3John   1

 1. The elder <4245> unto the wellbeloved <0027> Gaius <1050>, whom <3739> I love <0025> in the truth <0225>.

 2  Beloved <0027>, I wish <2172> above <4012> all <3956> things that thou mayest prosper <2137> and be in health <5198>, even <2531> as thy soul <5590> prospereth <2137>.

 3. For I rejoiced <5463> greatly <3029>, when the brethren <0080> came <2064> and testified <3140> of the truth <0225> that is in thee, even <2531> as thou walkest <4043> in the truth <0225>.

 4  I have <2192> no <3756> greater <3186> joy <5479> than to hear <0191> that my children <5043> walk <4043> in truth <0225>.

 5  Beloved <0027>, thou doest <4160> faithfully <4103> whatsoever <1437> thou doest <4160> to the brethren <0080>, and to strangers <3581>;

 6  Which <3739> have borne witness <3140> of thy charity <0026> before <1799> the church <1577>: whom <3739> if thou bring <4311> forward <4311> on their journey after <0516> a godly <2316> sort <0516>, thou shalt do <4160> well <2573>:

 7  Because <1063> that for his name's <3686> sake they went <1831> forth <1831>, taking <2983> nothing <3367> of the Gentiles <1484>.

 8  We therefore <3767> ought <3784> to receive <0618> such <5108>, that we might be fellowhelpers <4904> to the truth <0225>.

 9. I wrote <1125> unto the church <1577>: but Diotrephes <1361>, who <3588> loveth <5383> to have the preeminence <5383> among <1722> them, receiveth <1926> us not.

 10  Wherefore <3739>, if <1437> I come <2064>, I will remember <5279> his deeds <2041> which <3739> he doeth <4160>, prating <5396> against <5396> us with malicious <4190> words <3056>: and not content <0714> therewith <5125>, neither <3777> doth he himself <0846> receive <1926> the brethren <0080>, and forbiddeth <2967> them that would <1014>, and casteth <1544> [them] out of the church <1577>.

 11  Beloved <0027>, follow <3401> not that which is evil <2556>, but that which is good <0018>. He that doeth <0015> good <0015> is of God <2316>: but he that doeth <2554> evil <2554> hath not seen <3780> God <2316>.

 12. Demetrius <1216> hath good report <3140> of all <3956> [men], and of the truth <0225> itself <0846>: yea <1161>, and we [also <2532>] bear record <3140>; and ye know <1492> that our record <3141> is true <0227>.

 13  I had <2192> many <4183> things to write <1125>, but I will <2309> not with ink <3188> and pen <2563> write <1125> unto thee:

 14  But I trust <1679> I shall shortly <2112> see <1492> thee, and we shall speak <2980> face <4750> to face <4750>. Peace <1515> [be] to thee. [Our] friends <5384> salute <0782> thee. Greet <0782> the friends <5384> by name <3686>.
