <01319> to my father <01>, saying <0559>, A man

<02145> child <01121> is born <03205> unto thee; making him very

glad <08056>.

16  And let that man <0376> be as the cities <05892> which

<0834> the LORD <03068> overthrew <02015>, and repented <05162>

not: and let him hear <08085> the cry <02201> in the morning

<01242>, and the shouting <08643> at noontide;

 17  Because <0834> he slew <04191> me not from the womb <07358>;

or that my mother <0517> might have been <01961> my grave

<06913>, and her womb <07358> [to be] always <05769> great

<02030> [with me].

 18  Wherefore <04100> came <03318> I forth <03318> out of the

womb <07358> to see <07200> labour <05999> and sorrow <03015>,

that my days <03117> should be consumed <03615> with shame

<01322>?

Jeremiah  21

 1. The word <01697> which <0834> came <01961> unto Jeremiah

<03414> from the LORD <03068>, when king <04428> Zedekiah

<06667> sent <07971> unto him Pashur <06583> the son <01121> of

Melchiah <04441>, and Zephaniah <06846> the son <01121> of

Maaseiah <04641> the priest <03548>, saying <0559>,

 2  Enquire <01875>, I pray <04994> thee, of the LORD <03068>

for us; for Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king <04428> of Babylon

<0894> maketh war <03898> against <05921> us; if <0194> so be

that the LORD <03068> will deal <06213> with us according to all

<03605> his wondrous <06381> works, that he may go <05927> up

from us.

3  Then said <0559> Jeremiah <03414> unto them, Thus <03541>

shall ye say <0559> to Zedekiah <06667>:

 4  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of

Israel <03478>; Behold <02005>, I will turn <05437> back <05437>

the weapons <03627> of war <04421> that [are] in your hands

<03027>, wherewith <0834> ye fight <03898> against the king

<04428> of Babylon <0894>, and [against] the Chaldeans <03778>,

which besiege <06696> you without <02351> the walls <02346>, and

I will assemble <0622> them into <0413> the midst <08432> of

this <02063> city <05892>.

5  And I myself <0589> will fight <03898> against you with an

outstretched <05186> hand <03027> and with a strong <02389> arm

<02220>, even in anger <0639>, and in fury <02534>, and in great

<01419> wrath <07110>.

6  And I will smite <05221> the inhabitants <03427> of this

<02063> city <05892>, both man <0120> and beast <0929>: they

shall die <04191> of a great <01419> pestilence <01698>.

7  And afterward, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, I will

deliver <05414> Zedekiah <06667> king <04428> of Judah <03063>,

and his servants <05650>, and the people <05971>, and such as

are left <07604> in this <02063> city <05892> from the

pestilence <01698>, from the sword <02719>, and from the famine

<07458>, into the hand <03027> of Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king

<04428> of Babylon <0894>, and into the hand <03027> of their

enemies <0341>, and into the hand <03027> of those that seek

<01245> their life <05315>: and he shall smite <05221> them with

the edge <06310> of the sword <02719>; he shall not spare

<02347> them, neither <03808> have pity <02550>, nor <03808>

have mercy <07355>.

 8. And unto this <02088> people <05971> thou shalt say <0559>,

Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Behold <02005>, I

set <05414> before <06440> you the way <01870> of life <02416>,

and the way <01870> of death <04194>.

9  He that abideth <03427> in this <02063> city <05892> shall

die <04191> by the sword <02719>, and by the famine <07458>, and

by the pestilence <01698>: but he that goeth <03318> out, and

falleth <05307> to the Chaldeans <03778> that besiege <06696>

you, he shall live <02421>, and his life <05315> shall be unto

him for a prey <07998>.

 10  For I have set <07760> my face <06440> against this <02063>

city <05892> for evil <07451>, and not for good <02896>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>: it shall be given <05414> into the

hand <03027> of the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>, and he shall

burn <08313> it with fire <0784>.

11  And touching the house <01004> of the king <04428> of Judah

<03063>, [say], Hear <08085> ye the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068>;

 12  O house <01004> of David <01732>, thus <03541> saith <0559>

the LORD <03068>; Execute <01777> judgment <04941> in the

morning <01242>, and deliver <05337> [him that is] spoiled

<01497> out of the hand <03027> of the oppressor <06231>, lest

<06435> my fury <02534> go <03318> out like fire <0784>, and

burn <01197> that none <0369> can quench <03518> [it], because

<06440> of the evil <07455> of your doings <04611>.

 13  Behold <02005>, I [am] against <0413> thee, O inhabitant

<03427> of the valley <06010>, [and] rock <06697> of the plain

<04334>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>; which say <0559>, Who

<04310> shall come <05181> down <05181> against <05921> us? or

who <04310> shall enter <0935> into our habitations <04585>?

14  But I will punish <06485> you according to the fruit

<06529> of your doings <04611>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>:

and I will kindle <03341> a fire <0784> in the forest <03293>

thereof, and it shall devour <0398> all <03605> things round

<05439> about it.

Jeremiah  22

 1. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Go <03381> down

<03381> to the house <01004> of the king <04428> of Judah

<03063>, and speak <01696> there <08033> this <02088> word

<01697>,

2  And say <0559>, Hear <08085> the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068>, O king <04428> of Judah <03063>, that sittest <03427>

upon the throne <03678> of David <01732>, thou, and thy servants

<05650>, and thy people <05971> that enter <0935> in by these

<0428> gates <08179>:

 3  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Execute <06213>

ye judgment <04941> and righteousness <06666>, and deliver

<05337> the spoiled <01497> out of the hand <03027> of the

oppressor <06216>: and do no <0408> wrong <03238>, do no <0408>

violence <02554> to the stranger <01616>, the fatherless <03490>,

nor the widow <0490>, neither <0408> shed <08210> innocent

<05355> blood <01818> in this <02088> place <04725>.

 4  For if <0518> ye do <06213> this <02088> thing <01697>

indeed, then shall there enter <0935> in by the gates <08179> of

this <02088> house <01004> kings <04428> sitting <03427> upon

the throne <03678> of David <01732>, riding <07392> in chariots

<07393> and on horses <05483>, he, and his servants <05650>, and

his people <05971>.

5  But if <0518> ye will not hear <08085> these <0428> words

<01697>, I swear <07650> by myself, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>, that this <02088> house <01004> shall become <01961> a

desolation <02723>.

6  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> unto the

king's <04428> house <01004> of Judah <03063>; Thou [art] Gilead

<01568> unto me, [and] the head <07218> of Lebanon <03844>:

[yet] surely I will make <07896> thee a wilderness <04057>,

[and] cities <05892> [which] are not inhabited <03427>.

 7  And I will prepare <06942> destroyers <07843> against

<05921> thee, every <0376> one <0376> with his weapons <03627>:

and they shall cut <03772> down thy choice <04005> cedars <0730>,

and cast [them] into <05921> the fire <0784>.

8  And many <07227> nations <01471> shall pass <05674> by this

<02063> city <05892>, and they shall say <0559> every man <0376>

to his neighbour <07453>, Wherefore hath the LORD <03068> done

<06213> thus <03602> unto this <02063> great <01419> city

<05892>?

9  Then they shall answer <0559>, Because they have forsaken

<05800> the covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068> their God

<0430>, and worshipped <07812> other <0312> gods <0430>, and

served <05647> them.

 10. Weep <01058> ye not for the dead <04191>, neither <0408>

bemoan <05110> him: [but] weep <01058> sore for him that goeth

<01980> away: for he shall return <07725> no <03808> more

<05750>, nor see <07200> his native <04138> country <0776>.

11  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> touching

<0413> Shallum <07967> the son <01121> of Josiah <02977> king

<04428> of Judah <03063>, which reigned <04427> instead <08478>

of Josiah <02977> his father <01>, which <0834> went <03318>

forth <03318> out of this <02088> place <04725>; He shall not

return <07725> thither <08033> any more <05750>:

12  But he shall die <04191> in the place <04725> whither they

have led him captive <01540>, and shall see <07200> this <02063>

land <0776> no <03808> more <05750>.

13  Woe <01945> unto him that buildeth <01129> his house

<01004> by unrighteousness, and his chambers <05944> by wrong;

[that] useth his neighbour's <07453> service <05647> without

<02600> wages <02600>, and giveth <05414> him not for his work

<06467>;

 14  That saith <0559>, I will build <01129> me a wide <04060>

house <01004> and large <07304> chambers <05944>, and cutteth

<07167> him out windows <02474>; and [it is] cieled <05603> with

cedar <0730>, and painted <04886> with vermilion <08350>.

15  Shalt thou reign <04427>, because <03588> thou closest

<08474> [thyself] in cedar <0730>? did not thy father <01> eat

<0398> and drink <08354>, and do <06213> judgment <04941> and

justice <06666>, [and] then <0227> [it was] well <02896> with

him?

16  He judged <01777> the cause <01779> of the poor <06041> and

needy <034>; then <0227> [it was] well <02896> [with him: was]

not this <01931> to know <01847> me? saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>.

17  But thine eyes <05869> and thine heart <03820> [are] not

but for thy covetousness <01215>, and for to shed <08210>

innocent <05355> blood <01818>, and for oppression <06233>, and

for violence <04835>, to do <06213> [it].

 18  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> concerning <0413> Jehoiakim <03079> the son <01121> of

Josiah <02977> king <04428> of Judah <03063>; They shall not

lament <05594> for him, [saying], Ah <01945> my brother <0251>!

or, Ah <01945> sister <0269>! they shall not lament <05594> for

him, [saying], Ah <01945> lord <0113>! or, Ah <01945> his glory

<01935>!

19  He shall be buried <06912> with the burial <06900> of an

ass <02543>, drawn <05498> and cast <07993> forth beyond <01973>

the gates <08179> of Jerusalem <03389>.

 20. Go <05927> up to Lebanon <03844>, and cry <06817>; and lift

<05414> up thy voice <06963> in Bashan <01316>, and cry <06817>

from the passages <05676>: for all <03605> thy lovers <0157> are

destroyed <07665>.

21  I spake <01696> unto thee in thy prosperity <07962>; [but]

thou saidst <0559>, I will not hear <08085>. This <02088> [hath

been] thy manner <01870> from thy youth <05271>, that thou

obeyedst <08085> not my voice <06963>.

22  The wind <07307> shall eat <07462> up all <03605> thy

pastors <07462>, and thy lovers <0157> shall go <03212> into

captivity <07628>: surely <03588> then <0227> shalt thou be

ashamed <0954> and confounded <03637> for all <03605> thy

wickedness <07451>.

23  O inhabitant <03427> of Lebanon <03844>, that makest thy

nest <07077> in the cedars <0730>, how <04100> gracious <02603>

shalt thou be when pangs <02256> come <0935> upon thee, the pain

<02427> as of a woman in travail <03205>!

 24  [As] I live <02416>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, though

<0518> Coniah <03659> the son <01121> of Jehoiakim <03079> king

<04428> of Judah <03063> were the signet <02368> upon my right

<03225> hand <03027>, yet <03588> would I pluck <05423> thee

thence <08033>;

25  And I will give <05414> thee into the hand <03027> of them

that seek <01245> thy life <05315>, and into the hand <03027>

[of them] whose face <06440> thou fearest <01481>, even into the

hand <03027> of Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king <04428> of Babylon

<0894>, and into the hand <03027> of the Chaldeans <03778>.

26  And I will cast <02904> thee out, and thy mother <0517>

that bare <03205> thee, into <05921> another <0312> country

<0776>, where ye were not born <03205>; and there <08033> shall

ye die <04191>.

27  But to the land <0776> whereunto <0834> they desire to

return <07725>, thither <08033> shall they not return <07725>.

 28  [Is] this <02088> man <0376> Coniah <03659> a despised

<0959> broken <05310> idol <06089>? [is he] a vessel <03627>

wherein [is] no <0363> pleasure <02656>? wherefore <04069> are

they cast <07993> out, he and his seed <02233>, and are cast

<02904> into <05921> a land <0776> which <0834> they know

<03045> not?

 29  O earth <0776>, earth <0776>, earth <0776>, hear <08085>

the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>.

 30  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Write <03789>

ye this <02088> man <0376> childless <06185>, a man <01397>

[that] shall not prosper <06743> in his days <03117>: for no

<03808> man <0376> of his seed <02233> shall prosper <06743>,

sitting <03427> upon the throne <03678> of David <01732>, and

ruling <04910> any more <05750> in Judah <03063>.

Jeremiah  23

 1. Woe <01945> be unto the pastors <07462> that destroy <06>

and scatter <06327> the sheep <06629> of my pasture <04830>!

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

 2  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>

God <0430> of Israel <03478> against <05921> the pastors <07462>

that feed <07462> my people <05971>; Ye have scattered <06327>

my flock <06629>, and driven <05080> them away, and have not

visited <06485> them: behold <02005>, I will visit <06485> upon

you the evil <07455> of your doings <04611>, saith <05002> the

LORD <03068>.

3  And I will gather <06908> the remnant <07611> of my flock

<06629> out of all <03605> countries <0776> whither I have

driven <05080> them, and will bring <07725> them again <07725>

to their folds <05116>; and they shall be fruitful <06509> and

increase <07235>.

 4  And I will set <06965> up shepherds <07462> over <05921>

them which shall feed <07462> them: and they shall fear <03372>

no <03808> more <05750>, nor <03808> be dismayed <02865>,

neither <03808> shall they be lacking <06485>, saith <05002> the

LORD <03068>.

 5  Behold <02009>, the days <03117> come <0935>, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>, that I will raise <06965> unto David <01732> a

righteous <06662> Branch <06780>, and a King <04428> shall reign

<04427> and prosper <07919>, and shall execute <06213> judgment

<04941> and justice <06666> in the earth <0776>.

6  In his days <03117> Judah <03063> shall be saved <03467>,

and Israel <03478> shall dwell <07931> safely <0983>: and this

<02088> [is] his name <08034> whereby <0834> he shall be called

<07121>, THE LORD <03068> OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS <06664>.

 7  Therefore <03651>, behold <02009>, the days <03117> come

<0935>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, that they shall no

<03808> more <05750> say <0559>, The LORD <03068> liveth <02416>,

which <0834> brought <05927> up the children <01121> of Israel

<03478> out of the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>;

8  But, The LORD <03068> liveth <02416>, which <0834> brought

<05927> up and which <0834> led <0935> the seed <02233> of the

house <01004> of Israel <03478> out of the north <06828> country

<0776>, and from all <03605> countries <0776> whither I had

driven <05080> them; and they shall dwell <03427> in their own

land <0127>.

 9. Mine heart <03820> within <07130> me is broken <07665>

because of the prophets <05030>; all <03605> my bones <06106>

shake <07363>; I am like a drunken <07910> man <0376>, and like

a man <01397> whom wine <03196> hath overcome <05674>, because

<06440> of the LORD <03068>, and because <03588> of the words

<01697> of his holiness <06944>.

 10  For the land <0776> is full <04390> of adulterers <05003>;

for because <06440> of swearing <0423> the land <0776> mourneth

<056>; the pleasant <04999> places of the wilderness <04057> are

dried <03001> up, and their course <04794> is evil <07451>, and

their force <01369> [is] not right.

11  For both <01571> prophet <05030> and priest <03548> are

profane <02610>; yea <01571>, in my house <01004> have I found

<04672> their wickedness <07451>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

12  Wherefore <03651> their way <01870> shall be unto them as

slippery <02519> [ways] in the darkness <0653>: they shall be

driven <01760> on, and fall <05307> therein: for I will bring

<0935> evil <07451> upon them, [even] the year <08141> of their

visitation <06486>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

13  And I have seen <07200> folly <08604> in the prophets

<05030> of Samaria <08111>; they prophesied <05012> in Baal

<01168>, and caused my people <05971> Israel <03478> to err

<08582>.

14  I have seen <07200> also in the prophets <05030> of

Jerusalem <03389> an horrible <08186> thing: they commit <05003>

adultery <05003>, and walk <01980> in lies <08267>: they

strengthen <02388> also the hands <03027> of evildoers <07489>,

that none <01115> doth return <07725> from his wickedness

<07451>: they are all <03605> of them unto me as Sodom <05467>,

and the inhabitants <03427> thereof as Gomorrah <06017>.

 15  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635> concerning <05921> the prophets <05030>;

Behold <02005>, I will feed <0398> them with wormwood <03939>,

and make them drink <08248> the water <04325> of gall <07219>:

for from the prophets <05030> of Jerusalem <03389> is

profaneness <02613> gone <03318> forth <03318> into all <03605>

the land <0776>.

 16  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

Hearken <08085> not unto the words <01697> of the prophets

<05030> that prophesy <05012> unto you: they make you vain

<01891>: they speak <01696> a vision <02377> of their own heart

<03820>, [and] not out of the mouth <06310> of the LORD <03068>.

17  They say <0559> still unto them that despise <05006> me,

The LORD <03068> hath said <01696>, Ye shall have <01961> peace

<07965>; and they say <0559> unto every <03605> one that walketh

<01980> after the imagination <08307> of his own heart <03820>,

No <03808> evil <07451> shall come <0935> upon you.

18  For who <04310> hath stood <05975> in the counsel <05475>

of the LORD <03068>, and hath perceived <07200> and heard

<08085> his word <01697>? who <04310> hath marked <07181> his

word <01697>, and heard <08085> [it]?

 19  Behold <02009>, a whirlwind <05591> of the LORD <03068> is

gone <03318> forth <03318> in fury <02534>, even a grievous

<02342> whirlwind <05591>: it shall fall <02342> grievously

<02342> upon the head <07218> of the wicked <07563>.

20  The anger <0639> of the LORD <03068> shall not return

<07725>, until <05704> he have executed <06213>, and till

<05704> he have performed <06965> the thoughts <04209> of his

heart <03820>: in the latter <0319> days <03117> ye shall

consider <0995> it perfectly <0998>.

21  I have not sent <07971> these prophets <05030>, yet they

ran <07323>: I have not spoken <01696> to them, yet they

prophesied <05012>.

22  But if they had stood <05975> in my counsel <05475>, and

had caused my people <05971> to hear <08085> my words <01697>,

then they should have turned <07725> them from their evil

<07451> way <01870>, and from the evil <07455> of their doings

<04611>.

 23  [Am] I a God <0430> at hand <07138>, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>, and not a God <0430> afar <07350> off?

24  Can any <0376> hide <05641> himself in secret <04565>

places that I shall not see <07200> him? saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>. Do not I fill <04390> heaven <08064> and earth <0776>?

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

 25  I have heard <08085> what the prophets <05030> said <0559>,

that prophesy <05012> lies <08267> in my name <08034>, saying

<0559>, I have dreamed <02492>, I have dreamed <02492>.

26  How <05704> long <05704> shall [this] be in the heart

<03820> of the prophets <05030> that prophesy <05012> lies

<08267>? yea, [they are] prophets <05030> of the deceit <08649>

of their own heart <03820>;

27  Which think <02803> to cause my people <05971> to forget

<07911> my name <08034> by their dreams <02472> which <0834>

they tell <05608> every man <0376> to his neighbour <07453>, as

their fathers <01> have forgotten <07911> my name <08034> for

Baal <01168>.

28  The prophet <05030> that hath a dream <02472>, let him tell

<05608> a dream <02472>; and he that hath my word <01697>, let

him speak <01696> my word <01697> faithfully <0571>. What

<04100> [is] the chaff <08401> to the wheat <01250>? saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>.

 29  [Is] not my word <01697> like <03541> as a fire <0784>?

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>; and like a hammer <06360> [that]

breaketh <06327> the rock <05553> in pieces?

 30  Therefore <03651>, behold <02005>, I [am] against <05921>

the prophets <05030>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, that steal

<01589> my words <01697> every <0376> one <0376> from his

neighbour <07453>.

 31  Behold <02005>, I [am] against <05921> the prophets <05030>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, that use <03747> their tongues

<03956>, and say, He saith <05002>.

32  Behold <02005>, I [am] against <05921> them that prophesy

<05012> false <08267> dreams <02472>, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>, and do <06213> tell <05608> them, and cause my people

<05971> to err <08582> by their lies <08267>, and by their

lightness <06350>; yet I sent <07971> them not, nor <03808>

commanded <06680> them: therefore they shall not profit <03276>

this <02088> people <05971> at all, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>.

 33. And when <03588> this <02088> people <05971>, or <0176> the

prophet <05030>, or <0176> a priest <03548>, shall ask <07592>

thee, saying <0559>, What <04100> [is] the burden <04853> of the

LORD <03068>? thou shalt then say <0559> unto them, What <04100>

burden <04853>? I will even forsake <05203> you, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>.

34  And [as for] the prophet <05030>, and the priest <03548>,

and the people <05971>, that shall say <0559>, The burden

<04853> of the LORD <03068>, I will even punish <06485> that man

<0376> and his house <01004>.

 35  Thus <03541> shall ye say <0559> every <0376> one <0376> to

his neighbour <07453>, and every <0376> one <0376> to his

brother <0251>, What <04100> hath the LORD <03068> answered

<06030>? and, What <04100> hath the LORD <03068> spoken <01696>?

36  And the burden <04853> of the LORD <03068> shall ye mention

<02142> no <03808> more <05750>: for every man's <0376> word

<01697> shall be his burden <04853>; for ye have perverted

<02015> the words <01697> of the living <02416> God <0430>, of

the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635> our God <0430>.

37  Thus <03541> shalt thou say <0559> to the prophet <05030>,

What <04100> hath the LORD <03068> answered <06030> thee? and,

What <04100> hath the LORD <03068> spoken <01696>?

38  But since <0518> ye say <0559>, The burden <04853> of the

LORD <03068>; therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the

LORD <03068>; Because <03282> ye say <0559> this <02088> word

<01697>, The burden <04853> of the LORD <03068>, and I have sent

<07971> unto you, saying <0559>, Ye shall not say <0559>, The

burden <04853> of the LORD <03068>;

 39  Therefore <03651>, behold <02005>, I, even I, will utterly

forget <05382> you, and I will forsake <05203> you, and the city

<05892> that I gave <05414> you and your fathers <01>, [and cast

you] out of my presence <06440>:

40  And I will bring <05414> an everlasting <05769> reproach

<02781> upon you, and a perpetual <05769> shame <03640>, which

<0834> shall not be forgotten <07911>.

Jeremiah  24

 1. The LORD <03068> shewed <07200> me, and, behold <02009>, two

<08147> baskets <01736> of figs <08384> [were] set <03259>

before <06440> the temple <01964> of the LORD <03068>, after

<0310> that Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king <04428> of Babylon

<0894> had carried <01540> away captive <01540> Jeconiah <03204>

the son <01121> of Jehoiakim <03079> king <04428> of Judah

<03063>, and the princes <08269> of Judah <03063>, with the

carpenters <02796> and smiths <04525>, from Jerusalem <03389>,

and had brought <0935> them to Babylon <0894>.

 2  One <0259> basket <01731> [had] very <03966> good <02896>

figs <08384>, [even] like the figs <08384> [that are] first

<01073> ripe: and the other <0259> basket <01731> [had] very

<03966> naughty <07451> figs <08384>, which <0834> could not be

eaten <0398>, they were so bad <07451>.

3  Then said <0559> the LORD <03068> unto me, What <04100>

seest <07200> thou, Jeremiah <03414>? And I said <0559>, Figs

<08384>; the good <02896> figs <08384>, very <03966> good

<02896>; and the evil <07451>, very <03966> evil <07451>, that

cannot <03808> be eaten <0398>, they are so evil <07455>.

4  Again the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> unto

me, saying <0559>,

 5  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, the God <0430>

of Israel <03478>; Like these <0428> good <02896> figs <08384>,

so <03651> will I acknowledge <05234> them that are carried

<01546> away captive <01546> of Judah <03063>, whom <0834> I

have sent <07971> out of this <02088> place <04725> into the

land <0776> of the Chaldeans <03778> for [their] good <02896>.

6  For I will set <07760> mine eyes <05869> upon them for good

<02896>, and I will bring <07725> them again <07725> to this

<02063> land <0776>: and I will build <01129> them, and not pull

<02040> [them] down; and I will plant <05193> them, and not

pluck <05428> [them] up.

7  And I will give <05414> them an heart <03820> to know

<03045> me, that I [am] the LORD <03068>: and they shall be my

people <05971>, and I will be their God <0430>: for they shall

return <07725> unto me with their whole <03605> heart <03820>.

8  And as the evil <07451> figs <08384>, which <0834> cannot

<03808> be eaten <0398>, they are so evil <07455>; surely

<03588> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, So <03651>

will I give <05414> Zedekiah <06667> the king <04428> of Judah

<03063>, and his princes <08269>, and the residue <07611> of

Jerusalem <03389>, that remain <07604> in this <02063> land

<0776>, and them that dwell <03427> in the land <0776> of Egypt

<04714>:

9  And I will deliver <05414> them to be removed <02189> into

all <03605> the kingdoms <04467> of the earth <0776> for [their]

hurt <07451>, [to be] a reproach <02781> and a proverb <04912>,

a taunt <08148> and a curse <07045>, in all <03605> places

<04725> whither I shall drive <05080> them.

10  And I will send <07971> the sword <02719>, the famine

<07458>, and the pestilence <01698>, among them, till <05704>

they be consumed <08552> from off <05921> the land <0127> that I

gave <05414> unto them and to their fathers <01>.

Jeremiah  25

 1. The word <01697> that came <01961> to Jeremiah <03414>

concerning <05921> all <03605> the people <05971> of Judah

<03063> in the fourth <07243> year <08141> of Jehoiakim <03079>

the son <01121> of Josiah <02977> king <04428> of Judah <03063>,

that [was] the first <07224> year <08141> of Nebuchadrezzar

<05019> king <04428> of Babylon <0894>;

2  The which <0834> Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030> spake

<01696> unto all <03605> the people <05971> of Judah <03063>,

and to all <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389>,

saying <0559>,

3  From the thirteenth year <08141> of Josiah <02977> the son

<01121> of Amon <0526> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, even unto

this <02088> day <03117>, that [is] the three <07969> and

twentieth <06242> year <08141>, the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068> hath come <01961> unto me, and I have spoken <01696>

unto you, rising <07925> early <07925> and speaking <01696>; but

ye have not hearkened <08085>.

4  And the LORD <03068> hath sent <07971> unto you all <03605>

his servants <05650> the prophets <05030>, rising <07925> early

<07925> and sending <07971> [them]; but ye have not hearkened

<08085>, nor <03808> inclined <05186> your ear <0241> to hear

<08085>.

 5  They said <0559>, Turn <07725> ye again <07725> now <04994>

every <0376> one <0376> from his evil <07451> way <01870>, and

from the evil <07455> of your doings <04611>, and dwell <03427>

in the land <0127> that the LORD <03068> hath given <05414> unto

you and to your fathers <01> for ever <05769> and ever <05769>:

 6  And go <03212> not after <0310> other <0312> gods <0430> to

serve <05647> them, and to worship <07812> them, and provoke me

not to anger <03707> with the works <04639> of your hands

<03027>; and I will do you no <03808> hurt <07489>.

7  Yet ye have not hearkened <08085> unto me, saith <05002> the

LORD <03068>; that ye might provoke me to anger <03707> with the

works <04639> of your hands <03027> to your own hurt <07451>.

 8. Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>

of hosts <06635>; Because ye have not heard <08085> my words

<01697>,

 9  Behold <02005>, I will send <07971> and take <03947> all

<03605> the families <04940> of the north <06828>, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>, and Nebuchadrezzar <05019> the king <04428> of

Babylon <0894>, my servant <05650>, and will bring <0935> them

against <05921> this <02063> land <0776>, and against <05921>

the inhabitants <03427> thereof, and against <05921> all <03605>

these <0428> nations <01471> round <05439> about, and will

utterly destroy <02763> them, and make <07760> them an

astonishment <08047>, and an hissing <08322>, and perpetual

<05769> desolations <02723>.

10  Moreover I will take <06> from them the voice <06963> of

mirth <08342>, and the voice <06963> of gladness <08057>, the

voice <06963> of the bridegroom <02860>, and the voice <06963>

of the bride <03618>, the sound <06963> of the millstones

<07347>, and the light <0216> of the candle <05216>.

 11  And this <02063> whole <03605> land <0776> shall be a

desolation <02723>, [and] an astonishment <08047>; and these

<0428> nations <01471> shall serve <05647> the king <04428> of

Babylon <0894> seventy <07657> years <08141>.

12  And it shall come <01961> to pass, when seventy <07657>

years <08141> are accomplished <04390>, [that] I will punish

<06485> the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>, and that nation

<01471>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, for their iniquity

<05771>, and the land <0776> of the Chaldeans <03778>, and will

make <07760> it perpetual <05769> desolations <08077>.

 13  And I will bring <0935> upon that land <0776> all <03605>

my words <01697> which <0834> I have pronounced <01696> against

<05921> it, [even] all <03605> that is written <03789> in this

<02088> book <05612>, which <0834> Jeremiah <03414> hath

prophesied <05012> against <05921> all <03605> the nations

<01471>.

14  For many <07227> nations <01471> and great <01419> kings

<04428> shall serve <05647> themselves of them also <01571>: and

I will recompense <07999> them according to their deeds <06467>,

and according to the works <04639> of their own hands <03027>.

 15. For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> God <0430>

of Israel <03478> unto me; Take <03947> the wine <03196> cup

<03563> of this <02063> fury <02534> at my hand <03027>, and

cause all <03605> the nations <01471>, to whom I send <07971>

thee, to drink <08248> it.

16  And they shall drink <08354>, and be moved <01607>, and be

mad <01984>, because <06440> of the sword <02719> that I will

send <07971> among <0996> them.

 17  Then took <03947> I the cup <03563> at the LORD'S <03068>

hand <03027>, and made all <03605> the nations <01471> to drink

<08248>, unto whom the LORD <03068> had sent <07971> me:

18  [To wit], Jerusalem <03389>, and the cities <05892> of

Judah <03063>, and the kings <04428> thereof, and the princes

<08269> thereof, to make <05414> them a desolation <02723>, an

astonishment <08047>, an hissing <08322>, and a curse <07045>;

as [it is] this <02088> day <03117>;

19  Pharaoh <06547> king <04428> of Egypt <04714>, and his

servants <05650>, and his princes <08269>, and all <03605> his

people <05971>;

20  And all <03605> the mingled <06154> people, and all <03605>

the kings <04428> of the land <0776> of Uz <05780>, and all

<03605> the kings <04428> of the land <0776> of the Philistines

<06430>, and Ashkelon <0831>, and Azzah <05804>, and Ekron

<06138>, and the remnant <07611> of Ashdod <0795>,

21  Edom <0123>, and Moab <04124>, and the children <01121> of

Ammon <05983>,

22  And all <03605> the kings <04428> of Tyrus <06865>, and all

<03605> the kings <04428> of Zidon <06721>, and the kings

<04428> of the isles <0339> which <0834> [are] beyond <05676>

the sea <03220>,

23  Dedan <01719>, and Tema <08485>, and Buz <0938>, and all

<03605> [that are] in the utmost <07112> corners <06285>,

24  And all <03605> the kings <04428> of Arabia <06152>, and

all <03605> the kings <04428> of the mingled <06154> people that

dwell <07931> in the desert <04057>,

25  And all <03605> the kings <04428> of Zimri <02174>, and all

<03605> the kings <04428> of Elam <05867>, and all <03605> the

kings <04428> of the Medes <04074>,

26  And all <03605> the kings <04428> of the north <06828>, far

<07350> and near <07138>, one <0376> with another <0250>, and

all <03605> the kingdoms <04467> of the world <0776>, which

<0834> [are] upon the face <06440> of the earth <0127>: and the

king <04428> of Sheshach <08347> shall drink <08354> after

<0310> them.

27  Therefore thou shalt say <0559> unto them, Thus <03541>

saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>, the God <0430>

of Israel <03478>; Drink <08354> ye, and be drunken <07937>, and

spue <07006>, and fall <05307>, and rise <06965> no <03808> more,

because <06440> of the sword <02719> which <0834> I will send

<07971> among <0996> you.

28  And it shall be, if they refuse <03985> to take <03947> the

cup <03563> at thine hand <03027> to drink <08354>, then shalt

thou say <0559> unto them, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635>; Ye shall certainly drink <08354>.

 29  For, lo <02009>, I begin <02490> to bring evil <07489> on

the city <05892> which <0834> is called <07121> by my name

<08034>, and should ye be utterly unpunished <05352>? Ye shall

not be unpunished <05352>: for I will call <07121> for a sword

<02719> upon all <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of the earth

<0776>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>.

 30. Therefore prophesy <05012> thou against <0413> them all

<03605> these <0428> words <01697>, and say <0559> unto them,

The LORD <03068> shall roar <07580> from on high <04791>, and

utter <05414> his voice <06963> from his holy <06944> habitation

<04583>; he shall mightily roar <07580> upon his habitation

<05116>; he shall give a shout, as they that tread <01869> [the

grapes], against <0413> all <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of

the earth <0776>.

31  A noise <07588> shall come <0935> [even] to the ends

<07097> of the earth <0776>; for the LORD <03068> hath a

controversy <07379> with the nations <01471>, he will plead

<08199> with all <03605> flesh <01320>; he will give <05414>

them [that are] wicked <07563> to the sword <02719>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>.

 32  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

 Behold <02009>, evil <07451> shall go <03318> forth <03318>

from nation <01471> to nation <01471>, and a great <01419>

whirlwind <05591> shall be raised <05782> up from the coasts

<03411> of the earth <0776>.

33  And the slain <02491> of the LORD <03068> shall be at that

day <03117> from [one] end <07097> of the earth <0776> even unto

the [other] end <07097> of the earth <0776>: they shall not be

lamented <05594>, neither <03808> gathered <0622>, nor <03808>

buried <06912>; they shall be dung <01828> upon the ground

<0127>.

34  Howl <03213>, ye shepherds <07462>, and cry <02199>; and

wallow <06428> yourselves [in the ashes], ye principal <0117> of

the flock <06629>: for the days <03117> of your slaughter

<02873> and of your dispersions <08600> are accomplished <04390>;

and ye shall fall <05307> like a pleasant <02532> vessel

<03627>.

35  And the shepherds <07462> shall have no <04480> way <04498>

to flee <04498>, nor the principal <0117> of the flock <06629>

to escape <06413>.

 36  A voice <06963> of the cry <06818> of the shepherds <07462>,

and an howling <03213> of the principal <0117> of the flock

<06629>, [shall be heard <08085>]: for the LORD <03068> hath

spoiled <07703> their pasture <04830>.

37  And the peaceable <07965> habitations <04999> are cut

<01826> down because <06440> of the fierce <02740> anger <0639>

of the LORD <03068>.

38  He hath forsaken <05800> his covert <05520>, as the lion

<03715>: for their land <0776> is desolate <08047> because

<06440> of the fierceness <02740> of the oppressor <03238>, and

because <06440> of his fierce <02740> anger <0639>.

Jeremiah  26

 1. In the beginning <07225> of the reign <04468> of Jehoiakim

<03079> the son <01121> of Josiah <02977> king <04428> of Judah

<03063> came <01961> this <02088> word <01697> from the LORD

<03068>, saying <0559>,

 2  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Stand <05975> in

the court <02691> of the LORD'S <03068> house <01004>, and speak

<01696> unto all <03605> the cities <05892> of Judah <03063>,

which come <0935> to worship <07812> in the LORD'S <03068> house

<01004>, all <03605> the words <01697> that I command <06680>

thee to speak <01696> unto them; diminish <01639> not a word

<01697>:

3  If <0194> so be they will hearken <08085>, and turn <07725>

every man <0376> from his evil <07451> way <01870>, that I may

repent <05162> me of the evil <07451>, which <0834> I purpose

<02803> to do <06213> unto them because <06440> of the evil

<07455> of their doings <04611>.

4  And thou shalt say <0559> unto them, Thus <03541> saith

<0559> the LORD <03068>; If <0518> ye will not hearken <08085>

to me, to walk <01980> in my law <08451>, which <0834> I have

set <05414> before <06440> you,

5  To hearken <08085> to the words <01697> of my servants

<05650> the prophets <05030>, whom <0834> I sent <07971> unto

you, both rising <07925> up early <07925>, and sending <07971>

[them], but ye have not hearkened <08085>;

 6  Then will I make <05414> this <02088> house <01004> like

Shiloh <07887>, and will make <05414> this <02063> city <05892>

a curse <07045> to all <03605> the nations <01471> of the earth

<0776>.

 7. So the priests <03548> and the prophets <05030> and all

<03605> the people <05971> heard <08085> Jeremiah <03414>

speaking <01696> these <0428> words <01697> in the house <01004>

of the LORD <03068>.

8  Now it came <01961> to pass, when Jeremiah <03414> had made

an end <03615> of speaking <01696> all <03605> that the LORD

<03068> had commanded <06680> [him] to speak <01696> unto all

<03605> the people <05971>, that the priests <03548> and the

prophets <05030> and all <03605> the people <05971> took <08610>

him, saying <0559>, Thou shalt surely die <04191>.

9  Why <04069> hast thou prophesied <05012> in the name <08034>

of the LORD <03068>, saying <0559>, This <02088> house <01004>

shall be like Shiloh <07887>, and this <02063> city <05892>

shall be desolate <02717> without <0369> an inhabitant <03427>?

And all <03605> the people <05971> were gathered <06950> against

<0413> Jeremiah <03414> in the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>.

10  When the princes <08269> of Judah <03063> heard <08085>

these <0428> things <01697>, then they came <05927> up from the

king's <04428> house <01004> unto the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>, and sat <03427> down in the entry <06607> of the new

<02319> gate <08179> of the LORD'S <03068> [house].

11  Then spake <0559> the priests <03548> and the prophets

<05030> unto the princes <08269> and to all <03605> the people

<05971>, saying <0559>, This <02088> man <0376> [is] worthy to

die <04194>; for he hath prophesied <05012> against <0413> this

<02063> city <05892>, as ye have heard <08085> with your ears

<0241>.

12  Then spake <0559> Jeremiah <03414> unto all <03605> the

princes <08269> and to all <03605> the people <05971>, saying

<0559>, The LORD <03068> sent <07971> me to prophesy <05012>

against <0413> this <02088> house <01004> and against <0413>

this <02063> city <05892> all <03605> the words <01697> that ye

have heard <08085>.

13  Therefore now <06258> amend <03190> your ways <01870> and

your doings <04611>, and obey <08085> the voice <06963> of the

LORD <03068> your God <0430>; and the LORD <03068> will repent

<05162> him of the evil <07451> that he hath pronounced <01696>

against <05921> you.

14  As for me, behold <02005>, I [am] in your hand <03027>: do

<06213> with me as seemeth <05869> good <02896> and meet <03477>

unto you.

15  But know <03045> ye for certain <03045>, that if <0518> ye

put me to death <04191>, ye shall surely <03588> bring <05414>

innocent <05355> blood <01818> upon yourselves, and upon this

<02063> city <05892>, and upon the inhabitants <03427> thereof:

for of a truth <0571> the LORD <03068> hath sent <07971> me unto

you to speak <01696> all <03605> these <0428> words <01697> in

your ears <0241>.

 16. Then said <0559> the princes <08269> and all <03605> the

people <05971> unto the priests <03548> and to the prophets

<05030>; This <02088> man <0376> [is] not worthy to die <04194>:

for he hath spoken <01696> to us in the name <08034> of the LORD

<03068> our God <0430>.

17  Then rose <06965> up certain <0582> of the elders <02205>

of the land <0776>, and spake <0559> to all <03605> the assembly

<06951> of the people <05971>, saying <0559>,

 18  Micah <04320> the Morasthite <04183> prophesied <05012> in

the days <03117> of Hezekiah <02396> king <04428> of Judah

<03063>, and spake <0559> to all <03605> the people <05971> of

Judah <03063>, saying <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635>; Zion <06726> shall be plowed <02790>

[like] a field <07704>, and Jerusalem <03389> shall become

<01961> heaps <05856>, and the mountain <02022> of the house

<01004> as the high <01116> places of a forest <03293>.

19  Did Hezekiah <02396> king <04428> of Judah <03063> and all

<03605> Judah <03063> put him at all <03605> to death <04191>?

did he not fear <03373> the LORD <03068>, and besought <02470>

the LORD <03068>, and the LORD <03068> repented <05162> him of

the evil <07451> which <0834> he had pronounced <01696> against

<05921> them? Thus might we procure <06213> great <01419> evil

<07451> against <05921> our souls <05315>.

20  And there was also <01571> a man <0376> that prophesied

<05012> in the name <08034> of the LORD <03068>, Urijah <0223>

the son <01121> of Shemaiah <08098> of Kirjathjearim <07157>,

who prophesied <05012> against <05921> this <02063> city <05892>

and against <05921> this <02063> land <0776> according to all

<03605> the words <01697> of Jeremiah <03414>:

21  And when Jehoiakim <03079> the king <04428>, with all

<03605> his mighty <01368> men, and all <03605> the princes

<08269>, heard <08085> his words <01697>, the king <04428>

sought <01245> to put him to death <04191>: but when Urijah

<0223> heard <08085> it, he was afraid <03372>, and fled <01272>,

 and went <0935> into Egypt <04714>;

22  And Jehoiakim <03079> the king <04428> sent <07971> men

<0582> into Egypt <04714>, [namely], Elnathan <0494> the son

<01121> of Achbor <05907>, and [certain] men <0582> with him

into <0413> Egypt <04714>.

23  And they fetched <03318> forth <03318> Urijah <0223> out of

Egypt <04714>, and brought <0935> him unto Jehoiakim <03079> the

king <04428>; who slew <05221> him with the sword <02719>, and

cast <07993> his dead <05038> body <05038> into <0413> the

graves <06913> of the common <01121> people <05971>.

24  Nevertheless <0389> the hand <03027> of Ahikam <0296> the

son <01121> of Shaphan <08227> was with Jeremiah <03414>, that

they should not give <05414> him into the hand <03027> of the

people <05971> to put him to death <04191>.

Jeremiah  27

 1. In the beginning <07225> of the reign <04467> of Jehoiakim

<03079> the son <01121> of Josiah <02977> king <04428> of Judah

<03063> came <01961> this <02088> word <01697> unto Jeremiah

<03414> from the LORD <03068>, saying <0559>,

2  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> to me; Make

<06213> thee bonds <04147> and yokes <04133>, and put <05414>

them upon thy neck <06677>,

3  And send <07971> them to the king <04428> of Edom <0123>,

and to the king <04428> of Moab <04124>, and to the king <04428>

of the Ammonites <05984>, and to the king <04428> of Tyrus

<06865>, and to the king <04428> of Zidon <06721>, by the hand

<03027> of the messengers <04397> which come <0935> to Jerusalem

<03389> unto Zedekiah <06667> king <04428> of Judah <03063>;

4  And command <06680> them to say <0559> unto their masters

<0113>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts

<06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; Thus <03541> shall ye

say <0559> unto your masters <0113>;

5  I have made <06213> the earth <0776>, the man <0120> and the

beast <0929> that [are] upon the ground <0776>, by my great

<01419> power <03581> and by my outstretched <05186> arm <02220>,

and have given <05414> it unto whom <0834> it seemed <05869>

meet <03474> unto me.

 6  And now <06258> have I given <05414> all <03605> these

<0428> lands <0776> into <0413> the hand <03027> of

Nebuchadnezzar <05019> the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>, my

servant <05650>; and the beasts <02416> of the field <07704>

have I given <05414> him also <01571> to serve <05647> him.

7  And all <03605> nations <01471> shall serve <05647> him, and

his son <01121>, and his son's <01121> son <01121>, until

<05704> the very time <06256> of his land <0776> come <0935>:

and then many <07227> nations <01471> and great <01419> kings

<04428> shall serve <05647> themselves of him.

8  And it shall come <01961> to pass, [that] the nation <01471>

and kingdom <04467> which <0834> will not serve <05647> the same

Nebuchadnezzar <05019> the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>, and

that will not put <05414> their neck <06677> under the yoke

<05923> of the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>, that nation

<01471> will I punish <06485>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>,

with the sword <02719>, and with the famine <07458>, and with

the pestilence <01698>, until <05704> I have consumed <08552>

them by his hand <03027>.

9  Therefore hearken <08085> not ye to your prophets <05030>,

nor to your diviners <07080>, nor to your dreamers <02492>, nor

to your enchanters <06049>, nor to your sorcerers <03786>, which

<0834> speak <0559> unto you, saying <0559>, Ye shall not serve

<05647> the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>:

10  For they prophesy <05012> a lie <08267> unto you, to remove

<07368> you far <07368> from your land <0127>; and that I should

drive <05080> you out, and ye should perish <06>.

11  But the nations <01471> that bring <0935> their neck

<06677> under the yoke <05923> of the king <04428> of Babylon

<0894>, and serve <05647> him, those will I let remain <03241>

still in their own land <0127>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>;

and they shall till <05647> it, and dwell <03427> therein.

 12. I spake <01696> also to Zedekiah <06667> king <04428> of

Judah <03063> according to all <03605> these <0428> words

<01697>, saying <0559>, Bring <0935> your necks <06677> under

the yoke <05923> of the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>, and

serve <05647> him and his people <05971>, and live <02421>.

13  Why <04100> will ye die <04191>, thou and thy people

<05971>, by the sword <02719>, by the famine <07458>, and by the

pestilence <01698>, as the LORD <03068> hath spoken <01696>

against <0413> the nation <01471> that will not serve <05647>

the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>?

14  Therefore hearken <08085> not unto the words <01697> of the

prophets <05030> that speak <0559> unto you, saying <0559>, Ye

shall not serve <05647> the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>: for

they prophesy <05012> a lie <08267> unto you.

15  For I have not sent <07971> them, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>, yet they prophesy <05012> a lie <08267> in my name

<08034>; that I might drive <05080> you out, and that ye might

perish <06>, ye, and the prophets <05030> that prophesy <05012>

unto you.

16  Also I spake <01696> to the priests <03548> and to all

<03605> this <02088> people <05971>, saying <0559>, Thus <03541>

saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Hearken <08085> not to the words

<01697> of your prophets <05030> that prophesy <05012> unto you,

saying <0559>, Behold <02009>, the vessels <03627> of the LORD'S

<03068> house <01004> shall now <06258> shortly <04120> be

brought <07725> again <07725> from Babylon <0894>: for they

prophesy <05012> a lie <08267> unto you.

17  Hearken <08085> not unto them; serve <05647> the king

<04428> of Babylon <0894>, and live <02421>: wherefore <04100>

should this <02063> city <05892> be laid waste <02723>?

18  But if <0518> they [be] prophets <05030>, and if <0518> the

word <01697> of the LORD <03068> be with them, let them now

<04994> make intercession <06293> to the LORD <03068> of hosts

<06635>, that the vessels <03627> which are left <03498> in the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and [in] the house <01004> of

the king <04428> of Judah <03063>, and at Jerusalem <03389>, go

<0935> not to Babylon <0894>.

19  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts

<06635> concerning <05921> the pillars <05982>, and concerning

<05921> the sea <03220>, and concerning <05921> the bases

<04369>, and concerning <05921> the residue <03499> of the

vessels <03627> that remain <03498> in this <02063> city <05892>,

 20  Which <0834> Nebuchadnezzar <05019> king <04428> of Babylon

<0894> took <03947> not, when he carried <01546> away captive

<01540> Jeconiah <03204> the son <01121> of Jehoiakim <03079>

king <04428> of Judah <03063> from Jerusalem <03389> to Babylon

<0894>, and all <03605> the nobles <02715> of Judah <03063> and

Jerusalem <03389>;

 21  Yea <03588>, thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of

hosts <06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>, concerning

<05921> the vessels <03627> that remain <03498> [in] the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>, and [in] the house <01004> of the

king <04428> of Judah <03063> and of Jerusalem <03389>;

22  They shall be carried <0935> to Babylon <0894>, and there

<08033> shall they be until <05704> the day <03117> that I visit

<06485> them, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>; then will I bring

<05927> them up, and restore <07725> them to this <02008> place

<04725>.

Jeremiah  28

 1. And it came <01961> to pass the same <01931> year <08141>,

in the beginning <07225> of the reign <04467> of Zedekiah

<06667> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, in the fourth <07243>

year <08141>, [and] in the fifth <02549> month <02320>, [that]

Hananiah <02608> the son <01121> of Azur <05809> the prophet

<05030>, which <0834> [was] of Gibeon <01391>, spake <0559> unto

me in the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, in the presence

<05869> of the priests <03548> and of all <03605> the people

<05971>, saying <0559>,

2  Thus <03541> speaketh <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts

<06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>, saying <0559>, I have

broken <07665> the yoke <05923> of the king <04428> of Babylon

<0894>.

 3  Within <05750> two full <03117> years <08141> will I bring

<07725> again <07725> into this <02008> place <04725> all

<03605> the vessels <03627> of the LORD'S <03068> house <01004>,

that Nebuchadnezzar <05019> king <04428> of Babylon <0894> took

<03947> away from this <02008> place <04725>, and carried <0935>

them to Babylon <0894>:

 4  And I will bring <07725> again <07725> to this <02008> place

<04725> Jeconiah <03204> the son <01121> of Jehoiakim <03079>

king <04428> of Judah <03063>, with all <03605> the captives

<01546> of Judah <03063>, that went <0935> into Babylon <0894>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>: for I will break <07665> the

yoke <05923> of the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>.

5  Then the prophet <05030> Jeremiah <03414> said <0559> unto

the prophet <05030> Hananiah <02608> in the presence <05869> of

the priests <03548>, and in the presence <05869> of all <03605>

the people <05971> that stood <05975> in the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>,

6  Even the prophet <05030> Jeremiah <03414> said <0559>, Amen

<0543>: the LORD <03068> do <06213> so <03651>: the LORD <03068>

perform <06965> thy words <01697> which <0834> thou hast

prophesied <05012>, to bring <07725> again <07725> the vessels

<03627> of the LORD'S <03068> house <01004>, and all <03605>

that is carried <01473> away captive <01473>, from Babylon

<0894> into <0413> this <02008> place <04725>.

 7  Nevertheless <0389> hear <08085> thou now <04994> this

<02008> word <01697> that I speak <01696> in thine ears <0241>,

and in the ears <0241> of all <03605> the people <05971>;

8  The prophets <05030> that have been <01961> before <06440>

me and before <06440> thee of old <05769> prophesied <05012>

both against <0413> many <07227> countries <0776>, and against

<05921> great <01419> kingdoms <04467>, of war <04421>, and of

evil <07451>, and of pestilence <01698>.

 9  The prophet <05030> which <0834> prophesieth <05012> of

peace <07965>, when the word <01697> of the prophet <05030>

shall come <0935> to pass, [then] shall the prophet <05030> be

known <03045>, that the LORD <03068> hath truly <0571> sent

<07971> him.

 10. Then Hananiah <02608> the prophet <05030> took <03947> the

yoke <04133> from off <05921> the prophet <05030> Jeremiah's

<03414> neck <06677>, and brake <07665> it.

11  And Hananiah <02608> spake <0559> in the presence <05869>

of all <03605> the people <05971>, saying <0559>, Thus <03602>

saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Even <03602> so <03602> will I

break <07665> the yoke <05923> of Nebuchadnezzar <05019> king

<04428> of Babylon <0894> from the neck <06677> of all <03605>

nations <01471> within <05750> the space <05750> of two full

<03117> years <08141>. And the prophet <05030> Jeremiah <03414>

went <03212> his way <01870>.

12  Then the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> unto

Jeremiah <03414> [the prophet], after <0310> that Hananiah

<02608> the prophet <05030> had broken <07665> the yoke <04133>

from off <05921> the neck <06677> of the prophet <05030>

Jeremiah <03414>, saying <0559>,

 13  Go <01980> and tell <0559> Hananiah <02608>, saying <0559>,

Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Thou hast broken

<07665> the yokes <04133> of wood <06086>; but thou shalt make

<06213> for them yokes <04133> of iron <01270>.

14  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts

<06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; I have put <05414> a

yoke <05923> of iron <01270> upon the neck <06677> of all

<03605> these <0428> nations <01471>, that they may serve

<05647> Nebuchadnezzar <05019> king <04428> of Babylon <0894>;

and they shall serve <05647> him: and I have given <05414> him

the beasts <02416> of the field <07704> also <01571>.

15  Then said <0559> the prophet <05030> Jeremiah <03414> unto

Hananiah <02608> the prophet <05030>, Hear <08085> now <04994>,

Hananiah <02608>; The LORD <03068> hath not sent <07971> thee;

but thou makest this <02008> people <05971> to trust <0982> in a

lie <08267>.

 16  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>; Behold <02005>, I will cast <07971> thee from off

<05921> the face <06440> of the earth <0127>: this year <08141>

thou shalt die <04191>, because <03588> thou hast taught <01696>

rebellion <05627> against <0413> the LORD <03068>.

17  So Hananiah <02608> the prophet <05030> died <04191> the

same <01931> year <08141> in the seventh <07637> month <02320>.

Jeremiah  29

 1. Now these <0428> [are] the words <01697> of the letter

<05612> that Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030> sent <07971>

from Jerusalem <03389> unto the residue <03499> of the elders

<02205> which were carried <01473> away captives <01473>, and to

the priests <03548>, and to the prophets <05030>, and to all

<03605> the people <05971> whom <0834> Nebuchadnezzar <05019>

had carried <01540> away captive <01473> from Jerusalem <03389>

to Babylon <0894>;

2  (After that Jeconiah <03204> the king <04428>, and the queen

<01377>, and the eunuchs <05631>, the princes <08269> of Judah

<03063> and Jerusalem <03389>, and the carpenters <02796>, and

the smiths <04525>, were departed <03318> from Jerusalem <03389>;

)

3  By the hand <03027> of Elasah <0501> the son <01121> of

Shaphan <08227>, and Gemariah <01587> the son <01121> of Hilkiah

<02518>, (whom Zedekiah <06667> king <04428> of Judah <03063>

sent <07971> unto Babylon <0894> to Nebuchadnezzar <05019> king

<04428> of Babylon <0894>) saying <0559>,

 4  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

the God <0430> of Israel <03478>, unto all <03605> that are

carried <01473> away captives <01473>, whom <0834> I have caused

to be carried <01540> away from Jerusalem <03389> unto Babylon

<0894>;

 5  Build <01129> ye houses <01004>, and dwell <03427> [in them];

and plant <05193> gardens <01593>, and eat <0398> the fruit

<06529> of them;

 6  Take <03947> ye wives <0802>, and beget <03205> sons <01121>

and daughters <01121>; and take <03947> wives <0802> for your

sons <01121>, and give <05414> your daughters <01121> to

husbands <0582>, that they may bear <03205> sons <01121> and

daughters <01121>; that ye may be increased <07235> there

<08033>, and not diminished <04591>.

7  And seek <01875> the peace <07965> of the city <05892>

whither I have caused you to be carried <01540> away captives

<01540>, and pray <06419> unto the LORD <03068> for it: for in

the peace <07965> thereof shall ye have peace <07965>.

 8. For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts

<06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; Let not your prophets

<05030> and your diviners <07080>, that [be] in the midst

<07130> of you, deceive <05377> you, neither <0408> hearken

<08085> to your dreams <02472> which <0834> ye cause to be

dreamed <02492>.

9  For they prophesy <05012> falsely <08267> unto you in my

name <08034>: I have not sent <07971> them, saith <05002> the

LORD <03068>.

10  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, That after

<06310> seventy <07657> years <08141> be accomplished <04390> at

Babylon <0894> I will visit <06485> you, and perform <06965> my

good <02896> word <01697> toward <05921> you, in causing you to

return <07725> to this <02088> place <04725>.

 11  For I know <03045> the thoughts <04284> that I think

<02803> toward <05921> you, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>,

thoughts <04284> of peace <07965>, and not of evil <07451>, to

give <05414> you an expected <08615> end <0319>.

12  Then shall ye call <07121> upon me, and ye shall go <01980>

and pray <06419> unto me, and I will hearken <08085> unto you.

13  And ye shall seek <01245> me, and find <04672> [me], when

<03588> ye shall search <01875> for me with all <03605> your

heart <03824>.

14  And I will be found <04672> of you, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>: and I will turn <07725> away your captivity <07622>,

and I will gather <06908> you from all <03605> the nations

<01471>, and from all <03605> the places <04725> whither I have

driven <05080> you, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>; and I will

bring <07725> you again <07725> into <0413> the place <04725>

whence I caused you to be carried <01540> away captive <01540>.

 15. Because <03588> ye have said <0559>, The LORD <03068> hath

raised <06965> us up prophets <05030> in Babylon <0894>;

16  [Know] that thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of

the king <04428> that sitteth <03427> upon the throne <03678> of

David <01732>, and of all <03605> the people <05971> that

dwelleth <03427> in this <02063> city <05892>, [and] of your

brethren <0251> that are not gone <03318> forth <03318> with you

into captivity <01473>;
