Jeremiah 29b

 17  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>;

Behold <02005>, I will send <07971> upon them the sword <02719>,

the famine <07458>, and the pestilence <01698>, and will make

<05414> them like vile <08182> figs <08384>, that cannot <03808>

be eaten <0398>, they are so evil <07455>.

18  And I will persecute them with the sword <02719>, with the

famine <07458>, and with the pestilence <01698>, and will

deliver <05414> them to be removed <02189> to all <03605> the

kingdoms <04467> of the earth <0776>, to be a curse <0423>, and

an astonishment <08047>, and an hissing <08322>, and a reproach

<02781>, among all <03605> the nations <01471> whither I have

driven <05080> them:

19  Because they have not hearkened <08085> to my words <01697>,

 saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, which <0834> I sent <07971>

unto them by my servants <05650> the prophets <05030>, rising

<07925> up early <07925> and sending <07971> [them]; but ye

would not hear <08085>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

20  Hear <08085> ye therefore the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068>, all <03605> ye of the captivity <01473>, whom <0834> I

have sent <07971> from Jerusalem <03389> to Babylon <0894>:

 21  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

the God <0430> of Israel <03478>, of Ahab <0256> the son

<01121> of Kolaiah <06964>, and of Zedekiah <06667> the son

<01121> of Maaseiah <04641>, which prophesy <05012> a lie

<08267> unto you in my name <08034>; Behold <02009>, I will

deliver <05414> them into the hand <03027> of Nebuchadrezzar

<05019> king <04428> of Babylon <0894>; and he shall slay

<05221> them before your eyes <05869>;

22  And of them shall be taken <03947> up a curse <07045> by

all <03605> the captivity <01546> of Judah <03063> which <0834>

[are] in Babylon <0894>, saying <0559>, The LORD <03068> make

<07760> thee like Zedekiah <06667> and like Ahab <0256>, whom

<0834> the king <04428> of Babylon <0894> roasted <07033> in the

fire <0784>;

23  Because they have committed <06213> villany <05039> in

Israel <03478>, and have committed <06213> adultery <05003> with

their neighbours <07453>' wives <0802>, and have spoken <01696>

lying <08267> words <01697> in my name <08034>, which <0834> I

have not commanded <06680> them; even I know <03045>, and [am] a

witness <05707>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

 24. [Thus] shalt thou also speak <0559> to Shemaiah <08098> the

Nehelamite <05161>, saying <0559>,

25  Thus <03541> speaketh <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts

<06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>, saying <0559>,

Because thou hast sent <07971> letters <05612> in thy name

<08034> unto all <03605> the people <05971> that [are] at

Jerusalem <03389>, and to Zephaniah <06846> the son <01121> of

Maaseiah <04641> the priest <03548>, and to all <03605> the

priests <03548>, saying <0559>,

26  The LORD <03068> hath made <05414> thee priest <03548> in

the stead <08478> of Jehoiada <03111> the priest <03548>, that

ye should be officers <06496> in the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>, for every man <0376> [that is] mad <07696>, and maketh

himself a prophet <05012>, that thou shouldest put <05414> him

in prison <04115>, and in the stocks <06729>.

27  Now <06258> therefore why <04100> hast thou not reproved

<01605> Jeremiah <03414> of Anathoth <06068>, which maketh

himself a prophet <05012> to you?

28  For therefore he sent <07971> unto us [in] Babylon <0894>,

saying <0559>, This <01931> [captivity is] long <0752>: build

<01129> ye houses <01004>, and dwell <03427> [in them]; and

plant <05193> gardens <01593>, and eat <0398> the fruit <06529>

of them.

29  And Zephaniah <06846> the priest <03548> read <07121> this

letter <05612> in the ears <0241> of Jeremiah <03414> the

prophet <05030>.

30  Then came <01961> the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> unto

Jeremiah <03414>, saying <0559>,

31  Send <07971> to all <03605> them of the captivity <01473>,

saying <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>

concerning <0413> Shemaiah <08098> the Nehelamite <05161>;

Because that Shemaiah <08098> hath prophesied <05012> unto you,

and I sent <07971> him not, and he caused you to trust <0982> in

a lie <08267>:

 32  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>; Behold <02005>, I will punish <06485> Shemaiah <08098>

the Nehelamite <05161>, and his seed <02233>: he shall not have

<01961> a man <0376> to dwell <03427> among <08432> this <02088>

people <05971>; neither <03808> shall he behold <07200> the good

<02896> that I will do <06213> for my people <05971>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>; because <03588> he hath taught <01696>

rebellion <05627> against <05921> the LORD <03068>.

Jeremiah  30

 1. The word <01697> that came <01961> to Jeremiah <03414> from

the LORD <03068>, saying <0559>,

 2  Thus <03541> speaketh <0559> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of

Israel <03478>, saying <0559>, Write <03789> thee all <03605>

the words <01697> that I have spoken <01696> unto thee in a book

<05612>.

 3  For, lo <02009>, the days <03117> come <0935>, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>, that I will bring <07725> again <07725> the

captivity <07622> of my people <05971> Israel <03478> and Judah

<03063>, saith <0559> the LORD <03068>: and I will cause them to

return <07725> to the land <0776> that I gave <05414> to their

fathers <01>, and they shall possess <03423> it.

4  And these <0428> [are] the words <01697> that the LORD

<03068> spake <01696> concerning <0413> Israel <03478> and

concerning <0413> Judah <03063>.

5  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; We have

heard <08085> a voice <06963> of trembling <02731>, of fear

<06343>, and not of peace <07965>.

 6  Ask <07592> ye now <04994>, and see <07200> whether <0518> a

man <02145> doth travail <03205> with child <03205>? wherefore

<04069> do I see <07200> every <03605> man <01397> with his

hands <03027> on <05921> his loins <02504>, as a woman in

travail <03205>, and all <03605> faces <06440> are turned

<02015> into paleness <03420>?

7  Alas <01945>! for that day <03117> [is] great <01419>, so

that none <0369> [is] like <03644> it: it [is] even the time

<06256> of Jacob's <03290> trouble <06869>; but he shall be

saved <03467> out of it.

8  For it shall come <01961> to pass in that day <03117>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>, [that] I will break

<07665> his yoke <05923> from off <05921> thy neck <06677>, and

will burst <05423> thy bonds <04147>, and strangers <02114>

shall no <03808> more <05750> serve <05647> themselves of him:

9  But they shall serve <05647> the LORD <03068> their God

<0430>, and David <01732> their king <04428>, whom <0834> I will

raise <06965> up unto them.

 10. Therefore fear <03372> thou not, O my servant <05650> Jacob

<03290>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>; neither <0408> be

dismayed <02865>, O Israel <03478>: for, lo <02009>, I will save

<03467> thee from afar <07350>, and thy seed <02233> from the

land <0776> of their captivity <07628>; and Jacob <03290> shall

return <07725>, and shall be in rest <08252>, and be quiet

<07599>, and none <0369> shall make [him] afraid <02729>.

11  For I [am] with thee, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, to

save <03467> thee: though <03588> I make <06213> a full end

<03615> of all <03605> nations <01471> whither I have scattered

<06327> thee, yet <0389> will I not make <06213> a full end

<03615> of thee: but I will correct <03256> thee in measure

<04941>, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished <05352>.

12  For thus <03541> saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, Thy bruise

<07667> [is] incurable <0605>, [and] thy wound <04347> [is]

grievous <02470>.

13  [There is] none <0369> to plead <01777> thy cause <01779>,

that thou mayest be bound <04205> up: thou hast no <0369>

healing <08585> medicines <07499>.

 14  All <03605> thy lovers <0157> have forgotten <07911> thee;

they seek <01875> thee not; for I have wounded <05221> thee with

the wound <04347> of an enemy <0341>, with the chastisement

<04148> of a cruel <0394> one, for the multitude <07230> of

thine iniquity <05771>; [because] thy sins <02403> were

increased <06105>.

15  Why <04100> criest <02199> thou for thine affliction

<07667>? thy sorrow <04341> [is] incurable <0605> for the

multitude <07230> of thine iniquity <05771>: [because] thy sins

<02403> were increased <06105>, I have done <06213> these <0428>

things unto thee.

16  Therefore <03651> all <03605> they that devour <0398> thee

shall be devoured <0398>; and all <03605> thine adversaries

<06862>, every <03605> one of them, shall go <03212> into

captivity <07633>; and they that spoil <07701> thee shall be a

spoil <04933>, and all <03605> that prey <0962> upon thee will I

give <05414> for a prey <07998>.

 17  For I will restore <05927> health <0724> unto thee, and I

will heal <07495> thee of thy wounds <04347>, saith the LORD

<03068>; because <03588> they called <07121> thee an Outcast

<05080>, [saying], This <01931> [is] Zion <06726>, whom no

<0369> man seeketh <01875> after <0310>.

 18. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Behold <02005>,

I will bring <07725> again <07725> the captivity <07622> of

Jacob's <03290> tents <0168>, and have mercy <07355> on his

dwellingplaces <04908>; and the city <05892> shall be builded

<01129> upon her own heap <08510>, and the palace <0759> shall

remain <03427> after <05921> the manner <04941> thereof.

19  And out of them shall proceed <03318> thanksgiving <08426>

and the voice <06963> of them that make merry <07832>: and I

will multiply <07235> them, and they shall not be few <04591>; I

will also glorify <03513> them, and they shall not be small

<06819>.

20  Their children <01121> also shall be as aforetime <06924>,

and their congregation <05712> shall be established <03559>

before <06440> me, and I will punish <06485> all <03605> that

oppress <03905> them.

21  And their nobles <0117> shall be of themselves, and their

governor <04910> shall proceed <03318> from the midst <07130> of

them; and I will cause him to draw near <07126>, and he shall

approach <05066> unto me: for who <04310> [is] this that engaged

<06148> his heart <03820> to approach <05066> unto me? saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>.

22  And ye shall be my people <05971>, and I will be your God

<0430>.

23  Behold <02009>, the whirlwind <05591> of the LORD <03068>

goeth <03318> forth <03318> with fury <02534>, a continuing

<01641> whirlwind <05591>: it shall fall <02342> with pain

<02342> upon the head <07218> of the wicked <07563>.

24  The fierce <02740> anger <0639> of the LORD <03068> shall

not return <07725>, until <05704> he have done <06213> [it], and

until <05704> he have performed <06965> the intents <04209> of

his heart <03820>: in the latter <0319> days <03117> ye shall

consider <0995> it.

Jeremiah  31

 1. At the same <01931> time <06256>, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>, will I be the God <0430> of all <03605> the families

<04940> of Israel <03478>, and they shall be my people <05971>.

2  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, The people

<05971> [which were] left <08300> of the sword <02719> found

<04672> grace <02580> in the wilderness <04057>; [even] Israel

<03478>, when I went <01980> to cause him to rest <07280>.

3  The LORD <03068> hath appeared <07200> of old <07350> unto

me, [saying], Yea, I have loved <0157> thee with an everlasting

<05769> love <0160>: therefore with lovingkindness <02617> have

I drawn <04900> thee.

4  Again <05750> I will build <01129> thee, and thou shalt be

built <01129>, O virgin <01330> of Israel <03478>: thou shalt

again <05750> be adorned <05710> with thy tabrets <08596>, and

shalt go <03318> forth <03318> in the dances of them that make

merry <07832>.

5  Thou shalt yet <05750> plant <05193> vines <03754> upon the

mountains <02022> of Samaria <08111>: the planters <05193> shall

plant <05193>, and shall eat [them] as common <02490> things.

6  For there shall be a day <03117>, [that] the watchmen

<05341> upon the mount <02022> Ephraim <0669> shall cry <07121>,

Arise <06965> ye, and let us go <05927> up to Zion <06726> unto

the LORD <03068> our God <0430>.

 7  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Sing <07442>

with gladness <08057> for Jacob <03290>, and shout <06670> among

the chief <07218> of the nations <01471>: publish <08085> ye,

praise <01984> ye, and say <0559>, O LORD <03068>, save <03467>

thy people <05971>, the remnant <07611> of Israel <03478>.

8  Behold <02005>, I will bring <0935> them from the north

<06828> country <0776>, and gather <06908> them from the coasts

<03411> of the earth <0776>, [and] with them the blind <05787>

and the lame <06455>, the woman with child <02030> and her that

travaileth <03205> with child <03205> together <03162>: a great

<01419> company <06951> shall return <07725> thither <02008>.

9  They shall come <0935> with weeping <01065>, and with

supplications <08469> will I lead <02986> them: I will cause

them to walk <01980> by the rivers <05158> of waters <04325> in

a straight <03474> way <01870>, wherein they shall not stumble

<03782>: for I am a father <01> to Israel <03478>, and Ephraim

<0669> [is] my firstborn <01060>.

 10. Hear <08085> the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>, O ye

nations <01471>, and declare <05046> [it] in the isles <0339>

afar <04801> off, and say <0559>, He that scattered <02219>

Israel <03478> will gather <06908> him, and keep <08104> him, as

a shepherd <07462> [doth] his flock <05739>.

11  For the LORD <03068> hath redeemed <06299> Jacob <03290>,

and ransomed <01350> him from the hand <03027> of [him that was]

stronger <02388> than he.

12  Therefore they shall come <0935> and sing <07442> in the

height <04791> of Zion <06726>, and shall flow <05102> together

to the goodness <02898> of the LORD <03068>, for wheat <01715>,

and for wine <08492>, and for oil <03323>, and for the young

<01121> of the flock <06629> and of the herd <01241>: and their

soul <05315> shall be as a watered <07302> garden <01588>; and

they shall not sorrow <01669> any more <03254> at all.

13  Then shall the virgin <01330> rejoice <08057> in the dance

<04234>, both young <0970> men and old <02205> together <03162>:

for I will turn <02015> their mourning <060> into joy <08342>,

and will comfort <05162> them, and make them rejoice <08057>

from their sorrow <03015>.

14  And I will satiate <07301> the soul <05315> of the priests

<03548> with fatness <01880>, and my people <05971> shall be

satisfied <07646> with my goodness <02898>, saith <05002> the

LORD <03068>.

 15  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; A voice <06963>

was heard <08085> in Ramah <07414>, lamentation <05092>, [and]

bitter <08563> weeping <01065>; Rahel <07354> weeping <01058>

for her children <01121> refused <03985> to be comforted <05162>

for her children <01121>, because <03588> they [were] not.

 16  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Refrain <04513>

thy voice <06963> from weeping <01065>, and thine eyes <05869>

from tears <01832>: for thy work <06468> shall be rewarded

<07939>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>; and they shall come

<07725> again <07725> from the land <0776> of the enemy <0341>.

17  And there is hope <08615> in thine end <0319>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>, that thy children <01121> shall come

<07725> again <07725> to their own border <01366>.

 18. I have surely heard <08085> Ephraim <0669> bemoaning

<05110> himself [thus]; Thou hast chastised <03256> me, and I

was chastised <03256>, as a bullock <05695> unaccustomed [to the

yoke]: turn <07725> thou me, and I shall be turned <07725>; for

thou [art] the LORD <03068> my God <0430>.

 19  Surely <03588> after <0310> that I was turned <07725>, I

repented <05162>; and after <0310> that I was instructed <03045>,

 I smote <05606> upon [my] thigh <03409>: I was ashamed <0954>,

yea <01571>, even <01571> confounded <03637>, because <03588> I

did bear <05375> the reproach <02781> of my youth <05271>.

 20  [Is] Ephraim <0669> my dear <03357> son <01121>? [is he] a

pleasant <08191> child <03205>? for since <01767> I spake

<01696> against him, I do earnestly remember <02142> him still

<05750>: therefore my bowels <04578> are troubled <01993> for

him; I will surely have mercy <07355> upon him, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>.

21  Set <05324> thee up waymarks <06725>, make <07760> thee

high <08564> heaps <08564>: set <07896> thine heart <03820>

toward the highway <04546>, [even] the way <01870> [which] thou

wentest <01980>: turn <07725> again <07725>, O virgin <01330> of

Israel <03478>, turn <07725> again <07725> to these <0428> thy

cities <05892>.

 22  How <05704> long <05704> wilt thou go <02559> about <02559>,

O thou backsliding <07728> daughter <01323>? for the LORD

<03068> hath created <01254> a new <02319> thing in the earth

<0776>, A woman <05347> shall compass <05437> a man <01397>.

 23  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; As yet <05750> they shall use

<0559> this <02088> speech <01697> in the land <0776> of Judah

<03063> and in the cities <05892> thereof, when I shall bring

<07725> again <07725> their captivity <07622>; The LORD <03068>

bless <01288> thee, O habitation <05116> of justice <06664>,

[and] mountain <02022> of holiness <06944>.

24  And there shall dwell <03427> in Judah <03063> itself, and

in all <03605> the cities <05892> thereof together <03162>,

husbandmen <0406>, and they [that] go <05265> forth <05265> with

flocks <05739>.

 25  For I have satiated <07301> the weary <05889> soul <05315>,

and I have replenished <04390> every <03605> sorrowful <01669>

soul <05315>.

 26  Upon this <02063> I awaked <06974>, and beheld <07200>; and

my sleep <08142> was sweet <06147> unto me.

 27. Behold <02009>, the days <03117> come <0935>, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>, that I will sow <02232> the house <01004> of

Israel <03478> and the house <01004> of Judah <03063> with the

seed <02233> of man <0120>, and with the seed <02233> of beast

<0929>.

28  And it shall come <01961> to pass, [that] like as I have

watched <08245> over <05921> them, to pluck <05428> up, and to

break <05422> down <05422>, and to throw <02040> down <02040>,

and to destroy <06>, and to afflict <07489>; so <03651> will I

watch <08245> over <05921> them, to build <01129>, and to plant

<05193>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

29  In those <01992> days <03117> they shall say <0559> no

<03808> more <05750>, The fathers <01> have eaten <0398> a sour

<01155> grape <01155>, and the children's <01121> teeth <08127>

are set on edge <06949>.

30  But every <0376> one <0376> shall die <04191> for his own

iniquity <05771>: every man <0120> that eateth <0398> the sour

<01155> grape <01155>, his teeth <08127> shall be set on edge

<06949>.

 31  Behold <02009>, the days <03117> come <0935>, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>, that I will make <03772> a new <02319>

covenant <01285> with the house <01004> of Israel <03478>, and

with the house <01004> of Judah <03063>:

32  Not according to the covenant <01285> that I made <03772>

with their fathers <01> in the day <03117> [that] I took <02388>

them by the hand <03027> to bring <03318> them out of the land

<0776> of Egypt <04714>; which <0834> my covenant <01285> they

brake <06565>, although I was an husband <01167> unto them,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>:

33  But this <02063> [shall be] the covenant <01285> that I

will make <03772> with the house <01004> of Israel <03478>;

After <0310> those <01992> days <03117>, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>, I will put <05414> my law <08451> in their inward

<07130> parts, and write <03789> it in their hearts <03820>; and

will be their God <0430>, and they shall be my people <05971>.

34  And they shall teach <03925> no <03808> more <05750> every

man <0376> his neighbour <07453>, and every man <0376> his

brother <0251>, saying <0559>, Know <03045> the LORD <03068>:

for they shall all <03605> know <03045> me, from the least

<06996> of them unto the greatest <01419> of them, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>: for I will forgive <05545> their iniquity

<05771>, and I will remember <02142> their sin <02403> no

<03808> more <05750>.

 35. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, which giveth

<05414> the sun <08121> for a light <0216> by day <03119>, [and]

the ordinances <02708> of the moon <03394> and of the stars

<03556> for a light <0216> by night <03915>, which divideth

<07280> the sea <03220> when the waves <01530> thereof roar

<01993>; The LORD <03068> of hosts <06635> [is] his name <08034>:

 36  If <0518> those <0428> ordinances <02706> depart <04185>

from before <06440> me, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, [then]

the seed <02233> of Israel <03478> also <01571> shall cease

<07673> from being <01961> a nation <01471> before <06440> me

for ever.

 37  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; If <0518>

heaven <08064> above <04605> can be measured <04058>, and the

foundations <04146> of the earth <0776> searched <02713> out

beneath <04295>, I will also <01571> cast <03988> off all

<03605> the seed <02233> of Israel <03478> for all <03605> that

they have done <06213>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

 38  Behold <02009>, the days <03117> come <0935>, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>, that the city <05892> shall be built <01129>

to the LORD <03068> from the tower <04026> of Hananeel <02606>

unto the gate <08179> of the corner <06438>.

39  And the measuring <04060> line <06957> shall yet <05750> go

<03318> forth <03318> over <05048> against <05048> it upon the

hill <01389> Gareb <01619>, and shall compass <05437> about to

Goath <01601>.

40  And the whole <03605> valley <06010> of the dead <06297>

bodies <06297>, and of the ashes <01880>, and all <03605> the

fields <08309> unto the brook <05158> of Kidron <06939>, unto

the corner <06438> of the horse <05483> gate <08179> toward the

east <04217>, [shall be] holy <06944> unto the LORD <03068>; it

shall not be plucked <05428> up, nor <03808> thrown <02040> down

<02040> any more <05750> for ever <05769>.

Jeremiah  32

 1. The word <01697> that came <01961> to Jeremiah <03414> from

the LORD <03068> in the tenth <06224> year <08141> of Zedekiah

<06667> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, which <01958> [was] the

eighteenth year <08141> of Nebuchadrezzar <05019>.

 2  For then <0227> the king <04428> of Babylon's <0894> army

<02428> besieged <06696> Jerusalem <03389>: and Jeremiah <03414>

the prophet <05030> was shut <03607> up in the court <02691> of

the prison <04307>, which <0834> [was] in the king <04428> of

Judah's <03063> house <01004>.

3  For Zedekiah <06667> king <04428> of Judah <03063> had shut

<03607> him up, saying <0559>, Wherefore <04069> dost thou

prophesy <05012>, and say <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the

LORD <03068>, Behold <02005>, I will give <05414> this <02063>

city <05892> into the hand <03027> of the king <04428> of

Babylon <0894>, and he shall take <03920> it;

4  And Zedekiah <06667> king <04428> of Judah <03063> shall not

escape <04422> out of the hand <03027> of the Chaldeans <03778>,

but shall surely be delivered <05414> into the hand <03027> of

the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>, and shall speak <01696> with

him mouth <06310> to mouth <06310>, and his eyes <05869> shall

behold <07200> his eyes <05869>;

5  And he shall lead <03212> Zedekiah <06667> to Babylon <0894>,

and there <08033> shall he be until <05704> I visit <06485> him,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>: though <03588> ye fight <03898>

with the Chaldeans <03778>, ye shall not prosper <06743>.

6  And Jeremiah <03414> said <0559>, The word <01697> of the

LORD <03068> came <01961> unto me, saying <0559>,

7  Behold <02009>, Hanameel <02601> the son <01121> of Shallum

<07967> thine uncle <01730> shall come <0935> unto thee, saying

<0559>, Buy <07069> thee my field <07704> that [is] in Anathoth

<06068>: for the right <04941> of redemption <01353> [is] thine

to buy <07069> [it].

 8  So Hanameel <02601> mine uncle's <01733> son <01121> came

<0935> to me in the court <02691> of the prison <04307>

according to the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>, and said

<0559> unto me, Buy <07069> my field <07704>, I pray <04994>

thee, that [is] in Anathoth <06068>, which <0834> [is] in the

country <0776> of Benjamin <01144>: for the right <04941> of

inheritance <03425> [is] thine, and the redemption <01353> [is]

thine; buy <07069> [it] for thyself. Then I knew <03045> that

this <01931> [was] the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>.

 9  And I bought <07069> the field <07704> of Hanameel <02601>

my uncle's <01733> son <01121>, that [was] in Anathoth <06068>,

and weighed <08254> him the money <03701>, [even] seventeen

<07651> shekels <08255> of silver <03701>.

10  And I subscribed <03789> the evidence <05612>, and sealed

<02856> [it], and took witnesses <05707>, and weighed <08254>

[him] the money <03701> in the balances <03976>.

11  So I took <03947> the evidence <05612> of the purchase

<04736>, [both] that which was sealed <02856> [according] to the

law <04687> and custom <02706>, and that which was open <01540>:

12  And I gave <05414> the evidence <05612> of the purchase

<04736> unto Baruch <01263> the son <01121> of Neriah <05374>,

the son <01121> of Maaseiah <04271>, in the sight <05869> of

Hanameel <02601> mine uncle's <01733> [son], and in the presence

<05869> of the witnesses <05707> that subscribed <03789> the

book <05612> of the purchase <04736>, before <05869> all <03605>

the Jews <03064> that sat <03427> in the court <02691> of the

prison <04307>.

 13  And I charged <06680> Baruch <01263> before <05869> them,

saying <0559>,

 14  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; Take <03947> these <0428>

evidences <05612>, this <02088> evidence <05612> of the purchase

<04736>, both which is sealed <02856>, and this <02088> evidence

<05612> which is open <01540>; and put <05414> them in an

earthen <02789> vessel <03627>, that they may continue <05975>

many <07227> days <03117>.

15  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts

<06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; Houses <01004> and

fields <07704> and vineyards <03754> shall be possessed <07069>

again <05750> in this <02063> land <0776>.

 16. Now when I had delivered <05414> the evidence <05612> of

the purchase <04736> unto Baruch <01263> the son <01121> of

Neriah <05374>, I prayed <06419> unto the LORD <03068>, saying

<0559>,

 17  Ah <0162> Lord <0136> GOD <03069>! behold <02009>, thou

hast made <06213> the heaven <08064> and the earth <0776> by thy

great <01419> power <03581> and stretched <05186> out arm

<02220>, [and] there is nothing too hard <06381> for thee:

18  Thou shewest <06213> lovingkindness <02617> unto thousands

<0505>, and recompensest <07999> the iniquity <05771> of the

fathers <01> into <0413> the bosom <02436> of their children

<01121> after <0310> them: the Great <01419>, the Mighty <01368>

God <0410>, the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>, [is] his name

<08034>,

19  Great <01419> in counsel <06098>, and mighty <07227> in

work <05950>: for thine eyes <05869> [are] open <06491> upon all

<03605> the ways <01870> of the sons <01121> of men <0120>: to

give <05414> every <0376> one <0376> according to his ways

<01870>, and according to the fruit <06529> of his doings

<04611>:

20  Which <0834> hast set <07760> signs <0226> and wonders

<04159> in the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>, [even] unto this

<02088> day <03119>, and in Israel <03478>, and among [other]

men <0120>; and hast made <06213> thee a name <08034>, as at

<05704> this <02088> day <03119>;

21  And hast brought <03318> forth <03318> thy people <05971>

Israel <03478> out of the land <0776> of Egypt <04714> with

signs <0226>, and with wonders <04159>, and with a strong

<02389> hand <03027>, and with a stretched <05186> out arm

<0248>, and with great <01419> terror <04172>;

22  And hast given <05414> them this <02063> land <0776>, which

<0834> thou didst swear <07650> to their fathers <01> to give

<05414> them, a land <0776> flowing <02100> with milk <02461>

and honey <01706>;

23  And they came <0935> in, and possessed <03423> it; but they

obeyed <08085> not thy voice <06963>, neither <03808> walked

<01980> in thy law <08451>; they have done <06213> nothing

<03808> of all <03605> that thou commandedst <06680> them to do

<06213>: therefore thou hast caused all <03605> this <02063>

evil <07451> to come <07122> upon them:

24  Behold <02009> the mounts <05550>, they are come <0935>

unto the city <05892> to take <03920> it; and the city <05892>

is given <05414> into the hand <03027> of the Chaldeans <03778>,

that fight <03898> against <05921> it, because <06440> of the

sword <02719>, and of the famine <07458>, and of the pestilence

<01698>: and what <0834> thou hast spoken <01696> is come

<01961> to pass; and, behold <02009>, thou seest <07200> [it].

25  And thou hast said <0559> unto me, O Lord <0136> GOD

<03069>, Buy <07069> thee the field <07704> for money <03701>,

and take <05749> witnesses <05707>; for the city <05892> is

given <05414> into the hand <03027> of the Chaldeans <03778>.

 26. Then came <01961> the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> unto

Jeremiah <03414>, saying <0559>,

 27  Behold <02009>, I [am] the LORD <03068>, the God <0430> of

all <03605> flesh <01320>: is there any <03605> thing <01697>

too hard <06381> for me?

 28  Therefore thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>;

Behold <02005>, I will give <05414> this <02063> city <05892>

into the hand <03027> of the Chaldeans <03778>, and into the

hand <03027> of Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king <04428> of Babylon

<0894>, and he shall take <03920> it:

29  And the Chaldeans <03778>, that fight <03898> against

<05921> this <02063> city <05892>, shall come <0935> and set

fire <0784> on this <02063> city <05892>, and burn <08313> it

with the houses <01004>, upon whose <0834> roofs <01406> they

have offered <06999> incense <06999> unto Baal <01168>, and

poured <05258> out drink <05262> offerings unto other <0312>

gods <0430>, to provoke me to anger <03707>.

30  For the children <01121> of Israel <03478> and the children

<01121> of Judah <03063> have only <0389> done <06213> evil

<07451> before <05869> me from their youth <05271>: for the

children <01121> of Israel <03478> have only <0389> provoked me

to anger <03707> with the work <04639> of their hands <03027>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

31  For this <02063> city <05892> hath been <01961> to me [as]

a provocation <03708> of mine anger <0639> and of my fury

<02534> from the day <03119> that they built <01129> it even

unto this <02088> day <03119>; that I should remove <05493> it

from before <05921> my face <06440>,

32  Because <05921> of all <03605> the evil <07451> of the

children <01121> of Israel <03478> and of the children <01121>

of Judah <03063>, which <0834> they have done <06213> to provoke

me to anger <03707>, they, their kings <04428>, their princes

<08269>, their priests <03548>, and their prophets <05030>, and

the men <0376> of Judah <03063>, and the inhabitants <03427> of

Jerusalem <03389>.

33  And they have turned <06437> unto me the back <06203>, and

not the face <06440>: though I taught <03925> them, rising

<07925> up early <07925> and teaching <03925> [them], yet they

have not hearkened <08085> to receive <03947> instruction

<04148>.

34  But they set <07760> their abominations <08251> in the

house <01004>, which <0834> is called <07121> by my name <08034>,

 to defile <02930> it.

35  And they built <01129> the high <01116> places of Baal

<01168>, which <0834> [are] in the valley <01516> of the son

<01121> of Hinnom <02011>, to cause <04616> their sons <01121>

and their daughters <01121> to pass <05674> through [the fire

<0784>] unto Molech <04432>; which <0834> I commanded <06680>

them not, neither <03808> came <05927> it into <05921> my mind

<03820>, that they should do <06213> this <02063> abomination

<08441>, to cause Judah <03063> to sin <02398>.

 36  And now <06258> therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559>

the LORD <03068>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>, concerning

<0413> this <02063> city <05892>, whereof <0834> ye say <0559>,

It shall be delivered <05414> into the hand <03027> of the king

<04428> of Babylon <0894> by the sword <02719>, and by the

famine <07458>, and by the pestilence <01698>;

37  Behold <02005>, I will gather <06908> them out of all

<03605> countries <0776>, whither I have driven <05080> them in

mine anger <0639>, and in my fury <02534>, and in great <01419>

wrath <07110>; and I will bring <07725> them again <07725> unto

this place <04725>, and I will cause them to dwell <03427>

safely <0983>:

38  And they shall be my people <05971>, and I will be their

God <0430>:

 39  And I will give <05414> them one <0259> heart <03820>, and

one <0259> way <01870>, that they may fear <03372> me for ever,

for the good <02896> of them, and of their children <01121>

after <0310> them:

40  And I will make <03772> an everlasting <05769> covenant

<01285> with them, that I will not turn <07725> away from them,

to do them good <03190>; but I will put <05414> my fear <03374>

in their hearts <03824>, that they shall not depart <05493> from

me.

41  Yea, I will rejoice <07797> over <05921> them to do them

good <02895>, and I will plant <05193> them in this <02063> land

<0776> assuredly <0571> with my whole <03605> heart <03820> and

with my whole <03605> soul <05315>.

 42  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Like as I

have brought <0935> all <03605> this <02063> great <01419> evil

<07451> upon this <02088> people <05971>, so <03651> will I

bring <0935> upon them all <03605> the good <02896> that I have

promised <01696> them.

43  And fields <07704> shall be bought <07069> in this <02063>

land <0776>, whereof <0834> ye say <0559>, [It is] desolate

<08077> without <0369> man <0120> or beast <0929>; it is given

<05414> into the hand <03027> of the Chaldeans <03778>.

44  Men shall buy <07069> fields <07704> for money <03701>, and

subscribe <03789> evidences <05612>, and seal <02856> [them],

and take <05749> witnesses <05707> in the land <0776> of

Benjamin <01144>, and in the places about <05439> Jerusalem

<03389>, and in the cities <05892> of Judah <03063>, and in the

cities <05892> of the mountains <02022>, and in the cities

<05892> of the valley <08219>, and in the cities <05892> of the

south <05045>: for I will <07522> cause their captivity <07622>

to return <07725>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

Jeremiah  33

 1. Moreover the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961>

unto Jeremiah <03414> the second <08145> time, while he was yet

<05750> shut <06113> up in the court <02691> of the prison

<04307>, saying <0559>,

 2  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> the maker <06213>

thereof, the LORD <03068> that formed <03335> it, to establish

<03559> it; the LORD <03068> [is] his name <08034>;

3  Call <07121> unto me, and I will answer <06030> thee, and

shew <05046> thee great <01419> and mighty <01219> things, which

thou knowest <03045> not.

4  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, the God

<0430> of Israel <03478>, concerning <05921> the houses <01004>

of this <02063> city <05892>, and concerning <05921> the houses

<01004> of the kings <04428> of Judah <03063>, which are thrown

<05422> down <05422> by the mounts <05550>, and by the sword

<02719>;

5  They come <0935> to fight <03898> with the Chaldeans <03778>,

but [it is] to fill <04390> them with the dead <06297> bodies

<06297> of men <0120>, whom <0834> I have slain <05221> in mine

anger <0639> and in my fury <02534>, and for all <03605> whose

<0834> wickedness <07451> I have hid <05641> my face <06440>

from this <02063> city <05892>.

 6  Behold <02005>, I will bring <04608> it health <0724> and

cure <07495>, and I will cure <07495> them, and will reveal

<01540> unto them the abundance <06283> of peace <07965> and

truth <0571>.

7  And I will cause the captivity <07622> of Judah <03063> and

the captivity <07622> of Israel <03478> to return <07725>, and

will build <01129> them, as at the first <07223>.

8  And I will cleanse <02891> them from all <03605> their

iniquity <05771>, whereby <0834> they have sinned <02398>

against me; and I will pardon <05545> all <03605> their

iniquities <05771>, whereby <0834> they have sinned <02398>, and

whereby <0834> they have transgressed <06586> against me.

9  And it shall be to me a name <08034> of joy <08342>, a

praise <08416> and an honour <08597> before all <03605> the

nations <01471> of the earth <0776>, which <0834> shall hear

<08085> all <03605> the good <02896> that I do <06213> unto them:

and they shall fear <06342> and tremble <07264> for all <03605>

the goodness <02896> and for all <03605> the prosperity <07965>

that I procure <06213> unto it.

 10. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Again <05750>

there shall be heard <08085> in this <02088> place <04725>,

which <0834> ye say <0559> [shall be] desolate <02717> without

<0369> man <0120> and without <0369> beast <0929>, [even] in the

cities <05892> of Judah <03063>, and in the streets <02351> of

Jerusalem <03389>, that are desolate <08074>, without <0369> man

<0120>, and without <0369> inhabitant <03427>, and without

<0369> beast <0929>,

11  The voice <06963> of joy <08342>, and the voice <06963> of

gladness <08057>, the voice <06963> of the bridegroom <02860>,

and the voice <06963> of the bride <03618>, the voice <06963> of

them that shall say <0559>, Praise <03034> the LORD <03068> of

hosts <06635>: for the LORD <03068> [is] good <02896>; for his

mercy <02617> [endureth] for ever <05769>: [and] of them that

shall bring <0935> the sacrifice of praise <08426> into the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>. For I will cause to return

<07725> the captivity <07622> of the land <0776>, as at the

first <07223>, saith <0559> the LORD <03068>.

 12  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>;

Again <05750> in this <02088> place <04725>, which is desolate

<02717> without man <0120> and without beast <0929>, and in all

<03605> the cities <05892> thereof, shall be an habitation

<05116> of shepherds <07462> causing [their] flocks <06629> to

lie <07257> down <07901>.

13  In the cities <05892> of the mountains <02022>, in the

cities <05892> of the vale <08219>, and in the cities <05892> of

the south <05045>, and in the land <0776> of Benjamin <01144>,

and in the places about <05439> Jerusalem <03389>, and in the

cities <05892> of Judah <03063>, shall the flocks <06629> pass

<05674> again <05750> under <05921> the hands <03027> of him

that telleth <04487> [them], saith <0559> the LORD <03068>.

 14  Behold <02009>, the days <03117> come <0935>, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>, that I will perform <06965> that good <02896>

thing <01697> which <0834> I have promised <01696> unto the

house <01004> of Israel <03478> and to the house <01004> of

Judah <03063>.

15  In those <01992> days <03117>, and at that time <06256>,

will I cause the Branch <06780> of righteousness <06666> to grow

<06779> up unto David <01732>; and he shall execute <06213>

judgment <04941> and righteousness <06666> in the land <0776>.

16  In those <01992> days <03117> shall Judah <03063> be saved

<03467>, and Jerusalem <03389> shall dwell <07931> safely <0983>:

and this <02088> [is the name] wherewith <0834> she shall be

called <07121>, The LORD <03068> our righteousness <06664>.

 17. For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; David

<01732> shall never <03808> want <03772> a man <0376> to sit

<03427> upon the throne <03678> of the house <01004> of Israel

<03478>;

18  Neither <03808> shall the priests <03548> the Levites

<03881> want <03772> a man <0376> before <06440> me to offer

<05927> burnt <05930> offerings, and to kindle <06999> meat

offerings <04503>, and to do <06213> sacrifice <02077>

continually.

19  And the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> unto

Jeremiah <03414>, saying <0559>,

 20  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; If <0518> ye

can break <06565> my covenant <01285> of the day <03117>, and my

covenant <01285> of the night <03915>, and that there should not

be day <03119> and night <03915> in their season <06256>;

21  [Then] may also <01571> my covenant <01285> be broken

<06565> with David <01732> my servant <05650>, that he should

not have <01961> a son <01121> to reign <04427> upon his throne

<03678>; and with the Levites <03881> the priests <03548>, my

ministers <08334>.

22  As the host <06635> of heaven <08064> cannot <03808> be

numbered <05608>, neither <03808> the sand <02344> of the sea

<03220> measured <04058>: so <03651> will I multiply <07235> the

seed <02233> of David <01732> my servant <05650>, and the

Levites <03881> that minister <08334> unto me.

23  Moreover the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961>

to Jeremiah <03414>, saying <0559>,

 24  Considerest <07200> thou not what <04100> this <02088>

people <05971> have spoken <01696>, saying <0559>, The two

<08147> families <04940> which <0834> the LORD <03068> hath

chosen <0977>, he hath even cast <03988> them off? thus they

have despised <05006> my people <05971>, that they should be no

more <05750> a nation <01471> before <06440> them.

 25  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; If <0518> my

covenant <01285> [be] not with day <03119> and night <03915>,

[and if] I have not appointed <07760> the ordinances <02708> of

heaven <08064> and earth <0776>;

 26  Then <01571> will I cast <03988> away the seed <02233> of

Jacob <03290>, and David <01732> my servant <05650>, [so] that I

will not take <03947> [any] of his seed <02233> [to be] rulers

<04910> over <0413> the seed <02233> of Abraham <085>, Isaac

<03446>, and Jacob <03290>: for I will cause their captivity

<07622> to return <07725>, and have mercy <07355> on them.

Jeremiah  34

 1. The word <01697> which <0834> came <01961> unto Jeremiah

<03414> from the LORD <03068>, when Nebuchadnezzar <05019> king

<04428> of Babylon <0894>, and all <03605> his army <02428>, and

all <03605> the kingdoms <04467> of the earth <0776> of his

dominion <04475>, and all <03605> the people <05971>, fought

<03898> against <05921> Jerusalem <03389>, and against <05921>

all <03605> the cities <05892> thereof, saying <0559>,

 2  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, the God <0430>

of Israel <03478>; Go <01980> and speak <0559> to Zedekiah

<06667> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, and tell <0559> him, Thus

<03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Behold <02005>, I will

give <05414> this <02063> city <05892> into the hand <03027> of

the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>, and he shall burn <08313> it

with fire <0784>:

3  And thou shalt not escape <04422> out of his hand <03027>,

but shalt surely <03588> be taken <08610>, and delivered <05414>

into his hand <03027>; and thine eyes <05869> shall behold

<07200> the eyes <05869> of the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>,

and he shall speak <01696> with thee mouth <06310> to mouth

<06310>, and thou shalt go <0935> to Babylon <0894>.

 4  Yet <0389> hear <08085> the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>,

 O Zedekiah <06667> king <04428> of Judah <03063>; Thus <03541>

saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of thee, Thou shalt not die

<04191> by the sword <02719>:

5  [But] thou shalt die <04191> in peace <07965>: and with the

burnings <04955> of thy fathers <01>, the former <07223> kings

<04428> which <0834> were before <06440> thee, so <03651> shall

they burn <08313> [odours] for thee; and they will lament

<05594> thee, [saying], Ah <01945> lord <0113>! for I have

pronounced <01696> the word <01697>, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>.

6  Then Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030> spake <01696> all

<03605> these <0428> words <01697> unto Zedekiah <06667> king

<04428> of Judah <03063> in Jerusalem <03389>,

 7  When the king <04428> of Babylon's <0894> army <02428>

fought <03898> against <05921> Jerusalem <03389>, and against

<05921> all <03605> the cities <05892> of Judah <03063> that

were left <03498>, against <0413> Lachish <03923>, and against

<0413> Azekah <05825>: for these <02007> defenced <04013> cities

<05892> remained <07604> of the cities <05892> of Judah <03063>.

 8. [This is] the word <01697> that came <01961> unto Jeremiah

<03414> from the LORD <03068>, after <0310> that the king

<04428> Zedekiah <06667> had made <03772> a covenant <01285>

with all <03605> the people <05971> which <0834> [were] at

Jerusalem <03389>, to proclaim <07121> liberty <01865> unto them;

9  That every man <0376> should let his manservant <05650>, and

every man <0376> his maidservant <08198>, [being] an Hebrew

<05680> or an Hebrewess <05680>, go <07971> free <02670>; that

none <01115> should serve <05647> himself of them, [to wit], of

a Jew <03064> his brother <0251>.

10  Now when all <03605> the princes <08269>, and all <03605>

the people <05971>, which <0834> had entered <0935> into the

covenant <01285>, heard <08085> that every <0376> one <0376>

should let his manservant <05650>, and every <0376> one <0376>

his maidservant <08198>, go <07971> free <02670>, that none

<01115> should serve <05647> themselves of them any more <05750>,

then they obeyed <08085>, and let [them] go <07971>.

11  But afterward they turned <07725>, and caused the servants

<05650> and the handmaids <08198>, whom <0834> they had let go

<07971> free <02670>, to return <07725>, and brought <03533>

them into subjection <03533> for servants <05650> and for

handmaids <08198>.

12  Therefore the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961>

to Jeremiah <03414> from the LORD <03068>, saying <0559>,

 13  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, the God <0430>

of Israel <03478>; I made <03772> a covenant <01285> with your

fathers <01> in the day <03117> that I brought <03318> them

forth <03318> out of the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>, out of

the house <01004> of bondmen <05650>, saying <0559>,

14  At the end <07093> of seven <07651> years <08141> let ye go

<07971> every man <0376> his brother <0251> an Hebrew <05680>,

which <0834> hath been <01961> sold <04376> unto thee; and when

he hath served <05647> thee six <08337> years <08141>, thou

shalt let him go <07971> free <02670> from thee: but your

fathers <01> hearkened <08085> not unto me, neither <03808>

inclined <05186> their ear <0241>.

15  And ye were now <03117> turned <07725>, and had done

<06213> right <03477> in my sight <05869>, in proclaiming

<07121> liberty <01865> every man <0376> to his neighbour

<07453>; and ye had made <03772> a covenant <01285> before

<06440> me in the house <01004> which <0834> is called <07121>

by my name <08034>:

16  But ye turned <07725> and polluted <02490> my name <08034>,

and caused every man <0376> his servant <05650>, and every man

<0376> his handmaid <08198>, whom <0834> ye had set <07971> at

liberty <02670> at their pleasure <05315>, to return <07725>,

and brought <03533> them into subjection <03533>, to be unto you

for servants <05650> and for handmaids <08198>.

 17  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>; Ye have not hearkened <08085> unto me, in proclaiming

<07121> liberty <01865>, every one <0376> to his brother <0251>,

and every man <0376> to his neighbour <07453>: behold <02005>, I

proclaim <07121> a liberty <01865> for you, saith <05002> the

LORD <03068>, to the sword <02719>, to the pestilence <01698>,

and to the famine <07458>; and I will make <05414> you to be

removed <02189> into all <03605> the kingdoms <04467> of the

earth <0776>.

18  And I will give <05414> the men <0582> that have

transgressed <05674> my covenant <01285>, which <0834> have not

performed <06965> the words <01697> of the covenant <01285>

which <0834> they had made <03772> before <06440> me, when they

cut <03772> the calf <05695> in twain <08147>, and passed

<05674> between <0996> the parts <01335> thereof,

19  The princes <08269> of Judah <03063>, and the princes

<08269> of Jerusalem <03389>, the eunuchs <05631>, and the

priests <03548>, and all <03605> the people <05971> of the land

<0776>, which passed <05674> between <0996> the parts <01335> of

the calf <05695>;

20  I will even give <05414> them into the hand <03027> of

their enemies <0341>, and into the hand <03027> of them that

seek <01245> their life <05315>: and their dead <05038> bodies

<05038> shall be for meat <03978> unto the fowls <05775> of the

heaven <08064>, and to the beasts <0929> of the earth <0776>.

21  And Zedekiah <06667> king <04428> of Judah <03063> and his

princes <08269> will I give <05414> into the hand <03027> of

their enemies <0341>, and into the hand <03027> of them that

seek <01245> their life <05315>, and into the hand <03027> of

the king <04428> of Babylon's <0894> army <02428>, which are

gone <05927> up from you.

 22  Behold <02005>, I will command <06680>, saith <05002> the

LORD <03068>, and cause them to return <07725> to this <02063>

city <05892>; and they shall fight <03898> against <05921> it,

and take <03920> it, and burn <08313> it with fire <0784>: and I

will make <05414> the cities <05892> of Judah <03063> a

desolation <08077> without <0369> an inhabitant <03427>.

Jeremiah  35

 1. The word <01697> which <0834> came <01961> unto Jeremiah

<03414> from the LORD <03068> in the days <03117> of Jehoiakim

<03079> the son <01121> of Josiah <02977> king <04428> of Judah

<03063>, saying <0559>,

2  Go <01980> unto the house <01004> of the Rechabites <07397>,

and speak <01696> unto them, and bring <0935> them into the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, into <0413> one <0259> of the

chambers <03957>, and give them wine <03196> to drink <08248>.

 3  Then I took <03947> Jaazaniah <02970> the son <01121> of

Jeremiah <03414>, the son <01121> of Habaziniah <02262>, and his

brethren <0251>, and all <03605> his sons <01121>, and the whole

<03605> house <01004> of the Rechabites <07397>;

4  And I brought <0935> them into the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>, into <0413> the chamber <03957> of the sons <01121> of

Hanan <02605>, the son <01121> of Igdaliah <03012>, a man <0376>

of God <0430>, which <0834> [was] by the chamber <02315> of the

princes <08269>, which <0834> [was] above <04605> the chamber

<03957> of Maaseiah <04641> the son <01121> of Shallum <07967>,

the keeper <08104> of the door <05592>:

 5  And I set <05414> before <06440> the sons <01121> of the

house <01004> of the Rechabites <07397> pots <01375> full

<04392> of wine <03196>, and cups <03563>, and I said <0559>

unto them, Drink <08354> ye wine <03196>.

6  But they said <0559>, We will drink <08354> no <03808> wine

<03196>: for Jonadab <03122> the son <01121> of Rechab <07394>

our father <01> commanded <06680> us, saying <0559>, Ye shall

drink <08354> no <03808> wine <03196>, [neither ye], nor your

sons <01121> for ever <05769>:

7  Neither <03808> shall ye build <01129> house <01004>, nor

<03808> sow <02232> seed <02233>, nor <03808> plant <05193>

vineyard <03754>, nor <03808> have [any]: but all <03605> your

days <03117> ye shall dwell <03427> in tents <0168>; that ye may

live <02421> many <07227> days <03117> in the land <0127> where

ye [be] strangers <01481>.

8  Thus have we obeyed <08085> the voice <06963> of Jonadab

<03082> the son <01121> of Rechab <07394> our father <01> in all

<03605> that he hath charged <06680> us, to drink <08354> no

<01115> wine <03196> all <03605> our days <03117>, we, our wives

<0802>, our sons <01121>, nor our daughters <01121>;

9  Nor <01115> to build <01129> houses <01004> for us to dwell

<03427> in: neither <03808> have <01961> we vineyard <03754>,

nor field <07704>, nor seed <02233>:

10  But we have dwelt <03427> in tents <0168>, and have obeyed

<08085>, and done <06213> according to all <03605> that Jonadab

<03122> our father <01> commanded <06680> us.

11  But it came <01961> to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar <05019>

king <04428> of Babylon <0894> came <05927> up into <0413> the

land <0776>, that we said <0559>, Come <0935>, and let us go

<0935> to Jerusalem <03389> for fear <06440> of the army <02428>

of the Chaldeans <03778>, and for fear <06440> of the army

<02428> of the Syrians <0758>: so we dwell <03427> at Jerusalem

<03389>.

 12. Then came <01961> the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> unto

Jeremiah <03414>, saying <0559>,

 13  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; Go <01980> and tell <0559>

the men <0376> of Judah <03063> and the inhabitants <03427> of

Jerusalem <03389>, Will ye not receive <03947> instruction

<04148> to hearken <08085> to my words <01697>? saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>.

14  The words <01697> of Jonadab <03082> the son <01121> of

Rechab <07394>, that he commanded <06680> his sons <01121> not

to drink <08354> wine <03196>, are performed <06965>; for unto

this <02088> day <03117> they drink <08354> none <03808>, but

obey <08085> their father's <01> commandment <04687>:

notwithstanding I have spoken <01696> unto you, rising <07925>

early <07925> and speaking <01696>; but ye hearkened <08085> not

unto me.

15  I have sent <07971> also unto you all <03605> my servants

<05650> the prophets <05030>, rising <07925> up early <07925>

and sending <07971> [them], saying <0559>, Return <07725> ye now

<04994> every man <0376> from his evil <07451> way <01870>, and

amend <03190> your doings <04611>, and go <03212> not after

<0310> other <0312> gods <0430> to serve <05647> them, and ye

shall dwell <03427> in the land <0127> which <0834> I have given

<05414> to you and to your fathers <01>: but ye have not

inclined <05186> your ear <0241>, nor <03808> hearkened <08085>

unto me.

16  Because <03588> the sons <01121> of Jonadab <03082> the son

<01121> of Rechab <07394> have performed <06965> the commandment

<04687> of their father <01>, which <0834> he commanded <06680>

them; but this <02088> people <05971> hath not hearkened <08085>

unto me:

 17  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> God <0430> of hosts <06635>, the God <0430> of Israel

<03478>; Behold <02005>, I will bring <0935> upon Judah <03063>

and upon all <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem

<03389> all <03605> the evil <07451> that I have pronounced

<01696> against <05921> them: because <03282> I have spoken

<01696> unto them, but they have not heard <08085>; and I have

called <07121> unto them, but they have not answered <06030>.

18  And Jeremiah <03414> said <0559> unto the house <01004> of

the Rechabites <07397>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>;

Because ye have obeyed <08085> the commandment <04687> of

Jonadab <03082> your father <01>, and kept <08104> all <03605>

his precepts <04687>, and done <06213> according unto all

<03605> that he hath commanded <06680> you:

 19  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>;

Jonadab <03122> the son <01121> of Rechab <07394> shall not want

<03772> a man <0376> to stand <05975> before <06440> me for ever.

Jeremiah  36

 1. And it came <01961> to pass in the fourth <07243> year

<08141> of Jehoiakim <03079> the son <01121> of Josiah <02977>

king <04428> of Judah <03063>, [that] this <02088> word <01697>

came <01961> unto Jeremiah <03414> from the LORD <03068>, saying

<0559>,

 2  Take <03947> thee a roll <04039> of a book <05612>, and

write <03789> therein <0413> all <03605> the words <01697> that

I have spoken <01696> unto thee against <05921> Israel <03478>,

and against <05921> Judah <03063>, and against <05921> all

<03605> the nations <01471>, from the day <03117> I spake

<01696> unto thee, from the days <03117> of Josiah <02977>, even

unto this <02088> day <03117>.

3  It may be that the house <01004> of Judah <03063> will hear

<08085> all <03605> the evil <07451> which <0834> I purpose

<02803> to do <06213> unto them; that they may return <07725>

every man <0376> from his evil <07451> way <01870>; that I may

forgive <05545> their iniquity <05771> and their sin <02403>.

4  Then Jeremiah <03414> called <07121> Baruch <01263> the son

<01121> of Neriah <05374>: and Baruch <01263> wrote <03789> from

the mouth <06310> of Jeremiah <03414> all <03605> the words

<01697> of the LORD <03068>, which <0834> he had spoken <01696>

unto him, upon a roll <04039> of a book <05612>.

 5  And Jeremiah <03414> commanded <06680> Baruch <01263>,

saying <0559>, I [am] shut <06113> up; I cannot go <0935> into

the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>:

6  Therefore go <0935> thou, and read <07121> in the roll

<04039>, which <0834> thou hast written <03789> from my mouth

<06310>, the words <01697> of the LORD <03068> in the ears

<0241> of the people <05971> in the LORD'S <03068> house <01004>

upon the fasting <06685> day <03117>: and also <01571> thou

shalt read <07121> them in the ears <0241> of all <03605> Judah

<03063> that come <0935> out of their cities <05892>.

7  It may be they will present <05307> their supplication

<08467> before <06440> the LORD <03068>, and will return <07725>

every <0376> one from his evil <07451> way <01870>: for great

<01419> [is] the anger <0639> and the fury <02534> that the LORD

<03068> hath pronounced <01696> against <0413> this <02088>

people <05971>.

8  And Baruch <01263> the son <01121> of Neriah <05374> did

<06213> according to all <03605> that Jeremiah <03414> the

prophet <05030> commanded <06680> him, reading <07121> in the

book <05612> the words <01697> of the LORD <03068> in the LORD'S

<03068> house <01004>.

 9. And it came <01961> to pass in the fifth <02549> year

<08141> of Jehoiakim <03079> the son <01121> of Josiah <02977>

king <04428> of Judah <03063>, in the ninth <08671> month

<02320>, [that] they proclaimed <07121> a fast <06685> before

<06440> the LORD <03068> to all <03605> the people <05971> in

Jerusalem <03389>, and to all <03605> the people <05971> that

came <0935> from the cities <05892> of Judah <03063> unto

Jerusalem <03389>.

10  Then read <07121> Baruch <01263> in the book <05612> the

words <01697> of Jeremiah <03414> in the house <01004> of the

LORD <03068>, in the chamber <03957> of Gemariah <01587> the son

<01121> of Shaphan <08227> the scribe <05608>, in the higher

<05945> court <02691>, at the entry <06607> of the new <02319>

gate <08179> of the LORD'S <03068> house <01004>, in the ears

<0241> of all <03605> the people <05971>.

11  When Michaiah <04321> the son <01121> of Gemariah <01587>,

the son <01121> of Shaphan <08227>, had heard <08085> out of the

book <05612> all <03605> the words <01697> of the LORD <03068>,

 12  Then he went <03381> down <03381> into the king's <04428>

house <01004>, into <05921> the scribe's <05608> chamber <03957>:

and, lo <02009>, all <03605> the princes <08269> sat <03427>

there <08033>, [even] Elishama <0476> the scribe <05608>, and

Delaiah <01806> the son <01121> of Shemaiah <08098>, and

Elnathan <0494> the son <01121> of Achbor <05907>, and Gemariah

<01587> the son <01121> of Shaphan <08227>, and Zedekiah <06667>

the son <01121> of Hananiah <02608>, and all <03605> the princes

<08269>.

13  Then Michaiah <04321> declared <05046> unto them all

<03605> the words <01697> that he had heard <08085>, when Baruch

<01263> read <07121> the book <05612> in the ears <0241> of the

people <05971>.

 14  Therefore all <03605> the princes <08269> sent <07971>

Jehudi <03065> the son <01121> of Nethaniah <05418>, the son

<01121> of Shelemiah <08018>, the son <01121> of Cushi <03569>,

unto Baruch <01263>, saying <0559>, Take <03947> in thine hand

<03027> the roll <04039> wherein <0834> thou hast read <07121>

in the ears <0241> of the people <05971>, and come <03212>. So

Baruch <01263> the son <01121> of Neriah <05374> took <03947>

the roll <04039> in his hand <03027>, and came <0935> unto them.

15  And they said <0559> unto him, Sit <03427> down now <04994>,

and read <07121> it in our ears <0241>. So Baruch <01263> read

<07121> [it] in their ears <0241>.

16  Now it came <01961> to pass, when they had heard <08085>

all <03605> the words <01697>, they were afraid <06342> both

<0413> one <0376> and other <07453>, and said <0559> unto Baruch

<01263>, We will surely tell <05046> the king <04428> of all

<03605> these <0428> words <01697>.

17  And they asked <07592> Baruch <01263>, saying <0559>, Tell

<05046> us now <04994>, How <0349> didst thou write <03789> all

<03605> these <0428> words <01697> at his mouth <06310>?

18  Then Baruch <01263> answered <0559> them, He pronounced

<07126> all <03605> these <0428> words <01697> unto me with his

mouth <06310>, and I wrote <03789> [them] with ink <01773> in

the book <05612>.

19  Then said <0559> the princes <08269> unto Baruch <01263>,

Go <03212>, hide <05641> thee, thou and Jeremiah <03414>; and

let no <0408> man <0376> know <03045> where <0375> ye be.

 20. And they went <0935> in to the king <04428> into the court

<02691>, but they laid <06485> up the roll <04039> in the

chamber <03957> of Elishama <0476> the scribe <05608>, and told

<05046> all <03605> the words <01697> in the ears <0241> of the

king <04428>.

21  So the king <04428> sent <07971> Jehudi <03065> to fetch

<03947> the roll <04039>: and he took <03947> it out of Elishama

<0476> the scribe's <05608> chamber <03957>. And Jehudi <03065>

read <07121> it in the ears <0241> of the king <04428>, and in

the ears <0241> of all <03605> the princes <08269> which stood

<05975> beside <05921> the king <04428>.

22  Now the king <04428> sat <03427> in the winterhouse <02779>

in the ninth <08671> month <02320>: and [there was a fire] on

the hearth <0254> burning <01197> before <06440> him.

23  And it came <01961> to pass, [that] when Jehudi <03065> had

read <07121> three <07969> or four <0702> leaves <01817>, he cut

<07167> it with the penknife <08593>, and cast <07933> [it] into

<0413> the fire <0784> that [was] on <0413> the hearth <0254>,

until <05704> all <03605> the roll <04039> was consumed <08552>

in the fire <0784> that [was] on <05921> the hearth <0254>.

24  Yet they were not afraid <06342>, nor <03808> rent <07167>

their garments <0899>, [neither] the king <04428>, nor any

<03605> of his servants <05650> that heard <08085> all <03605>

these <0428> words <01697>.

 25  Nevertheless <01571> Elnathan <0494> and Delaiah <01806>

and Gemariah <01587> had made intercession <06293> to the king

<04428> that he would not burn <08313> the roll <04039>: but he

would not hear <08085> them.

 26  But the king <04428> commanded <06680> Jerahmeel <03396>

the son <01121> of Hammelech <04429>, and Seraiah <08304> the

son <01121> of Azriel <05837>, and Shelemiah <08018> the son

<01121> of Abdeel <05655>, to take <03947> Baruch <01263> the

scribe <05608> and Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030>: but the

LORD <03068> hid <05641> them.

27  Then the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> to

Jeremiah <03414>, after <0310> that the king <04428> had burned

<08313> the roll <04039>, and the words <01697> which <0834>

Baruch <01263> wrote <03789> at the mouth <06310> of Jeremiah

<03414>, saying <0559>,

 28  Take <03947> thee again <07725> another <0312> roll <04039>,

and write <03789> in it all <03605> the former <07223> words

<01697> that were in the first <07223> roll <04039>, which

<0834> Jehoiakim <03079> the king <04428> of Judah <03063> hath

burned <08313>.

29  And thou shalt say <0559> to Jehoiakim <03079> king <04428>

of Judah <03063>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>;

Thou hast burned <08313> this <02063> roll <04039>, saying

<0559>, Why <04069> hast thou written <03789> therein <05921>,

saying <0559>, The king <04428> of Babylon <0894> shall

certainly come <0935> and destroy <07843> this <02063> land

<0776>, and shall cause to cease <07673> from thence man <0120>

and beast <0929>?

 30  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of Jehoiakim <03079> king <04428> of Judah <03063>; He

shall have <01961> none <03808> to sit <03427> upon the throne

<03678> of David <01732>: and his dead <05038> body <05038>

shall be cast <07933> out in the day <03117> to the heat <02721>,

and in the night <03915> to the frost <07140>.

31  And I will punish <06485> him and his seed <02233> and his

servants <05650> for their iniquity <05771>; and I will bring

<0935> upon them, and upon the inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem

<03389>, and upon the men <0376> of Judah <03063>, all <03605>

the evil <07451> that I have pronounced <01691> against <0413>

them; but they hearkened <08085> not.

 32  Then took <03947> Jeremiah <03414> another <0312> roll

<04039>, and gave <05414> it to Baruch <01263> the scribe

<05608>, the son <01121> of Neriah <05374>; who wrote <03789>

therein <05921> from the mouth <06310> of Jeremiah <03414> all

<03605> the words <01697> of the book <05612> which <0834>

Jehoiakim <03079> king <04428> of Judah <03063> had burned

<08313> in the fire <0784>: and there were added <03254> besides

<05750> unto them many <07227> like <01922> words <01697>.

Jeremiah  37

 1. And king <04428> Zedekiah <06667> the son <01121> of Josiah

<02977> reigned <04427> instead <08478> of Coniah <03659> the

son <01121> of Jehoiakim <03079>, whom <0834> Nebuchadrezzar

<05019> king <04428> of Babylon <0894> made king <04428> in the

land <0776> of Judah <03063>.

2  But neither <03808> he, nor his servants <05650>, nor the

people <05971> of the land <0776>, did hearken <08085> unto the

words <01697> of the LORD <03068>, which <0834> he spake <01696>

by the prophet <05030> Jeremiah <03414>.

3  And Zedekiah <06667> the king <04428> sent <07971> Jehucal

<03081> the son <01121> of Shelemiah <08018> and Zephaniah

<06846> the son <01121> of Maaseiah <04641> the priest <03548>

to the prophet <05030> Jeremiah <03414>, saying <0559>, Pray

<06419> now <04994> unto the LORD <03068> our God <0430> for us.

4  Now Jeremiah <03414> came <0935> in and went <03318> out

among <08432> the people <05971>: for they had not put <05414>

him into prison.

 5  Then Pharaoh's <06547> army <02428> was come <03318> forth

<03318> out of Egypt <04714>: and when the Chaldeans <03778>

that besieged <06696> Jerusalem <03389> heard <08085> tidings

<08088> of them, they departed <05927> from Jerusalem <03389>.

6  Then came <01961> the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> unto

the prophet <05030> Jeremiah <03414>, saying <0559>,

 7  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, the God <0430>

of Israel <03478>; Thus <03541> shall ye say <0559> to the king

<04428> of Judah <03063>, that sent <07971> you unto me to

enquire <01875> of me; Behold <02005>, Pharaoh's <06547> army

<02428>, which is come <03318> forth <03318> to help <05833> you,

shall return <07725> to Egypt <04714> into their own land

<0776>.

8  And the Chaldeans <03778> shall come <07725> again <07725>,

and fight <03898> against <05921> this <02063> city <05892>, and

take <03920> it, and burn <08313> it with fire <0784>.

 9  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Deceive <05377>

not yourselves <05315>, saying <0559>, The Chaldeans <03778>

shall surely depart <01980> from us: for they shall not depart

<01980>.

10  For though <0518> ye had smitten <05221> the whole <03605>

army <02428> of the Chaldeans <03778> that fight <03898> against

you, and there remained <07604> [but] wounded <01856> men <0582>

among them, [yet] should they rise <06965> up every man <0376>

in his tent <0168>, and burn <08313> this <02063> city <05892>

with fire <0784>.

 11. And it came <01961> to pass, that when the army <02428> of

the Chaldeans <03778> was broken <05927> up from Jerusalem

<03389> for fear <06440> of Pharaoh's <06547> army <02428>,

12  Then Jeremiah <03414> went <03318> forth <03318> out of

Jerusalem <03389> to go <03212> into the land <0776> of Benjamin

<01144>, to separate <02505> himself thence <08033> in the midst

<08432> of the people <05971>.

13  And when he was in the gate <08179> of Benjamin <01144>, a

captain <01167> of the ward <06488> [was] there <08033>, whose

name <08034> [was] Irijah <03376>, the son <01121> of Shelemiah

<08018>, the son <01121> of Hananiah <02608>; and he took

<08610> Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030>, saying <0559>,

Thou fallest <05307> away to the Chaldeans <03778>.

 14  Then said <0559> Jeremiah <03414>, [It is] false <08267>; I

fall <05307> not away to the Chaldeans <03778>. But he hearkened

<08085> not to him: so Irijah <03376> took <08610> Jeremiah

<03414>, and brought <0935> him to the princes <08269>.

15  Wherefore the princes <08269> were wroth <07107> with

Jeremiah <03414>, and smote <05221> him, and put <05414> him in

prison <0612> in the house <01004> of Jonathan <03083> the

scribe <05608>: for they had made <06213> that the prison

<03608>.

 16  When <03588> Jeremiah <03414> was entered <0935> into

<0413> the dungeon <0953>, and into <0413> the cabins <02588>,

and Jeremiah <03414> had remained <03427> there <08033> many

<07227> days <03117>;

17  Then Zedekiah <06667> the king <04428> sent <07971>, and

took <03947> him out: and the king <04428> asked <07592> him

secretly <05643> in his house <01004>, and said <0559>, Is there

[any] word <01697> from the LORD <03068>? And Jeremiah <03414>

said <0559>, There is: for, said <0559> he, thou shalt be

delivered <05414> into the hand <03027> of the king <04428> of

Babylon <0894>.

 18  Moreover Jeremiah <03414> said <0559> unto king <04428>

Zedekiah <06667>, What <04100> have I offended <02398> against

thee, or against thy servants <05650>, or against this <02088>

people <05971>, that ye have put <05414> me in prison?

19  Where <0346> [are] now your prophets <05030> which <0834>

prophesied <05012> unto you, saying <0559>, The king <04428> of

Babylon <0894> shall not come <0935> against <05921> you, nor

against <05921> this <02063> land <0776>?

 20  Therefore hear <08085> now <06254>, I pray <04994> thee, O

my lord <0113> the king <04428>: let my supplication <08467>, I

pray <04994> thee, be accepted <05307> before <06440> thee; that

thou cause me not to return <07725> to the house <01004> of

Jonathan <03083> the scribe <05608>, lest <03808> I die <04191>

there <08033>.

 21  Then Zedekiah <06667> the king <04428> commanded <06680>

that they should commit <06458> Jeremiah <03414> into the court

<02691> of the prison <04307>, and that they should give <05414>

him daily <03117> a piece <03603> of bread <03899> out of the

bakers <0644>' street <02351>, until <05704> all <03605> the

bread <03899> in the city <05892> were spent <08552>. Thus

Jeremiah <03414> remained <03427> in the court <02691> of the

prison <04307>.

Jeremiah  38

 1. Then Shephatiah <08203> the son <01121> of Mattan <04977>,

and Gedaliah <01436> the son <01121> of Pashur <06583>, and

Jucal <03116> the son <01121> of Shelemiah <08018>, and Pashur

<06583> the son <01121> of Malchiah <04441>, heard <08085> the

words <01697> that Jeremiah <03414> had spoken <01696> unto all

<03605> the people <05971>, saying <0559>,

2  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, He that

remaineth <03427> in this <02063> city <05892> shall die <04191>

by the sword <02719>, by the famine <07458>, and by the

pestilence <01698>: but he that goeth <03318> forth <03318> to

the Chaldeans <03778> shall live <02421>; for he shall have his

life <05315> for a prey <07998>, and shall live <02425>.

 3  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, This <02063>

city <05892> shall surely be given <05414> into the hand <03027>

of the king <04428> of Babylon's <0894> army <02428>, which

shall take <03920> it.

4  Therefore the princes <08269> said <0559> unto the king

<04428>, We beseech <04994> thee, let this <02088> man <0376> be

put to death <04191>: for thus he weakeneth <07503> the hands

<03027> of the men <0582> of war <04421> that remain <07604> in

this <02063> city <05892>, and the hands <03027> of all <03605>

the people <05971>, in speaking <01696> such <0428> words

<01697> unto them: for this <02088> man <0376> seeketh <01875>

not the welfare <07965> of this <02088> people <05971>, but the

hurt <07451>.

5  Then Zedekiah <06667> the king <04428> said <0559>, Behold

<02009>, he [is] in your hand <03027>: for the king <04428> [is]

not [he that] can <03201> do [any] thing <01697> against you.

6  Then took <03947> they Jeremiah <03414>, and cast <07933>

him into <0413> the dungeon <0953> of Malchiah <04441> the son

<01121> of Hammelech <04429>, that [was] in the court <02691> of

the prison <04307>: and they let <07971> down <07971> Jeremiah

<03414> with cords <02256>. And in the dungeon <0953> [there

was] no <0369> water <04325>, but mire <02916>: so Jeremiah

<03414> sunk <02883> in the mire <02916>.

7  Now when Ebedmelech <05663> the Ethiopian <03569>, one

<0376> of the eunuchs <05631> which <01931> was in the king's

<04428> house <01004>, heard <08085> that they had put <05414>

Jeremiah <03414> in the dungeon <0953>; the king <04428> then

sitting <03427> in the gate <08179> of Benjamin <01144>;

8  Ebedmelech <05663> went <03318> forth <03318> out of the

king's <04428> house <01004>, and spake <01696> to the king

<04428>, saying <0559>,

 9  My lord <0113> the king <04428>, these <0428> men <0582>

have done evil <07489> in all <03605> that they have done

<06213> to Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030>, whom they have

cast <07933> into <0413> the dungeon <0953>; and he is like to

die <04191> for hunger <07457> in the place <08478> where

<08478> he is: for [there is] no <0369> more <05750> bread

<03899> in the city <05892>.

 10  Then the king <04428> commanded <06680> Ebedmelech <05663>

the Ethiopian <03569>, saying <0559>, Take <03947> from hence

<02088> thirty <07970> men <0582> with thee, and take <03947> up

Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030> out of the dungeon <0953>,

before <02962> he die <04191>.

11  So Ebedmelech <05663> took <03947> the men <0582> with him,

and went <0935> into the house <01004> of the king <04428> under

the treasury <0214>, and took <03947> thence <08033> old <01094>

cast <05499> clouts <05499> and old <01094> rotten <04418> rags

<04418>, and let <07971> them down <07971> by cords <02256> into

<0413> the dungeon <0953> to Jeremiah <03414>.

 12  And Ebedmelech <05663> the Ethiopian <03569> said <0559>

unto Jeremiah <03414>, Put <07760> now <04994> [these] old

<01094> cast <05499> clouts <05499> and rotten <04418> rags

<04418> under <08478> thine armholes under <08478> the cords

<02256>. And Jeremiah <03414> did <06213> so <03651>.

13  So they drew <04900> up Jeremiah <03414> with cords <02256>,

and took <05927> him up out of the dungeon <0953>: and Jeremiah

<03414> remained <03427> in the court <02691> of the prison

<04307>.

 14. Then Zedekiah <06667> the king <04428> sent <07971>, and

took <03947> Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030> unto him into

<0413> the third <07992> entry <03996> that [is] in the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>: and the king <04428> said <0559>

unto Jeremiah <03414>, I will ask <07592> thee a thing <01697>;

hide <03582> nothing from me.

15  Then Jeremiah <03414> said <0559> unto Zedekiah <06667>, If

<0518> I declare <05046> [it] unto thee, wilt thou not surely

put me to death <04191>? and if <0518> I give thee counsel

<03289>, wilt thou not hearken <08085> unto me?

16  So Zedekiah <06667> the king <04428> sware <07650> secretly

<05643> unto Jeremiah <03414>, saying <0559>, [As] the LORD

<03068> liveth <02416>, that made <06213> us this <02063> soul

<05315>, I will not put thee to death <04191>, neither <0518>

will I give <05414> thee into the hand <03027> of these <0428>

men <0582> that seek <01245> thy life <05315>.

 17  Then said <0559> Jeremiah <03414> unto Zedekiah <06667>,

Thus saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, the God <0430> of hosts

<06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; If <0518> thou wilt

assuredly <03318> go <03318> forth <03318> unto the king <04428>

of Babylon's <0894> princes <08269>, then thy soul <05315> shall

live <02421>, and this <02063> city <05892> shall not be burned

<08313> with fire <0784>; and thou shalt live <02421>, and thine

house <01004>:

18  But if <0518> thou wilt not go <03318> forth <03318> to the

king <04428> of Babylon's <0894> princes <08269>, then shall

this <02063> city <05892> be given <05414> into the hand <03027>

of the Chaldeans <03778>, and they shall burn <08313> it with

fire <0784>, and thou shalt not escape <04422> out of their hand

<03027>.

19  And Zedekiah <06667> the king <04428> said <0559> unto

Jeremiah <03414>, I am afraid <01672> of the Jews <03064> that

are fallen <05307> to the Chaldeans <03778>, lest <06435> they

deliver <05414> me into their hand <03027>, and they mock

<05953> me.

20  But Jeremiah <03414> said <0559>, They shall not deliver

<05414> [thee]. Obey <08085>, I beseech <04994> thee, the voice

<06963> of the LORD <03068>, which <0834> I speak <01696> unto

thee: so it shall be well <03190> unto thee, and thy soul

<05315> shall live <02421>.

21  But if thou refuse <03986> to go <03318> forth <03318>,

this <02088> [is] the word <01697> that the LORD <03068> hath

shewed <07200> me:

22  And, behold <02009>, all <03605> the women <0802> that are

left <07604> in the king <04428> of Judah's <03063> house

<01004> [shall be] brought <03318> forth <04163> to the king

<04428> of Babylon's <0894> princes <08269>, and those <02007>

[women] shall say <0559>, Thy friends have set <05496> thee on,

and have prevailed <03201> against thee: thy feet <07272> are

sunk <02883> in the mire <01206>, [and] they are turned <05472>

away back <0268>.

23  So they shall bring <04672> out all <03605> thy wives

<0802> and thy children <01121> to the Chaldeans <03778>: and

thou shalt not escape <04422> out of their hand <03027>, but

shalt be taken <08610> by the hand <03027> of the king <04428>

of Babylon <0894>: and thou shalt cause this <02063> city

<05892> to be burned <08313> with fire <0784>.

 24  Then said <0559> Zedekiah <06667> unto Jeremiah <03414>,

Let no <0408> man <0376> know <03045> of these <0428> words

<01697>, and thou shalt not die <04191>.

 25  But if <03588> the princes <08269> hear <08085> that I have

talked <01696> with thee, and they come <0935> unto thee, and

say <0559> unto thee, Declare <05046> unto us now <04994> what

<04100> thou hast said <01696> unto the king <04428>, hide

<03582> it not from us, and we will not put thee to death

<04191>; also what <04100> the king <04428> said <01696> unto

thee:

26  Then thou shalt say <0559> unto them, I presented <05307>

my supplication <08467> before <06440> the king <04428>, that he

would not cause me to return <07725> to Jonathan's <03129> house

<01004>, to die <04191> there <08033>.

27  Then came <0935> all <03605> the princes <08269> unto

Jeremiah <03414>, and asked <07592> him: and he told <05046>

them according to all <03605> these <0428> words <01697> that

the king <04428> had commanded <06680>. So they left <02790> off

speaking <02790> with him; for the matter <01697> was not

perceived <08085>.

28  So Jeremiah <03414> abode <03427> in the court <02691> of

the prison <04307> until <05704> the day <03117> that Jerusalem

<03389> was taken <03920>: and he was [there] when <0834>

Jerusalem <03389> was taken <03920>.

Jeremiah  39

 1. In the ninth <08671> year <08141> of Zedekiah <06667> king

<04428> of Judah <03063>, in the tenth <06224> month <02320>,

came <0935> Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king <04428> of Babylon

<0894> and all <03605> his army <02428> against <0413> Jerusalem

<03389>, and they besieged <06696> it.

2  [And] in the eleventh year <08141> of Zedekiah <06667>, in

the fourth <07243> month <02320>, the ninth <08672> [day

<03117>] of the month <02320>, the city <05892> was broken

<01234> up.

3  And all <03605> the princes <08269> of the king <04428> of

Babylon <0894> came <0935> in, and sat <03427> in the middle

<08484> gate <08179>, [even] Nergalsharezer <05371>, Samgarnebo

<05562>, Sarsechim <08310>, Rabsaris <07249>, Nergalsharezer

<05371>, Rabmag <07248>, with all <03605> the residue <07611> of

the princes <08269> of the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>.

4  And it came <01961> to pass, [that] when <0834> Zedekiah

<06667> the king <04428> of Judah <03063> saw <07200> them, and

all <03605> the men <0582> of war <04421>, then they fled

<01272>, and went <03318> forth <03318> out of the city <05892>

by night <03915>, by the way <01870> of the king's <04428>

garden <01588>, by the gate <08179> betwixt <0996> the two

<08147> walls <02346>: and he went <03318> out the way <01870>

of the plain <06160>.

 5  But the Chaldeans <03778>' army <02428> pursued <07291>

after <0310> them, and overtook <05381> Zedekiah <06667> in the

plains <06160> of Jericho <03405>: and when they had taken

<03947> him, they brought <05927> him up to Nebuchadnezzar

<05019> king <04428> of Babylon <0894> to Riblah <07247> in the

land <0776> of Hamath <02574>, where he gave <01696> judgment

<04941> upon him.

6  Then the king <04428> of Babylon <0894> slew <07819> the

sons <01121> of Zedekiah <06667> in Riblah <07247> before his

eyes <05869>: also the king <04428> of Babylon <0894> slew

<07819> all <03605> the nobles <02715> of Judah <03063>.

7  Moreover he put <05786> out Zedekiah's eyes <05869>, and

bound <0631> him with chains <05178>, to carry <0935> him to

Babylon <0894>.

 8  And the Chaldeans <03778> burned <08313> the king's <04428>

house <01004>, and the houses <01004> of the people <05971>,

with fire <0784>, and brake <05422> down <05422> the walls

<02346> of Jerusalem <03389>.

9  Then Nebuzaradan <05018> the captain <07227> of the guard

<02876> carried <01540> away captive <01540> into Babylon <0894>

the remnant <03499> of the people <05971> that remained <07604>

in the city <05892>, and those that fell <05307> away, that fell

<05307> to him, with the rest <03499> of the people <05971> that

remained <07604>.

10  But Nebuzaradan <05018> the captain of the guard <02876>

left <07604> of the poor <01800> of the people <05971>, which

<0834> had nothing, in the land <0776> of Judah <03063>, and

gave <05414> them vineyards <03754> and fields <03010> at the

same <01931> time <03117>.

 11. Now Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king <04428> of Babylon <0894>

gave charge <06680> concerning <05921> Jeremiah <03414> to

Nebuzaradan <05018> the captain <07227> of the guard <02876>,

saying <0559>,

12  Take <03947> him, and look <07760> well to him, and do

<06213> him no <0408> harm <07451>; but do <06213> unto him even

<03651> as he shall say <01696> unto thee.

13  So Nebuzaradan <05018> the captain <07227> of the guard

<02876> sent <07971>, and Nebushasban <05021>, Rabsaris <07249>,

and Nergalsharezer <05371>, Rabmag <07248>, and all <03605> the

king <04428> of Babylon's <0894> princes <07227>;

14  Even they sent <07971>, and took <03947> Jeremiah <03414>

out of the court <02691> of the prison <04307>, and committed

<05414> him unto Gedaliah <01436> the son <01121> of Ahikam

<0296> the son <01121> of Shaphan <08227>, that he should carry

<03318> him home <01004>: so he dwelt <03427> among <08432> the

people <05971>.

15  Now the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> unto

Jeremiah <03414>, while he was shut <06113> up in the court

<02691> of the prison <04307>, saying <0559>,

16  Go <01980> and speak <0559> to Ebedmelech <05663> the

Ethiopian <03569>, saying <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the

LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>;

Behold <02005>, I will bring <0935> my words <01697> upon this

<02063> city <05892> for evil <07451>, and not for good <02896>;

and they shall be [accomplished] in that day <03117> before

<06440> thee.

17  But I will deliver <05337> thee in that day <03117>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>: and thou shalt not be given <05414>

into the hand <03027> of the men <0582> of whom thou [art]

afraid <03025>.

18  For I will surely deliver <04422> thee, and thou shalt not

fall <05307> by the sword <02719>, but thy life <05315> shall be

for a prey <07998> unto thee: because <03588> thou hast put thy

trust <0982> in me, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

Jeremiah  40

 1. The word <01697> that came <01961> to Jeremiah <03414> from

the LORD <03068>, after <0310> that Nebuzaradan <05018> the

captain <07227> of the guard <02876> had let him go <07971> from

Ramah <07414>, when he had taken <03947> him being bound <0631>

in chains <0246> among <08432> all <03605> that were carried

<01546> away captive <01546> of Jerusalem <03389> and Judah

<03063>, which were carried <01540> away captive <01540> unto

Babylon <0894>.

2  And the captain <07227> of the guard <02876> took <03947>

Jeremiah <03414>, and said <0559> unto him, The LORD <03068> thy

God <0430> hath pronounced <01691> this <02063> evil <07451>

upon this <02088> place <04725>.

3  Now the LORD <03068> hath brought <0935> [it], and done

<06213> according as he hath said <01696>: because <03588> ye

have sinned <02398> against the LORD <03068>, and have not

obeyed <08085> his voice <06963>, therefore this <02088> thing

<01697> is come <01961> upon you.

 4  And now <06258>, behold <02009>, I loose <06605> thee this

day <03117> from the chains <0246> which <0834> [were] upon

thine hand <03027>. If <0518> it seem <05869> good <02896> unto

thee to come <0935> with me into Babylon <0894>, come <0935>;

and I will look <07760> well unto thee: but if <0518> it seem

<05869> ill <07489> unto thee to come <0935> with me into

Babylon <0894>, forbear <02308>: behold <07200>, all <03605> the

land <0776> [is] before <06440> thee: whither <0413> it seemeth

<05869> good <02896> and convenient <03477> for thee to go

<03212>, thither <08033> go <03212>.

5  Now while he was not yet <05750> gone <07725> back <07725>,

[he said], Go <07725> back <07725> also to Gedaliah <01436> the

son <01121> of Ahikam <0296> the son <01121> of Shaphan <08227>,

whom <0834> the king <04428> of Babylon <0894> hath made

governor <06485> over the cities <05892> of Judah <03063>, and

dwell <03427> with him among <08432> the people <05971>: or

<0176> go <03212> wheresoever it seemeth <05869> convenient

<03477> unto thee to go <03212>. So the captain <07227> of the

guard <02876> gave <05414> him victuals <0737> and a reward

<04864>, and let him go <07971>.

6  Then went <0935> Jeremiah <03414> unto Gedaliah <01436> the

son <01121> of Ahikam <0296> to Mizpah <04708>; and dwelt

<03427> with him among <08432> the people <05971> that were left

<07604> in the land <0776>.

 7. Now when all <03605> the captains <08269> of the forces

<02428> which <0834> [were] in the fields <07704>, [even] they

and their men <0582>, heard <08085> that the king <04428> of

Babylon <0894> had made Gedaliah <01436> the son <01121> of

Ahikam <0296> governor <06485> in the land <0776>, and had

committed <06485> unto him men <0582>, and women <0802>, and

children <02945>, and of the poor <01803> of the land <0776>, of

them that were not carried <01540> away captive <01540> to

Babylon <0894>;

8  Then they came <0935> to Gedaliah <01436> to Mizpah <04708>,

even Ishmael <03458> the son <01121> of Nethaniah <05418>, and

Johanan <03110> and Jonathan <03129> the sons <01121> of Kareah

<07143>, and Seraiah <08304> the son <01121> of Tanhumeth

<08576>, and the sons <01121> of Ephai <05778> the Netophathite

<05200>, and Jezaniah <03153> the son <01121> of a Maachathite

<04602>, they and their men <0582>.

9  And Gedaliah <01436> the son <01121> of Ahikam <0296> the

son <01121> of Shaphan <08227> sware <07650> unto them and to

their men <0582>, saying <0559>, Fear <03372> not to serve

<05647> the Chaldeans <03778>: dwell <03427> in the land <0776>,

and serve <05647> the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>, and it

shall be well <03190> with you.

10  As for me, behold <02005>, I will dwell <03427> at Mizpah

<04708> to serve <05975> the Chaldeans <03778>, which <0834>

will come <0935> unto us: but ye, gather <0622> ye wine <03196>,

and summer <07019> fruits, and oil <08081>, and put <07760>

[them] in your vessels <03627>, and dwell <03427> in your cities

<05892> that ye have taken <08610>.

11  Likewise <01571> when all <03605> the Jews <03064> that

[were] in Moab <04124>, and among the Ammonites <05984>, and in

Edom <0123>, and that [were] in all <03605> the countries <0776>,

heard <08085> that the king <04428> of Babylon <0894> had left

<05414> a remnant <07611> of Judah <03063>, and that he had set

<06485> over <05921> them Gedaliah <01436> the son <01121> of

Ahikam <0296> the son <01121> of Shaphan <08227>;

12  Even all <03605> the Jews <03064> returned <07725> out of

all <03605> places <04725> whither they were driven <05080>, and

came <0935> to the land <0776> of Judah <03063>, to Gedaliah

<01436>, unto Mizpah <04708>, and gathered <0622> wine <03196>

and summer <07019> fruits very <03966> much <07335>.

13  Moreover Johanan <03110> the son <01121> of Kareah <07143>,

and all <03605> the captains <08269> of the forces <02428> that

[were] in the fields <07704>, came <0935> to Gedaliah <01436> to

Mizpah <04708>,

14  And said <0559> unto him, Dost thou certainly know <03045>

that Baalis <01185> the king <04428> of the Ammonites <05984>

hath sent <07971> Ishmael <03458> the son <01121> of Nethaniah

<05418> to slay thee? But Gedaliah <01436> the son <01121> of

Ahikam <0296> believed <0539> them not.

15  Then Johanan <03110> the son <01121> of Kareah <07143>

spake <0559> to Gedaliah <01436> in Mizpah <04709> secretly

<05643>, saying <0559>, Let me go <03212>, I pray thee, and I

will slay <05221> Ishmael <03458> the son <01121> of Nethaniah

<05418>, and no <03808> man <0376> shall know <03045> [it]:

wherefore <04100> should he slay <05221> thee, that all <03605>

the Jews <03064> which are gathered <06908> unto thee should be

scattered <06327>, and the remnant <07611> in Judah <03063>

perish <06>?

16  But Gedaliah <01436> the son <01121> of Ahikam <0296> said

<0559> unto Johanan <03110> the son <01121> of Kareah <07143>,

Thou shalt not do <06213> this <02088> thing <01697>: for thou

speakest <01696> falsely <08267> of Ishmael <03458>.

Jeremiah  41

 1. Now it came <01961> to pass in the seventh <07637> month

<02320>, [that] Ishmael <03458> the son <01121> of Nethaniah

<05418> the son <01121> of Elishama <0476>, of the seed <02233>

royal <04410>, and the princes <07227> of the king <04428>, even

ten <06235> men <0582> with him, came <0935> unto Gedaliah

<01436> the son <01121> of Ahikam <0296> to Mizpah <04709>; and

there <08033> they did <06213> eat <0398> bread <03899> together

<03162> in Mizpah <04709>.

2  Then arose <06965> Ishmael <03458> the son <01121> of

Nethaniah <05418>, and the ten <06235> men <0582> that were with

him, and smote <05221> Gedaliah <01436> the son <01121> of

Ahikam <0296> the son <01121> of Shaphan <08227> with the sword

<02719>, and slew <04191> him, whom <0834> the king <04428> of

Babylon <0894> had made governor <06485> over the land <0776>.

3  Ishmael <03458> also slew <05221> all <03605> the Jews

<03064> that were with him, [even] with Gedaliah <01436>, at

Mizpah <04709>, and the Chaldeans <03778> that were found

<04672> there <08033>, [and] the men <0582> of war <04421>.

4  And it came <01961> to pass the second <08145> day <03117>

after he had slain <04191> Gedaliah <01436>, and no <03808> man

<0376> knew <03045> [it],

5  That there came <0935> certain <0582> from Shechem <07927>,

from Shiloh <07887>, and from Samaria <08111>, [even] fourscore

<08084> men <0376>, having their beards <02206> shaven <01548>,

and their clothes <0899> rent <07167>, and having cut <01413>

themselves, with offerings <04503> and incense <03828> in their

hand <03027>, to bring <0935> [them] to the house <01004> of the

LORD <03068>.

6  And Ishmael <03458> the son <01121> of Nethaniah <05418>

went <03318> forth <03318> from Mizpah <04709> to meet <07125>

them, weeping <01058> all along <01980> as he went <01980>: and

it came <01961> to pass, as he met <06298> them, he said <0559>

unto them, Come <0935> to Gedaliah <01436> the son <01121> of

Ahikam <0296>.

7  And it was [so], when they came <0935> into <0413> the midst

<08432> of the city <05892>, that Ishmael <03458> the son

<01121> of Nethaniah <05418> slew <07819> them, [and cast them]

into <0413> the midst <08432> of the pit <0953>, he, and the men

<0582> that [were] with him.

8  But ten <06235> men <0582> were found <04672> among them

that said <0559> unto Ishmael <03458>, Slay <04191> us not: for

we have <03426> treasures <04301> in the field <07704>, of wheat

<02406>, and of barley <08184>, and of oil <08081>, and of honey

<01706>. So he forbare <02308>, and slew <04191> them not among

<08432> their brethren <0251>.

9  Now the pit <0953> wherein <0834> Ishmael <03458> had cast

<07993> all <03605> the dead <06297> bodies <06297> of the men

<0582>, whom <0834> he had slain <05221> because <03027> of

Gedaliah <01436>, [was] it which <0834> Asa <0609> the king

<04428> had made <06213> for fear <06440> of Baasha <01201> king

<04428> of Israel <03478>: [and] Ishmael <03458> the son <01121>

of Nethaniah <05418> filled <04390> it with [them that were]

slain <02491>.

 10  Then Ishmael <03458> carried <07617> away captive <07617>

all <03605> the residue <07611> of the people <05971> that

[were] in Mizpah <04709>, [even <0853>] the king's <04428>

daughters <01121>, and all <03605> the people <05971> that

remained <07604> in Mizpah <04709>, whom <0834> Nebuzaradan

<05018> the captain <07227> of the guard <02876> had committed

<06485> to Gedaliah <01436> the son <01121> of Ahikam <0296>:

and Ishmael <03458> the son <01121> of Nethaniah <05418> carried

<07617> them away captive <07617>, and departed <03212> to go

<05674> over <05674> to the Ammonites <05984>.

 11. But when Johanan <03110> the son <01121> of Kareah <07143>,

and all <03605> the captains <08269> of the forces <02428> that

[were] with him, heard <08085> of all <03605> the evil <07451>

that Ishmael <03458> the son <01121> of Nethaniah <05418> had

done <06213>,

12  Then they took <03947> all <03605> the men <0582>, and went

<03212> to fight <03898> with Ishmael <03458> the son <01121> of

Nethaniah <05418>, and found <04672> him by the great <07227>

waters <04325> that [are] in Gibeon <01391>.

13  Now it came <01961> to pass, [that] when all <03605> the

people <05971> which <0834> [were] with Ishmael <03458> saw

<07200> Johanan <03110> the son <01121> of Kareah <07143>, and

all <03605> the captains <08269> of the forces <02428> that

[were] with him, then they were glad <08056>.

14  So all <03605> the people <05971> that Ishmael <03458> had

carried <07617> away captive <07617> from Mizpah <04709> cast

<05437> about <05437> and returned <07725>, and went <03212>

unto Johanan <03110> the son <01121> of Kareah <07143>.

15  But Ishmael <03458> the son <01121> of Nethaniah <05418>

escaped <04422> from Johanan <03110> with eight <08083> men

<0582>, and went <03212> to the Ammonites <05984>.

16  Then took <03947> Johanan <03110> the son <01121> of Kareah

<07143>, and all <03605> the captains <08269> of the forces

<02428> that [were] with him, all <03605> the remnant <07611> of

the people <05971> whom <0834> he had recovered <07725> from

Ishmael <03458> the son <01121> of Nethaniah <05418>, from

Mizpah <04709>, after <0310> [that] he had slain <05221>

Gedaliah <01436> the son <01121> of Ahikam <0296>, [even] mighty

<01397> men <0582> of war <04421>, and the women <0802>, and the

children <02945>, and the eunuchs <05631>, whom <0834> he had

brought <07725> again <07725> from Gibeon <01391>:

17  And they departed <03212>, and dwelt <03427> in the

habitation <01628> of Chimham <03643>, which <0834> is by

Bethlehem <01035>, to go <03212> to enter <0935> into Egypt

<04714>,

18  Because <06440> of the Chaldeans <03778>: for they were

afraid <03372> of them, because <03588> Ishmael <03458> the son

<01121> of Nethaniah <05418> had slain <05221> Gedaliah <01436>

the son <01121> of Ahikam <0296>, whom <0834> the king <04428>

of Babylon <0894> made governor <06485> in the land <0776>.

Jeremiah  42

 1. Then all <03605> the captains <08269> of the forces <02428>,

and Johanan <03110> the son <01121> of Kareah <07143>, and

Jezaniah <03153> the son <01121> of Hoshaiah <01955>, and all

<03605> the people <05971> from the least <06996> even unto the

greatest <01419>, came <05066> near <05066>,

2  And said <0559> unto Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030>,

Let, we beseech <04994> thee, our supplication <08467> be

accepted <05307> before <06440> thee, and pray <06419> for us

unto the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>, [even] for all <03605>

this <02063> remnant <07611>; (for we are left <07604> [but] a

few <04592> of many <07235>, as thine eyes <05869> do behold

<07200> us:)

3  That the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> may shew <05046> us the

way <01870> wherein <0834> we may walk <01980>, and the thing

<01697> that we may do <06213>.

4  Then Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030> said <0559> unto

them, I have heard <08085> [you]; behold <02005>, I will pray

<06419> unto the LORD <03068> your God <0430> according to your

words <01697>; and it shall come <01961> to pass, [that]

whatsoever <03605> thing <01697> the LORD <03068> shall answer

<06030> you, I will declare <05046> [it] unto you; I will keep

<04513> nothing back <04513> from you.

5  Then they said <0559> to Jeremiah <03414>, The LORD <03068>

be a true <0571> and faithful <0539> witness <05707> between

<0996> us, if we do <06213> not even <03651> according to all

<03605> things <01697> for the which <0834> the LORD <03068> thy

God <0430> shall send <07971> thee to us.

6  Whether <0518> [it be] good <02896>, or whether <0518> [it

be] evil <07451>, we will obey <08085> the voice <06963> of the

LORD <03068> our God <0430>, to whom we send <07971> thee; that

it may be well <02896> with us, when <03588> we obey <08085> the

voice <06963> of the LORD <03068> our God <0430>.

 7. And it came <01961> to pass after <07093> ten <06235> days

<03117>, that the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961>

unto Jeremiah <03414>.

8  Then called <07121> he Johanan <03110> the son <01121> of

Kareah <07143>, and all <03605> the captains <08269> of the

forces <02428> which <0834> [were] with him, and all <03605> the

people <05971> from the least <06996> even to the greatest

<01419>,

9  And said <0559> unto them, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the

LORD <03068>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>, unto whom ye

sent <07971> me to present <05307> your supplication <08467>

before <06440> him;

10  If <0518> ye will still abide <03427> in this <02063> land

<0776>, then will I build <01129> you, and not pull <02040>

[you] down, and I will plant <05193> you, and not pluck <05428>

[you] up: for I repent <05162> me of the evil <07451> that I

have done <06213> unto you.

11  Be not afraid <03372> of the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>,

of whom ye are afraid <03373>; be not afraid <03372> of him,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>: for I [am] with you to save

<03467> you, and to deliver <05337> you from his hand <03027>.

12  And I will shew <05414> mercies <07356> unto you, that he

may have mercy <07355> upon you, and cause you to return <07725>

to your own land <0127>.

13  But if <0518> ye say <0559>, We will not dwell <03427> in

this <02063> land <0776>, neither <01115> obey <08085> the voice

<06963> of the LORD <03068> your God <0430>,

14  Saying <0559>, No <03808>; but we will go <0935> into the

land <0776> of Egypt <04714>, where <0834> we shall see <07200>

no <03808> war <04421>, nor <03808> hear <08085> the sound

<06963> of the trumpet <07782>, nor <03808> have hunger <07456>

of bread <03899>; and there <08033> will we dwell <03427>:

15  And now <06258> therefore <03651> hear <08085> the word

<01697> of the LORD <03068>, ye remnant <07611> of Judah <03063>;

Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; If <0518> ye wholly <07760>

set <07760> your faces <06440> to enter <0935> into Egypt

<04714>, and go <0935> to sojourn <01481> there <08033>;

16  Then it shall come <01961> to pass, [that] the sword

<02719>, which <0834> ye feared <03373>, shall overtake <05381>

you there <08033> in the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>, and the

famine <07458>, whereof <0834> ye were afraid <01672>, shall

follow <01692> close <01692> after <0310> you there <08033> in

Egypt <04714>; and there <08033> ye shall die <04191>.

17  So shall it be with all <03605> the men <0582> that set

<07760> their faces <06440> to go <0935> into <0935> Egypt

<04714> to sojourn <01481> there <08033>; they shall die <04191>

by the sword <02719>, by the famine <07458>, and by the

pestilence <01698>: and none <03808> of them shall remain

<08300> or escape <06412> from the evil <07451> that I will

bring <0935> upon them.

18  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts

<06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; As mine anger <0639>

and my fury <02534> hath been poured <05413> forth upon the

inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389>; so <03651> shall my

fury <02534> be poured <05413> forth upon you, when ye shall

enter <0935> into <0935> Egypt <04714>: and ye shall be an

execration <0423>, and an astonishment <08047>, and a curse

<07045>, and a reproach <02781>; and ye shall see <07200> this

<02088> place <04725> no <03808> more <05750>.

19  The LORD <03068> hath said <01696> concerning <05921> you,

O ye remnant <07611> of Judah <03063>; Go <0935> ye not into

Egypt <04714>: know <03045> certainly that I have admonished

<05749> you this day <03117>.

20  For ye dissembled <08582> in your hearts <05315>, when

<03588> ye sent <07971> me unto the LORD <03068> your God <0430>,

saying <0559>, Pray <06419> for us unto the LORD <03068> our

God <0430>; and according unto all <03605> that the LORD <03068>

our God <0430> shall say <0559>, so <03651> declare <05046> unto

us, and we will do <06213> [it].

21  And [now] I have this day <03117> declared <05046> [it] to

you; but ye have not obeyed <08085> the voice <06963> of the

LORD <03068> your God <0430>, nor any <03605> [thing] for the

which <0834> he hath sent <07971> me unto you.

22  Now <06258> therefore know <03045> certainly that ye shall

die <04191> by the sword <02719>, by the famine <07458>, and by

the pestilence <01698>, in the place <04725> whither ye desire

<02654> to go <0935> [and] to sojourn <01481>.

Jeremiah  43

 1. And it came <01961> to pass, [that] when Jeremiah <03414>

had made an end <03615> of speaking <01696> unto all <03605> the

people <05971> all <03605> the words <01697> of the LORD <03068>

their God <0430>, for which <0834> the LORD <03068> their God

<0430> had sent <07971> him to them, [even <0853>] all <03605>

these <0428> words <01697>,

2  Then spake <0559> Azariah <05838> the son <01121> of

Hoshaiah <01955>, and Johanan <03110> the son <01121> of Kareah

<07143>, and all <03605> the proud <02086> men <0582>, saying

<0559> unto Jeremiah <03414>, Thou speakest <01696> falsely

<08267>: the LORD <03068> our God <0430> hath not sent <07971>

thee to say <0559>, Go <0935> not into Egypt <04714> to sojourn

<01481> there <08033>:

3  But Baruch <01263> the son <01121> of Neriah <05374> setteth

<05496> thee on against us, for to deliver <05414> us into the

hand <03027> of the Chaldeans <03778>, that they might put us to

death <04191>, and carry <01540> us away captives <01540> into

Babylon <0894>.

4  So Johanan <03110> the son <01121> of Kareah <07143>, and

all <03605> the captains <08269> of the forces <02428>, and all

<03605> the people <05971>, obeyed <08085> not the voice <06963>

of the LORD <03068>, to dwell <03427> in the land <0776> of

Judah <03063>.

5  But Johanan <03110> the son <01121> of Kareah <07143>, and

all <03605> the captains <08269> of the forces <02428>, took

<03947> all <03605> the remnant <07611> of Judah <03063>, that

were returned <07725> from all <03605> nations <01471>, whither

they had been driven <05080>, to dwell <01481> in the land

<0776> of Judah <03063>;

6  [Even <0853>] men <01397>, and women <0802>, and children

<02945>, and the king's <04428> daughters <01121>, and every

<03605> person <05315> that Nebuzaradan <05018> the captain

<07227> of the guard <02876> had left <03240> with Gedaliah

<01436> the son <01121> of Ahikam <0296> the son <01121> of

Shaphan <08227>, and Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030>, and

Baruch <01263> the son <01121> of Neriah <05374>.

7  So they came <0935> into the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>:

for they obeyed <08085> not the voice <06963> of the LORD

<03068>: thus came <0935> they [even] to Tahpanhes <08471>.

 8. Then came <01961> the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> unto

Jeremiah <03414> in Tahpanhes <08471>, saying <0559>,

9  Take <03947> great <01419> stones <068> in thine hand

<03027>, and hide <02934> them in the clay <04423> in the

brickkiln <04404>, which <0834> [is] at the entry <06607> of

Pharaoh's <06547> house <01004> in Tahpanhes <08471>, in the

sight <05869> of the men <0582> of Judah <03064>;

10  And say <0559> unto them, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the

LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>;

Behold <02005>, I will send <07971> and take <03947>

Nebuchadrezzar <05019> the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>, my

servant <05650>, and will set <07760> his throne <03678> upon

these <0428> stones <068> that I have hid <02934>; and he shall

spread <05186> his royal <08237> pavilion <08237> over <05921>

them.

11  And when he cometh <0935>, he shall smite <05221> the land

<0776> of Egypt <04714>, [and deliver] such [as are] for death

<04194> to death <04194>; and such [as are] for captivity

<07628> to captivity <07628>; and such [as are] for the sword

<02719> to the sword <02719>.

 12  And I will kindle <03341> a fire <0784> in the houses

<01004> of the gods <0430> of Egypt <04714>; and he shall burn

<08313> them, and carry <07617> them away captives <07617>: and

he shall array <05844> himself with the land <0776> of Egypt

<04714>, as a shepherd <07462> putteth <05844> on his garment

<0899>; and he shall go <03318> forth <03318> from thence

<08033> in peace <07965>.

13  He shall break <07665> also the images <04676> of

Bethshemesh <01053>, that [is] in the land <0776> of Egypt

<04714>; and the houses <01004> of the gods <0430> of the

Egyptians <04714> shall he burn <08313> with fire <0784>.

Jeremiah  44

 1. The word <01697> that came <01961> to Jeremiah <03414>

concerning <0413> all <03605> the Jews <03064> which dwell

<03427> in the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>, which dwell <03427>

at Migdol <04024>, and at Tahpanhes <08471>, and at Noph <05297>,

and in the country <0776> of Pathros <06624>, saying <0559>,

 2  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; Ye have seen <07200> all

<03605> the evil <07451> that I have brought <0935> upon

Jerusalem <03389>, and upon all <03605> the cities <05892> of

Judah <03063>; and, behold <02009>, this <02088> day <03117>

they [are] a desolation <02723>, and no <0369> man dwelleth

<03427> therein,

 3  Because <06440> of their wickedness <07451> which <0834>

they have committed <06213> to provoke me to anger <03707>, in

that they went <03212> to burn <06999> incense <06999>, [and] to

serve <05647> other <0312> gods <0430>, whom <0834> they knew

<03045> not, [neither] they, ye, nor your fathers <01>.

4  Howbeit I sent <07971> unto you all <03605> my servants

<05650> the prophets <05030>, rising <07925> early <07925> and

sending <07971> [them], saying <0559>, Oh <04994>, do <06213>

not this <02088> abominable <08441> thing <01697> that I hate

<08130>.

5  But they hearkened <08085> not, nor <03808> inclined <05186>

their ear <0241> to turn <07725> from their wickedness <07451>,

to burn <06999> no <01115> incense <06999> unto other <0312>

gods <0430>.

6  Wherefore my fury <02534> and mine anger <0639> was poured

<05413> forth, and was kindled <01197> in the cities <05892> of

Judah <03063> and in the streets <02351> of Jerusalem <03389>;

and they are wasted <02723> [and] desolate <08077>, as at this

<02088> day <03117>.

7  Therefore now <06258> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>, the God <0430> of hosts <06635>, the God <0430> of

Israel <03478>; Wherefore <04100> commit <06213> ye [this] great

<01419> evil <07451> against <0413> your souls <05315>, to cut

<03772> off from you man <0376> and woman <0802>, child <05768>

and suckling <03243>, out of Judah <03063>, to leave <03498> you

none <01115> to remain <07611>;

8  In that ye provoke me unto wrath <03707> with the works

<04639> of your hands <03027>, burning <06999> incense <06999>

unto other <0312> gods <0430> in the land <0776> of Egypt

<04714>, whither ye be gone <0935> to dwell <01481>, that ye

might cut <03772> yourselves off, and that ye might be a curse

<07045> and a reproach <02781> among all <03605> the nations

<01471> of the earth <0776>?

9  Have ye forgotten <07911> the wickedness <07451> of your

fathers <01>, and the wickedness <07451> of the kings <04428> of

Judah <03063>, and the wickedness <07451> of their wives <0802>,

and your own wickedness <07451>, and the wickedness <07451> of

your wives <0802>, which <0834> they have committed <06213> in

the land <0776> of Judah <03063>, and in the streets <02351> of

Jerusalem <03389>?

10  They are not humbled <01792> [even] unto this <02088> day

<03117>, neither <03808> have they feared <03372>, nor <03808>

walked <01980> in my law <08451>, nor in my statutes <02708>,

that I set <05414> before <06440> you and before <06440> your

fathers <01>.

 11  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>;

Behold <02005>, I will set <07760> my face <06440> against you

for evil <07451>, and to cut <03772> off all <03605> Judah

<03063>.

12  And I will take <03947> the remnant <07611> of Judah

<03063>, that have set <07760> their faces <06440> to go <0935>

into the land <0776> of Egypt <04714> to sojourn <01481> there

<08033>, and they shall all <03605> be consumed <08552>, [and]

fall <05307> in the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>; they shall

[even] be consumed <08552> by the sword <02719> [and] by the

famine <07458>: they shall die <04191>, from the least <06996>

even unto the greatest <01419>, by the sword <02719> and by the

famine <07458>: and they shall be an execration <0423>, [and] an

astonishment <08047>, and a curse <07045>, and a reproach

<02781>.

13  For I will punish <06485> them that dwell <03427> in the

land <0776> of Egypt <04714>, as I have punished <06485>

Jerusalem <03389>, by the sword <02719>, by the famine <07458>,

and by the pestilence <01698>:

14  So that none <03808> of the remnant <07611> of Judah

<03063>, which are gone <0935> into the land <0776> of Egypt

<04714> to sojourn <01481> there <08033>, shall escape <06412>

or remain <08300>, that they should return <07725> into the land

<0776> of Judah <03063>, to the which <0834> they have <05375> a

desire to return <07725> to dwell <03427> there <08033>: for

none <03808> shall return <07725> but such as shall escape

<06412>.

 15. Then all <03605> the men <0582> which knew <03045> that

their wives <0802> had burned <06999> incense <06999> unto other

<0312> gods <0430>, and all <03605> the women <0802> that stood

<05975> by, a great <01419> multitude <06951>, even all <03605>

the people <05971> that dwelt <03427> in the land <0776> of

Egypt <04714>, in Pathros <06624>, answered <06030> Jeremiah

<03414>, saying <0559>,

16  [As for] the word <01697> that thou hast spoken <01696>

unto us in the name <08034> of the LORD <03068>, we will not

hearken <08085> unto thee.

17  But we will certainly do <06213> whatsoever thing <01697>

goeth <03318> forth <03318> out of our own mouth <06310>, to

burn <06999> incense <06999> unto the queen <04446> of heaven

<08064>, and to pour <05258> out drink <05262> offerings unto

her, as we have done <06213>, we, and our fathers <01>, our

kings <04428>, and our princes <08269>, in the cities <05892> of

Judah <03063>, and in the streets <02351> of Jerusalem <03389>:

for [then] had <01961> we plenty <07646> of victuals <03899>,

and were well <02896>, and saw <07200> no <03808> evil <07451>.

18  But since we left <02308> off to burn <06999> incense

<06999> to the queen <04446> of heaven <08064>, and to pour

<05258> out drink <05262> offerings unto her, we have wanted

<02637> all <03605> [things], and have been consumed <08552> by

the sword <02719> and by the famine <07458>.

19  And when <03588> we burned <06999> incense <06999> to the

queen <04446> of heaven <08064>, and poured <05258> out drink

<05262> offerings unto her, did we make <06213> her cakes

<03561> to worship <06087> her, and pour <05258> out drink

<05262> offerings unto her, without <01107> our men <0582>?

 20. Then Jeremiah <03414> said <0559> unto all <03605> the

people <05971>, to the men <01397>, and to the women <0802>, and

to all <03605> the people <05971> which had given him [that]

answer <06030>, saying <0559>,

21  The incense <07002> that ye burned <06999> in the cities

<05892> of Judah <03063>, and in the streets <02351> of

Jerusalem <03389>, ye, and your fathers <01>, your kings <04428>,

and your princes <08269>, and the people <05971> of the land

<0776>, did not the LORD <03068> remember <02142> them, and came

<05927> it [not] into <05921> his mind <03820>?

22  So that the LORD <03068> could <03201> no <03808> longer

<05750> bear <05375>, because <06440> of the evil <07455> of

your doings <04611>, [and] because <06440> of the abominations

<08441> which <0834> ye have committed <06213>; therefore is

your land <0776> a desolation <02723>, and an astonishment

<08047>, and a curse <07045>, without <0369> an inhabitant

<03427>, as at this <02088> day <03117>.

23  Because ye have burned <06999> incense <06999>, and because

<0834> ye have sinned <02398> against the LORD <03068>, and have

not obeyed <08085> the voice <06963> of the LORD <03068>, nor

<03808> walked <01980> in his law <08451>, nor in his statutes

<02708>, nor in his testimonies <05715>; therefore this <02063>

evil <07451> is happened <07122> unto you, as at this <02088>

day <03117>.

24  Moreover Jeremiah <03414> said <0559> unto all <03605> the

people <05971>, and to all <03605> the women <0802>, Hear

<08085> the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>, all <03605> Judah

<03063> that [are] in the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>:

 25  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>,

the God <0430> of Israel <03478>, saying <0559>; Ye and your

wives <0802> have both spoken <01696> with your mouths <06310>,

and fulfilled <04390> with your hand <03027>, saying <0559>, We

will surely perform <06213> our vows <05088> that we have vowed

<05087>, to burn <06999> incense <06999> to the queen <04446> of

heaven <08064>, and to pour <05258> out drink <05262> offerings

unto her: ye will surely accomplish <06965> your vows <05088>,

and surely perform <06213> your vows <05088>.

26  Therefore <03651> hear <08085> ye the word <01697> of the

LORD <03068>, all <03605> Judah <03063> that dwell <03427> in

the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>; Behold <02005>, I have sworn

<07650> by my great <01419> name <08034>, saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>, that my name <08034> shall no <0518> more <05750> be

named <07121> in the mouth <06310> of any <03605> man <0376> of

Judah <03063> in all <03605> the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>,

saying <0559>, The Lord <0136> GOD <03069> liveth <02416>.

 27  Behold <02005>, I will watch <08245> over <05921> them for

evil <07451>, and not for good <02896>: and all <03605> the men

<0376> of Judah <03063> that [are] in the land <0776> of Egypt

<04714> shall be consumed <08552> by the sword <02719> and by

the famine <07458>, until <05704> there be an end <03615> of

them.

 28  Yet a small <04962> number <04557> that escape <06412> the

sword <02719> shall return <07725> out of the land <0776> of

Egypt <04714> into the land <0776> of Judah <03063>, and all

<03605> the remnant <07611> of Judah <03063>, that are gone

<0935> into the land <0776> of Egypt <04714> to sojourn <01481>

there <08033>, shall know <03045> whose <04310> words <01697>

shall stand <06965>, mine, or theirs <01992>.

29  And this <02063> [shall be] a sign <0226> unto you, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>, that I will punish <06485> you in this

<02088> place <04725>, that ye may know <03045> that my words

<01697> shall surely stand <06965> against <05921> you for evil

<07451>:

 30  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Behold <02005>,

I will give <05414> Pharaohhophra <06548> king <04428> of Egypt

<04714> into the hand <03027> of his enemies <0341>, and into

the hand <03027> of them that seek <01245> his life <05315>; as

I gave <05414> Zedekiah <06667> king <04428> of Judah <03063>

into the hand <03027> of Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king <04428> of

Babylon <0894>, his enemy <0341>, and that sought <01245> his

life <05315>.

Jeremiah  45

 1. The word <01697> that Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030>

spake <01696> unto Baruch <01263> the son <01121> of Neriah

<05374>, when he had written <03789> these words <01697> in a

book <05612> at the mouth <06310> of Jeremiah <03414>, in the

fourth <07243> year <08141> of Jehoiakim <03079> the son <01121>

of Josiah <02977> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, saying <0559>,

 2  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, the God <0430>

of Israel <03478>, unto thee, O Baruch <01263>;

3  Thou didst say <0559>, Woe <0188> is me now <04994>! for the

LORD <03068> hath added <03254> grief <03015> to my sorrow

<04341>; I fainted <03021> in my sighing <0585>, and I find

<04672> no <03808> rest <04496>.

4  Thus <03541> shalt thou say <0559> unto him, The LORD

<03068> saith <0559> thus <03541>; Behold <02009>, [that] which

<0834> I have built <01129> will I break <02040> down <02040>,

and that which <0834> I have planted <05193> I will pluck

<05428> up, even this <01931> whole <03605> land <0776>.

5  And seekest <01245> thou great <01419> things for thyself?

seek <01245> [them] not: for, behold <02005>, I will bring

<0935> evil <07451> upon all <03605> flesh <01320>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>: but thy life <05315> will I give

<05414> unto thee for a prey <07998> in all <03605> places

<04725> whither thou goest <03212>.

Jeremiah  46

 1. The word <01697> of the LORD <03068> which <0834> came

<01961> to Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030> against <05921>

the Gentiles <01471>;

2  Against Egypt <04714>, against the army <02428> of

Pharaohnecho <06549> king <04428> of Egypt <04714>, which <0834>

was by the river <05104> Euphrates <06578> in Carchemish <03751>,

which <0834> Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king <04428> of Babylon

<0894> smote <05221> in the fourth <07243> year <08141> of

Jehoiakim <03079> the son <01121> of Josiah <02977> king <04428>

of Judah <03063>.

3  Order <06186> ye the buckler <04043> and shield <06793>, and

draw near <05066> to battle <04421>.

4  Harness <0631> the horses <05483>; and get <05927> up, ye

horsemen <06571>, and stand <03320> forth with [your] helmets

<03553>; furbish <04838> the spears <07420>, [and] put <03847>

on the brigandines <05630>.

 5  Wherefore <04069> have I seen <07200> them dismayed <02844>

[and] turned <05472> away back <0268>? and their mighty <01368>

ones are beaten <03807> down, and are fled <05127> apace, and

look <06437> not back <06437>: [for] fear <04032> [was] round

<05439> about, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

6  Let not the swift <07031> flee <05127> away, nor <0408> the

mighty <01368> man escape <04422>; they shall stumble <03782>,

and fall <05307> toward the north <06828> by the river <05104>

Euphrates <06578>.

 7  Who <04310> [is] this <02088> [that] cometh <05927> up as a

flood <02975>, whose waters <04325> are moved <01607> as the

rivers <05104>?

 8  Egypt <04714> riseth <05927> up like a flood <02975>, and

[his] waters <04325> are moved <01607> like the rivers <05104>;

and he saith <0559>, I will go <05927> up, [and] will cover

<03680> the earth <0776>; I will destroy <06> the city <05892>

and the inhabitants <03427> thereof.

9  Come <05927> up, ye horses <05483>; and rage <01984>, ye

chariots <07393>; and let the mighty <01368> men come <03318>

forth <03318>; the Ethiopians <03569> and the Libyans <06316>,

that handle <08610> the shield <04043>; and the Lydians <03866>,

that handle <08610> [and] bend <01869> the bow <07198>.

10  For this <01931> [is] the day <03117> of the Lord <0136>

GOD <03069> of hosts <06635>, a day <03117> of vengeance <05360>,

that he may avenge <05358> him of his adversaries <06862>: and

the sword <02719> shall devour <0398>, and it shall be satiate

<07646> and made drunk <07301> with their blood <01818>: for the

Lord <0136> GOD <03069> of hosts <06635> hath a sacrifice

<02077> in the north <06828> country <0776> by the river <05104>

Euphrates <06578>.

11  Go <05927> up into Gilead <01568>, and take <03947> balm

<06875>, O virgin <01330>, the daughter <01323> of Egypt <04714>:

 in vain <07723> shalt thou use many <07235> medicines <07499>;

[for] thou shalt not be cured <08585>.

 12. The nations <01471> have heard <08085> of thy shame <07036>,

and thy cry <06682> hath filled <04390> the land <0776>: for

the mighty <01368> man hath stumbled <03782> against the mighty

<01368>, [and] they are fallen <05307> both <08147> together

<03162>.

13  The word <01697> that the LORD <03068> spake <01696> to

Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030>, how Nebuchadrezzar <05019>

king <04428> of Babylon <0894> should come <0935> [and] smite

<05221> the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>.

14  Declare <05046> ye in Egypt <04714>, and publish <08085> in

Migdol <04024>, and publish <08085> in Noph <05297> and in

Tahpanhes <08471>: say <0559> ye, Stand <03320> fast, and

prepare <03559> thee; for the sword <02719> shall devour <0398>

round <05439> about thee.

15  Why <04069> are thy valiant <047> [men] swept <05502> away?

they stood <05975> not, because <03588> the LORD <03068> did

drive <01920> them.

16  He made many <07235> to fall <03782>, yea, one <0376> fell

<05307> upon another <07453>: and they said <0559>, Arise

<06965>, and let us go <07725> again <07725> to our own people

<05971>, and to the land <0776> of our nativity <04138>, from

the oppressing <03238> sword <02719>.

17  They did cry <07121> there <08033>, Pharaoh <06547> king

<04428> of Egypt <04714> [is but] a noise <07588>; he hath

passed <05674> the time appointed <04150>.

 18  [As] I live <02416>, saith <05002> the King <04428>, whose

name <08034> [is] the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>, Surely

<03588> as Tabor <08396> [is] among the mountains <02022>, and

as Carmel <03760> by the sea <03220>, [so] shall he come <0935>.

 19  O thou daughter <01323> dwelling <03427> in Egypt <04714>,

furnish thyself to go into captivity <01473>: for Noph <05297>

shall be waste <08047> and desolate <03341> without <0369> an

inhabitant <03427>.

 20  Egypt <04714> [is like] a very <03304> fair <03304> heifer

<05697>, [but] destruction <07171> cometh <0935>; it cometh

<0935> out of the north <06828>.

21  Also <01571> her hired <07916> men [are] in the midst

<07130> of her like fatted <04770> bullocks <05695>; for they

also <01571> are turned <06437> back <06437>, [and] are fled

<05127> away together <03162>: they did not stand <05975>,

because <03588> the day <03117> of their calamity <0343> was

come <0935> upon them, [and] the time <06256> of their

visitation <06486>.

22  The voice <06963> thereof shall go <03212> like a serpent

<05175>; for they shall march <03212> with an army <02428>, and

come <0935> against her with axes <07134>, as hewers <02404> of

wood <06086>.

23  They shall cut <03772> down her forest <03293>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>, though it cannot <03808> be searched

<02713>; because <03588> they are more <07231> than the

grasshoppers <0697>, and [are] innumerable.

24  The daughter <01323> of Egypt <04714> shall be confounded

<03001>; she shall be delivered <05414> into the hand <03027> of

the people <05971> of the north <06828>.

25  The LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>, the God <0430> of Israel

<03478>, saith <0559>; Behold <02005>, I will punish <06485> the

multitude <0582> of No, and Pharaoh <06547>, and Egypt <04714>,

with their gods <0430>, and their kings <04428>; even Pharaoh

<06547>, and [all] them that trust <0982> in him:

26  And I will deliver <05414> them into the hand <03027> of

those that seek <01245> their lives <05315>, and into the hand

<03027> of Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king <04428> of Babylon <0894>,

and into the hand <03027> of his servants <05650>: and

afterward it shall be inhabited <07931>, as in the days <03117>

of old <06924>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

27  But fear <03372> not thou, O my servant <05650> Jacob

<03290>, and be not dismayed <02865>, O Israel <03478>: for,

behold <02005>, I will save <03467> thee from afar <07350> off,

and thy seed <02233> from the land <0776> of their captivity

<07633>; and Jacob <03290> shall return <07725>, and be in rest

<08252> and at ease <07599>, and none <0369> shall make [him]

afraid <02729>.

 28  Fear <03372> thou not, O Jacob <03290> my servant <05650>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>: for I [am] with thee; for I will

make <06213> a full end <03615> of all <03605> the nations

<01471> whither I have driven <05080> thee: but I will not make

<06213> a full end <03615> of thee, but correct <03256> thee in

measure <04941>; yet will I not leave thee wholly <05352>

unpunished <05352>.

Jeremiah  47

 1. The word <01697> of the LORD <03068> that came <01961> to

Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030> against <0413> the

Philistines <06430>, before <06440> that Pharaoh <06547> smote

<05221> Gaza <05804>.

 2  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Behold <02009>,

waters <04325> rise <05927> up out of the north <06828>, and

shall be an overflowing <07857> flood <05158>, and shall

overflow <07857> the land <0776>, and all <04393> that is

therein <04393>; the city <05892>, and them that dwell <03427>

therein: then the men <0120> shall cry <02199>, and all <03605>

the inhabitants <03427> of the land <0776> shall howl <03213>.

3  At the noise <06963> of the stamping <08161> of the hoofs

<06541> of his strong <047> [horses], at the rushing <07494> of

his chariots <07393>, [and at] the rumbling <01995> of his

wheels <01534>, the fathers <01> shall not look <06437> back

<06437> to [their] children <01121> for feebleness <07510> of

hands <03027>;

4  Because <05921> of the day <03117> that cometh <0935> to

spoil <07703> all <03605> the Philistines <06430>, [and] to cut

<03772> off from Tyrus <06865> and Zidon <06721> every <03605>

helper <05826> that remaineth <08300>: for the LORD <03068> will

spoil <07703> the Philistines <06430>, the remnant <07611> of

the country <0339> of Caphtor <03731>.

5  Baldness <07144> is come <0935> upon Gaza <05804>; Ashkelon

<0831> is cut <01820> off [with] the remnant <07611> of their

valley <06010>: how long <05704> wilt thou cut <01413> thyself?

 6  O thou sword <02719> of the LORD <03068>, how <05704> long

<05704> [will it be] ere <03808> thou be quiet <08252>? put

<0622> up thyself into <0413> thy scabbard <08593>, rest <07280>,

 and be still <01826>.

7  How <0349> can it be quiet <08252>, seeing the LORD <03068>

hath given it a charge <06680> against <0413> Ashkelon <0831>,

and against <0413> the sea <03220> shore <02348>? there <08033>

hath he appointed <03259> it.

Jeremiah  48

 1. Against Moab <04124> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; Woe

<01945> unto Nebo <05015>! for it is spoiled <07703>: Kiriathaim

<07156> is confounded <03001> [and] taken <03920>: Misgab

<04869> is confounded <03001> and dismayed <02865>.

2  [There shall be] no <0369> more <05750> praise <08416> of

Moab <04124>: in Heshbon <02809> they have devised <02803> evil

<07451> against <05921> it; come <03212>, and let us cut <03772>

it off from [being] a nation <01471>. Also <01571> thou shalt be

cut <01826> down, O Madmen <04086>; the sword <02719> shall

pursue <03212> thee.

3  A voice <06963> of crying <06818> [shall be] from Horonaim

<02773>, spoiling <07701> and great <01419> destruction <07667>.

4  Moab <04124> is destroyed <07665>; her little <06810> ones

have caused a cry <02201> to be heard <08085>.

5  For in the going <04608> up of Luhith <03872> continual

weeping <01065> shall go <05927> up; for in the going <04174>

down <04174> of Horonaim <02773> the enemies <06862> have heard

<08085> a cry <06818> of destruction <07667>.

6  Flee <05127>, save <04422> your lives <05315>, and be like

<02421> the heath <06176> in the wilderness <04057>.

7  For because thou hast trusted <0982> in thy works <04639>

and in thy treasures <0214>, thou shalt also <01571> be taken

<03920>: and Chemosh <03645> shall go <03318> forth <03318> into

captivity <01473> [with] his priests <03548> and his princes

<08269> together <03162>.

8  And the spoiler <07703> shall come <0935> upon every <03605>

city <05892>, and no <03808> city <05892> shall escape <04422>:

the valley <06010> also shall perish <06>, and the plain <04334>

shall be destroyed <08045>, as the LORD <03068> hath spoken

<0559>.

9  Give <05414> wings <06731> unto Moab <04124>, that it may

flee <05323> and get <03318> away <03318>: for the cities

<05892> thereof shall be desolate <08047>, without <0369> any to

dwell <03427> therein <02004>.

10  Cursed <0779> [be] he that doeth <06213> the work <04399>

of the LORD <03068> deceitfully <07423>, and cursed <0779> [be]

he that keepeth <04513> back <04513> his sword <02719> from

blood <01818>.

11  Moab <04124> hath been at ease <07599> from his youth

<05271>, and he hath settled <08252> on <0413> his lees <08105>,

and hath not been <01961> emptied <07324> from vessel <03627> to

vessel <03627>, neither <03808> hath he gone <01980> into

captivity <01473>: therefore his taste <02940> remained <05975>

in him, and his scent <07381> is not changed <04171>.

 12  Therefore <03651>, behold <02009>, the days <03117> come

<0935>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, that I will send <07971>

unto him wanderers <06808>, that shall cause him to wander

<06808>, and shall empty <07324> his vessels <03627>, and break

<05310> their bottles <05035>.

13  And Moab <04124> shall be ashamed <0954> of Chemosh <03645>,

as the house <01004> of Israel <03478> was ashamed <0954> of

Bethel <01008> their confidence <04009>.

 14. How <0349> say <0559> ye, We [are] mighty <01368> and

strong <02428> men <0582> for the war <04421>?

15  Moab <04124> is spoiled <07703>, and gone <05927> up [out

of] her cities <05892>, and his chosen <04005> young <0970> men

are gone <03381> down <03381> to the slaughter <02875>, saith

<05002> the King <04428>, whose name <08034> [is] the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635>.

16  The calamity <0343> of Moab <04124> [is] near <07138> to

come <0935>, and his affliction <07451> hasteth <04116> fast

<03966>.

17  All <03605> ye that are about <05439> him, bemoan <05110>

him; and all <03605> ye that know <03045> his name <08034>, say

<0559>, How <0349> is the strong <05797> staff <04294> broken

<07665>, [and] the beautiful <08597> rod <04731>!

18  Thou daughter <01323> that dost inhabit <03427> Dibon

<01769>, come <03381> down <03381> from [thy] glory <03519>, and

sit <03427> in thirst <06772>; for the spoiler <07703> of Moab

<04124> shall come <05927> upon thee, [and] he shall destroy

<07843> thy strong <04013> holds <04013>.

 19  O inhabitant <03427> of Aroer <06177>, stand <05975> by the

way <01870>, and espy <06822>; ask <07592> him that fleeth

<05127>, and her that escapeth <04422>, [and] say <0559>, What

<04100> is done?

20  Moab <04124> is confounded <03001>; for it is broken

<02865> down: howl <03213> and cry <02199>; tell <05046> ye it

in Arnon <0769>, that Moab <04124> is spoiled <07703>,

21  And judgment <04941> is come <0935> upon the plain <04334>

country <0776>; upon Holon <02473>, and upon Jahazah <03096>,

and upon Mephaath <04158>,

22  And upon Dibon <01769>, and upon Nebo <05015>, and upon

Bethdiblathaim <01015>,

23  And upon Kiriathaim <07156>, and upon Bethgamul <01014>,

and upon Bethmeon <01010>,

24  And upon Kerioth <07152>, and upon Bozrah <01224>, and upon

all <03605> the cities <05892> of the land <0776> of Moab

<04124>, far <07350> or near <07138>.

25  The horn <07161> of Moab <04124> is cut <01438> off, and

his arm <02220> is broken <07665>, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>.

26  Make ye him drunken <07937>: for he magnified <01431>

[himself] against <05921> the LORD <03068>: Moab <04124> also

shall wallow <05606> in his vomit <06892>, and he also <01571>

shall be in derision <07814>.

27  For was not Israel <03478> a derision <07814> unto thee?

was he found <04672> among thieves <01590>? for since <01767>

thou spakest <01697> of him, thou skippedst <05110> for joy.

 28  O ye that dwell <03427> in Moab <04124>, leave <05800> the

cities <05892>, and dwell <07931> in the rock <05553>, and be

like the dove <03123> [that] maketh her nest <07077> in the

sides <05676> of the hole's <06354> mouth <06310>.

29  We have heard <08085> the pride <01347> of Moab <04124>,

(he is exceeding <03966> proud <01343>) his loftiness <01363>,

and his arrogancy <01347>, and his pride <01347>, and the

haughtiness <07312> of his heart <03820>.

 30  I know <03045> his wrath <05678>, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>; but [it shall] not [be] so <03651>; his lies <0907>

shall not so <03651> effect <06213> [it].

 31  Therefore will I howl <03213> for Moab <04124>, and I will

cry <02199> out for all <03605> Moab <04124>; [mine heart] shall

mourn <01897> for the men <0582> of Kirheres <07025>.

 32  O vine <01612> of Sibmah <07643>, I will weep <01058> for

thee with the weeping <01065> of Jazer <03270>: thy plants

<05189> are gone <05674> over <05674> the sea <03220>, they

reach <05060> [even] to the sea <03220> of Jazer <03270>: the

spoiler <07703> is fallen <05307> upon thy summer <07019> fruits

and upon thy vintage <01210>.

33  And joy <08057> and gladness <08057> is taken <0622> from

the plentiful <03759> field, and from the land <0776> of Moab

<04124>; and I have caused wine <03196> to fail <07673> from the

winepresses <03342>: none <03808> shall tread <01869> with

shouting <01959>; [their] shouting <01959> [shall be] no <03808>

shouting <01959>.

34  From the cry <02201> of Heshbon <02809> [even] unto Elealeh

<0500>, [and even] unto Jahaz <03096>, have they uttered <05414>

their voice <06963>, from Zoar <06820> [even] unto Horonaim

<02773>, [as] an heifer <05697> of three <07992> years old

<07992>: for the waters <04325> also <01571> of Nimrim <05249>

shall be desolate <04923>.

35  Moreover I will cause to cease <07673> in Moab <04124>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, him that offereth <05927> in the

high <01116> places, and him that burneth <06999> incense

<06999> to his gods <0430>.

36  Therefore mine heart <03820> shall sound <01993> for Moab

<04124> like pipes <02485>, and mine heart <03820> shall sound

<01993> like pipes <02485> for the men <0582> of Kirheres

<07025>: because the riches <03502> [that] he hath gotten

<06213> are perished <06>.

37  For every <03605> head <07218> [shall be] bald <07144>, and

every <03605> beard <02206> clipped <01639>: upon all <03605>

the hands <03027> [shall be] cuttings <01417>, and upon the

loins <04975> sackcloth <08242>.

38  [There shall be] lamentation <04553> generally <03605> upon

all <03605> the housetops <01406> of Moab <04124>, and in the

streets <07339> thereof: for I have broken <07665> Moab <04124>

like a vessel <03627> wherein [is] no <0369> pleasure <02656>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

39  They shall howl <03213>, [saying], How <0349> is it broken

<02865> down! how <0349> hath Moab <04124> turned <06437> the

back <06203> with shame <0954>! so shall Moab <04124> be a

derision <07814> and a dismaying <04288> to all <03605> them

about <05439> him.

40  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Behold

<02009>, he shall fly <01675> as an eagle <05404>, and shall

spread <06566> his wings <03671> over <0413> Moab <04124>.

41  Kerioth <07152> is taken <03920>, and the strong <04679>

holds <04679> are surprised <08610>, and the mighty <01368>

men's hearts <03820> in Moab <04124> at that day <03117> shall

be as the heart <03820> of a woman <0802> in her pangs <06887>.

42  And Moab <04124> shall be destroyed <08045> from [being] a

people <05971>, because he hath magnified <01431> [himself]

against <05921> the LORD <03068>.

43  Fear <06343>, and the pit <06354>, and the snare <06341>,

[shall be] upon thee, O inhabitant <03427> of Moab <04124>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

44  He that fleeth <05211> from the fear <06343> shall fall

<05307> into <0413> the pit <06354>; and he that getteth <05927>

up out of the pit <06354> shall be taken <03920> in the snare

<06341>: for I will bring <0935> upon it, [even] upon Moab

<04124>, the year <08141> of their visitation <06486>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>.

45  They that fled <05127> stood <05975> under the shadow

<06738> of Heshbon <02809> because of the force <03581>: but a

fire <0784> shall come <03318> forth <03318> out of Heshbon

<02809>, and a flame <03852> from the midst of Sihon <05511>,

and shall devour <0398> the corner <06285> of Moab <04124>, and

the crown <06936> of the head <06936> of the tumultuous ones

<01121>.

 46  Woe <0188> be unto thee, O Moab <04124>! the people <05971>

of Chemosh <03645> perisheth <06>: for thy sons <01121> are

taken <03947> captives <07628>, and thy daughters <01121>

captives <07633>.

47  Yet will I bring <07725> again <07725> the captivity

<07622> of Moab <04124> in the latter <0319> days <03117>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>. Thus <02008> far <02008> [is] the

judgment <04941> of Moab <04124>.

Jeremiah  49

 1. Concerning the Ammonites <05984>, thus <03541> saith <0559>

the LORD <03068>; Hath Israel <03478> no <0369> sons <01121>?

hath he no <0369> heir <03423>? why <04069> [then] doth their

king <04428> inherit <03423> Gad <01410>, and his people <05971>

dwell <03427> in his cities <05892>?

 2  Therefore <03651>, behold <02009>, the days <03117> come

<0935>, saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, that I will cause an

alarm <08643> of war <04421> to be heard <08085> in Rabbah

<07237> of the Ammonites <05984>; and it shall be a desolate

<08077> heap <08510>, and her daughters <01121> shall be burned

<03341> with fire <0784>: then shall Israel <03478> be heir

<03423> unto them that were his heirs <03423>, saith <05002> the

LORD <03068>.

 3  Howl <03213>, O Heshbon <02809>, for Ai <05857> is spoiled

<07703>: cry <06817>, ye daughters <01121> of Rabbah <07237>,

gird <02296> you with sackcloth <08242>; lament <05594>, and run

<07751> to and fro <07751> by the hedges <01448>; for their king

<04428> shall go <03212> into captivity <01473>, [and] his

priests <03548> and his princes <08269> together <03162>.

4  Wherefore <04100> gloriest <01984> thou in the valleys

<06010>, thy flowing <02100> valley <06010>, O backsliding

<07728> daughter <01323>? that trusted <0982> in her treasures

<0214>, [saying], Who <04310> shall come <0935> unto me?

 5  Behold <02005>, I will bring <0935> a fear <06343> upon thee,

saith <05002> the Lord <0136> GOD <03069> of hosts <06635>,

from all <03605> those that be about <05439> thee; and ye shall

be driven <05080> out every man <0376> right <06440> forth

<06440>; and none <0369> shall gather <06908> up him that

wandereth <05074>.

6  And afterward I will bring <07725> again <07725> the

captivity <07622> of the children <01121> of Ammon <05983>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

 7. Concerning Edom <0123>, thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635>; [Is] wisdom <02451> no <0369> more

<05750> in Teman <08487>? is counsel <06098> perished <06> from

the prudent <0995>? is their wisdom <02451> vanished <05628>?

 8  Flee <05127> ye, turn <06437> back <06437>, dwell <03427>

deep <06009>, O inhabitants <03427> of Dedan <01719>; for I will

bring <0935> the calamity <0343> of Esau <06215> upon him, the

time <06256> [that] I will visit <06485> him.

9  If <0518> grapegatherers <01219> come <0935> to thee, would

they not leave <07604> [some] gleaning <05955> grapes? if <0518>

thieves <01590> by night <03915>, they will destroy <07843> till

<05704> they have enough <01767>.

 10  But I have made Esau <06215> bare <02834>, I have uncovered

<01540> his secret <04565> places, and he shall not be able

<03201> to hide <02247> himself: his seed <02233> is spoiled

<07703>, and his brethren <0251>, and his neighbours <07934>,

and he [is] not.

 11  Leave <05800> thy fatherless <03490> children <01121>, I

will preserve <02421> [them] alive <02421>; and let thy widows

<0490> trust <0982> in me.

12  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Behold

<02009>, they whose <0834> judgment <04941> [was] not to drink

<08354> of the cup <03563> have assuredly <08354> drunken

<07937>; and [art] thou he [that] shall altogether go unpunished

<05352>? thou shalt not go <03212> unpunished <05352>, but thou

shalt surely <03588> drink <08354> [of it].

13  For I have sworn <07650> by myself, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>, that Bozrah <01224> shall become <01961> a desolation

<08047>, a reproach <02781>, a waste <02721>, and a curse

<07045>; and all <03605> the cities <05892> thereof shall be

perpetual <05769> wastes <02723>.

 14  I have heard <08085> a rumour <08052> from the LORD <03068>,

and an ambassador <06735> is sent <07971> unto the heathen

<01471>, [saying], Gather <06908> ye together, and come <0935>

against <05921> her, and rise <06965> up to the battle <04421>.

 15  For, lo <02009>, I will make <05414> thee small <06996>

among the heathen <01471>, [and] despised <0959> among men

<0120>.

16  Thy terribleness <08606> hath deceived <05377> thee, [and]

the pride <02087> of thine heart <03820>, O thou that dwellest

<07931> in the clefts <02288> of the rock <05553>, that holdest

<08610> the height <04791> of the hill <01389>: though <03588>

thou shouldest make thy nest <07064> as high <01361> as the

eagle <05404>, I will bring <03381> thee down <03381> from

thence <08033>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

17  Also Edom <0123> shall be a desolation <08047>: every

<03605> one that goeth <05674> by it shall be astonished <08074>,

and shall hiss <08319> at <05921> all <03605> the plagues

<04347> thereof.

18  As in the overthrow <04114> of Sodom <05467> and Gomorrah

<06017> and the neighbour <07934> [cities] thereof, saith <0559>

the LORD <03068>, no <03808> man <0376> shall abide <03427>

there <08033>, neither <03808> shall a son <01121> of man <0120>

dwell <01481> in it.

 19  Behold <02009>, he shall come <05927> up like a lion <0738>

from the swelling <01347> of Jordan <03383> against <0413> the

habitation <05116> of the strong <0386>: but I will suddenly

<07280> make him run <07323> away from her: and who <04310> [is]

a chosen <0970> [man, that] I may appoint <06485> over <0413>

her? for who <04310> [is] like <03644> me? and who <04310> will

appoint <03259> me the time? and who <04310> [is] that shepherd

<07462> that will stand <05975> before <06440> me?

20  Therefore <03651> hear <08085> the counsel <06098> of the

LORD <03068>, that he hath taken <03289> against <0413> Edom

<0123>; and his purposes <04284>, that he hath purposed <02803>

against <0413> the inhabitants <03427> of Teman <08487>: Surely

the least <06810> of the flock <06629> shall draw <05498> them

out: surely he shall make their habitations <05116> desolate

<08074> with them.

21  The earth <0776> is moved <07493> at the noise <06963> of

their fall <05307>, at the cry <06818> the noise <06963> thereof

was heard <08085> in the Red <05488> sea <03220>.

22  Behold <02009>, he shall come <05927> up and fly <01675> as

the eagle <05404>, and spread <06566> his wings <03671> over

<05921> Bozrah <01224>: and at that day <03117> shall the heart

<03820> of the mighty <01368> men of Edom <0123> be as the heart

<03820> of a woman <0802> in her pangs <06887>.

 23. Concerning Damascus <01834>. Hamath <02574> is confounded

<0954>, and Arpad <0774>: for they have heard <08085> evil

<07451> tidings <08052>: they are fainthearted <04127>; [there

is] sorrow <01974> on the sea <03220>; it cannot be quiet

<08252>.

24  Damascus <01834> is waxed feeble <07503>, [and] turneth

<06437> herself to flee <05127>, and fear <07374> hath seized

<02388> on [her]: anguish <06869> and sorrows <02256> have taken

<0270> her, as a woman in travail <03205>.

25  How <0349> is the city <05892> of praise <08416> not left

<05800>, the city <07151> of my joy <04885>!

26  Therefore <03651> her young <0970> men shall fall <05307>

in her streets <07339>, and all <03605> the men <0582> of war

<04421> shall be cut <01826> off in that day <03117>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>.

 27  And I will kindle <03341> a fire <0784> in the wall <02346>

of Damascus <01834>, and it shall consume <0398> the palaces

<0759> of Benhadad <01130>.

 28. Concerning Kedar <06938>, and concerning the kingdoms

<04467> of Hazor <02674>, which <0834> Nebuchadrezzar <05019>

king <04428> of Babylon <0894> shall smite <05221>, thus <03541>

saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Arise <06965> ye, go <05927> up

to Kedar <06938>, and spoil <07703> the men <01121> of the east

<06924>.

29  Their tents <0168> and their flocks <06629> shall they take

<03947> away: they shall take <05375> to themselves <01992>

their curtains <03407>, and all <03605> their vessels <03627>,

and their camels <01581>; and they shall cry <07121> unto them,

Fear <04032> [is] on every <05437> side <05439>.

30  Flee <05127>, get <05110> you far <03966> off, dwell

<03427> deep <06009>, O ye inhabitants <03427> of Hazor <02674>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>; for Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king

<04428> of Babylon <0894> hath taken counsel <06098> against

<05921> you, and hath conceived <02030> a purpose <04284>

against <05921> you.

31  Arise <06965>, get <05927> you up unto the wealthy <07961>

nation <01471>, that dwelleth <03427> without care <0983>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>, which have neither <03808> gates

<01817> nor <03808> bars <01280>, [which] dwell <07931> alone

<0909>.

32  And their camels <01581> shall be a booty <0957>, and the

multitude <0527> of their cattle <04734> a spoil <07998>: and I

will scatter <02219> into all <03605> winds <07307> them [that

are] in the utmost <07112> corners <06285>; and I will bring

<0935> their calamity <0343> from all <03605> sides <05676>

thereof, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

33  And Hazor <02674> shall be a dwelling <04583> for dragons

<08577>, [and] a desolation <08077> for ever <05769>: there

shall no <03808> man <0376> abide <03427> there <08033>, nor

<03808> [any] son <01121> of man <0120> dwell <01481> in it.

 34. The word <01697> of the LORD <03068> that came <01961> to

Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030> against <0413> Elam <05867>

in the beginning <07225> of the reign <04438> of Zedekiah

<06667> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, saying <0559>,

 35  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>;

Behold <02005>, I will break <07665> the bow <07198> of Elam

<05867>, the chief <07225> of their might <01369>.

 36  And upon Elam <05867> will I bring <0935> the four <0702>

winds <07307> from the four <0702> quarters <07098> of heaven

<08064>, and will scatter <02219> them toward all <03605> those

<0428> winds <07307>; and there shall be no <03808> nation

<01471> whither the outcasts <05080> of Elam <05867> shall not

come <0935>.

37  For I will cause Elam <05867> to be dismayed <02865> before

<06440> their enemies <0341>, and before <06440> them that seek

<01245> their life <05315>: and I will bring <0935> evil <07451>

upon them, [even <0853>] my fierce <02740> anger <0639>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>; and I will send <07971> the sword

<02719> after <0310> them, till <05704> I have consumed <03615>

them:

 38  And I will set <07760> my throne <03678> in Elam <05867>,

and will destroy <06> from thence <08033> the king <04428> and

the princes <08269>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

39  But it shall come <01961> to pass in the latter <0319> days

<03117>, [that] I will bring <07725> again <07725> the captivity

<07622> of Elam <05867>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

Jeremiah  50

 1. The word <01697> that the LORD <03068> spake <01696> against

<0413> Babylon <0894> [and] against <0413> the land <0776> of

the Chaldeans <03778> by Jeremiah <03414> the prophet <05030>.

2  Declare <05046> ye among the nations <01471>, and publish

<08085>, and set <05375> up a standard <05251>; publish <08085>,

[and] conceal <03582> not: say <0559>, Babylon <0894> is taken

<03920>, Bel <01078> is confounded <03001>, Merodach <04781> is

broken <02844> in pieces; her idols <06091> are confounded

<03001>, her images <01544> are broken <02865> in pieces.

3  For out of the north <06828> there cometh <05927> up a

nation <01471> against <05921> her, which <01931> shall make

<07896> her land <0776> desolate <08047>, and none <03808> shall

dwell <03427> therein: they shall remove <05110>, they shall

depart <01980>, both man <0120> and beast <0929>.

4  In those <01992> days <03117>, and in that time <06256>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, the children <01121> of Israel

<03478> shall come <0935>, they and the children <01121> of

Judah <03063> together <03162>, going <01980> and weeping

<01058>: they shall go <03212>, and seek <01245> the LORD

<03068> their God <0430>.

5  They shall ask <07592> the way <01870> to Zion <06726> with

their faces <06440> thitherward <02008>, [saying], Come <0935>,

and let us join <03867> ourselves to the LORD <03068> in a

perpetual <05769> covenant <01285> [that] shall not be forgotten

<07911>.

 6  My people <05971> hath been <01961> lost <06> sheep <06629>:

their shepherds <07462> have caused them to go <08582> astray

<08582>, they have turned <07725> them away [on] the mountains

<02022>: they have gone <01980> from mountain <02022> to hill

<01389>, they have forgotten <07911> their restingplace <07258>.

7  All <03605> that found <04672> them have devoured <0398>

them: and their adversaries <06862> said <0559>, We offend

<0816> not, because they have sinned <02398> against the LORD

<03068>, the habitation <05116> of justice <06664>, even the

LORD <03068>, the hope <04723> of their fathers <01>.

8  Remove <05110> out of the midst <08432> of Babylon <0894>,

and go <03318> forth <03318> out of the land <0776> of the

Chaldeans <03778>, and be as the he goats <06260> before <06440>

the flocks <06629>.

 9. For, lo <02009>, I will raise <05782> and cause to come

<05927> up against <05921> Babylon <0894> an assembly <06951> of

great <01419> nations <01471> from the north <06828> country

<0776>: and they shall set themselves in array <06186> against

her; from thence <08033> she shall be taken <03920>: their

arrows <02671> [shall be] as of a mighty <01368> expert <07919>

man; none <03808> shall return <07725> in vain <07387>.

 10  And Chaldea <03778> shall be a spoil <07998>: all <03605>

that spoil <07998> her shall be satisfied <07646>, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>.

11  Because <03588> ye were glad <08056>, because <03588> ye

rejoiced <05937>, O ye destroyers <08154> of mine heritage

<05159>, because <03588> ye are grown <06335> fat <06335> as the

heifer <05697> at grass <01877>, and bellow <06670> as bulls

<047>;

 12  Your mother <0517> shall be sore <03966> confounded <0954>;

she that bare <03205> you shall be ashamed <02659>: behold

<02009>, the hindermost <0319> of the nations <01471> [shall be]

a wilderness <04057>, a dry <06723> land, and a desert <06160>.

13  Because of the wrath <07110> of the LORD <03068> it shall

not be inhabited <03427>, but it shall be wholly <03605>

desolate <08077>: every <03605> one that goeth <05674> by

Babylon <0894> shall be astonished <08074>, and hiss <08319> at

<05921> all <03605> her plagues <04347>.

14  Put yourselves in array <06186> against <05921> Babylon

<0894> round <05439> about: all <03605> ye that bend <01869> the

bow <07198>, shoot <03034> at <0413> her, spare <02550> no

<0408> arrows <02671>: for she hath sinned <02398> against the

LORD <03068>.

15  Shout <07321> against <05921> her round <05439> about: she

hath given <05414> her hand <03027>: her foundations <0803> are

fallen <05307>, her walls <02346> are thrown <02040> down

<02040>: for it [is] the vengeance <05360> of the LORD <03068>:

take vengeance <05358> upon her; as she hath done <06213>, do

<06213> unto her.

16  Cut <03772> off the sower <02232> from Babylon <0894>, and

him that handleth <08610> the sickle <04038> in the time <06256>

of harvest <07105>: for fear <06440> of the oppressing <03238>

sword <02719> they shall turn <06437> every <0376> one <0376> to

his people <05971>, and they shall flee <05127> every <0376> one

<0376> to his own land <0776>.

 17  Israel <03478> [is] a scattered <06340> sheep <07716>; the

lions <0738> have driven <05080> [him] away: first <07223> the

king <04428> of Assyria <0804> hath devoured <0398> him; and

last <0314> this <02088> Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king <04428> of

Babylon <0894> hath broken <06105> his bones <06106>.

 18  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>;

Behold <02005>, I will punish <06485> the king <04428> of

Babylon <0894> and his land <0776>, as I have punished <06485>

the king <04428> of Assyria <0804>.

 19  And I will bring <07725> Israel <03478> again <07725> to

his habitation <05116>, and he shall feed <07462> on Carmel

<03760> and Bashan <01316>, and his soul <05315> shall be

satisfied <07646> upon mount <02022> Ephraim <0669> and Gilead

<01568>.

20  In those <01992> days <03117>, and in that time <06256>,

saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, the iniquity <05771> of Israel

<03478> shall be sought <01245> for, and [there shall be] none

<0369>; and the sins <02403> of Judah <03063>, and they shall

not be found <04672>: for I will pardon <05545> them whom <0834>

I reserve <07604>.

 21. Go <05927> up against <05921> the land <0776> of Merathaim

<04850>, [even] against <05921> it, and against <0413> the

inhabitants <03427> of Pekod <06489>: waste <02717> and utterly

destroy <02763> after <0310> them, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>, and do <06213> according to all <03605> that I have

commanded <06680> thee.

 22  A sound <06963> of battle <04421> [is] in the land <0776>,

and of great <01419> destruction <07667>.

23  How <0349> is the hammer <06360> of the whole <03605> earth

<0776> cut <01438> asunder and broken <07665>! how <0349> is

Babylon <0894> become <01961> a desolation <08047> among the

nations <01471>!

24  I have laid a snare <03369> for thee, and thou art also

<01571> taken <03920>, O Babylon <0894>, and thou wast not aware

<03045>: thou art found <04672>, and also <01571> caught <08610>,

because <03588> thou hast striven <01624> against the LORD

<03068>.

25  The LORD <03068> hath opened <06605> his armoury <0214>,

and hath brought <03318> forth <03318> the weapons <03627> of

his indignation <02195>: for this <01931> [is] the work <04399>

of the Lord <0136> GOD <03069> of hosts <06635> in the land

<0776> of the Chaldeans <03778>.

26  Come <0935> against her from the utmost <07093> border

<07093>, open <06605> her storehouses <03965>: cast <05549> her

up as heaps <06194>, and destroy <02763> her utterly: let

nothing <0408> of her be left <07611>.

27  Slay <02717> all <03605> her bullocks <06499>; let them go

<03381> down <03381> to the slaughter <02875>: woe <01945> unto

them! for their day <03117> is come <0935>, the time <06256> of

their visitation <06486>.

28  The voice <06963> of them that flee <05127> and escape

<06412> out of the land <0776> of Babylon <0894>, to declare

<05046> in Zion <06726> the vengeance <05360> of the LORD

<03068> our God <0430>, the vengeance <05360> of his temple

<01964>.

 29  Call <08085> together the archers <07228> against <0413>

Babylon <0894>: all <03605> ye that bend <01869> the bow <07198>,

camp <02583> against <05921> it round <05439> about; let none

<0408> thereof escape <06413>: recompense <07999> her according

to her work <06467>; according to all <03605> that she hath done

<06213>, do <06213> unto her: for she hath been proud <02102>

against <0413> the LORD <03068>, against <0413> the Holy <06944>

One of Israel <03478>.

30  Therefore <03651> shall her young <0970> men fall <05307>

in the streets <07339>, and all <03605> her men <0582> of war

<04421> shall be cut <01826> off in that day <03117>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>.

 31  Behold <02005>, I [am <01961>] against <0413> thee, [O

thou] most proud <02087>, saith <05002> the Lord <0136> GOD

<03069> of hosts <06635>: for thy day <03117> is come <0935>,

the time <06256> [that] I will visit <06485> thee.

32  And the most proud <02087> shall stumble <03782> and fall

<05307>, and none <0369> shall raise <06965> him up: and I will

kindle <03341> a fire <0784> in his cities <05892>, and it shall

devour <0398> all <03605> round <05439> about him.

 33. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>;

The children <01121> of Israel <03478> and the children <01121>

of Judah <03063> [were] oppressed <06231> together <03162>: and

all <03605> that took them captives <07617> held <02388> them

fast; they refused <03985> to let them go <07971>.

34  Their Redeemer <01350> [is] strong <02389>; the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635> [is] his name <08034>: he shall

throughly plead <07378> their cause <07379>, that he may give

rest <07280> to the land <0776>, and disquiet <07264> the

inhabitants <03427> of Babylon <0894>.

35  A sword <02719> [is] upon the Chaldeans <03778>, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>, and upon the inhabitants <03427> of

Babylon <0894>, and upon her princes <08269>, and upon her wise

<02450> [men].

36  A sword <02719> [is] upon the liars <0907>; and they shall

dote <02973>: a sword <02719> [is] upon her mighty <01368> men;

and they shall be dismayed <02865>.

37  A sword <02719> [is] upon their horses <05483>, and upon

their chariots <07393>, and upon all <03605> the mingled <06154>

people that [are] in the midst <08432> of her; and they shall

become <01961> as women <0802>: a sword <02719> [is] upon her

treasures <0214>; and they shall be robbed <0962>.

38  A drought <02721> [is] upon her waters <04325>; and they

shall be dried <03001> up: for it [is] the land <0776> of graven

<06456> images, and they are mad <01984> upon [their] idols

<0367>.

39  Therefore <03651> the wild <06728> beasts <06728> of the

desert <06728> with the wild <0338> beasts <0338> of the islands

<0339> shall dwell <03427> [there], and the owls shall dwell

<03427> therein: and it shall be no <03808> more <05750>

inhabited <03427> for ever <05331>; neither <03808> shall it be

dwelt <07931> in from generation <01755> to generation <01755>.

40  As God <0430> overthrew <04114> Sodom <05467> and Gomorrah

<06017> and the neighbour <07934> [cities] thereof, saith

<05002> the LORD <03068>; [so] shall no <03808> man <0376> abide

<03427> there <08033>, neither <03808> shall any son <01121> of

man <0120> dwell <01481> therein.

 41  Behold <02009>, a people <05971> shall come <0935> from the

north <06828>, and a great <01419> nation <01471>, and many

<07227> kings <04428> shall be raised <05782> up from the coasts

<03411> of the earth <0776>.

42  They shall hold <02388> the bow <07198> and the lance

<03591>: they [are] cruel <0394>, and will not shew mercy

<07355>: their voice <06963> shall roar <01993> like the sea

<03220>, and they shall ride <07392> upon horses <05483>, [every

one] put in array <06186>, like a man <0376> to the battle

<04421>, against <05921> thee, O daughter <01323> of Babylon

<0894>.

43  The king <04428> of Babylon <0894> hath heard <08085> the

report <08088> of them, and his hands <03027> waxed feeble

<07503>: anguish <06869> took hold <02388> of him, [and] pangs

<02427> as of a woman in travail <03205>.

 44  Behold <02009>, he shall come <05927> up like a lion <0738>

from the swelling <01347> of Jordan <03383> unto the habitation

<05116> of the strong <0386>: but I will make them suddenly

<07280> run <07323> away from her: and who <04310> [is] a chosen

<0970> [man, that] I may appoint <06485> over <0413> her? for

who <04310> [is] like <03644> me? and who <04310> will appoint

<03259> me the time? and who <04310> [is] that shepherd <07462>

that will stand <05975> before <06440> me?

45  Therefore <03651> hear <08085> ye the counsel <06098> of

the LORD <03068>, that he hath taken <03289> against <0413>

Babylon <0894>; and his purposes <04284>, that he hath purposed

<02803> against <0413> the land <0776> of the Chaldeans <03778>:

Surely the least <06810> of the flock <06629> shall draw <05498>

them out: surely he shall make [their] habitation <05116>

desolate <08074> with them.

46  At the noise <06963> of the taking <08610> of Babylon

<0894> the earth <0776> is moved <07493>, and the cry <02201> is

heard <08085> among the nations <01471>.

Jeremiah  51

 1. Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; Behold <02005>,

I will raise <05782> up against <05921> Babylon <0894>, and

against <0413> them that dwell <03427> in the midst <03820> of

them that rise <06965> up against me, a destroying <07843> wind

<07307>;

2  And will send <07971> unto Babylon <0894> fanners <02114>,

that shall fan <02219> her, and shall empty <01238> her land

<0776>: for in the day <03117> of trouble <07451> they shall be

against <05921> her round <05439> about.

3  Against <0413> [him that] bendeth <01869> let the archer

<01869> bend <01869> his bow <07198>, and against <0413> [him

that] lifteth <05927> himself up in his brigandine <05630>: and

spare <02550> ye not her young <0970> men; destroy <02763> ye

utterly all <03605> her host <06635>.

4  Thus the slain <02491> shall fall <05307> in the land <0776>

of the Chaldeans <03778>, and [they that are] thrust <01856>

through <01856> in her streets <02351>.

5  For Israel <03478> [hath] not [been] forsaken <0488>, nor

Judah <03063> of his God <0430>, of the LORD <03068> of hosts

<06635>; though <03588> their land <0776> was filled <04390>

with sin <0817> against the Holy <06918> One of Israel <03478>.

6  Flee <05127> out of the midst <08432> of Babylon <0894>, and

deliver <04422> every man <0376> his soul <05315>: be not cut

<01826> off in her iniquity <05771>; for this <01931> [is] the

time <06256> of the LORD'S <03068> vengeance <05360>; he will

render <07999> unto her a recompence <01576>.

 7  Babylon <0894> [hath been] a golden <02091> cup <03563> in

the LORD'S <03068> hand <03027>, that made all <03605> the earth

<0776> drunken <07937>: the nations <01471> have drunken <08354>

of her wine <03196>; therefore the nations <01471> are mad

<01984>.

 8  Babylon <0894> is suddenly <06597> fallen <05307> and

destroyed <07665>: howl <03213> for her; take <03947> balm

<06875> for her pain <04341>, if <0194> so be she may be healed

<07495>.

9  We would have healed <07495> Babylon <0894>, but she is not

healed <07495>: forsake <05800> her, and let us go <03212> every

<0376> one <0376> into his own country <0776>: for her judgment

<04941> reacheth <05060> unto heaven <08064>, and is lifted

<05375> up [even] to the skies <07834>.

10  The LORD <03068> hath brought <03318> forth <03318> our

righteousness <06666>: come <0935>, and let us declare <05608>

in Zion <06726> the work <04639> of the LORD <03068> our God

<0430>.

11  Make bright <01305> the arrows <01121>; gather <04390> the

shields <07982>: the LORD <03068> hath raised <05782> up the

spirit <07307> of the kings <04428> of the Medes <04074>: for

his device <04209> [is] against <05921> Babylon <0894>, to

destroy <07843> it; because <03588> it [is] the vengeance

<05360> of the LORD <03068>, the vengeance <05360> of his temple

<01964>.

12  Set <05375> up the standard <05251> upon the walls <02346>

of Babylon <0894>, make the watch <04929> strong <02388>, set

<06965> up the watchmen <08104>, prepare <03559> the ambushes

<0693>: for the LORD <03068> hath both <01571> devised <02161>

and done <06213> that which <0834> he spake <01696> against

<0413> the inhabitants <03427> of Babylon <0894>.

13  O thou that dwellest <07931> upon many <07227> waters

<04325>, abundant <07227> in treasures <0214>, thine end <07093>

is come <0935>, [and] the measure <0520> of thy covetousness

<01215>.

14  The LORD <03068> of hosts <06635> hath sworn <07650> by

himself <05315>, [saying], Surely I will fill <04390> thee with

men <0120>, as with caterpillers <03218>; and they shall lift

<06030> up a shout <01959> against <05921> thee.

15  He hath made <06213> the earth <0776> by his power <03581>,

he hath established <03559> the world <08398> by his wisdom

<02451>, and hath stretched <05186> out the heaven <08064> by

his understanding <08394>.

16  When he uttereth <05414> [his] voice <06963>, [there is] a

multitude <0527> of waters <04325> in the heavens <08064>; and

he causeth the vapours <05387> to ascend <05927> from the ends

<07097> of the earth <0776>: he maketh <06213> lightnings

<01300> with rain <04306>, and bringeth <03318> forth <03318>

the wind <07307> out of his treasures <0214>.

17  Every <03605> man <0120> is brutish <01197> by [his]

knowledge <01847>; every <03605> founder <06884> is confounded

<03001> by the graven <06459> image <06459>: for his molten

<05262> image [is] falsehood <08267>, and [there is] no <03808>

breath <07307> in them.

18  They [are] vanity <01892>, the work <04639> of errors

<08595>: in the time <06256> of their visitation <06486> they

shall perish <06>.

 19  The portion <02506> of Jacob <03290> [is] not like them;

for he [is] the former <03335> of all <03605> things: and

[Israel <03478> is] the rod <07626> of his inheritance <05159>:

the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635> [is] his name <08034>.

20  Thou [art] my battle <04661> axe <04601> [and] weapons

<03627> of war <04421>: for with thee will I break <05310> in

pieces the nations <01471>, and with thee will I destroy <07843>

kingdoms <04467>;

21  And with thee will I break <05310> in pieces the horse

<05483> and his rider <07392>; and with thee will I break

<05310> in pieces the chariot <07393> and his rider <07392>;

22  With thee also will I break <05310> in pieces man <0376>

and woman <0802>; and with thee will I break <05310> in pieces

old <02205> and young <05288>; and with thee will I break

<05310> in pieces the young <0970> man and the maid <01330>;

23  I will also break <05310> in pieces with thee the shepherd

<07462> and his flock <05739>; and with thee will I break

<05310> in pieces the husbandman <0406> and his yoke <06776> of

oxen; and with thee will I break <05310> in pieces captains

<06346> and rulers <05461>.

24  And I will render <07999> unto Babylon <0894> and to all

<03605> the inhabitants <03427> of Chaldea <03778> all <03605>

their evil <07451> that they have done <06213> in Zion <06726>

in your sight <05869>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

 25  Behold <02005>, I [am] against <0413> thee, O destroying

<04889> mountain <02022>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, which

destroyest <07843> all <03605> the earth <0776>: and I will

stretch <05186> out mine hand <03027> upon thee, and roll

<01556> thee down from the rocks <05553>, and will make <05414>

thee a burnt <08316> mountain <02022>.

26  And they shall not take <03947> of thee a stone <068> for a

corner <06438>, nor a stone <068> for foundations <04146>; but

thou shalt be desolate <08077> for ever <05769>, saith <05002>

the LORD <03068>.

 27  Set <05375> ye up a standard <05251> in the land <0776>,

blow <08628> the trumpet <07782> among the nations <01471>,

prepare <06942> the nations <01471> against <05921> her, call

<08085> together against <05921> her the kingdoms <04467> of

Ararat <0780>, Minni <04508>, and Ashchenaz <0813>; appoint

<06485> a captain <02951> against <05921> her; cause the horses

<05483> to come <05927> up as the rough <05569> caterpillers

<03218>.

 28  Prepare <06942> against <05921> her the nations <01471>

with the kings <04428> of the Medes <04074>, the captains

<06346> thereof, and all <03605> the rulers <05461> thereof, and

all <03605> the land <0776> of his dominion <04475>.

29  And the land <0776> shall tremble <07493> and sorrow

<02342>: for every purpose <04284> of the LORD <03068> shall be

performed <06965> against <05921> Babylon <0894>, to make

<07760> the land <0776> of Babylon <0894> a desolation <08047>

without <0369> an inhabitant <03427>.

30  The mighty <01368> men of Babylon <0894> have forborn

<02308> to fight <03898>, they have remained <03427> in [their]

holds <04679>: their might <01369> hath failed <05405>; they

became <01961> as women <0802>: they have burned <03341> her

dwellingplaces <04908>; her bars <01280> are broken <07665>.

31  One post <07323> shall run <07323> to meet <07125> another,

and one messenger <05046> to meet <07125> another, to shew

<05046> the king <04428> of Babylon <0894> that his city <05892>

is taken <03920> at [one] end <07097>,

32  And that the passages <04569> are stopped <08610>, and the

reeds <098> they have burned <08313> with fire <0784>, and the

men <0582> of war <04421> are affrighted <0926>.

33  For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts

<06635>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>; The daughter <01323>

of Babylon <0894> [is] like a threshingfloor <01637>, [it is]

time <06256> to thresh <01869> her: yet <05750> a little <04592>

while, and the time <06256> of her harvest <07105> shall come

<0935>.

 34  Nebuchadrezzar <05019> the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>

hath devoured <0398> me, he hath crushed <02000> me, he hath

made <03322> me an empty <07385> vessel <03627>, he hath

swallowed <01104> me up like a dragon <08577>, he hath filled

<04390> his belly <03770> with my delicates <05730>, he hath

cast <01740> me out.

35  The violence <02555> done <06213> to me and to my flesh

<07607> [be] upon Babylon <0894>, shall the inhabitant <03427>

of Zion <06726> say <0559>; and my blood <01818> upon the

inhabitants <03427> of Chaldea <03778>, shall Jerusalem <03389>

say <0559>.

 36  Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>; Behold <02005>, I will plead <07378> thy cause <07379>,

and take vengeance <05360> for thee; and I will dry <06717> up

her sea <03220>, and make her springs <04726> dry <03001>.

 37  And Babylon <0894> shall become <01961> heaps <01530>, a

dwellingplace <03427> for dragons <08577>, an astonishment

<08047>, and an hissing <08322>, without <0369> an inhabitant

<03427>.

38  They shall roar <07580> together <03162> like lions <03715>:

they shall yell <05286> as lions <0738>' whelps <01484>.

39  In their heat <02527> I will make <07896> their feasts

<04960>, and I will make them drunken <07937>, that they may

rejoice <05937>, and sleep <03462> a perpetual <05769> sleep

<08142>, and not wake <06974>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

 40  I will bring <03381> them down <03381> like lambs <03733>

to the slaughter <02873>, like rams <0352> with he goats <06260>.

41  How <0349> is Sheshach <08347> taken <03920>! and how is

the praise <08416> of the whole <03605> earth <0776> surprised

<08610>! how <0349> is Babylon <0894> become <01961> an

astonishment <08047> among the nations <01471>!

42  The sea <03220> is come <05927> up upon Babylon <0894>: she

is covered <03680> with the multitude <0527> of the waves

<01530> thereof.

 43  Her cities <05892> are a desolation <08047>, a dry <06723>

land <0776>, and a wilderness <06160>, a land <0776> wherein

<0834> no <03808> man <0376> dwelleth <03427>, neither <03808>

doth [any] son <01121> of man <0120> pass <05674> thereby

<02004>.

 44  And I will punish <06485> Bel <01078> in Babylon <0894>,

and I will bring <03318> forth <03318> out of his mouth <06310>

that which he hath swallowed <01104> up: and the nations <01471>

shall not flow <05102> together any more <05750> unto him: yea

<01571>, the wall <02346> of Babylon <0894> shall fall <05307>.

45  My people <05971>, go <03318> ye out of the midst <08432>

of her, and deliver <04422> ye every man <0376> his soul <05315>

from the fierce <02740> anger <0639> of the LORD <03068>.

46  And lest <06435> your heart <03824> faint <07401>, and ye

fear <03372> for the rumour <08052> that shall be heard <08085>

in the land <0776>; a rumour <08052> shall both come <0935>

[one] year <08141>, and after <0310> that in [another] year

<08141> [shall come] a rumour <08052>, and violence <02555> in

the land <0776>, ruler <04910> against <05921> ruler <04910>.

 47  Therefore <03651>, behold <02009>, the days <03117> come

<0935>, that I will do judgment <06485> upon the graven <06456>

images of Babylon <0894>: and her whole <03605> land <0776>

shall be confounded <0954>, and all <03605> her slain <02491>

shall fall <05307> in the midst <08432> of her.

48  Then the heaven <08064> and the earth <0776>, and all

<03605> that [is] therein, shall sing <07442> for Babylon <0894>:

for the spoilers <07703> shall come <0935> unto her from the

north <06828>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

49  As Babylon <0894> [hath caused] the slain <02491> of Israel

<03478> to fall <05307>, so at Babylon <0894> shall fall <05307>

the slain <02491> of all <03605> the earth <0776>.

50  Ye that have escaped <06412> the sword <02719>, go <01980>

away, stand <05975> not still <05975>: remember <02142> the LORD

<03068> afar <07350> off, and let Jerusalem <03389> come <05927>

into <05921> your mind <03824>.

51  We are confounded <0954>, because <03588> we have heard

<08085> reproach <02781>: shame <03639> hath covered <03680> our

faces <06440>: for strangers <02114> are come <0935> into

<05921> the sanctuaries <04720> of the LORD'S <03068> house

<01004>.

 52  Wherefore <03651>, behold <02009>, the days <03117> come

<0935>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>, that I will do judgment

<06485> upon her graven <06456> images: and through all <03605>

her land <0776> the wounded <02491> shall groan <0602>.

53  Though <03588> Babylon <0894> should mount <05927> up to

heaven <08064>, and though <03588> she should fortify <01219>

the height <04791> of her strength <05797>, [yet] from me shall

spoilers <07703> come <0935> unto her, saith <05002> the LORD

<03068>.

 54  A sound <06963> of a cry <02201> [cometh <0935>] from

Babylon <0894>, and great <01419> destruction <07667> from the

land <0776> of the Chaldeans <03778>:

 55  Because <03588> the LORD <03068> hath spoiled <07703>

Babylon <0894>, and destroyed <06> out of her the great <01419>

voice <06963>; when her waves <01530> do roar <01993> like great

<07227> waters <04325>, a noise <07588> of their voice <06963>

is uttered <05414>:

56  Because <03588> the spoiler <07703> is come <0935> upon her,

[even] upon Babylon <0894>, and her mighty <01368> men are

taken <03920>, every one of their bows <07198> is broken <02865>:

for the LORD <03068> God <0410> of recompences <01578> shall

surely requite <07999>.

57  And I will make drunk <07937> her princes <08269>, and her

wise <02450> [men], her captains <06346>, and her rulers <05461>,

and her mighty <01368> men: and they shall sleep <03462> a

perpetual <05769> sleep <08142>, and not wake <06974>, saith

<05002> the King <04428>, whose name <08034> [is] the LORD

<03068> of hosts <06635>.

 58  Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> of hosts <06635>;

The broad <07342> walls <02346> of Babylon <0894> shall be

utterly broken <06209>, and her high <01364> gates <08179> shall

be burned <03341> with fire <0784>; and the people <05971> shall

labour <03021> in vain <07385>, and the folk <03816> in the fire

<0784>, and they shall be weary <03286>.

 59. The word <01697> which <0834> Jeremiah <03414> the prophet

<05030> commanded <06680> Seraiah <08304> the son <01121> of

Neriah <05374>, the son <01121> of Maaseiah <04271>, when he

went <03212> with Zedekiah <06667> the king <04428> of Judah

<03063> into Babylon <0894> in the fourth <07243> year <08141>

of his reign <04427>. And [this] Seraiah <08304> [was] a quiet

<04496> prince <08269>.

 60  So Jeremiah <03414> wrote <03789> in a book <05612> all

<03605> the evil <07451> that should come <0935> upon Babylon

<0894>, [even <0853>] all <03605> these <0428> words <01697>

that are written <03789> against <0413> Babylon <0894>.

61  And Jeremiah <03414> said <0559> to Seraiah <08304>, When

thou comest <0935> to Babylon <0894>, and shalt see <07200>, and

shalt read <07121> all <03605> these <0428> words <01697>;

62  Then shalt thou say <0559>, O LORD <03068>, thou hast

spoken <01696> against <0413> this <02088> place <04725>, to cut

<03772> it off, that none <01115> shall remain <03427> in it,

neither <01115> man <0120> nor beast <0929>, but that it shall

be desolate <08077> for ever <05769>.

63  And it shall be, when thou hast made an end <03615> of

reading <07121> this <02088> book <05612>, [that] thou shalt

bind <07164> a stone <068> to it, and cast <07993> it into

<0413> the midst <08432> of Euphrates <06578>:

64  And thou shalt say <0559>, Thus <03602> shall Babylon

<0894> sink <08257>, and shall not rise <06965> from the evil

<07451> that I will bring <0935> upon her: and they shall be

weary <03286>. Thus <02008> far <02008> [are] the words <01697>

of Jeremiah <03414>.

Jeremiah  52

 1. Zedekiah <06667> [was] one <0259> and twenty <06242> years

<08141> old <01121> when he began to reign <04427>, and he

reigned <04427> eleven years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>. And

his mother's <0517> name <08034> [was] Hamutal <02537> the

daughter <01323> of Jeremiah <03414> of Libnah <03841>.

2  And he did <06213> [that which was] evil <07451> in the eyes

<05869> of the LORD <03068>, according to all <03605> that

Jehoiakim <03079> had done <06213>.

3  For through <05921> the anger <0639> of the LORD <03068> it

came <01961> to pass in Jerusalem <03389> and Judah <03063>,

till <05704> he had cast <07993> them out from his presence

<06440>, that Zedekiah <06667> rebelled <04775> against the king

<04428> of Babylon <0894>.

4  And it came <01961> to pass in the ninth <08671> year

<08141> of his reign <04427>, in the tenth <06224> month <02320>,

in the tenth <06218> [day] of the month <02320>, [that]

Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king <04428> of Babylon <0894> came

<0935>, he and all <03605> his army <02428>, against <05921>

Jerusalem <03389>, and pitched <02583> against <05921> it, and

built <01129> forts <01785> against <05921> it round <05439>

about.

5  So the city <05892> was besieged unto the eleventh year

<08141> of king <04428> Zedekiah <06667>.

6  And in the fourth <07243> month <02320>, in the ninth

<08672> [day] of the month <02320>, the famine <07458> was sore

<02388> in the city <05892>, so that there was no <03808> bread

<03899> for the people <05971> of the land <0776>.

7  Then the city <05892> was broken <01234> up, and all <03605>

the men <0582> of war <04421> fled <01272>, and went <03318>

forth <03318> out of the city <05892> by night <03915> by the

way <01870> of the gate <08179> between <0996> the two <08147>

walls <02346>, which <0834> [was] by the king's <04428> garden

<01588>; (now the Chaldeans <03778> [were] by the city <05892>

round <05439> about:) and they went <03212> by the way <01870>

of the plain <06160>.

8  But the army <02428> of the Chaldeans <03779> pursued

<07291> after <0310> the king <04428>, and overtook <05381>

Zedekiah <06667> in the plains <06160> of Jericho <03405>; and

all <03605> his army <02428> was scattered <06327> from him.

9  Then they took <08610> the king <04428>, and carried <05927>

him up unto the king <04428> of Babylon <0894> to Riblah <07247>

in the land <0776> of Hamath <02574>; where he gave <01696>

judgment <04941> upon him.

10  And the king <04428> of Babylon <0894> slew <07819> the

sons <01121> of Zedekiah <06667> before his eyes <05869>: he

slew <07819> also <01571> all <03605> the princes <08269> of

Judah <03063> in Riblah <07247>.

11  Then he put <05786> out the eyes <05869> of Zedekiah

<06667>; and the king <04428> of Babylon <0894> bound <0631> him

in chains <05178>, and carried <0935> him to Babylon <0894>, and

put <05411> him in prison till <05704> the day <03117> of his

death <04194>.

 12. Now in the fifth <02549> month <02320>, in the tenth

<06218> [day] of the month <02320>, which <01958> [was] the

nineteenth year <08141> of Nebuchadrezzar <05019> king <04428>

of Babylon <0894>, came <0935> Nebuzaradan <05018>, captain

<07227> of the guard <02876>, [which] served <05975> the king

<04428> of Babylon <0894>, into Jerusalem <03389>,

13  And burned <08313> the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>,

and the king's <04428> house <01004>; and all <03605> the houses

<01004> of Jerusalem <03389>, and all <03605> the houses <01004>

of the great <01419> [men], burned <08313> he with fire <0784>:

14  And all <03605> the army <02428> of the Chaldeans <03779>,

that [were] with the captain <07227> of the guard <02876>, brake

<05422> down <05422> all <03605> the walls <02346> of Jerusalem

<03389> round <05439> about.

15  Then Nebuzaradan <05018> the captain <07227> of the guard

<02876> carried <01540> away captive <01540> [certain] of the

poor <01803> of the people <05971>, and the residue <03499> of

the people <05971> that remained <07604> in the city <05892>,

and those that fell <05307> away, that fell <05307> to the king

<04428> of Babylon <0894>, and the rest <03499> of the multitude

<0527>.

16  But Nebuzaradan <05018> the captain <07227> of the guard

<02876> left <07604> [certain] of the poor <01803> of the land

<0776> for vinedressers <03755> and for husbandmen <03009>.

17  Also the pillars <05982> of brass <05178> that [were] in

the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and the bases <04350>,

and the brasen <05178> sea <03220> that [was] in the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>, the Chaldeans <03779> brake <07665>,

and carried <05375> all <03605> the brass <05178> of them to

Babylon <0894>.

18  The caldrons <05518> also, and the shovels <03257>, and the

snuffers <04212>, and the bowls <04219>, and the spoons <03709>,

and all <03605> the vessels <03627> of brass <05178> wherewith

<0834> they ministered <08334>, took <03947> they away.

19  And the basons <05592>, and the firepans <04289>, and the

bowls <04219>, and the caldrons <05518>, and the candlesticks

<04501>, and the spoons <03709>, and the cups <04518>; [that]

which <0834> [was] of gold <02091> [in] gold <02091>, and [that]

which <0834> [was] of silver <03701> [in] silver <03701>, took

<03947> the captain <07227> of the guard <02876> away.

 20  The two <08147> pillars <05982>, one <0259> sea <03220>,

and twelve brasen <05178> bulls <01241> that [were] under

<08478> the bases <04350>, which <0834> king <04428> Solomon

<08010> had made <06213> in the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>: the brass <05178> of all <03605> these <0428> vessels

<03627> was without <03808> weight <04948>.

21  And [concerning] the pillars <05982>, the height <06967> of

one <0259> pillar <05982> [was] eighteen cubits <0520>; and a

fillet <02339> of twelve cubits <0520> did compass <05437> it;

and the thickness <05672> thereof [was] four <0702> fingers

<0676>: [it was] hollow <05014>.

22  And a chapiter <03805> of brass <05178> [was] upon it; and

the height <06967> of one <0259> chapiter <03805> [was] five

<02568> cubits <0520>, with network <07639> and pomegranates

<07416> upon the chapiters <03805> round <05439> about, all

<03605> [of] brass <05178>. The second <08145> pillar <05982>

also and the pomegranates <07416> [were] like unto these <0428>.

23  And there were ninety <08673> and six <08337> pomegranates

<07416> on a side <07307>; [and] all <03605> the pomegranates

<07416> upon the network <07639> [were] an hundred <03967> round

<05439> about.

 24. And the captain <07227> of the guard <02876> took <03947>

Seraiah <08304> the chief <07218> priest <03548>, and Zephaniah

<06846> the second <04932> priest <03548>, and the three <07969>

keepers <08104> of the door <05592>:

25  He took <03947> also out of the city <05892> an eunuch

<05631>, which <0834> had <01961> the charge <06496> of the men

<0582> of war <04421>; and seven <07651> men <0582> of them that

were near <07200> the king's <04428> person <06440>, which

<0834> were found <04672> in the city <05892>; and the principal

<08269> scribe <05608> of the host <06635>, who mustered <06633>

the people <05971> of the land <0776>; and threescore <07657>

men <0376> of the people <05971> of the land <0776>, that were

found <04672> in the midst <08432> of the city <05892>.

26  So Nebuzaradan <05018> the captain <07227> of the guard

<02876> took <03947> them, and brought <03212> them to the king

<04428> of Babylon <0894> to Riblah <07247>.

27  And the king <04428> of Babylon <0894> smote <05221> them,

and put them to death <04191> in Riblah <07247> in the land

<0127> of Hamath <02574>. Thus Judah <03063> was carried <01540>

away captive <01540> out of his own land <0127>.

 28  This <02088> [is] the people <05971> whom <0834>

Nebuchadrezzar <05019> carried <01540> away captive <01540>: in

the seventh <07651> year <08141> three <07969> thousand <0505>

Jews <03064> and three <07969> and twenty <06242>:

29  In the eighteenth year <08141> of Nebuchadrezzar <05019> he

carried away captive <01540> from Jerusalem <03389> eight

<08083> hundred <03967> thirty <07970> and two <08147> persons

<05315>:

30  In the three <07969> and twentieth <06242> year <08141> of

Nebuchadrezzar <05019> Nebuzaradan <05018> the captain <07227>

of the guard <02876> carried <01540> away captive <01540> of the

Jews <03064> seven <07651> hundred <03967> forty <0705> and five

<02568> persons <05315>: all <03605> the persons <05315> [were]

four <0702> thousand <0505> and six <08337> hundred <03967>.

 31. And it came <01961> to pass in the seven <07651> and

thirtieth <07970> year <08141> of the captivity <01546> of

Jehoiachin <03078> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, in the twelfth

month <02320>, in the five <02568> and twentieth <06242> [day]

of the month <02320>, [that] Evilmerodach <0192> king <04428> of

Babylon <0894> in the [first] year <08141> of his reign <04438>

lifted <05375> up the head <07218> of Jehoiachin <03078> king

<04428> of Judah <03063>, and brought <03218> him forth <03318>

out of prison <03608>,

32  And spake <01696> kindly <02896> unto him, and set <05414>

his throne <03678> above <04605> the throne <03678> of the kings

<04428> that [were] with him in Babylon <0894>,

33  And changed <08138> his prison <03608> garments <0899>: and

he did continually <08548> eat <0398> bread <03899> before

<06440> him all <03605> the days <03117> of his life <02416>.

34  And [for] his diet <0737>, there was a continual <08548>

diet <0737> given <05414> him of the king <04428> of Babylon

<0894>, every day <03117> a portion <01697> until <05704> the

day <03117> of his death <04194>, all <03605> the days <03117>

of his life <02416>.
